Cardinal Not Just for Christmas – Tutorial #237

dsc00039.JPG

Oh, how I love to take stamps that are out of season and use them on a card that is timeless.  This Cardinal is from a Stampin’ Up set “A Cardinal Christmas” and as you can see you can use this set year around.

I also tried out my new Big Shot Die “Tulipe”.  I only used part of the die cut.  This Die has a few different design pieces that can be used by themselves or together for the full design.

FYI, I have updated my sales page with stamp sets I am selling.  Here is a link:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/things-for-sale/

Let’s get started on the tutorial. 🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up “A Cardinal Christmas”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Very Vanilla, Sahara Sand, Basic Black
Ink: Stampin’ Up Sahara Sand & Basic Black
Accessories: Versamark Pad and Marker, Prismacolor Markers, Sharpie Metallic Gold Marker, Brayer, Big Shot Die “Tulipe”, Sizzix Texture Plate, Big Shot Die Cutter, Gold Brads & Piercing Tool

dsc00042.JPG

Stamped the Cardinal on a 3.5″ x 5″ piece of Very Vanilla card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then with Basic Black Dye ink before stamping it.

If you have Black pigment ink you do not need the Versamark.  🙂

dsc00012.JPG

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Note:  I only own and use clear embossing powder.  If you use clear embossing powder you can emboss in any color in which you have ink.  🙂  Saves money and space.

dsc00013.JPG

Colored the bird’s beak with a Goldenrod Prismacolor Marker.

dsc00014.JPG

Colored the bird in with a Cherry Prismacolor Marker.

dsc00015.JPG

Colored the darker parts of the bird with a Mahogany Red Prismacolor Marker.

dsc00016.JPG

Colored the leaves in with a Khaki Prismacolor Marker.

dsc00018.JPG

Colored the Berries in with the Mahogany Red Prismacolor Marker.

dsc00019.JPG

Colored the birds feet with a Cool Grey 50% Prismacolor Marker.

dsc00020.JPG

Colored over the image, staying in the embossed lines, with a Versamark Marker.

dsc00021.JPG

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc00022.JPG

Now that my image has been heat embossed it will resist the ink that is stamped over it.

Stamped the Leaf stamp twice with Sahara Sand ink.

dsc00023.JPG

Sponged Sahara Sand ink around the outside edge of the card stock and behind the Sahara Sand Leaves.

dsc00024.JPG

Stamped the leaf stamp again using Basic Black ink.

dsc00025.JPG

Used a Sharpie Metallic Gold Paint Marker on the edge of the card stock.

Note:  Hold the marker half on the card stock and half on the scrap paper and then pull the marker straight down the edge of the card stock.  No ruler needed.

dsc00026.JPG

Used a Stampin’ Up Sizzix Texture Plate on a Sahara Sand card stock panel using my Big Shot.

dsc00027.JPG

Brayered Sahara Sand ink over the texturized panel to bring out the texture better.

dsc00028.JPG

Used the Sharpie Metallic Gold Marker on the edge of both the Sahara Sand and Black panels.

dsc00029.JPG

Used the Tulipe Big Shot Die and ran it through twice with Black card stock.

Only used part of the design on the finished card.

dsc00030.JPG

Added the Die cuts and 4 Gold Brads, using my piercing tool to start my brads.

dsc00031.JPG

Here is the finished design measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

dsc00039.JPG

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to look at your holiday stamps in a different light.  I just might get more use out of them.

May your day be filled with love and happiness.

Until my next post. . . . . . .

Huge Hugs,

Michelle

I woke up this morning with this card rattling around in my head so I started stamping at 5:00 a.m. so I can move on with my day and not forget this idea.  But before we get into the tutorial I have a couple of announcements to make.

