Terracotta Wall – Tutorial #416

I decided I needed an embossing powder fix this morning.  I got out my clear embossing powder and created this very feminine card using the Stampin’ Up! Hostess set Cute By the Inch and Elements of Style stamp set.

Ever since I first layed eyes on the block stamp in  the Cute by the Ink set I knew I wanted to create a little wall using it.

Grab a cup of your favorite beverage and take a break for  a few moments to follow along.

Let’s get started. . . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Cute by the Inch and Elements of Style
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze, Cajun Craze, Old Olive, Basic Black and Whisper White
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze, Basic Black and Whisper White
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze Seam Binding, Rhinestone Brads, White Gel Pen, Cajun Craze and Basic Black Markers, Brayer, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Versamark pad, Clear embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Photo Corner Punch, Post it notes
Techniques: Emboss Resist and Brayering

The Stampin’ Up USA Idea book and Catalog is here.   For your copy, please send a check for $9.95 to Michelle Zindorf, P.O. Box 116, West Alexandria, OH 45381 or send it via paypal to mzindorf@aim.com USA only.     My current customers will receive a new Occasions Mini Catalog automatically from me.   Not a current customer and want a free copy of the new Occasions Mini Catalog ?  E-mail your mailing address to mzindorf@aim.com and I will get one in the mail to you.  )  Are you getting inspiration from this blog?   One way you can help support it is to order your Stampin’ Up products through me.   Click HERE to place an order.    Want to become a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator , receive a 20% discount on product and earn instant income on orders?  Consider being part of my Stampin’ Up Team and start your own business or become a Hobby Demo just for the discount.  Click HERE for more information.

Stamp the block from the Stampin’ Up Set Cute by the Inch 3 times on a 3″ square piece of Whisper White  Card stock using Basic Black Craft ink and then heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Masked around the blocks using 3 post it notes.

Smeared ink on the unmasked area using the edge of a Cajun Craze ink pad.

Smeared the edge of a Versamark pad over the unmasked area and heat embossed the unmasked area using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  Note:  Leave post it notes on during the heat embossing stage.

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at an angle on the top right hand corner.

Brayered Cajun Craze ink at the top right hand corner, not covering the Baja Breeze ink entirely.

Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig tool for placement, stamped flourish from the Stampin’ Up set Elements of Style using Old Olive ink.

Added a Basic Black marker outline under some of the flourish to create a shadow.  Also colored in the dots in the design using the same Basic Black marker.

Colored the flowers in using a Cajun Craze marker.

Added a few highlights to the flourish.

Added a Baja Breeze panel under the main image panel and a 5.25″ square panel under the Baja Breeze panel.  Stamped the flourish four times using Craft Whisper White ink and then dried the ink using a heat gun.

Added a 5.5″ square Baja Breeze panel, Baja Breeze Seam Binding, Rhinestone brads and small Basic Black photo corners.

Here is the finished project measuring 5.5″ square.

May you experience nothing but peace and harmony today.

Until my next post. . . . . . .

Michelle

Happy Little Mushrooms – Tutorial #415

Yuck, allergy season.  Like everyone else I am struggling a bit with allergies.  Spring is officially here, lol.     Spent the day yesterday at the doc’s office, getting my presciptions filled and resting.   Today I am feeling a bit more human and I wanted to reflect that feeling by making this cheerful card using the Stampin’ Up! set Funky Four with my much loved Stampin’ Up set Baroque Motifs.   CLICK HERE TO ENTER FOR A CHANCE TO WIN THE FUNKY FOUR STAMP SET.

Let’s get started on today’s tutorial. . . .  . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Funky Four and Baroque Motifs
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Tangerine Tango and Not Quite Navy
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Not Quite Navy, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Tangerine Tango and Always Artichoke
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponges, Brayer, Clear embossing powder, heat gun, White Gel Pen, Old Olive Seam Binding, Markers – Always Artichoke, So Saffron & More Mustard, Versamark pad and marker, post it note, So Saffron brads, color coach

To get started today, I pulled out my Stampin’ Up! Color Coach  to be inspired by a color combo.   I found my starting color combo right on the Tangerine Tango card.   This color combo says “happy” to me and that is what I was looking for.

Stamped the mushrooms on a 3.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then with Tangerine Tango ink before stamping it.  Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the mushrooms in with a So Saffron Marker.  Added More Mustard marker to the dark areas of the mushrooms and then colored over the areas again with the So Saffron marker to blend.

