Two Bucks – Tutorial #364

I have a winter scene for you today.  Just in case you want to start those Christmas cards.   What could be better than a couple of deer in the snow, right?

Today’s tutorial shows how to create hills of snow and then a reverse image.

I’m a bit slow at posting right now, the blog administrators upgraded my blog and now I have to learn how to post again.  It is all so very different behind the scenes, Yikes!   I do want to thank the people at Split Coast Stampers.  They do such a terrific job keeping my blog up and running when I have problems, they Rock!

Now on with tutorial #364.

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Not Quite Navy, Night of Navy and Baja Breeze

Ripped a couple of post it notes and masked the bottom of  a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock (Snow area).

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink in the sky area.  Also brayered Night of Navy at the top of the card stock.

Stamped the Pine trees from the Stampin’ Up set Plant Hope using Basic Black ink.

Repositioned the post it note mask to show some of the snow area above it.  Sponged Baja Breeze ink at the post it note edge.

Removed the post it note mask and sponged Baja Breeze ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Stamped the Deer from the Stampin’ Up set Winter post on the card stock using Basic Black ink.  Stamped the deer again on a Stamp-a-ma-jig plastic using Basic Black ink and flipped it over onto the card stock and rubbed the back of the plastic to transfer the image.

The reverse image will come out faint.

Colored in the reverse image using a Basic Black marker.

Added a star in the sky by making a cross and then an “x” over it using a ruler and a White gel pen.

Added random dots of White Gel pen in the sky area.

Added a panel of Sahara Sand so it showed only at the bottom and left side of the main image panel.

Added Whisper White, Baja Breeze and Basic Black panels.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I hope your day is much warmer than this scene.

Until my next post. . . . .  . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Pink & Purple Floral – Tutorial #186 and a Blog Candy Winner

dsc08092.JPG

wheaton-il-beginner-small.jpg     wheaton-il-advanced-small.jpg

I am back and I had a fantastic time teaching my brayer workshops in Wheaton, Illinois.  It was such a pleasure meeting so many dynamite ladies, most of which are stamping fanatics like myself.  There are a lot of us out there, lol.  Thank you ladies for giving me such a warm welcome.

dsc08066.JPG    Before I left last Thursday, I announced that I would be giving this set of Basic Grey Stamps away as blog candy.  I have a winner!   The random number generator selected. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Congrats to CHERYL LOSIECZKA who wrote:  THAT IS A FANTASTIC CARD~! I’m a first time visitor, but I’ll be back! Put me in the drawing, please and thanks!

Cheryl please e-mail your address to mzindorf@aim.com and I will put these in the mail to you.

Thank you to all 396 of you that played along!

Now a bit about today’s tutorial,  I brayered the background on this at an angle to create a bit more interest in the scene.  I also added a shadow at the flower pot base to create some depth.  Grab a cup of your favorite beverage and hang out a while.

Let’s get started.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Bloomin’ Beautiful & Frames with a Flourish
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Lovely Lilac & Not Quite Navy
Ink: Stampin’ Up Kiwi Kiss, Not Quite Navy, Night of Navy & Bordering Blue, Palette Noir Black
Accessories: Versamark Pad & Marker, Clear embossing powder & a heat gun, Brayer, Sponge, Piercing Tool, Prismacolor Markers, White Gel Pen, Stampin’ Up Ticket Corner Punch

Please don’t forget you can order your Stampin’ Up products from me 24-7 from this link:  http://michellezindorf.stampinup.net or e-mail me at mzindorf@aim.com if you are within the United States.  Also, please consider being part of my Stampin’ Up Team.  We have valuable monthly meetings in Miamisburg, Ohio.

dsc08097.JPG On a 4.5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock I stamped the sentiment by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then with Kiwi Kiss Dye based ink before stamping it.  Then heat embossed it using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.dsc08067.JPGdsc08068.JPGStamped the pot of flowers with Palette Hybrid Noir Black ink.  After stamping it, I heated the ink a bit with my heat gun to set it.  This helps to keep it from smearing.dsc08069.JPG

I colored the shaded areas of the pot with a Prismacolor Cloud Blue marker.

dsc08070.JPG

Added a bit of Cold Stone marker to the the pot, just below the leaves.

dsc08071.JPG

Colored the flowers with Deco Pink marker.

dsc08073.JPG

Added Violet Mist marker to the center of the flowers.

dsc08074.JPG

Colored the leaves with Lime Green marker.

dsc08075.JPG

Added Light Olive Green to the dark areas of the leaves.

dsc08076.JPG

Put a dot of Parma Violet marker in the center of the flowers.

dsc08077.JPG

Colored over the flowers and pot with a Versamark marker and then heat embossed it using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc08078.JPG

dsc08079.JPG

Now that I have my images all heat embossed they will resist the ink I put on for the background.