You Northern Ohio Readers have requested it so here it is, for one day only I will be teaching my brayer workshops in Fairlawn, Ohio near Akron October 10, 2009.

dsc09884.JPG

Used my Big Shot and Top Note Die to cut this Top Note out of Whisper White card stock.

dsc09860.JPG

I then cut 1.25″ of it off at one end.

dsc09861.JPG

Trimmed the outer edge off of both pieces with scissors.

dsc09862.JPG

Sponged on Summer Sun ink.

dsc09863.JPG

dsc09867.JPG

Took the Post it note off and turned it around so it is masking the bottom of the card stock and sponged a bit of Chocolate Chip ink at the Post it note edge.

dsc09868.JPG

Removed the Post it note and Sponged Dusy Durango on the small piece of card stock and the very top of the larger one.

dsc09869.JPG

Sponged Chocolate Chip ink at the bottom of the large piece and top of the small piece of card stock.

Stamped the Asian Artistry flower twice with Chocolate Chip ink.

I have a bunch of these Sakura Souffle pens and this is the first time I have used one in a tutorial, but I bet you will see this again in the future.  These pens can be used on dark colored card stock and stand out great!  They don’t sink into the card stock put stay raised.

Use the light blue Souffle Sakura pen on the flower portion of the image.  It is hard to see it until it dries completely.

dsc09872.JPG

Added White gel pen highlights to the foliage.

dsc09873.JPG

Cut another Top Note out of Bashful Blue card stock.

dsc09874.JPG

Glued the main image panel pieces to the Bashful Blue Top Note and then cut it apart.

dsc09875.JPG

dsc09876.JPG

Assembled part of the card front and added piercings down the right and left side using the Stampin’ Up Piercing tools and mat kit.

dsc09877.JPG

dsc09878.JPG

Added White Gel Pen from one piercing whole to the next to create faux stitching.

dsc09879.JPG

Added Silver brads and assembled the card the rest of the way.  Here it is finished measuring 5.25″ square.

dsc09883.JPG

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to create a scene today.

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

In The Mountains – Tutorial #231

dsc09856.JPG

Happy Sunday!  I hope everyone that is in the USA had a good time yesterday celebrating our Nations Independence.  My Oldest Son, Jesse invited Russ and I to go to the movies to see Transformers 2.  Great Flick!

I’m a gamer so I am looking forward to picking up the Xbox 360 game as well.  Oh, I guess I have let the cat out of the bag.  Now you really do think I am crazy.  I am getting hooked on RPG (Real Play Games).  I now have 3 game systems, Xbox 360, Wii and a Nintendo DS for when I travel, lol.  My sons that are in their upper 20’s say it is pretty bad when their mother has more games to chose from then they do.  Anyway gaming keeps me off the streets at night, along with stamping that is.  It is also funny when I go to the game store.  They always tell me what the games are rated, assuming I am purchasing them for someone much younger than myself.  My current favorite RPG is Fable 2, love that game!  How did I get on this Tongan?   Enough of me babbling about something that has nothing to do with why you read my post, which is stamping, so let’s get to the tutorial.

Today’s tutorial shows a paring of using Stampin’ Up’s Upsy Daisy and Thoughts & Prayers stamp sets.  These stamp sets work very well together with a bit of a brayered background.  I also extended the scene a bit onto one of my background panels.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Upsy Daisy and Toughts & Prayers
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Bashful Blue & Basic Black
Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Old Olive, Bashful Blue & Not Quite Navy
Accessories: White Gel Pen, Brayer, Sponges & Post it note

Brayered Old Olive at the bottom of a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc09838.JPG

Brayered Bashful Blue at the top of the card stock.

dsc09839.JPG

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink at the very top of the card stock, not covering the Bashful Blue ink entirely.

dsc09840.JPG

Riped a post it note in the same of a mountain and used it as a mask while I sponged Bashful Blue ink at the post it note edge to create the mountain on the card stock.

dsc09841.JPG

dsc09842.JPG

Moved the mask and put in a second mountain by sponging Not Quite Navy at the post it notes edge.

dsc09843.JPG

dsc09844.JPG

Removed the mask and stamped the tree on the right hand side of the card stock by first loading the stamp with Old Olive ink and then patting my black ink pad on the trunk portion of the stamp before stamping it.

dsc09846.JPG

Stamped the flowers with black ink.

dsc09847.JPG

Added White Gel Pen highlights to the tops of the flowers and the left side of the tree trunk.

dsc09849.JPG

Sponged Old Olive ink at the base of the tree trunk to create a shadow casted by the tree.

dsc09850.JPG

On a Bashful Blue card stock panel, brayered Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock and Old Olive ink at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc09851.JPG

Used the same mountain Post it Note mask to extend the mountain onto the background panel by sponging a bit of Not quite Navy ink at the post it notes edge.

dsc09852.JPG

Assembled my card and added a few silver brads.  Here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

dsc09856.JPG

May the beautiful scenes in your life be extended two fold!

