Terracotta Wall – Tutorial #416

I decided I needed an embossing powder fix this morning.  I got out my clear embossing powder and created this very feminine card using the Stampin’ Up! Hostess set Cute By the Inch and Elements of Style stamp set.

Ever since I first layed eyes on the block stamp in  the Cute by the Ink set I knew I wanted to create a little wall using it.

Grab a cup of your favorite beverage and take a break for  a few moments to follow along.

Let’s get started. . . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Cute by the Inch and Elements of Style
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze, Cajun Craze, Old Olive, Basic Black and Whisper White
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze, Basic Black and Whisper White
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze Seam Binding, Rhinestone Brads, White Gel Pen, Cajun Craze and Basic Black Markers, Brayer, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Versamark pad, Clear embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Photo Corner Punch, Post it notes
Techniques: Emboss Resist and Brayering

Stamp the block from the Stampin’ Up Set Cute by the Inch 3 times on a 3″ square piece of Whisper White  Card stock using Basic Black Craft ink and then heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Masked around the blocks using 3 post it notes.

Smeared ink on the unmasked area using the edge of a Cajun Craze ink pad.

Smeared the edge of a Versamark pad over the unmasked area and heat embossed the unmasked area using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  Note:  Leave post it notes on during the heat embossing stage.

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at an angle on the top right hand corner.

Brayered Cajun Craze ink at the top right hand corner, not covering the Baja Breeze ink entirely.

Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig tool for placement, stamped flourish from the Stampin’ Up set Elements of Style using Old Olive ink.

Added a Basic Black marker outline under some of the flourish to create a shadow.  Also colored in the dots in the design using the same Basic Black marker.

Colored the flowers in using a Cajun Craze marker.

Added a few highlights to the flourish.

Added a Baja Breeze panel under the main image panel and a 5.25″ square panel under the Baja Breeze panel.  Stamped the flourish four times using Craft Whisper White ink and then dried the ink using a heat gun.

Added a 5.5″ square Baja Breeze panel, Baja Breeze Seam Binding, Rhinestone brads and small Basic Black photo corners.

Here is the finished project measuring 5.5″ square.

May you experience nothing but peace and harmony today.

Until my next post. . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Happy Little Mushrooms – Tutorial #415

Yuck, allergy season.  Like everyone else I am struggling a bit with allergies.  Spring is officially here, lol.     Spent the day yesterday at the doc’s office, getting my presciptions filled and resting.   Today I am feeling a bit more human and I wanted to reflect that feeling by making this cheerful card using the Stampin’ Up! set Funky Four with my much loved Stampin’ Up set Baroque Motifs.   CLICK HERE TO ENTER FOR A CHANCE TO WIN THE FUNKY FOUR STAMP SET.

Let’s get started on today’s tutorial. . . .  . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Funky Four and Baroque Motifs
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Tangerine Tango and Not Quite Navy
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Not Quite Navy, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Tangerine Tango and Always Artichoke
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponges, Brayer, Clear embossing powder, heat gun, White Gel Pen, Old Olive Seam Binding, Markers – Always Artichoke, So Saffron & More Mustard, Versamark pad and marker, post it note, So Saffron brads, color coach

The Stampin’ Up USA Idea book and Catalog is here.   For your copy, please send a check for $9.95 to Michelle Zindorf, P.O. Box 116, West Alexandria, OH 45381 or send it via paypal to mzindorf@aim.com USA only.     My current customers will receive a new Occasions Mini Catalog automatically from me.   Not a current customer and want a free copy of the new Occasions Mini Catalog ?  E-mail your mailing address to mzindorf@aim.com and I will get one in the mail to you.  )  Are you getting inspiration from this blog?   One way you can help support it is to order your Stampin’ Up products through me.   Click HERE to place an order.    Want to become a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator , receive a 20% discount on product and earn instant income on orders?  Consider being part of my Stampin’ Up Team and start your own business or become a Hobby Demo just for the discount.  Click HERE for more information.

To get started today, I pulled out my Stampin’ Up! Color Coach  to be inspired by a color combo.   I found my starting color combo right on the Tangerine Tango card.   This color combo says “happy” to me and that is what I was looking for.