Brayered Bordering Blue ink at an angle on the bottom of the card stock.

dsc08080.JPG

Flipped the panel upside down and brayered Bordering Blue ink at the top of the card stock at an angle.

dsc08081.JPG

I felt I need  a break in the background so I stamped the flourish twice with Bordering Blue ink.

dsc08082.JPG

Wiped the ink off of my embossed images with a cotton towel.

dsc08083.JPG

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink around the edge of the card stock and to the right and under the flower pot to create a shadow.

dsc08086.JPG

Sponged Night of Navy at the very edges of the card stock and a little right under the pot to get a deeper shadow.

dsc08087.JPG

Used the Stampin’ Up Ticket Corner punch on my main image panel and a 4 5/8″ square Whisper White Panel.

dsc08088.JPG

Adhered a 5 3/8″ Square Lovely Lilac Panel to a 5.5″ Square Not Quite Navy Panel and then Sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the corners of the Lovely Lilac panel.

dsc08089.JPG

Adhered all of my panels together and added a dot of White Gel pen right in the center of the flowers to make them pop a bit more.

dsc08090.JPG

Used my Piercing tool to start my brads in the corners.

dsc08091.JPG

Here is the finished card measuring 5.5″ Square.

dsc08092.JPG

May your day be filled with wonderful images!

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . .

Huge Hugs,

Michelle

Inspiration Imagine – Tutorial #102 and Blog Candy Winner

Happy Saturday!!!!!

dsc05504.JPG  One thing before I get going on today’s tutorial, we have a blog candy winner out of 137 comments, the random number generator selected  #26, LittleSeaOtter~Kecia , Who wrote “Oh, how I love this card. Makes me happy just looking at it.  Favorite thing about fall? That’s a no brainer…..Ohio State Football!!!”  Kecia, please e-mail your address to me at mzindorf@aim.com

 dsc05529.JPG

Alrighty then, about today’s piece.  Split Coast Stampers.com has a great challenge on Saturday mornings. It is the inspiration challenge and I love it.  I use inspiration pieces all the time to come up with my creations.  For example today’s inspiration piece is this swimwear.  I took the color palette and swirl from the inspiration piece.  Those are the elements from the swimwear that most inspire me.  I didn’t feel the need to work in any paisley, or try to duplicate the pattern exactly  🙂

athleta2.jpg

Let’s get started.

Supplies:

Stamps:Innovative Stamp Creations “Flair of Summer”, Cape Arago “Bird”, Inque Boutique “A Word or Two”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Kiwi Kiss, Purely Pomegranate
Ink: Stampin’ Up Kiwi Kiss, Purely Pomegranate, Baja Breeze, Basic Black & Chocolate Chip
Accessories:Versamark Pad, Clear embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Brayer, Ticket Corner Punch, White Gel Pen

dsc05532.JPG

Stamped half of the plant image on a piece of Whisper White card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then Kiwi Kiss ink before stamping.   Note I only put the Versamark and the ink on the part of the image I wanted to stamp.   I then heat embossed the image using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  Heat embossing the image makes the image resist any ink put on the panel (emboss resist technique).

dsc05509.JPG

dsc05510.JPG

Brayered Baja Breeze about 2/3rds the way down the card stock from the top and then 1/4 of the way from the bottom up leaving a very light space in between the two brayerings.

dsc05511.JPG

dsc05512.JPG

Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement, stamped bird with Basic Black ink.

dsc05514.JPG

dsc05515.JPG

Colored the bird in with a White Gel Pen.  In the large open areas of the bird I tried to imagine which direction the feathers would go and that is the direction I colored in.

dsc05517.JPG

Stamp part of the plant image again by loading just part of the stamp with Chocolate Chip ink.

dsc05518.JPG

Brayered lightly Purely Pomegranate ink at the top and bottom of the card stock.

dsc05519.JPG

Oops, I got a smudge of ink at the bottom right corner of my panel.  Fixed it by stamping over it with the plant image again with Chocolate Chip ink.

dsc05520.JPG

This is my color palette that I used with my finished panel.

dsc05522.JPG

Stamped my sentiment with Baja Breeze ink.

dsc05523.JPG

Assembled card front and then decided to add the flourish with Baja Breeze ink.  Used my Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement.

dsc05524.JPG

dsc05526.JPG

Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ x 5.25″.

dsc05529.JPG

Hey, give an inspiration piece a try.  Remember your piece only need to take small elements from the inspiration piece.  No need to try to recreate it. 🙂

May your day be filled with images that inspire you!

