Attracted by the Sun – Tutorial #559

Hello There,

Well I am so happy today, because I get to share the new Stampin’ Up! Spring Catalog with you and all it contains. This is the first day you get to order from it!  Click here to check it out!

You won’t be disappointed.

My project today features the brand new stamp “Swallowtail” item number 129216.   This stamp is big and bold and a blast to color.   I love this stamp so much I wish I could get a tatoo of it on my body somewhere.   But since I’m currently dropping weight it is probably not the best time to get a tat.  Maybe I’ll get one as a reward when I meet my weight loss goal.  Do you have a tatoo?  Are you happy you did it, any regrets?  I would love to hear from you.

Back to the Swallowtail stamp, I can see this stamp being used in a great Spring mobile or butterflies to put on my Spring Wreaths, hummmm, I feel a project coming on, lol.

****************************************

Now on with today’s tutorial. . . . .  . .

Project Supplies:

Stampin’ Up! Stamps: Swallowtail (item number 129216)

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Basic Black and Tempting Turquoise

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Cajun Craze, More Mustard and Basic Black

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponge, gold brads, piercing tools, white gel pen, Stampin’ Up Gold marker, Versamarker, clear embossing powder, heat gun, Gumball Green, Tempting Turquoise and Elegant Eggplant markers, Simply Scored and Diagonal plate, brayer

Stamped the Butterfly using Craft Basic Black ink on a 3.75″ square piece of Whisper White card stock.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the body of the butterfly and the inside of the wings using an Elegant Eggplant marker.

Added Tempting Turquoise marker over lapping the Elegant Eggplant area in order to blend the colors.

Added Gumball Green marker to the rest of the wings, blending with the Tempting Turquoise.

Repeated for the other side.

Colored over the entire butterfly with a Versamarker and then heat embossed the image.  It is now totally embossed.

Brayered More Mustard ink at an angle.

Added a 2″ circle mask punched from Post it Note to the corner of the card stock.  Brayered Cajun Craze ink on at an angle, not covering the More Mustard ink entirely.

Removed the mask and sponged Cajun Craze ink in the middle of the sun using a circular motion.

Edge the wings and card stock edges using a Stamping Up Gold Marker.

Added texture between the sun and the butterfly by using the Diagonal Simply Scored plate and scoring ever line.  Also colored the dots on the edge of the wings with a White gel pen to give it some pop.

Added a 5″ square basic black card stock panel.  Pierced holes in the edge of the sun and added gold brads in every other hole.

Added a 5.25″ square Tempting Turquoise card base.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ square.  This card has been added to my sale page – click here to check it out.

May your day be filled with beauty and wonder.

Two Seahorses – Tutorial #558

Hello There and Happy New Year!

I’m refreshed after having a week of down time.  My holidays were wonderful since I got to spend them with loved ones.  That’s the very best kind of holiday in my opinion.

During my week of serenity my Stampin’ Up! Spring Mini Catalog pre-order arrived, so I spent some time just cooking up in my mind some projects.  Now it is time to put them on paper.   Take note of the stamp set I used today, By The Tide (item number 129120).   This will be available starting tomorrow January 3, 2013 through May 31, 2013.   Awesome stamp set!

My project was done using the Direct to Paper technique.  Hang out a while and check it out.

****************************************

Now on with today’s tutorial. . . . .  . .

Project Supplies:

Stampin’ Up! Stamps: By the Tide (item number 129120)

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Calypso Coral and River Rock

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Soft Suede, Calypso Coral, River Rock and Pool Party

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponge, Pool Party Ribbon, Color Spritzer, Soft Suede, Calypso Coral and Blush Blossom Markers, Stampin’ Dimensionals

*******************************************

Start with a 3.25″ square piece of Whisper White Card Stock.  Smear Pool Party ink left to right over the top portion of the card stock using the ink pad.

Smear River Rock ink from left to right using the ink pad on the bottom portion of the card stock.

Stamped the plant using River Rock ink.  I used a light color so this plant would appear to be in the background.

Stamped two seahorses using Soft Suede ink.

Added ink to the very end of my River Rock ink pad and then smeared the ink pad across the bottom of the card stock to create another level of sand.