Stamped the mushrooms on a 3.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then with Tangerine Tango ink before stamping it.  Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the mushrooms in with a So Saffron Marker.  Added More Mustard marker to the dark areas of the mushrooms and then colored over the areas again with the So Saffron marker to blend.

Colored over the mushroom, staying within the embossed image, using a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Brayered Tangerine Tango ink at the top right corner of the card stock.

Ripped a fine edge off of a post it note and used it as a mask for the ground area of my scene.

Brayered Tempting Turquoise ink at the bottom left corner of the sky area.

Removed the mask and wiped the ink off of my embossed images using a paper towel.

Sponged Old Olive ink in the ground area.

Stamped the Baroque Motifs Flourish using Always Artichoke ink and then wiped the ink off of my embossed images using a paper towel.

Stamped the Baroque Motifs flower twice using Tangerine Tango ink.

Sponged Not Quite navy ink at the bottom left corner of the card stock.

Added a little bit of a shadow at the base of the mushrooms using an Always Artichoke marker.

Added a few highlights to the flower with a white gel pen.

Cut a 4.75″ panel from Not Quite Navy card stock and dry embossed it using the Flourish Texture Plate and Big Shot Machine.

Brayered over the embossed card stock with Tempting Turquoise ink to bring out the embossing a bit.

Added Whisper White and Tangerine Tango card stock panels, So Saffron Brads and Old Olive Seam Binding.

Here is my completed card measuring 5.25″ square.

A Little food for thought before I close today.

Imperfection
By Elizabeth Carlson

I am falling in love
with my imperfections
The way I never get the sink really clean,
forget to check my oil,
lose my car in parking lots,
miss appointments I have written down,
am just a little late.

I am learning to love the small bumps on my face
the big bump of my nose,
my hairless scalp,
chipped nail polish,
toes that overlap.
Learning to love
the open-ended mystery
of not knowing why

I am learning to fail
to make lists,
use my time wisely,
read the books I should.

Instead I practice inconsistency,
irrationality, forgetfulness.

Probably I should
hang my clothes neatly in the closet
all the shirts together, then the pants,
send Christmas cards, or better yet
a letter telling of
my perfect family.

But I’d rather waste time
listening to the rain,
or lying underneath my cat
learning to purr.

I used to fill every moment
with something I could
cross off later.

Perfect was
the laundry done and folded
all my papers graded
the whole truth and nothing

but

Now the empty mind is what I seek
the formless shape
the strange off center
sometimes fictional me.

May you have good health today and always.

Until my next post. . .  . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

On with the tutorial. . . .

Stamped the tree on a 3.75″ x 6.25″ piece of Whisper White card stock by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then loaded it with So Saffron ink before stamping it.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Ripped the very edge off of a post it note and then masked the bottom of card stock.

Brayered Bashful Bliss ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Pacific Point ink at the bottom of the un-masked area.

Make sure you gently wipe the ink from your embossed image using a paper towel every time you get ink on it.

Sponged a hill in using Chocolate Chip ink.

Sponged a Basic Black hill in, over lapping the Chocolate Chip hill.

Removed the post it note mask.  Using the edge of the So Saffron ink pad, smeared ink across the ground area in the scene.

Using the corner of an More Mustard ink pad, smeared ink across the ground area.

Added a bit of Sahara Sand ink.

Stamped the tree using Basic Black ink to create a shadow for the tree.

Added Basic Black marker to the sides of the branches, next to the embossed image.   The marker will not stick to the embossed image.

Wiped the ink from the embossed image.  Found the Basic Black ink stained the middle of the tree trunk when I put in the hill, so I purposely stained the bottom of the tree trunk by smearing ink on the embossed tree using the corner of the ink pad.  Let the ink sit for a moment and then wiped it off.     Be careful with this step so you don’t get any on your background.

Added Soft Suede ink using the corner of the ink pad.

Added White gel pen to the left side of the tree.

Added a 3 7/8″ x 6 3/8″ Bashful Blue Panel, 5″ x 6.5″ Early Espresso Panel and 6 small Bashful Blue Photo Corner Punches.

