My Stampin’ Up Stamp Storage – A glimps into my world, part II

dsc02662.JPG

Ah, a view of my wall of shame, lol.  I’m a stamp junkie, I confess!   I have around 250 Stampin’ Up sets at this time.  I have sold over 100 sets just last month.  Sets that were wonderful, but were definitely not my style.  That’s right I have a style now.  How liberating it is to be able to say that.

I store my stamps on their sides in Alphabetical order on shelves I put up on one wall of my craft-room.  The bottom shelf has wire baskets hanging from them that store my ribbon.

Anyway, storing my stamps on their sides gives me much easier access to them.  I’ve heard that if you store your stamps this way the rubber may slide off of the mount, but I have not had this happen to me.  The shelves are away from any heat source.  There is a window in the room but it is North facing and the sun does not shine directly on them.  I have stored my stamps on their sides for over five years now.

When I get a new set I catalog it in my binder by copying the sticker sheet and place it in a sheet protector in the binder.

They are put in the binder alphbetically too.  I didn’t want to put them in categories.  I thought that would hurt my creativity to use stamps in unexpected ways.  The binder is very easy to flip through.

One more thing, I keep an Excel spreadsheet with the stamp set names in Alphabetical order.  I started this when friends would want to come over to stamp and wanted to prepare for a project ahead of time.  I would just e-mail them my stamp list and they could pick a set out to work with.  This list also keeps me in tune to exactly how many sets I have.

I’ve started collecting a large selection of unmounted stamps too, but that is another’s days topic, lol.

I hope your day is filled with abundance!

Until tomorrow, Michelle

Wow Michelle, you are really organized!

You do have a very unique style and I love it. I love the coloring, the stamps and the natural look you give to your cards. I think what I like most about your work is the technique. You take card making to a new level. I hope I can one day develop my own style. For right now I am still discovering. Thank for sharing.

Mumbles quietly under her breath, “I am not envious, I am not envious, I wonder if she’ll miss the odd one……….”

I’ve begun my own file now after you showed us yours in part 1. 🙂 It’s a great idea.

  5. I thought this was a library picture at first. This is amazing.

I wish I could get that organized. I have my stamps on their sides to and I have had the rubber move but it can be moved back and crystal effects is a great glue or putting them back where they belong. I am going to forward this post to a friend who teases me that I have too many stamps — she scraps but doesn’t stamp. I’m working on converting her ; )

Wow! What an awesome way to store your stamp sets. I store my b/g stamps that way, but never thought to use it to store all my stamp sets. I don’t think I could do that right now. I don’t think I have enough available shelf space, but what an idea!

I would love to see more of your craft area/room/house/mansion! ;D

  8. I am sending a link to your blog to some of my friends who think I’m crazy – I have a wall of fame (shame) too! I probably don’t have quite as many as you do though! I love the idea of putting the sheets into a book. Right now I am making copies and cutting them out and taping them to the inside of the lid of the case so that if stamps get mixed up I can tell which ones belong where. Thanks for sharing and I too would love to see more of your stamping space! Thanks. ~chris

OK! Now I do not feel so bad! I have been working on organizing and putting things away in my craft room for what seems like days & days! I have been looking at all the stamp sets and thinking I SO have a addiction problem. It is such a relief to see someone has as many stamp sets as I do! You GO Girl!!

I am so glad to see I am not the only one with hundreds of stamps, I am a little jealous of your organization. Wow if I could only be half as organiized I would be thrilled. Thanks for sharing your world with us. Please keep the tutorials coming?

  12. Michelle, I am so glad that you included this picture — my husband really understands why I say I have “few” stamps now 🙂 Also, I had to giggle when you said you “now have a style” and how good that is to be able to say. Currently, I am trying to find my own style….it is taking a while. I am going to just have to keep at it I guess!!

Thanks for your great inspiration!! I am really loving your blog!!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!

Michelle, I have been racking my brain trying to find a way to store my stamps. I had them in totes and then I would have to dig to find the one I wanted. Sometimes I have purchased the same set because I wasn’t organized and didn’t realize I already had it. Sad isn’t it??? Again, thanks for the great idea!!!

  15. ROCK ON Michelle!! I love seeing that you have so many stamps! I felt so guilty for my big collection, and I KNOW I’m not the only one. Thanks goodness! 🙂

I like that you can easily get to any of your sets. Mine are stacked on tall bookcases and piled 12 high….so it’s no fun if one tips over… 😦

Love seeing your organization and your methods of keeping things handy/useful for you!@!! 🙂

Hang in there – it’s a tough job to go through it all, but you’ll be soooo happy afterward…I’m too chicken to go through all my stuff!

  19. I wanna come over and stamp!! I don’t categorize either – I totally agree. There are a variety of stamps in each set that can be used for other times of the year. I am a stamp junkie too Michelle. The last couple of years I have not been mounting my SU! sets. I pull off the rubber (comes off easy) and put them on EZMount thin, and then put them in binders. I save my pieces of wood and use them for magnets or some other project. Thanks for sharing tips about organization. I’m also an organization junkie and enjoy organizing my stuff almost as much as using it. :o)

Very cool! I have mine stacked in a cabinet with the name of the set showing, but now I am making double piles on the shelves, because I too, have overindulged my hobby. I am in the process of building a scrap/stampin’ room and might use your idea! How do you store your acrylics and wheel stamps that you disassemble?
