Project Give Thanks

My now cancer free and very brave Sister, Sonja is asking for our Stamping Community’s Help.    Please read her letter below and thank you for helping if you are able.

Good Morning Sista,

I’m thinking about you and your wonderful community of creative card artists.  I’m also thinking about my equally wonderful breast cancer community.  My third thought (I’m really on a roll here;-) is how nice it would be to connect the two communities in a project called “Give Thanks.”  In a nutshell that would involve card artists supplying breast cancer fighters with beautiful hand made cards – Thank You cards, Birthday cards and blank cards.  Here’s a story, which will explain the need for cards and how project “Give Thanks” will work.  (There’s a tidbit about you, Michelle waiting at the end of this letter for anyone who makes it there.  No peeking.)
As you know Michelle, I was diagnosed with stage-3 breast cancer on May 15th 2010 and now I’m almost finished with a long list of treatments and surgeries.  By the end of the summer I’ll be finished with the build a boob program and that will be the last of the ordeal (I hope!).  While everyone knows how difficult it is for cancer fighters they may not know what a tremendous time of thankfulness it is!  Think of all the people it takes to save a cancer patient – radiologists, oncologists, surgeons, chemo technicians, radiation oncologists, physical therapists, massage therapists, nurse advocates, financial consultants, therapists, pharmacist, and each of these has a wonderful staff that do much of the hands on work.  Also, consider all of the family, friends, neighbors, church members and community members that supply comfort, love, food, house cleaning, rides, and gifts (lots of head covers).  Wow!  Can you imagine how thankful you would be to have all of these concerned people by your side during such a life altering event?
Michelle, I know how thankful you are that those people were at my side while you were far away from me.
Believe me, Cancer Fighters Give Thanks!  I’ve already sent out upwards of 100 thank you cards.  It is so therapeutic to remember and appreciate all of the love and care that I received.  But, most of this year I was also very tired, sick or recovering from surgeries.  It was difficult to gather up all of those cards. Also, because I have a Sister who makes outrageously beautiful cards and she shares with me, I didn’t have to spend $3-$4.00 for one special card let alone dozens of cards!  This is why I’m asking the card artist community to join me in project “Give Thanks.”
As is the nature of giving thanks, project “Give Thanks” will benefit everyone!  I’ve already explained how Cancer Fighters will benefit from free Thank You, Birthday and blank cards.  The card artist will benefit from their generosity, support of cancer patients, people enjoying their work and appreciating their own thankfulness that cancer is not one of their battles to fight.  That last benefit may sound a little heavy handed but isn’t it true?
Don’t we all give thanks after a clean mammogram or prostate exam?  I did!  And I’m especially thankful that you, Michelle, got your mammogram last week!  Atta-girl!  I hope that everyone in your community will also have regular mammograms and monthly self-exams.
Please ask the card artist community to help with project “Give Thanks”.  Here’s how:
Send me SIGNED hand crafted cards with envelopes (or cards w/o envelopes or even card fronts which I will put together).  Please only send quarter cards, 4.25″ x 5.5″.    Did you know that prostrate cancer is now more prevalent than breast cancer?  That means there are men who want to Give Thanks too.  I’ll thankfully use any form or style of art that is sent to me.  The artist’s email on the back of a card could facilitate a chain of giving thanks but is not necessary.
I will slip each lovingly made card/envelope into a cello envelope to protect it.
I will deliver the cards to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center in Boulder Colorado.  They will be displayed in the Infusion Room, where chemotherapy is administered, and Cancer Fighters will be able to take as many as they need to “GIVE THANKS”.  Did you know that it often takes 4 hours to receive chemo?  Did you also know that mostly it doesn’t hurt?  So, often Fighters need something to do and Giving Thanks in a card is the perfect productive distraction!    Don’t worry that one person will take all of the cards for themselves or to sell.  This is a proven system of distribution.  There are already baskets of beautiful hand made hats, scarves, neck rests, teddy bears, books and food available and everyone takes just what they need.
If this project is supported, as I suspect it will be, I’ll supply cards to the infusion rooms in Denver as well.  If someone wants to make cards and a commitment to their own community of Cancer Fighters I would celebrate that too!  Giving thanks does not have geographic borders.
SEND CARDS TO:
SONJA KNAISCH (better known as “Michelle Zindorf’s sister)
7184 GLACIER VIEW ROAD
LONGMONT, CO  80503
720-341-3829
Michelle thanks so much for embracing this idea and allowing me to communicate with your friends.
I Love You,
Sonja
Tidbit:  Michelle’s family name is Mickey.  She’s my little sister and as kids she was a pesky follow about.  So… I would go to the spooky, cricket-ridden basement and hide under the stairs and when she followed me down there I would grab her ankles through the steps and scream something scary.  What fun!    Oh, my bad.  That’s something about me too… and look who’s following who now!