Added 6 Gold Brads.  Here is the finished project measuring 5′ x 6.5″.

Have a super weekend!

Until my next post. . . .  . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Emboss Resist Bunny Tutorial #410 and a Blog Candy Winner

Gotta create a Bunny card in the Spring, right?    Especially after hanging out at the Tracker Supply Company looking at the baby bunnies, chicks and ducks.  You know they are in the stores right now.   It was so funny when my son, Jesse (age 30) and I popped into the store last week.  Here we are out in farm country looking like city folk, taking pics of the baby bunnies, chicks and ducks using our cell phones, lol.  I’m sure the farmers were thinking, what the heck, as they scratched their heads.

Instead of buying a cute, cute, cute baby bunny to take care of I created this card instead.  🙂   Stay a while and check out this emboss resist card.

But first, I have a blog candy winner to announce. .  . . . . . . . . . And the winner is. . . .. . . . . . .. .

Nina Babcock who wrote “Each week I so look forward to your new creations. I place my cursor on your e-mail and wait with expectancy to see what you have to share with us. I, along with many others, admire your talent and consistancy just so we can have a part of what you do. Thank you.

Nina Babcock, Congratulations!  Please e-mail your address to mzindorf@aim.com within 30 days and I will get this set right out to you.

Thanks to all who played along!

Now let’s start the tutorial. . . . .

Assembled the card adding Baja Breeze Seam Binding and Antique Brads.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ Square.

Before I close, I want to share something that I received via e-mail.   I found it very inspiring.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER – by Erma Bombeck
(written after she found out she was dying of cancer).

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren’t there for the day.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the ‘good’ living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn’t show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, ‘Later. Now go get washed up for dinner.’ There would have been more ‘I love you’ More ‘I’m sorry’s.’

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute, look at it, and really see it . . live it and never give it back.
STOP SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF!!!

Don’t worry about who doesn’t like you, who has more, or who’s doing what.  Instead, let’s cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.

May you feel Spring in the air today.

Until my next post. . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink at an angle, starting at the bottom left corner.

Brayered Night of Navy ink at the same angle, not covering all of the Not Quite Navy ink.

Added Concord Crush ink at the same angle not covering the Night of Navy ink entirely.

Removed the mask and sponge More Mustard ink in the moon.

Sponged some Cajun Craze ink in the moon area leaving the More Mustard ink showing in the middle.

Stamped the tree from the Stampin’ Up Seasons of Friendship tree stamp sideways using Basic Black ink.

Stamped the leaves using Old Olive ink.

Stamped more leaves using Basic Black ink.

Added a shadow on the Old Olive leaves using an Old Olive Marker.

Punched the Owl out of Whisper White and Basic Black card stock.

Sponged More Mustard ink on the edges of the large eye circles and then edged then using a More Mustard marker.

Sponged Sahara Sand ink on the belly and then on just the left side of the white owl.

Added a bit of shadow on the owl and belly using a Sahara Sand marker, only on the left side.

Bird’s Eye View Bookmark – Tutorial #406

Drive home 😦

Wow, my drive home yesterday from Wichita, Kansas was a bit different than my lovely drive there, lol.

Drive there  🙂

It took quite a bit longer also.  So today I am completely exhausted.  My body hurts also from griping the steering wheel so tight in the icy conditions I found myself driving in.  Thank goodness there was only 2 states that looked like this and the others where fine.   Anyhow, I am so happy to be home safe and sound, but miss my friends in Wichita already.

Before I get to the tutorial today, I have a blog candy winner to announce.

  The winner of the Stampin’ Up! Extreme Stamp package is. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Kim Burmeister who wrote “Your card is awesome! I would love to be entered into the blog candy drawing. Thanks so much. These would be great for brayer cards.”

Kim Burmeister, Congratulations!   Please e-mail your address to me at mzindorf@aim.com within 30 days and I will get this set right out to you.

Thanks to everyone who played along!  Maybe you will be the winner next week.