Using the Color Spritzer Tool and a Soft Suede marker, spritzed dots over the sand area.

Put a Calypso Coral line down the seahorses backs and then colored the whole seahorses in using a Blush Blossom marker.  This blended the Calypso Coral some.

Added a bit more Calypso Coral marker to the very back of the seahorses and to their gil on their head.

Stamped another plant using Calypso Coral ink.

Cut a 5″ square piece of River Rock card stock and stamped the writing stamp using Calypso Coral ink down the left side of the card stock.  Not sure why the color is off on this photo, sorry.

Sponged Soft Suede ink around the edges of the main image panel and River Rock panel.

Added a 5.25″ Calypso Coral Card base and a 3.5″ square Calypso Coral panel underneith the main image panel.  Also added a Pool Party ribbon.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ square.

May your day be sunshine and friends.

Coffee for Two – Tutorial #557

Hey There,

Thought I would warm things up today with this Winter coffee card.  This would be a great little card to stuff a coffee gift card in.

This card shows how to do a reverse image and emboss resist.  Hang out a while and check out the tutorial for this card below.

****************************************

Now on with today’s tutorial. . . . .  . .

Project Supplies:

Stampin’ Up! Stamps: Scentsational Season (121190)and Winter Memories (127937)

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Chocolate Chip and Cherry Cobbler

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler, Chocolate Chip, Basic Black, Always Artichoke, Old Olive and Soft Suede

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponges, Gold Brads, Cherry Cobbler Quilted Satin Ribbon, Square Lattice Embossing Folder, Labels Collection Framelits (125598), Black Marker, Cherry Cobbler Marker, Chocolate Chip Marker, Big Shot Machine, Heat Gun and Clear embossing Powder

Using the second to the largest Framelit in the Labels Collection, die cut the shape using Whisper White card stock and the Big Shot Machine.

Made a reverse image of the coffee cup by stamping the image in Cherry Cobbler ink on my Stamp-a-ma-jig clear plastic sheet and then flip the plastic sheet over onto the card stock and rubbed the image onto the card stock.  Note:  the image is not crystal clear.

Stamped the coffee cup using cherry cobbler ink onto the card stock.  I now have 2 cups.

Colored both cups in using a Cherry Cobbler marker.

Colored the coffee in the cups using a Chocolate Chip marker.

Heated the images to set the marker and then colored the sides of the coffee cups with Cherry Cobbler marker to create some shading so the cup looks rounded.

Colored over the coffee cups with a Versamarker and then heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  Be careful to stay inside of the image with the Versamarker.

Masked the top of the card stock using a post it note and sponged Soft Suede ink in the unmasked area.

Sponged Chocolate Chip at the post it note edge.

Removed the mask.

Masked the bottom of the card stock leaving a bit of the brown showing above the post it note.  Sponged Old Olive ink the white area.

Sponged Always Artichoke ink at the bottom of the Old Olive area.

Stamped the steam image above both coffee cups using Always Artichoke ink.

Stamped the stars above the brown using Always Artichoke ink.  Whipped off the embossed images using a paper towel to remove any Always Artichoke ink from them.

Sponged the edges of the card stock using Aways Artichoke ink.

Stamped the Sentiment using Basic Black ink.

Cut a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock and sponged Chocolate Chip ink around the edges.

Embossed the panel using the Square Lattice embossing folder and the Big Shot Machine.

Adhered the main image panel to the Cherry Cobbler panel and then added two gold brads.

Adhered the Cherry Cobbler panel to a 4.25″ x 5.5″ Chocolate Chip Card stock base.  (8.5″ x 4.25″ folded in half).

Added a cherry cobbler quilted satin ribbon to the folded area.

Darkened the sentiment using a black marker.

Here is the finished project measuring 4.25″ x 5.5″.

May your day be filled with love and warmth.

Marriage First Christmas Keepsake

Hey There,

I hope you are having the most wonderful of weekends.   I have a quick share for you today.

I just finished decorating our Christmas tree and decided to put together a Marriage First Christmas Keepsake ornament for my Son, Mitch and my new daughter-in-law Jamie.  They were just married in August so this is their first Christmas as man and wife.

The ornament was purchased at Walmart.   All you need is a clear ornament.  I found this one with all the bling on the top.   I took their wedding invitation and sliced it in pieces and then rolled each piece around a chop stick and put the invite pieces inside the ornament and shook it.  Most of the pieces were cut about 1/4″ wide.  I cut the pieces so you could read the lines of text.   Their invite had their initials and names in larger text so I cut those pieces wider so I didn’t cut into the text.

It turned out cute.  I hope if brings fond memories to them year after year.

This keepsake ornament idea would be great for Baby’s first Christmas using a copy of a birth announcement.

Now, Mitch and Jamie’s ornament turned out so cute, I decided to make a few for my tree.  I used designer series paper and silver glitter paper to make my strips for these.  It’s so sad that the photos don’t do them justice.  You just can’t see the sparkle.  Anyhow, you get the idea.  It’s a great way to use up some of the scraps you have been hoarding.   Don’t deny it, you know you have a little stack of scraps somewhere.

May your weekend be super fun!

Until my next post. . . . . .

Hugs,

Decked Out Sweet Pressed Snickerdoodles

Hey There,

I’m busy making some quick Christmas gifts.  You know the gifts you need for neighbors, mail person, teachers, co-workers etc.  So today’s project for me is cookies.  Yummy!

Snickerdoodle Cookies is one of those foods that when I smell it it takes me back to a time at my Cousin, Bonnie’s house when I was just a kid.  We made snickerdoodles at her house and the fun and aroma was heavenly.   I will always associate Snickerdoodles with my Cousin and that care free time in life when I was very young.

Do you have a favorite food that brings back wonderful memories when you smell it?

Now I came across a wonderful Snickerdoodle recipe by Missy Shipman.  CLICK HERE FOR HER RECIPE. The recipe works wonderfully with the Stampin’ Up! Sweet Pressed Cookie Stamps (125152).  I dressed them up for giving using the terrific Season of Sweets Designer Kit (126912) and added just a touch of stamping by adding the reindeer from the Stampin’ Up! Joyous Celebrations stamp set (128066).

The Season of Sweets Designer Kit made quick work out of pulling these gifts together.  It makes those cookies look like the most special of gifts.  Who wouldn’t want a yummy cookie decked out like this?

All of the packaging items used today can be found in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog.

I started out by making the Snickerdoodles and then used the snowflake Cookie Stamp on them while they were still warm.   After they were cool I put them in the baggies that came with the Season of Sweets Designer Kit (126912).

They they went is the envelopes that came in the kit.

Added the card stock sticky ribbon that came in the kit.

Added the leaves and berries stickers that also come in the kit to the back of the envelope.

I felt a little guilty not stamping up to this point so I whipped out the Joyous Celebrations Stamp set and stamp the deer on Very Vanilla card stock with Soft Suede ink and punched it out using an oval punch.  Dotted the deers nose using a Real Red marker.  This deer appears to be Rudolf, grin.

Added the sticky card stock labels from the kit to the front and then adhered the deer piece using Stampin’ Dimensionals.   I used two kits and now have 24 gifts to hand out.  That was a good mornings work and the left overs are all mine!

Lost Mittens – Tutorial #556

Hey There,

I have a mitten card for you today.   This one goes together a bit quicker than most of my creations so it’s a great one to mass produce.  Check out the tutorial below.

This card brought to mind my oldest son, Jesse.  When he was 13 he had a problem with losing his gloves (many, many pairs) so my husband, Russ bet Jess $100 that he would not still have his gloves at the end of the winter.   Well Jesse, being the smart boy that he was, put his gloves in a safe place and didn’t wear them all Winter so he could produce them when asked just to win the bet, lol.

Egg Productivity and Blog Candy Winner

Hey There,

I been asked a lot lately if the girls are laying.  Well, yes they are!   We have been getting about 2-3 eggs a day from them.  They are so pretty, don’t you think?  I picked up this great egg rack so we could keep track of which eggs are the oldest.  You put the egg in at the top of the rack and rolls down.  The ones at the bottom, of course are the oldest.   I say oldest with a grin because the eggs are so good that they don’t last long around here.  Especially with all the baking I’ve been doing of late.

Can you guess which eggs are from our Easter Egger Chicken, Bunny.  Come on take a guess, lol.