Note from Michelle:
Thank you Sis and to everyone that can help out with this wonderful cause.
May your life be one without Cancer and filled with much joy.
Until my next post. . . . . . . .
Huge Hugs,
Michelle

Is it Spring Yet – Tutorial #403

I hope your weekend was fabulous.  Mine was, I spent the day yesterday with loved ones, eating, playing, etc.   To me that is the best way to spend time.  In a close second place is stamping, lol.  I’m a bit addicted to ink, stamps and card stock, Dah!

I found something else to be addicted to also, Scentsy Wickless Candle Warmers, love them!   I had an unfortunate event recently with a candle and my dining room table, which long story short, my table is ruined and now needs refinished.

But I found a wonderful safe, beautiful and totally fragrant solution to my candle delema and I became a consultant in a blink of an eye.   Here is a link to my Scentsy web site if you want to check out their great products:      https://zindorf.scentsy.us/Home  .  This link will be at the left side of my blog permanently, you can order from my Scentsy Site 24/7 and your order will be shipped direct to you from Scentsy.   No sales pressure here folks, I just love their products.

Now, a bit about today’s tutorial.  I created the background using ink spots to create a faux texture.

Let’s get started. . . . . . . . .  . . .

Supplies:

Stamps:   Stampin Up! Upsy Daisy and Dreams du Jour

Card stock:  Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Early Espresso, River Rock and Not Quite Navy

Ink:  Stampin’ Up! Early Espresso, Soft Suede, Baja Breeze, Marina Mist and River Rock

Accessories:  Stampin’ Up sponge, White Gel Pen, Gold Brads, Markers – Baja Breeze, Marina Mist & Certainly Celery, Curly Label Punch, piercing tools and mat pack.

My Stampin’ Up customers that order $50 in Stampin’ Up merchandise will receive this handmade card though March 31, 2011.

Don’t forget it is Sale-a-bration time at Stampin’ Up.  Receive a free Sale-a-bration set for each $50 in merchandise purchased.   Click HERE to place an order.   Your order will be shipped directly to your door step from Stampin’ Up!

The Stampin’ Up USA Idea book and Catalog is here.   For your copy, please send a check for $9.95 to Michelle Zindorf, P.O. Box 116, West Alexandria, OH 45381 or send it via paypal to mzindorf@aim.com USA only.     My current customers will receive a new Occasions Mini Catalog automatically from me.   Not a current customer and want a free copy of the new Occasions Mini Catalog ?  E-mail your mailing address to mzindorf@aim.com and I will get one in the mail to you.  )  Are you getting inspiration from this blog?   One way you can help support it is to order your Stampin’ Up products through me.   Click HERE to place an order.    Want to become a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator , receive a 20% discount on product and earn instant income on orders?  Consider being part of my Stampin’ Up Team and start your own business or become a Hobby Demo just for the discount.  Click HERE for more information.

I started with a 4 3/8″ Square piece of Whisper White card stock.    Using the edge of a River Rock ink spot, smeared in a square of color.