About the tutorial

Today’s tutorial project was created for a Stampin’ Up Team Event Swap that I will be attending in New Jersey this weekend.    I’m looking so forward to attending an event that I am not putting on, know what I mean, lol.  🙂  Also, I will be meeting new friends and hanging out with current friends.  Besides the creative release that stamping gives you that’s what stamping is all about, friendship, don’t you think?

So let’s dive right into this tutorial so I can get to making 60 of these beauties.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Aviary, Lovely as a Tree
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black and Old Olive
Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Always Artichoke, Old Olive, Baja Breeze
Accessories: Stampin’ Up Sponge, Old Olive Ribbon, 1 1/4″ circle punch, Ruler, Brayer, Crop-o-dile, Piercing Tools, Basic Black marker

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at the top of a 3″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Brayered Old Olive ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Inked up the trees only on this Lovely As A Tree stamp with Basic Black ink, omitting the grassy areas of the image.  Stamped the image.

Extended the tree trunks a bit using a Basic Black marker.

Sponged in a shadow for each tree.

Stamped 2 birds from the Stampin’ Up Aviary set using Basic Black ink.

Drew in a wire using a Basic Black marker and a ruler.

Punched a 1 1/4″ circle from Basic Black card stock and folded it in half.

Adhered my main image panel to a 3 1/8″ x 5 1/8″ piece of Basic Black card stock.   Wrapped the circle around the top of the card stock and adhered it on both sides.

Pierced holes along the bottom of the card stock using Stampin’ Up piercing tools.

Added a 3 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ piece of Old Olive card stock.  Punched a hole in the top of the bookmark and added an Old Olive ribbon.

Mountain Creek – Tutorial #404

Good Morning All,

Just for a change of pace I thought I would use a totally different color combo than my normal blues and greens.  I do love using shades of browns to get an old time feel.   Add a bit of peach and pink and it starts looking like an antique photo that has been tinted.

Let’s get started. . . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Lovely As a Tree
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Basic Black and Soft Suede
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Early Espresso, Soft Suede, Sahara Sand and Basic Black
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponges, Brayer, White Gel Pen,Markers – Blush Blossom, Pink Pirouette, Soft Suede, Early Espesso, Gold Brads, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Gun, 1″ Circle and Word Window Punches, Post it Notes, Piercing Tools

My Stampin’ Up customers that order $50 in Stampin’ Up merchandise will receive this handmade card though March 31, 2011.

Don’t forget it is Sale-a-bration time at Stampin’ Up.  Receive a free Sale-a-bration set for each $50 in merchandise purchased.   Click HERE to place an order.   Your order will be shipped directly to your door step from Stampin’ Up!

Started with a 4″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock, stamped the trees, on each side of the card stock, without inking the grassy area of the stamp using Basic Black Craft ink (Pigment).  Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder.

Colored the tree tops using a Blush Blossom marker.

Tapped in a bit of Pink Pirouette marker in the middle of the trees.

colored over the marker using a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  This potects the color in the trees and will resist ink put on for our background.

Punched a 1″ circle from a scrap piece of card stock.

Put the hole in the card stock where I want my moon and colored the Moon in with Blush Blossom marker.  Added some Pink Pirouette marker to the left side of the moon.  Colored the moon in with Versamark marker and heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Now that our trees and moon are protected with embossing we can brayer over them and they will resist the ink.

Brayered Sahara Sand ink at the top and the bottom of the card stock.

Ripped a post it note in a mountain shape and put it on my card stock to mask the sky.

Sponged Soft Suede ink in the mountain shape.

Added Early Espresso ink to the top of the mountain.

Unmasked the sky.  Ripped a creek shaped piece of post it note and masked the creek area.

Ripped another post it note and masked the sky and mountain.

Sponged Soft Suede in the unmasked area.

Added Early Espresso ink in the top 1/2 of the unmasked area.

Sponged a bit of Basic Black ink at the very top of the unmasked area.

Removed the post it notes and gently wiped my embossed images off using a paper towel.

Put a line of Early Espresso marker at the top of creek and extended the tree trunks.

Lightly Sponged Early Espresso ink at the bottom half of the creek.

Brayered Early Espresso ink at the top of the card stock.  Wiped my embossed images off again.