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Framed Scene – Tutorial and More Blog Candy

dsc05257.JPG

I’m feeling generous today.  It is my last day at work before my vacation starts.  YIPEEEE!  So today I have a tutorial for you and the finished piece is being given away as blog candy.

So to enter for a chance to win this framed piece, please leave me a comment on this post telling me to enter you.  If you are getting this blog update by e-mail you will need to click this link to leave a comment on this blog post:   http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2008/07/25/framed-scene-tutorial-and-more-blog-candy/

I will use a random number generator to pick the winner on the morning of Tuesday, August 5th, which by the way is the next time I will be posting a stamping project.  I will be posting the winner of yesterdays blog candy tomorrow morning before I leave. 🙂

A little about the frame.  I don’t buy new frames for anything.  I like to poke around at thrift stores, flea markets and garage/barn sales for them.  When looking at framed pictures for sale, I’m really looking at the frame.  What is inside of the frame doesn’t matter, because I’m going to throw it away.   The little frame I used today is solid wood and has a nice easel back to it and I paid 25 cents for it.  I also buy really large wood framed pictures, generally not paying more than $2 for them and use them for my pastel paintings.  New they run from $50 to $75.  I found I can pick the frame before I do a painting and then paint it using the dimension I need so it will fit in the frame (cart before the horse I guess, lol).  I also cut my own mats, big savings also.

Ok, enough about that, on with the tutorial.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Spring Solitude & Lovely as a Tree
Paper: Stampin Up Whisper White & Basic Black
Ink: Stampin’ Up Blue Bayou, Perfect Plum, Close to Cocoa, More Mustard, Basic Black, Soft Sky & Pale Plum
Accessories: Brayer, Post it Notes, Sponges, White Gel Pen, Fine point Black marker, Frame

dsc05262.JPG

Brayered Soft Sky ink on the top 1/2 of a 6″ x 3″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc05242.JPG

Tore Post it Notes (through the sticky part) to use as a mask for the sky while I put in the horizon line.

dsc05243.JPG

Sponged on More Mustard ink being darkest at the post it note edge.

dsc05244.JPG

Removed mask and stamped bird with Basic Black ink.

dsc05245.JPG

Tore a new piece of post it note to use to mask the sky and create a mountain in the distance.  Sponged Pale Plum ink in the open area.  Opps!  Missed the photo of this.

dsc05246.JPG

Used torn post it notes again for a mask to create another mountain in the distance and sponged on Perfect Plum ink so it is a little darker than the first mountain.

dsc05247.JPG

Removed masks and used a White Gel pen to define the birds wing and eye.

dsc05249.JPG

Used a fine point marker to put dots on the ground at the birds feet to simulate bird feed.

dsc05250.JPG

Sponged a little Blue Bayou ink at the top of the sky to give it some drama.

dsc05251.JPG

Stamped two pine trees at the left of the piece with Basic Black ink.

dsc05252.JPG

Sponged More Mustard ink on to create a shadow for the trees and for the bird.

dsc05253.JPG

Sponged on a little Close to Cocoa ink in the middle of the tree shadows to give a little more depth.

dsc05254.JPG

Added a Black card stock panel and here it is finished.

dsc05257.JPG

Everyone be safe and have a super pleasant and sunny day!

Until my next post. . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

dsc05239.JPG

Stamped grapes with Palette Noir Black ink on a 3″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White card stock.  Note:  I use Palette ink because it tends not to smear when using solvent based markers.

dsc05216.JPG

Colored the grapes with a Prismacolor Violet Mist Marker.

dsc05217.JPG

Colored the shadow parts of the graps with a Parma Violet marker.

dsc05218.JPG

dsc05222.JPG

Added some French Grey 30% marker to the stem.

dsc05223.JPG

Colored over the entire image with a Versamark Marker and then heat embossed the image with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05224.JPG

Added highlights to the grapes and leaf with a white gel pen.  (Love white gel pens!)  Now that makes those grapes pop!

dsc05230.JPG

Sponge a bit of Really Rust ink on the left side of my two panels.  Also dragged the card stock across the Really Rust ink pad at the left edge.

dsc05231.JPG

Stamped the flourish with Mellow Moss ink on the left side of the panels.

dsc05232.JPG

Assembled card and added two copper brads.  Here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

 dsc05236.JPG

In The Nest Tutorial & BLOG CANDY!

dsc05167.JPG

As I said before, I love feeding and watching the birds.  I’m a city girl (spent my first 43 years in the city) and then I moved to a rural town and I’m pretty much surrounded by farm land.   Well being a city girl, I got a lesson at the feed store, yep my town has a feed store, lol.  I went in and asked for bird seed.  I was promptly told you can’t grow birds with seed, what I was looking for was bird feed.  Now how did I make it all these years not knowing the correct term for bird feed. 🙂  Lesson learned!

NOTE:  TIMES UP FOR THE BLOG CANDY! THANKS TO ALL WHO ENTERED.

Anyway, I have blog candy for you all today!  A set of (16) sixteen, Series 7, Studio G, Clear Stamps.  All you have to do to enter to win these stamps is leave a comment on this post.  If you are getting this by e-mail, please click this link to be able to leave a comment on the post:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2008/07/16/in-the-nest-tutorial-blog-candy/

dsc05173.JPG

Below is a picture of the new Stampin’ Up in colors I just received in the mail.  These colors won’t be available until the new Catty comes out.  I just couldn’t resist playing with them, so I used a couple of them in today’s tutorial.  Please forgive me, I just had to, lol.

dsc05118.JPG

I still had this set by papertreyink.com “Pond Life” on my desk from Friday so I decided to give it another go.

Here is the tutorial.  🙂

Supplies:

dsc05119.JPG

Stamped Lily with Salmon ink on Whisper White Card stock.  Turned stamp upside down and stamped lily again with Aqua ink.

dsc05087.JPG

Darkened bottom of Salmon lily with a Blush Blossom marker.

dsc05088.JPG

Darkened bottom of reflection lily with a Going Gray and Blush Blossom marker.

dsc05089.JPG

Put Going Gray marker under Salmon Lily to create a shadow.

dsc05090.JPG

Put a fine line of Black marker under the Salmon lily to define shadow.

dsc05091.JPG

Colored over both the lily images with a Versamark marker and heat embossed using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05092.JPG

dsc05093.JPG

Using a Mirror Image Stamp (see frequently asked questions in regards to Mirror image stamp) stamp a loose mirror image of the duck with basic black ink.

Note:  to use mirror image stamp, stamp image on mirror image stamp and the stamp mirror image stamp on card stock.

dsc05094.JPG

Defined mirror image of duck a little with a going gray marker.

dsc05095.JPG

Stamp duck image above mirror image with Basic Black ink.

dsc05100.JPG

dsc05102.JPG

Pond Life MZ Style – Tutorial

dsc05084.JPG

I use stamps from all different companies these days.  My piece today uses Papertreyink.com stamps “Pond Life”.

I use to be stickily a Stampin’ Up girl, but too many fabulous companies have popped up that need my money, lol.  Really, I just can’t resist a great stamp set when I see it.  This is one set I just had to have.  So we are going on a little trip to the pond today with this tutorial.  Grab a cup of your favorite coffee, tea or soda and follow along.

Let’s get started.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Paper Trey Ink “Pond Life” , Stampin’ Up Canvas BG
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Blush Blossom and Cool Caribbean
Ink: Stampin’ Up More Mustard, Adirondack Terra Cotta, Peach Bellini, Salmon, Aqua, Lettuce, Ginger, Stream
Accessories: Stampin’ Up Markers Blush Blossom, Going Gray, Barely Banana, More Mustard, Faber Castell Black fine tip marker, White Gel pen, Sponges, Versamark pad and marker, Clear embossing powder, heat gun, Copper Brads

dsc05086.JPG

Stamped Water lily with Salmon ink on a 3.75″ x 3.75″ piece of Whisper White Card stock.

dsc05052.JPG

Add some Blush Blossom marker to the bottom of the images.

dsc05054.JPG

Added Barely Banana marker to the center tip of the images.

dsc05055.JPG

Colored over the images with a Versamark Marker.

dsc05056.JPG

Heat embossed the images with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05057.JPG

This set has these great stems in them.  Since these stamps are unmounted you can take this stem and bend it when you stick it on the mount.  Nice to make different shaped stems and grasses.  It looks funny to have straight grasses. 🙂

Stamped stems by first loading stamp with Versamark and then More Mustard ink before stamping.

dsc05058.JPG

Heat embossed stems with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05059.JPG

Stamped lily pads, by first loading the stamp with Versamark, then Lettuce ink and then added some More Mustard marker to the edges of the stamp before stamping.