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Layered Illusion Floral – Tutorial #230

dsc09834.JPG

This card looks like it has many layers, but it only has (2) two, the main image panel and the Blush Blossom Card.   Stay a moment with me and I will show you how this was all done.

Let’s get right to it.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Bloomin’ Beautiful & Baroque Motifs
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White & Blush Blossom
Ink: Stampin’ Up Sahara Sand, Old Olive, Cameo Coral, Chocolate Chip & Soft Suede
Accessories: Stampin’ Up Markers, Sharpie Metallic Gold Paint Marker, White Gel Pen, Clear embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Versmark Pad & Marker, Post it notes & sponges

Are you inspired by this Blog?  One way you can help support this blog is by ordering your Stampin’ Up products through me.   You can order from me 24-7 from this link:  http://michellezindorf.stampinup.net or e-mail me at mzindorf@aim.com if you are within the United States.  Want a copy of the brand new 2009-2010 Stampin’ Up Catalog for $9.95, just e-mail me at mzindorf@aim.com and I will get one in the mail to you.  Want to become a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator and earn instant income?  Consider being part of my Stampin’ Up Team.

dsc09837.JPG

Started with a 4.75″ square piece of Whisper White card stock and masked the bottom 1″ of it with a post it note.

dsc09812.JPG

dsc09813.JPG

Stamped the flower twice at first loading my stamp with Versamark, Cameo Coral and tapped a bit of Old Olive on the stem area before stamping the image.

dsc09814.JPG

Heat embossed the flowers with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc09815.JPG

Added a bit of Blush Blossom marker to the flower heads.

dsc09817.JPG

Colored in the stems and leaves with a Sahara Sand marker.

dsc09818.JPG

Colored over the flowers and stems with a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the images with clear embossing powder.  If after heating your embossing looks pitted, go over it again with Versamark and clear embossing powder and heat again.  This second layer of embossing really protects the images from the ink we will be putting over them.

dsc09819.JPG

dsc09820.JPG

Yikes, I grabbed my inked up Versamark pad here instead of my clean one, which was my intention.  Oh well, gotta stick with it now that I stamped one of the flourishes with it.

Stamped flourished around the entire outside of the card stock with Versamark only.

dsc09821.JPG

Heat embossed the flourishes with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc09822.JPG

Sponged Sahara Sand ink all over the card stock.

dsc09823.JPG

Masked the center of the cardstock with a post it note.

dsc09824.JPG

Sponged Soft Suede ink around all over the unmasked portion of the card stock.

Can I say love this new In Color!  I will be getting some mileage out of this pad in the future.

dsc09825.JPG

Sponged Chocolate Chip ink around the outside edge of the card stock, not covering the Soft Suede ink entirely.

dsc09826.JPG

Unmasked the panel.

dsc09827.JPG

Sponged Soft Suede lightly over the edges of the previous masked area to soften them some.

dsc09828.JPG

I had a speck of something blue on my card stock so I decided to add the white gel pen dots to hide it.  🙂

dsc09829.JPG

Extended the stems down to the masked line with an Old Olive marker.

dsc09830.JPG

Added a Shadow on the bottom and left side of the previous mask area to create a shadow using a ruler and a Soft Suede marker.  That’s right, for the first time Stampin’ Up has put out markers to match their in colors this year, YEAHHHHHH!

dsc09831.JPG

This is a very easy step that adds so much.  🙂

dsc09832.JPG

Oops!  I see that I missed a photo.  I used a Metallic Gold Sharpie Paint marker on the edge of the card stock to make it look like a gold card stock layer.