Added White Gel pen dots to the trees to add a bit of sparkle.

Added a few rock shapes and water lines in the creek using a Soft Suede marker.

Punched 2 Basic Black Word Window punches and held them together and one end off of them.

Added 2 Basic Black panels, 1 Soft Suede panel, word window punches and gold brads.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May your day be filled with all that pleases you.

Until my next post. . . .  . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Stamped the soccer ball using Craft (pigment) Basic Black ink on a 3.5″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored over the image using a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the image again.  This protects the white in the soccer ball from ink I will put on in later steps.

Brayered Old Olive ink from the bottom of the card stock to the top.

Lightly buffed off the image with a paper towel.  You will want to do this anytime you get ink on your embossed image.

Brayered Always Artichoke ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Using a Sharpie White Paint Marker and a ruler, put in the field lines.

Masked the soccer ball and field with a post it note and sponged basic Black ink at the post it note edge to create a shadow under the soccer ball.

Brayered Tempting Turquoise ink at the top of the card stock.

Punched 3 Basic Black card stock stars.

Cut a 4.75″ x 6.25″ piece of Stampin’ Up News Print Designer paper and sponged Always Artichoke ink around the edges of it.

Crumpled the paper up and then flattened it out and sponged a bit of Always Artichoke ink over the crinkles to enhance them.

Added 2 Always Artichoke panels, 1 Basic Black panel and 1 Tempting Turquoise panel.  Also added Tempting Turquoise circles to the stars and Old Olive brads.

Stamped the Sentiment in the right corner twice using Basic Black ink.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ x 6.75″.

A little funny before I close. This was found on my friend and downlines Face page this morning, hysterical!

OMG! I figured out why Im fat! The shampoo I use in the shower that runs down my body says “For extra volume and body” Im goin to start using “Dawn” dish soap.It says “Dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove” Re post if u have the same issue..its too funny to not share!

May your day be a total winner.

Until my next post. . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Inspiration comes to me from many places.  I never thought it would be from the  pet store though.  But here it is, I was inspired by a fish tank full of Neon Fish.  🙂

Now on with tutorial #400!

Please bare with me through the first few pictures, lol.  I apparently had hit a setting I should not have on my camera.  🙂  Yep, I’m only human.

Loaded the fish stamp from the Stampin’ Up set C is for Cat with Versamark, Tempting Turquoise ink and then used the brush end of a Rose Red Marker on the bottom half of the fish before stamping it.   Yes that is right, load Versamark, ink and marker all before stamping it.  🙂

Heat emboss the images using Clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Loaded the Plant from the Stampin’ Up set “Pocket Silhouettes” with Versamark and Old Olive ink before stamping it.  Reloaded for the second stamping.

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.   Ahh, now my pictures are looking better, lol.

Ripped a post it note and used it as a mask for the sand.

Brayered Pacific Point ink at the top of the card stock.

Be sure to lightly buff off your embossed images with a paper towel after putting ink over them.  Be careful not to scrub them.

Brayered Garden Green ink at the top of the card stock, not covering the Pacific Point ink entirely.

Removed the sand mask and brayered River Rock ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Ripped a post it note in a hill shape and used it as a mask.

Sponged Crumb Cake ink at the post it note edge.

Moved the post it note and put in a second little hill.

Stamped the plant using Always Artichoke ink along the bottom of the card stock.

Added White Gel Pen highlights to the tops of the plants and fish.

Added Basic Black marker underneath the leaves and a few of the fish, being careful not to get the marker on the embossed images.

Cut 2 pieces of designer paper 3.5″ x 5.75″.

Put them on a Stampin’ Up glass cutting mat and used my Hobby Blade to cut the two pieces of paper at one time.  This keeps the lay edges the same shape so you can stagger them.

Added an Always Artichoke panel and a River Rock panel.  Stamped the sentiment from the Stampin’ Up set Apple Blossoms using Basic Black ink.

Added a 5″ x 6.5″ Rose Red card stock panel and Gold Brads.   Here is my finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I am off to Houston, TX tomorrow to have a grand time teaching my brayering techinques.  You all have a super weekend!

Until my next post. . .  . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle
