Handmade Oatmeal Packets

Hey Everyone,

This post is off the stamping topic but, I like to share food tips when I can.  🙂

When the weather starts turning colder I start to crave Oatmeal and NOT that stuff out of the pre-made packets at the grocery.  I make my own quick to whip up packets with all the goodness of simple ingredients.  Let me tell you, you can make up homemade oatmeal packets for about $3 for 20.  That’s probably less than you would pay for a little box of the pre-made ones at the store.  Better yet, you get to put into the bag what you like.

This is our favorite oatmeal packet:

1/4 cup quick-cooking oats

2 teaspoons brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1-2 tablespoons rasins

Line your sealable sandwich bags up and put your ingredients in each one.  I do this the assembly line way by putting the oatmeal in each bag then move on to the next ingredient.  I continue until I have everything in the baggies.   Roll them up and seal shut.

I store mine in a large canning jar with a tag on it.  The back side of the tag says 1/2 cup water, microwave 1-2 minutes.

Quick simple yummy goodness, mmmmm.    We like to chop up 1/2 of an apple and put in it before microwaving, wonderful hardy breakfast.

Now on to my favorite thing to do, stamping!  I’ll be back in a bit with today’s project.

Blowing in the Wind – Stampin’ Up! Card

Blowing in the Wind

Hello Stampers!

I love all of the ways I have been able to use the flourish in the Stampin’ Up! Star of Light stamp set.  Here I’ve used it to indicate wind.  I love how it is blowing that leaf around.

I used the Swirls & Curls embossing folder to blend the die cut leaf into the scene.  When you adhere a die cut to your panel and then emboss it with an embossing folder it just magically blends right in and no longer looks like a separate piece.  🙂  The embossing sure adds texture to the scene as well.  I hope you are inspired to get inky today!

Midnight in the Meadow

Hello Stampers!

I’ve been finding many uses for the images in the Dashing Deer stamp set.  It is a lovely set for holiday cards but also, a wonderful set for year around as well.  The two smaller deer are super in scenes any season.  Nice to get more bang for your buck with a versatile stamp set, right?

I created a wonderful night sky for this Doe to do her grazing under.  I also challenged myself to use Coastal Cabana and Mossy Meadow together.  I found I really love this combo, it’s nice and fresh looking.  🙂

Card Class Cookie Recipe

Hello there,

I made these Oatmeal Caisins White Chocolate Cookies for my last card class and they were a hit, not just with my class attendees but with Russ and I as well.  Let’s just say they went really fast!  So fast, I thought I would share the cookie recipe here with you.  🙂

Oatmeal Craisin White Chocolate Chip Cookies

2/3 cup margarine softened

2/3 cup brown sugar

2 large eggs

1-1/2 cups old-fashioned oats

1-1/2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1   5 ounce package Craisins

2/3 Cup White Chocolate Chips

Preheat oven to 375.  Using an electric mixer beat margarine and sugar together in a medium mixing bowl until light and fluffy.  Add eggs, mixing well.  Combine oats, flour, baking soda and salt in a separate mixing bowl.  Add to margarine mixture in several additions, mixing well after each addition.  Stir in craisins and chips.  Drop by round teaspoonfuls onto uncreased cookie sheets.  Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown  Cool on wire rack.  Makes 2 1/2 dozen.

Well, as you can see, I cannot get through October without creating a Black Cat card.  With this one, I gave the cat a mystical sky to gaze upon.  With a few simple changes you could use this design to make a great Halloween card as well.  🙂 I bet your mind is racing with ideas now, right?