Adhered the main image panel to the Blush Blossom card.  Also added some gold cord.  Here it is assembled measuring 5.25″ square.

dsc09834.JPG

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to create layers with your images and shadows.  Two layer cards are a lot lighter to mail.  🙂  And look at all the card stock you could be saving.

May your day be layered with happiness.

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Huge Hugs,

Michelle

Babies Breath Floral – Tutorial #229

dsc09808.JPG

Good afternoon to everyone out there in Blog land.  🙂  During the summer months I struggle, dividing my time up between stamping and gardening.  I would be in a much better state of mind if I could just pick one or the other to do, but my heart is divided.  I can however stamp in a garden theme, like I did in today’s project.  This flower stamp in the Stampin’ Up Set “Friends 24-7” reminds me of the frilly Babies Breath plant that I love to use as filler in bouquets.

My background was smeared on the card stock first and then over stamped with the images.   This is a very simple and fun project.

Let’s get started. . .

Supplies:

Stamps:  Stampin’ Up Friends 24-7

Paper:  Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black, Chocolate Chip & Bordering Blue

Ink:  Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, Bordering Blue & More Mustard

Accessories:   Stampin’ Up Markers, White Gel Pen, Metallic Gold Sharpie Paint Marker, Sponge, Brown Ribbon, Gold Brads.

Are you inspired by this Blog?  One way you can help support this blog is by ordering your Stampin’ Up products through me.   You can order from me 24-7 from this link:  http://michellezindorf.stampinup.net or e-mail me at mzindorf@aim.com if you are within the United States.  Want a copy of the current mini catalog, just e-mail me your address and I will pop one in the mail to you.  Want to become a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator and earn instant income?  Consider being part of my Stampin’ Up Team.

dsc09811.JPG

Started off by smearing More Mustard ink on a 4″ Square piece of Whisper White Card stock.

dsc09793.JPG

Smeared a bit of Bordering Blue ink on the card stock.

dsc09794.JPG

Stamped this flourish stamp with Bordering Blue ink twice on the right side of the card stock and then just the tip of it at the bottom left hand corner.

dsc09795.JPG

Stamped the flower stamp 3 times with Close to Cocoa ink.

dsc09796.JPG

Colored in the stems of the flower with Close to Cocoa marker and the leaves with Chocolate Chip marker.

dsc09797.JPG

Colored the flowers and buds in with a White Gel pen.  Also added white gel pen highlights to the tops of all the leaves.

dsc09798.JPG

Sponged Close to Cocoa ink around the outside edge.

dsc09799.JPG

Sponge Chocolate Chip ink around the outside edge, not covering all of the Close to Cocoa ink entirely.

dsc09800.JPG

Sponged Basic Black ink around the very outside edge of the card stock.

dsc09801.JPG

Used a Metallic Gold Sharpie paint marker and dragged it down the the edge of the card stock, holding the marker half on the card stock and half on the scrap paper.

dsc09802.JPG

Add More Mustard Marker to the center of some of the flowers.

dsc09803.JPG

Dragged the Metallic Gold Sharpie Marker down 3 sides of both my Bordering Blue Panel and my Chocolate Chip Panel.

dsc09805.JPG

Assembled the card fronted and added brads and Brown Ribbon.  Here it is completed measuring 5.5″ square.

dsc09808.JPG

Before I close, don’t forget that the new 2009-2010 Stampin’ Up Idea Book & Catalog comes out today!  Check it out, it is filled with new great sets and chalked full of wonderful card ideas.  The 208 page catalog is $9.95.

dsc09770.JPG

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc09771.JPG

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc09776.JPG

Added some White gel pen lines at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc09777.JPG

Colored in the flower heads with the White Gel Pen.

dsc09778.JPG

Use the negative piece of card stock that I cut a 3″ circle out of with a Circle Cutter for a Mask to create my Moon.  Sponged White Craft ink (Pigment ink) in the open area of the mask.

dsc09779.JPG

Removed the mask and sponged Close to Cocoa at the base of each plant and at the very bottom of the card stock.

dsc09781.JPG

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the top sides and top edge of the card stock.

dsc09782.JPG

Assembled a few simple layers and here is the finished card measuring 4″ x 9″.
