Hey There,

Well we are down to just a 8 more days until Christmas. Do you have your cards in the mail? Are they still in pieces, lol? Maybe still in your mind? I have a few in each state. With that being said, I’ve decided to take a bit of time off from blogging to catch up on some projects I have in the works and to try to just enjoy the holidays. I will be available via e-mail and of course, by phone should you have Stampin’ Up! business or wish to register for my up coming Brayer Workshops and Direct to Paper Workshops. Stamped one owl in Basic Gray ink and another one in Soft Suede ink on a 2.75″ x 4.5″ River Rock card stock.

Drew in some rough branches using an Early Espresso marker.

Added snow to the branches, colored in the whites of the owls eyes, colored in the owl’s beak and added dots for snow using a white gel pen.

Stamped the sentiment from the Stampin’ Up! set Short & Sweet using Cherry Cobbler ink.

Cut two strips 1.5″ x 4.5″ from Designer Series paper.

Held them together and punched half of a 1 3/4″ circle from the paper.

Smeared Cherry Cobbler ink on the edge of the strips.

Trimmed up the strips where they over lapped when you put the circle edges together.

Cut 2 River Rock stars and 2 Cherry Cobbler stars using the Star die cut and the Big Shot Machine. River Rock are the smallest star and Cherry Cobber is the next size up.

Added a River Rock 5″ x 6.5″ panel and a Early Espresso 4.75″ x 6.25″ panel.

Assembled the card adding gold brads and Cherry Cobbler ribbon.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Trendy Trees

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Cajun Craze, Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise and Autumn Meadows Designer Series Papers

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, More Mustard, Cajun Craze, Tempting Turquoise and Night of Navy

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Tempting Turquoise Brads, Brayer, Trinket Key, Oval Die, Big Shot Machine, 1 3/4″ & 1 3/8″ circle punches, Sponges, Soft Suede Ribbon.

Cut an oval using the Stampin’ Up! Ovals Die (Largest Oval on the Die) out of Whisper White card stock using the Big Shot Machine.

Brayered More Mustard on one half of the oval.

Brayered Cajun Craze ink on the More Mustard ink, not covering it entirely.

Brayed Tempting Turquoise ink on the other half of the card stock.

Brayered Night to Navy ink over the Tempting Turquoise ink, not covering it entirely.

Stamped the leaves and trunk of the tree using Basic Black ink.

Sponged Basic Black ink in for the ground and around the edges of the card stock.

Punched a 1 3/4″ circle from Cajun Craze and a 1 3/8″ circle from Whisper White.

Sponged Tempting Turquoise ink around the edges of the Whisper White circle.

Added a Tempting Turquoise panel, 2 Cajun Craze panels, 2 panels from Autumn Meadows designer paper, Soft Suede Ribbon and Key Trinket.

Added Tempting Turquoise brads and another Cajun Craze card stock panel.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I put together a rustic Winter scene for you today. I was gearing this card more towards manly than feminine so, I left off any form of frill, such as, ribbon and glitter. I also, left off any type of sentiment since this scene could be used for so many occasions and I don’t know what the user would be using it for.

Cut 2 4″ x 9″ piece of Whisper White. I know I want my main image panel to cross over my card at a diagonal so I held the card stock the way I wanted the main image panel to appear in the finished card and then cut the sides off of it using a paper cutter.

Using a glass mat and a craft knife, cut out a curly branch from Whisper White card stock. Note: when using a craft knife, move the card stock, not the knife when cutting. This gives you better control and not such choppy lines.

Colored part of the branch using a Basic Black marker, leaving the areas that I wanted snow to appear white.

Punched 3 berries using a hole punch and Cherry Cobbler card stock.

Punched 2 birds, one from More Mustard card stock and one from Cherry Cobbler card stock.

Cut the beak off of the Cherry Cobbler bird and layered it over the More Mustard bird.

Added Cherry Cobbler marker to the bottom of the bird and the bird’s wing. Followed up with a bit of Basic Black marker at the very bottom edge of the bird and the bird’s wing. Also added a Basic Black dot for the bird’s eye.

Now back to our main image panel. Masked the bottom of the card stock using a post it note with a ripped jagged edge. This mask is masking our snow area.

Brayered Baja Breeze ink in the sky area.

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock, not covering the Baja Breeze ink entirely.

Sponged a hint of Not Quite Navy at the horizon line (post it note edge).

Stamped a hint of trees in the distances using Baja Breeze ink and the pines from Stampin’ Up! set Plant Hope.

Removed the post it note mask and put a new one on that has a hill ripped into it. Sponged Baja Breeze ink at the post it note edge.

Move the post it note down and over and sponged in another drift using Baja Breeze ink.

Removed the post it note and sponge Baja Breeze ink at the very bottom of the card stock.

Assembled my bird, branch and berries onto the main image panel.

Cut a 3.75″ x 8.75″ piece of Stampin’ Up! Frostwood Lodge Designer Series Paper and then sponged Soft Suede ink around the edges of the both the paper and the main image panel.

Added a 4″ x 9″ Baja Breeze card stock panel and assembled.

Using the mat pack and piercing tool, pierced holes along the edge of the main image panel on both sides.

Added a dash of White gel pen from one hole to the next to create faux stitching.

Punched a decortive lable punch from Soft Suede card stock and then cut it in half. Sponged Basic Black ink around the edges of each piece.

Added them to my card front along with 4 Basic Black brads. Sponged Basic Black ink all around the card front edges.

Added a white gel pen highlight to the top of each berry and a Cherry Cobbler marker shadow to the bottom of each berry.

Here is the finished card measuring 4″ x 9″.

Colorful Winter Scene – Tutorial #474

How about a bright Winter Scene today? This card would probably help take away those Winter Blues for someone since it is loaded with bright colors. The complete tutorial is below. Hang out, check it out and then create it.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Lovely as a Tree and You’re a Gem

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze, Cajun Craze, Old Olive and Whisper White

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Old Olive, Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie and Cajun Craze

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Gold Brads, Old Olive Ribbon, Brayer, Tab and 1 3/4″ circle punches, color coach and post it notes.

Ripped the top edge off of a post it note and used it to mask the snow at the bottom of a 2.25″ x 4.75″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Brayered Pumpkin Pie ink in the unmasked area.

Punched a 1 3/4″ circle from a post it note and used it to mask the sun.

Brayered more Pumpkin Pie ink on.

Brayer Cajun Craze ink at the top of the card stock, covering the Pumpkin Pie ink entirely.

Removed the sun mask and stamped the trees from the Stampin’ Up! set Lovely as a Tree set using Basic Black ink.

Removed the mask and cut a triangle out of the right side of the card stock.

Now, I can create a scene in a couple minutes flat, but it’s coming up with the color combo that takes me so much time. When I want to get done quickly, I turn to my Stampin’ Up! Color Coach. I just flip to the color that is most prominent in my scene and then look on the back of the card and there I find the must fabulous color combos for that color. Love it!

Cut a 4.75″ Old Olive Panel, Baja Breeze 1.75″ x 3.5″, Cajun Craze 1″ x 1.75″. Cut the triangle out of the Cajun Craze and Baja Breeze pieces and then run all 3 pieces, one at a time, through the Big Shot using the Dots embossing folder.

Stamped my sentiment using Old Olive ink on a piece of Whisper White. Line the image up in the tab punch and punched it out.

Assembled my card, adding a 5.25″ sqare Baja Breeze panel and 5″ square Cajun Craze panel, Old Olive Ribbon and Gold Brads. Here it is finished measuring 5.25″ square.

Butterfly in Winter – Tutorial #473

Hey There,

No Christmas (seasonal) card for today’s tutorial. I got to thinking about something a friend once voiced to me. She has a winter birthday and she always gets winter looking cards on her birthday. You know, snowmen, snowflakes etc. Do you have a Winter birthday? Do you tend to get Winter looking cards?

Anyhow, I decided to create a very feminine card today using some darker backgrounds but keeping the main image panel light. I think my friend will enjoy this creation.

Now the butterfly on this card is not cut out. It is stamped directly on the main image panel. With a little white gel pen and marker you can get that butterfly to come right off of the card stock, grin.

Also, you may wonder where on earth did Michelle get the stamp set below? It is a Stampin’ Up! set, Flores Suaves, item number 112913 and it is current. I found it in the Spanish Stampin’ Up! Catalog. Click Here to check it out. Such a wonderful stamp set. I know, not only do I have to have everything in the Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalog, Mini Catalogs, but I also am looking at the other catalogs, even though I don’t speak the language. It’s a sickness. I’m pretty sure the white coats are on their way to get me as we speak.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Fores Suaves and Vintage Vogue

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake card stock and Mocha Morning Designer Series Paper

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Pacific Point, Tempting Turquoise, Crumb Cake, Gold and Soft Suede

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Gold Brads, Basic Black Ribbon, White Gel Pen, Tempting Turquoise & Sahara Sand Markers, Blender Pen, Sponges, Basic Pearls and Prismacolor Gold Marker.

Cut a Top Note Die from Crumb Cake card stock using the Big Shot Machine.

Sponged Tempting Turquoise on the Crumb Cake Top Note.

Added Pacific Point ink around the edges of the top note.

Stamped the writing stamp from the Flores Sauves set using Crumb Cake ink a couple of times down the middle of the card stock.

Stamped the Flourish from the Vintage Vogue stamp set using Gold ink.

Using the Prismacolor marker, colored the edge of the top note die. Love using this technique. Saves you from adding expensive gold card stock and postage.

Stamped the next flourish from the Vintage Vogue set using Pacific Point ink.

Stamped the Butterfly from the Flores Sauves stamp set using Soft Suede ink. Colored in the image using a Blender Pen and Tempting Turquoise marker. To get the lighter color I scribbled a little of the Tempting Turquoise on a non porous surface and then picked the color up with the Blender Pen to color with. The stronger color toward the center of the wings was achieved using straight marker.

Added white gel pen to the top of the butterfly and to the leaves of the flourish. Created the shadow of the butterfly by outlining the bottom of the butterfly using the Sahara Sand Marker. See how it give it dimension, grin. So little effort, but adds a big punch.

Added a line of Tempting Turquoise marker to the top of the Gold stamped flourish.

Added a Basic Black panel, Soft Suede panel, 2 Mocha Morning Designer Series Paper panels, Basic Black ribbon, 2 gold brads and pearls down the butterflies body. Yep, that’s right I used bling today, woohoo!

Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ square.

Christmas Faux Wood Wall – Tutortial #472

Hey There,

If you are like me you are scrambling trying to get those holiday cards all made. Today’s tutorial below shows you how to put a faux wood wall in your Christmas scene. This tutorial also highlights the cute Stampin’ Up! set Stitched Stockings and the matching punch (Click here to see them in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini Catalog). Working on a non porous surface, put a little Soft Suede Re-inker on in a line, dip the edge of a credit card, or in my case my Subway card, lol, in the ink and then drag it from the top down the card stock. Keep applying the ink until you get the look you want. I like to leave a bit of my card stock showing through. (You can also turn the card stock and work from the bottom edge up to fill the card stock in).

Using a ruler and lining things up with my grid pad below my card stock, made lines from the top of the card stock to the bottom every 3/4″. Next made lines about 2″ from the top across every other section. Moved the ruler down and and made a line across the sections I did not do above.

Added dots to simulate nail holes.

Sponged Basic Black ink around the edges to distress it.

Stamped the stocking with Pool Party and with Pear Pizzazz on a scrap piece of Whisper White card stock.

Punched the stockings out. If you look from the bottom of the punch it is super easy to line things up. 🙂

Stamped the toe, heel and band using Pear Pizzazz and Pool Party on Whisper White card stock. Punch the images out.

Assembled my stockings.

Stamped the Stampin’ Up! Many Merry Messages using Whisper White ink.

Added mini brads, Ribbon and a Stampin’ Dimensional under the toe of the stockings for some lift.

My sentiment wasn’t popping enough so I traced it using a White Gel pen. Yep, now it pops!

Added 2 Pear Pizzazz layers and a Pool Party layer. Also added Russ and my name using an Early Espresso marker.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ square.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Forest Festivities

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze, Pacific Point and Whisper White.

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze, Pacific Point and Basic Black

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! 1 3/4″ Circl Punch, Snowflake punch, sponge, post it note, Brayer, Rhinestones, Northern Flurry Embossing Folder, White Gel Pen, Blender Pen, Markers (Old Olive, Cajun Craze and More Mustard) and Dazzling Details.

Punched a 1 3/4″ circle punch from a post it note and used it as a mask for the moon. Put the mask on a 2.5″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock. Added a post it note mask that has a bit of the sticky edge torn off of it.

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Pacific Point ink at the top of the card stock.

Removed the masks and put them aside for another step.

Mask the top of the card stock and 1/2″ of the white snow with a post it note. Brayered Baja Breeze ink at on the unmask area.

Removed the post it note mask and put the other 2 mask back on to create the reflection side. Put the torn post it note 1/2″ below the white area and the moon mask on to make the reflection of the moon. Brayered more Baja Breeze ink on.

Brayered Pacific Point at the top of the area.

Removed all of the masks. Stamped the fox using Basic Black ink at the top of the card stock. Stamped the fox using Basic Black ink on my Stamp-a-ma-jig plastic sheet (slick side). Flipped the plastic sheet over and lined up the reflection of the fox. Rolled my brayer over the plastic sheet to transfer the image.

Colored the Cajun Craze marker on the plastic sheet and used a blender pen dipped in the Cajun Craze to color the fox and his reflection in.

Remember to be lighter in color on the reflection side.

Added Cajun Craze marker directly to the image in the dark areas and then used the blender pen to blend the color in.

Added Old Olive marker to the top fox’s present and scarf. Used the Blender Pen and color I scribbled on the plastic sheet to color in the reflection side.

Added More Mustard marker to the Fox’s scarf and the blender pen to color in the reflection side.

Added White Gel pen to make water lines in the bottom of the scene. Also colored in the top fox’s belly where it has some blue from the sky showing through.

Punch 3 Stampin’ Up! snowflakes out of Whisper White.

Used the Northern Flurry embossing folder and Big Shot Machine to emboss my Baja Breeze panel. I love to emboss a panel on my cards to give that texture without adding weight.

Here are the measurements for the panels. 🙂

Sponged Pacific Point ink around the edges of the Baja Breeze Panel.

Assembled the card front slipping one of the snowflakes under the Whisper White panel. Added Rhinestones to the center of each snowflake.

It’s hard to see in this photo, but I added Dazzling Details to the top half of the snow. Love the way this sparkles.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Winter Post – Tutorial #470

Hi There,

Well life is getting back to normal now that Russ’ ticker is ticking correctly. 🙂 Whew!

Anyhow, my Sis, Sonja is here visiting from Colorado and has been on a mission creating cards. She doesn’t stamp much at her home but when she visits me she likes to take full advantage of my stamp room, grin. It’s always fun seeing your obsession through someone else’s eyes. Makes me realize how blessed I am to have all the crafting supplies that I have. And yes, you really realize what an abundance of stuff you collect. The one with the most stamps at the end wins, right?

Since my Sis wants to hang out in my stamp room I decided to start making my Christmas cards. I’m not one to crank out 150 cards of one design. Mass production is definitely not my thing. So today’s tutorial is one of many Christmas card designs that I will be sending out personally to friends and family. This one comes together very quickly. I hope you enjoy the tutorial below, as much as I enjoyed making it.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Winter Post

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Letters to Santa Designer Series Paper, Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler and Soft Suede card stock.

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Early Espresso and Basic Black

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler Ribbon, Snowflake punch, sponge, post it note.

Cut my card stock layers, the picture show layers largest to smallest with measurements (Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Letters to Santa Designer Paper and Soft Suede.