dsc05060.JPG

Heat embossed with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05066.JPG

Added some more stems with Lettuce ink.

dsc05067.JPG

Stamp the Cat tail head stamp with Ginger ink.

dsc05068.JPG

Added a shadow under some of the lily pads and lilies with a Going Grey marker.

dsc05069.JPG

Added a fine line of black marker under the lilies to really give them dimension.

dsc05070.JPG

Added Ginger ink to the bottom left corner of the card stock.

dsc05071.JPG

Stamp some more lily pads with Lettuce ink.

dsc05072.JPG

Toile Blossoms Scene – Tutorial

dsc05046.JPG

Today’s piece is dedicated to all the Stampin’ Up stamp hoarders.  Now you know who you are, a few of you have even asked me to use some of my old, but loved stamps in projects.  I was a hobby demo so I never felt the need to get rid of my old stamps when new ones came out.  So I have around 300 Stampin’ Up sets, that is what is left after weeding out sets that weren’t my style.  We won’t talk about my unmounted stamp collections in this same post. You all will think I’m a stamp junkie or something, lol.

Let me hear about your stamp collections/addiction in the comments section of this post.  If you are getting this by e-mail update, click this link to leave me your comment:

I know I’m not the only one that will chose new stamps over new shoes, let me hear from you.  🙂

Anyway, I have used Stampin’ Up sets “Toile Blossoms” &  “Lovely as a Tree” in today’s piece.

Let’s get started on the tutorial.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ UP Toile Blossoms & Lovely as a Tree
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Not Quite Navy and Soft Sky
Ink: Stampin’ Up Soft Sky, More Mustard, Not Quite Navy, Basic Black & Old Olive, Palette Noir Black
Accessories: Piercing Tools, Prismacolor Markers, Going Gray marker, White Gel Pen, Black marker, Ticket Corner Punch, Sponges, Brayer, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Versamark Marker, Gold Brads

dsc05051.JPG

Stamped Toile Blossom images on a piece of 5″ x 5″ Whisper White card stock with Palette Noir Black ink.

dsc05025.JPG

dsc05026.JPG

Colored the center of the flower petals with a Prismacolor Deco Pink marker.

dsc05027.JPG

Added just a little Prismacolor Magenta marker to the flower petal centers.

dsc05028.JPG

Colored the leaves with a Prismacolor Chartreuse marker.

dsc05029.JPG

Colored the shadow (dark side) of the leaves with a Prismacolor Light Olive Green marker.

dsc05030.JPG

Colored over the leaves and flowers with a Versamark marker.

Note:  Be careful to color the white parts first and then the colored parts so the color doesn’t smear onto the white part of your image.  You can clean the tip of your Versamark marker my coloring on scrap paper for a second.

dsc05031.JPG

Heat emboss the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05032.JPG

Brayered Soft Sky ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc05033.JPG

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink at the very top of the card stock, not covering the Soft Sky ink entirely.

dsc05034.JPG

Stamped Tree image with Palette Noir Black ink.

dsc05035.JPG

Sponged More Mustard ink on the bottom of the card stock.

Note:  The embossed images resist the ink.  Just wipe the ink off the images with a paper towel.

dsc05036.JPG

Sponged Old Olive ink at the bottom of the card stock using a swiping motion from the bottom let corner toward the top right.  This was done to simulate grasses.  Also, sponged Old Olive Green ink in the leaf area of the tree.

dsc05037.JPG

Added just a bit of Black ink to the very bottom of the card stock.

dsc05038.JPG

Colored the tree trunk with a Going Gray Marker and added some grasses at the base of the tree with a Prismacolor Light Olive Green marker.

dsc05039.JPG

Sponged a bit of Basic Black ink on the right side of the leaf area of the tree and just a faint hint of black under the tree for a shadow.

dsc05040.JPG

Added White highlights (specks) on the left side of the leaf area of the tree with a white gel pen.

dsc05041.JPG

Sponged heavily some Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock to give the sky some interest.

dsc05042.JPG

Used a black fine line marker and traced along the bottom side of the flowers and leaves to create the look of a shadow.  Also colored along the right side of the tree trunk with the black marker.

Used the ticket corner punch on the main image panel and the Not Quite Navy panel.

dsc05043.JPG

Used my piercing tools and a fine tip black marker to do some faux stitching all the way around the card stock.

dsc05044.JPG

dsc05045.JPG

Added some gold brads and here is the completed card measuring 5.25″ x 5.25″.

dsc05046.JPG

Hope your day is filled with blooming flower gardens and shade trees.

Until my next post. . . . . . .