Colored over the mushroom, staying within the embossed image, using a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Brayered Tangerine Tango ink at the top right corner of the card stock.

Ripped a fine edge off of a post it note and used it as a mask for the ground area of my scene.

Brayered Tempting Turquoise ink at the bottom left corner of the sky area.

Removed the mask and wiped the ink off of my embossed images using a paper towel.

Sponged Old Olive ink in the ground area.

Stamped the Baroque Motifs Flourish using Always Artichoke ink and then wiped the ink off of my embossed images using a paper towel.

Stamped the Baroque Motifs flower twice using Tangerine Tango ink.

Sponged Not Quite navy ink at the bottom left corner of the card stock.

Added a little bit of a shadow at the base of the mushrooms using an Always Artichoke marker.

Added a few highlights to the flower with a white gel pen.

Cut a 4.75″ panel from Not Quite Navy card stock and dry embossed it using the Flourish Texture Plate and Big Shot Machine.

Brayered over the embossed card stock with Tempting Turquoise ink to bring out the embossing a bit.

Added Whisper White and Tangerine Tango card stock panels, So Saffron Brads and Old Olive Seam Binding.

Here is my completed card measuring 5.25″ square.

A Little food for thought before I close today.

Imperfection
By Elizabeth Carlson

I am falling in love
with my imperfections
The way I never get the sink really clean,
forget to check my oil,
lose my car in parking lots,
miss appointments I have written down,
am just a little late.

I am learning to love the small bumps on my face
the big bump of my nose,
my hairless scalp,
chipped nail polish,
toes that overlap.
Learning to love
the open-ended mystery
of not knowing why

I am learning to fail
to make lists,
use my time wisely,
read the books I should.

Instead I practice inconsistency,
irrationality, forgetfulness.

Probably I should
hang my clothes neatly in the closet
all the shirts together, then the pants,
send Christmas cards, or better yet
a letter telling of
my perfect family.

But I’d rather waste time
listening to the rain,
or lying underneath my cat
learning to purr.

I used to fill every moment
with something I could
cross off later.

Perfect was
the laundry done and folded
all my papers graded
the whole truth and nothing

but

Now the empty mind is what I seek
the formless shape
the strange off center
sometimes fictional me.

May you have good health today and always.

Until my next post. . .  . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Plastic Wrap Textured Sky – Tutorial #414

Whew, folks I am running behind today.    Ever feel like you are running, running, running and not getting any where?  Well that is me right now.    Really, I’m getting some things done but nothing that has been on my to do list.  It’s probably just the Monday morning feeling.

I did completely take the weekend off.  It was the first weekend I’ve had home in over six weeks so it was well deserved.  Patting myself on the back for that one, pat, pat, pat.  🙂  Russ kept looking at me with that puzzled look on this face, like “don’t you have some where to go.”  LOL   Really, we spent every moment together.   Now back to the real world.   Time for a stamping tutorial. . . .  .

Today’s card was designed for my Stampin’ Up Down Line Team Technique Swap.   I needed to use the crumpled Plastic Wrap technique.  I used it in this scene and it gave the background a painted look.   I maybe on to something here.   Note, my photo above does not show the texture that the project has in real life.  You can see it better in the photos of the last few steps of this project.

Let’s get started. . . . .

Supplies:

  • Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Lovely As a Tree
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Whisper White and Old Olive
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Old Olive, More Mustard, So Saffron, Not Quite Navy, Cajun Craze and Bashful Blue
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Markers – More Mustard, Soft Suede and Basic Black, Brayer, Silver Brads, Post it Note, Word Window Punch
Techniques: Crumpled Plastic Wrap, Brayer, Direct to Paper

Die cut a Top Note Die out of Whisper White card stock using the Big Shot Machine.

Ripped the edge off of a post it note and used it as a mask for the ground.

Brayered Bashful Blue ink at the bottom of the sky area.

Brayered So Saffron ink at the top of the sky area.

Crumpled a piece of plastic wrap and dabbed it into Not Quite Navy  ink and then on the Bashful Blue area of the card stock.

Used another piece of plastic wrap and crumpled it and pounced on More Mustard ink the in the So Saffron area of the sky area.

Using the same plastic Wrap, pounced on Cajun Craze ink at the top of the card stock.

Stamped the top of the tree using Not Quite Navy ink right above the post it note to create bushes.

Removed the post it note mask.  Using the edge of the So Saffron ink pad, smeared ink from the top of the bushed to the bottom of the card stock.  I put it over the bushes to create another color of free.   Blue and yellow make green.  🙂

Stamped the tree using Basic Black ink.

Using the side of the brush end of a Soft Suede marker, dabbed the color in the leafy area of the tree, not coloring it completely.

Using the side of the brush end of a More Mustard marker, dabbed it on the leafy area of the tree fillng it in the rest of the way.

Colored in the tree trunk with a Basic Black marker.  Added a bit to the leafy area to create the look of limbs.

Used the edge of a More Mustard ink pad and short strokes to create the look of grasses.

Used the edge of an Old Olive ink pad and short strokes first to create short grasses in the field.  Then added longer grasses with the edge of the ink pad in the foreground using longer strokes.

Using the edge of a Basic Black ink spot, added longer grasses in the foreground.

Smeared basic Black ink around the ege of the card stock.  This really made the stitches in the die cut stand out.

Added a 5″ x 6.5″ Basic Black panel, a 4.75″ 6.25″ Old Olive Panel, another 5″ x 6.5″ Basic Black panel with the right side of the card stock torn off, 2 Word Window punches with the right ends cut off.

    .

Added 6 silver brads and here is the finish card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May your Monday be very productive.

    Until my next post. . . .  . . .

    Hugs,

    Michelle

Brayered Marina Mist ink at the top of a 3″ square piece of Whisper White card stock.

Masked the bottom of the card stock and stamped the tops of the pine trees using Marina mist on the card stock.

Removed the mask, using the edge of the So Saffron ink spot swiped the ink on the card stock bottom.

Using the edge of an Old Olive ink spot added some green at the top of the ground area.

Loaded the tree with Pumpkin Pie ink, dabbed on a bit of Cherry Cobbler ink at the top of the leafy area and the bottom of the grassy area, colored in the tree trunk with a Basic Black marker, huffed my breath on the stamp to moisten and then stamped the image on the left side of the card stock.

Using the Edge of an Old Olive ink spot created grasses at the bottom of the card stock.

Added White Gel Pen highlights to the leaves of the tree and grasses.  Added a few grasses using the Old Olive marker.

Sponged the top left corner in with Marina Mist ink.

Stamped the Deer using Basic Black ink.

Distressed the edges of the card stock using Basic Black ink and a sponge.

Cut a Basic Black Panel 4.75″ x 6″ and then cut the bottom 2.5″ off.  This gave me my two black panels.

Also cut a 5″ x6.5″ piece of Old Olive card stock and a 3.25″ piece of Old Olive.

Assembled my card and here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May your day be filled with people that love you.

    On with the tutorial. . . .

Stamped the tree on a 3.75″ x 6.25″ piece of Whisper White card stock by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then loaded it with So Saffron ink before stamping it.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Ripped the very edge off of a post it note and then masked the bottom of card stock.

Brayered Bashful Bliss ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Pacific Point ink at the bottom of the un-masked area.

Make sure you gently wipe the ink from your embossed image using a paper towel every time you get ink on it.

Sponged a hill in using Chocolate Chip ink.

Sponged a Basic Black hill in, over lapping the Chocolate Chip hill.

Removed the post it note mask.  Using the edge of the So Saffron ink pad, smeared ink across the ground area in the scene.

Using the corner of an More Mustard ink pad, smeared ink across the ground area.

Added a bit of Sahara Sand ink.

Stamped the tree using Basic Black ink to create a shadow for the tree.

Added Basic Black marker to the sides of the branches, next to the embossed image.   The marker will not stick to the embossed image.

Wiped the ink from the embossed image.  Found the Basic Black ink stained the middle of the tree trunk when I put in the hill, so I purposely stained the bottom of the tree trunk by smearing ink on the embossed tree using the corner of the ink pad.  Let the ink sit for a moment and then wiped it off.     Be careful with this step so you don’t get any on your background.

Added Soft Suede ink using the corner of the ink pad.

Added White gel pen to the left side of the tree.

    Added a 3 7/8″ x 6 3/8″ Bashful Blue Panel, 5″ x 6.5″ Early Espresso Panel and 6 small Bashful Blue Photo Corner Punches.

Added 6 Gold Brads.  Here is the finished project measuring 5′ x 6.5″.

    Have a super weekend!

    Until my next post. . . .  . . . . .