Sponged two Early Espresso ink spots on the Soft Suede main image panel. The spots are where I will be punching out the snowflakes.

Punched out 2 snowflakes.

Ripped a hill shape in a post it note and put it on my card stock as a mask to create the hill shape by sponging in Early Espresso ink.

Stamped the deer using Basic Black ink.

Adhered the main image panel to the Designer Series paper.

Assembled the rest of my card and added Cherry Cobbler ribbon. Here is the finished card measuring 4.25″ x 5.5″.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Season of Friendship

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! White Glossy, Old Olive, Basic Black and Cajun Craze

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Cajun Craze, More Mustard, Cherry Cobbler and Soft Suede

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Brayer, 1″ square punch, Old Olive Ribbon, Glimmer Brads, Candle, Krylon Fixative

Brayered More Mustard ink on a 3.25″ x 4.5″ piece of Glossy card stock.

Brayered Cajun Craze ink at the top of the card stock, not covering the More Mustard ink entirely.

Brayered Cherry Cobbler ink at the very top of the card stock.

Brayered Soft Suede ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Here is where the project gets fun!

Hold the card stock in the candle flame, ink side down. Moving the card stock at all times until the soot covers the card stock. Be careful to not catch the edges of the card stock on fire. You will not want to touch the soot on the card stock either or you will have finger prints on it.

Stamp the tree on the card stock. Note: the stamp does not have any ink on it.

The stamp will take the soot off of the cardstock.

Stamped the leaves.

Use a fixative to cover the card stock so your soot does not rub off. I used Krylon Fixative and it turned out perfect.

Punched a 1″ square from Cajun Craze card stock and then cut the square in half.

Assembled my card adding 2 Old Olive panels, 1 Basic Black panel, 2 Glimmer Brads and Old Olive Ribbon.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ square.

Lurking – Tutorial #468

Hey There,

Today’s tutorial below was created using one of my favorite technique combinations, emboss resist with a brayered background. I could not resist using this Stampin’ Up! Wolf stamp from the set “In Wilderness” and have this beautiful creature peeking out of the brush.

What do you think, peaceful or scary? Anytime I use a wolf image there is mixed reactions. I find it peaceful myself.

Now on with the tutorial. . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! In Wilderness and Just Believe

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Baja Breeze, Cajun Craze and Island Indigo

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Cajun Craze, Island Indigo, Baja Breeze and Basic Black

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponges, Brayer, 3″ circle Die, Big Shot Machine, Versamark Marker and Pad, Sahara Sand Marker, Silver Brads, Island Indigo Ruffled Ribbon, Large Bird Punch, clear embossing powder, heat gun

Die cut a 3″ circle out of Whisper White card stock using the Big Shot Machine and 3″ circle die.

Stamped the plant from the Stampin’ Up! set Just Believe by loading the stamp first with Versamark and then with Cajun Craze ink before stamping it on the circle.

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped the Wolf head by loading the stamp with Versamark and then with Basic Black ink before stamping it.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the wolf with Sahara Sand Marker.

Colored over the entire wolf using a Versamark marker. Heat embossed the image again using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at the top of the card stock.

Any time you put ink onto your embossed images be sure to buff it off lightly to remove the ink from the embossed images so it doesn’t stain them.

Brayered Island Indigo ink at the very top of the card stock, not covering the Baja Breeze entirely.

Stamp the plant again using Baja Breeze to get some in the back ground.

Add the plant to the middle ground using Island Indigo ink.

Sponge Island Indigo at the bottom of the card stock.

Sponge Basic Black at the bottom of the card stock.

Cut a 5″ square of Baja Breeze card stock and stamp the plant around the edges using Cajun Craze ink.

Here are the measurements for the panels (2 Cajun Craze, 2 Baja Breeze and 1 Island Indigo).

Assembled the card front and added Island Indigo Ruffled Ribbon and Silver Brads.

Punched the leaves out of Island Indigo card stock using the Large Bird Punch. Cut the stem off of the leaves and put one in each corner.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.5″ square.