Dabbed the corner of the ink spot all over the square of color to create a bit of texture.

Using a Baja Breeze ink spot created another textured spot.

Repeated creating another spot using Marina Mist ink.

The last spot of color was created with Marina Mist ink for the square and then the texture was put in with a Not Quite Navy ink spot.

Using the edge of a Soft Suede ink spot, smeared in strips of color in between the color spots.

Distressed the edges using the same Soft Suede ink spot.

Stamped the Flowers using Soft Suede first and them stamped the same image, only lower, using Early Espresso ink.

On a scrap piece of Whisper White card stock, smeared River Rock ink.

Stamped the Butterfly image using Soft Suede ink.

Lined the butterfly up in the center of the Curly Label Punch and punched it out.

Added Certainly Celery Marker to the body of the butterfly and Baja Breeze ink to it’s wings.

Added White Gel Pen to the center of the wings and Marina Mist marker to outside edges of the wings.

Sponged Early Espresso ink to the edges of the card stock and the Curly Label Punches.

Aded White gel pen highlights to the flowers.

Added 2 Early Espress, 1 Not Quite Navy and 1 River Rock panels of card stock and 5 Gold Brads.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.5″  square.

May your day be one of pure delight!

Until my next post… . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

The Winner of the Stampin’ Up! Color Coach Is. . . . . .

I returned home yesterday from Tucson, AZ.  My what a trip it was.  I had a quick layover in Atlanta, GA, so I thought, I boarded my plane there only to sit there for an hour before they de-boarded us because of a mechanical problem with the plane.  Then I had to sit there in Atlanta for 7 hours waiting on a flight to Ohio.  Needless to say, my trip home started at 6:30 in the morning and I arrived home finally at 12:30 at night.  The great time I had in Arizona was well worth the long trip I had getting home.  Thanks to you Arizonians who made my trip memorable!

It was hard facing the ice storm that I arrived home to in Ohio.  We are currently still getting freezing rain that has coated everything in sight with a good inch of ice.    This storm is currently affecting 33 states, Yuck.  I miss the blue skies and 70 degree temps from Arizona already!

I gave myself the day off but, I couldn’t wait until tomorrow to announce the Blog Candy Winner.  So, without further ado, the winner of the Stampin’ Up Color Coach is. . . . . . . .

Christy Saldana  who wrote “What a wonderful tool. Could use this for everything, not just cards and stamping. Thanks and have a wonderful trip”.

Christy, Congratulations!   Please e-mail your shipping address to me at mzindorf@aim.com with in 30 days and I will get this awesome tool right out to you.

Thanks to everyone that played along.

Until my next post. . . . .

Huge Hugs,

Michelle

How to Stay Young :)

This is my last day in Tucson, AZ  (frown).  It is so beautiful and the people are wonderful.  I leave here first thing tomorrow morning to return to cold Ohio.

I don’t have any stamping for you today.  I received this from a friend and wanted to share it with you.

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1.  Try everything twice.
On one woman’s tombstone she said she wanted this epitaph:
“Tried everything twice. Loved it both times!”

2.  Keep only cheerful friends.
The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)

3. Keep learning:
Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever…
Never let the brain get idle.  ‘An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.’
And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s!

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud.
Laugh until you gasp for breath.
And if you have a friend who makes you laugh,
spend lots and lots of time with HIM/HER.

6.. The tears happen:
Endure, grieve, and move on.
The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves.
LIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love:
Whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever..

Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health:
If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don’t take guilt trips..
Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county,
to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
I love you, my special friend.

11. Forgive now those who made you cry. You might not get a second
chance..

And if you don’t send this to at least 4 people – who cares?
But do share this with someone.

Remember! Lost time can never be found.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of
battle.

Wine does not make you FAT ….

– it makes you LEAN ….
(Against tables, chairs,  floors, walls and ugly people.)

Have a great day!

MY BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!

Until my next post. . . . .  .

Hugs,

Michelle