    Hugs,

    Michelle

Emboss Resist Bunny Tutorial #410 and a Blog Candy Winner

Gotta create a Bunny card in the Spring, right?    Especially after hanging out at the Tracker Supply Company looking at the baby bunnies, chicks and ducks.  You know they are in the stores right now.   It was so funny when my son, Jesse (age 30) and I popped into the store last week.  Here we are out in farm country looking like city folk, taking pics of the baby bunnies, chicks and ducks using our cell phones, lol.  I’m sure the farmers were thinking, what the heck, as they scratched their heads.

Instead of buying a cute, cute, cute baby bunny to take care of I created this card instead.  🙂   Stay a while and check out this emboss resist card.

    But first, I have a blog candy winner to announce. .  . . . . . . . . . And the winner is. . . .. . . . . . .. .

Nina Babcock who wrote “Each week I so look forward to your new creations. I place my cursor on your e-mail and wait with expectancy to see what you have to share with us. I, along with many others, admire your talent and consistancy just so we can have a part of what you do. Thank you.

Nina Babcock, Congratulations!  Please e-mail your address to mzindorf@aim.com within 30 days and I will get this set right out to you.

Thanks to all who played along!

    Now let’s start the tutorial. . . . .

    Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! The Nicest Things, Thoughts & Prayers
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Cajun Craze and Old Olive
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Early Espresso, Always Artichoke, Pear Pizzazz, Pacific Point, Tempting Turquoise and Craft Basic Black
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponge, Baja Breeze Seam Binding, Antique Brads, Markers – So Saffron, Peach Parfait, Cajun Craze, Basic Black, River Rock, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Brayer, Versamark Marker, Clear embossing powder and Heat gun, 3″ circle Die, Top Note Di
    Techniques: Embossed Resist, Brayering

Die cut a 3″ circle from Whisper White card stock using my big shot machine and 3″ circle die.

Stamped the bunny using Craft Basic Black ink and then heat embossed it using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the bunny using So Saffron marker, then Crumb Cake marker, then Soft Suede marker.

Colored over the whole bunny again using a So Saffron Marker to blend it all together.

Colored the pot label using a River Rock marker.

Colored the pot using So Saffron marker, Peach Parfait marker and Cajun Craze Marker.

Colored over the entire pot with the So Saffron marker to blend all of the colors.

Colored over the colored image with a Versamark marker, making sure to stay inside the lines and then heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped the flowers using Craft Basic Black ink and then heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the center of the flowers using the So Saffron marker and then colored the flowers in with the Versamark marker.  Heat embossed the flowers using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.   Now the images are well protected and will resist the ink that will be put on for the back ground.

Brayered Tempting Turquoise ink at the top of the card stock.   Then Brayered Pacific Point at the top of the card stock, not covering the Tempting Turquoise ink entirely.

Then Brayered Pacific Point at the top of the card stock, not covering the Tempting Turquoise ink entirely.

Brayered Pear Pizzazz ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Brayered Always Artichoke ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Pear Pizzazz ink entirely.

Wipe embossed images off with a paper towel after you brayer over them.

Stamped the Thoughts and Prayers Tree using Early Espresso ink.

Added highlights to the left side of the tree and dots in the branches using a White Gel Pen.

Added a shadow to the left side of the tree.

Die cut a Top Note Die from Cajun Craze card stock using my Big Shot Machine.

Embossed the Top Note die and a 4.75″ Old Olive panel using the Paisley Texture plate and Big Shot Machine.

Added a 4 7/8″ Cajun Craze Panel and a 5.25″ Old Olive Panel.  Distressed the edges of the card stock panels and the main image panel using Early Espresso ink and a sponge.

Assembled the card adding Baja Breeze Seam Binding and Antique Brads.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ Square.

Before I close, I want to share something that I received via e-mail.   I found it very inspiring.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER – by Erma Bombeck
(written after she found out she was dying of cancer).

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren’t there for the day.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the ‘good’ living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn’t show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, ‘Later. Now go get washed up for dinner.’ There would have been more ‘I love you’ More ‘I’m sorry’s.’

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute, look at it, and really see it . . live it and never give it back.
    STOP SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF!!!

Don’t worry about who doesn’t like you, who has more, or who’s doing what.  Instead, let’s cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.

May you feel Spring in the air today.

    Until my next post. . . . . . .

    Hugs,

    Michelle