Three of our girls lay shades of brown and one lays a pastel green.  Any how, that’s the egg scoop right now.

I already have my 3 chicks on order for the Spring.   If you follow my blog your sure to see their arrival in pictures.

Multiple Gift Card Holder – Tutorial #555

Hello from Ohio,

I have a few people that will be getting multiple gift cards from us for Christmas.  With that being said I wanted something extra special for the gift cards to be presented in.  This is a great gift for those people that have everything or you just don’t know what to get them.

I’ve seen many gift card holders that hold one card but was having trouble finding one that would hold more than one.  So today’s project is what I came up with.  It can be adapted to hold as many or as few as you would like.  I created mine to hold 6 gift cards each.  It looks like a little book when finished.  Also, I didn’t want this project to be girlie so I kept the embellishments down to a minimum.

The tutorial for this project can be found below.  Let me know what you think.   ENJOY!

Now on with today’s tutorial. . . . .  . .

Project Supplies:

Stampin’ Up! Stamps: Snowflake Soiree (127915) and Joyous Celebrations (128069)

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Bashful Blue, Whisper White, Sahara Sand and Not Quite Navy

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Bashful Blue, Basic Black and Not Quite Navy

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! sponges, Sticky Strip, Word Window punch, Decorative Label Punch, 1 3/8″ circle punch, Simply Scored tool, silver brads, Flourish Designer Frames (127835) and post it notes

4.25″ x 11″ pieces of Bashful Blue card stock.  You will need 3 1/2 of these for each gift card holder.  Stamped the Snowflake Soiree snowflakes all over the card stock using Bashful Blue ink.

Scored the card stock every 2.75″ (3 scores per piece).

Folded the card stock in accordion fashion.  Added sticky strip to the right side of each valley when the card stock is turned face down.

Stick the pockets together.   You will have 6 pockets and there should be a 2.75″ piece at each end that will be the inside cover on the front and back.

Punch to word window punches on each pocket lining the punch up with the top and bottom of the pocket and only punching 1/2 of the punch as shown below.   Next, punch the 1/3 circle in the middle of the two word window punches as shown below.

It should looke like this.   Repeat for each pocket (six times).

Cut a 4.5″ x 6.5″ piece of Sahara Sand card stock.  Score at 3″ and 3.5″.  This is the cover for your book.

Cut a 2.75″ X 4.25″ Piece of Whisper White card stock and tare a jagged edge at the top of the sticky portion of a post it note.  Mask the snow using the post it note.  Sponge Bashful Blue ink all over the unmask area and then sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock.

Stamp the foliage stamp from the Joyous Celebrations set at the post it note edge on the right side a few times with Bashful Blue ink.  Rip a mountain shape in an additional post it note and put it at the top of the card stock.  Sponge Not Quite Navy ink in the mountain shape and along the horizon line post it note.

Remove the mountain shaped post it note and move the horizon line post it note down and to a slight slant.  Sponge Bashful Blue ink above the post it note.   Move the post it note down again, slanting the opposite direction and sponge Bashful Blue ink above the post it note.    Remove the post it note entirely and sponge Bashful Blue ink at the very bottom of the card stock.

Stamp the deer using Basic Black ink.

Cut a 2.75″ x 4.25″ piece of Not Quite Navy card stock for the back of the cover and stamped the snowflakes on it using Not Quite Navy ink.   Adhered the Not Quite Navy panel and the main image panel to the cover.

Added Sticky Strip the front and back panel of the inside book and attached it to the cover.

Cut a 1/2″ x 8.5″ strip of Sahara Sand card stock and sponged Not Quite Navy ink on the edges.  Using sticky strip, wrapped the strip around the book (NOT REAL TIGHT) and adhered the overlapping ends using sticky strip at the front of the book.

Stamped December 25 stamp on Sahara Sand card stock using Basic Black ink and then punched it out using the Decorative Label punch.  Sponged Not Quite Navy ink around the edges of the punch and then adhered it to the belly band.  Added Designer frame using silver brads.  Note:  I put a piece of clear tape over the back of the brads so they would not get hung up when sliding the belly band on and off of the book.

Here is the finshed gift card holders.

May your creativity be overflower today.

Until my next post. . . . . .

Hugs,
