Now about today’s tutorial, this card was created this morning for my Mother who has a birthday today. Nothing like waiting until the last moment to get the card done, lol. Anyway, I wanted to give her a very bright and cheerful card. I believe I succeeded. 🙂

Stamps: Stampin’ Up “Pick a petal” and “Bloomin’ Beautiful”

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White and Chocolate Chip

Ink: Stampin’ Up Tangerine Tango, Chocolate Chip, Tempting Turquoise & Crushed Curry

Accessories: Stampin’ Up Tempting Turquoise Brads, Sponges, Tempting Turquoise Marker, Versamark pad and marker, Stamp-a-ma-mig, Circle Scissors, Piercing Tool

I stamped the petals from the Stampin’ Up set “Pick a Petal” by first loading my stamp with Versamark, Crushed Curry ink and tapped the tip of the petal in Tangerine Tango ink before stamping it on the card stock. I repeated stamping and loading my stamp each time in between stamping.

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored over all the petals with a Versamark marker and heat embossed the images again with clear embossing powder and a heat gun to protect the white dots on the petals.

Sponged Crushed Curry ink in the center of the flower.

Used a piece of card stock that has a 3″ circle cut out of it to mask my main image panel and sponged Tangerine Tango ink around the inside edge.

Sponged Chocolate Chip ink around the inside edge of the mask, not covering the Tangerine Tango ink entirely.

Removed the mask and sponged Chocolate Chip ink in the center of the flower.

Sponged Tempting Turquoise ink around the flower petals.

Using my Stamp a ma jig for place, stamped the word Bloom from the Stampin’ Up set “Bloomin’ Beautiful” in the center of the flower using Chocolate Chip ink.

Created a shadow by outlining the right sides of the petals with a Tempting Turquoise marker.

Sponged Tangerine Tango ink around the outside edge of the card stock.

Added some ribbon, Tempting Turquoise brads and assembled my card front.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Cardinal Not Just for Christmas – Tutorial #237

Oh, how I love to take stamps that are out of season and use them on a card that is timeless. This Cardinal is from a Stampin’ Up set “A Cardinal Christmas” and as you can see you can use this set year around.

I also tried out my new Big Shot Die “Tulipe”. I only used part of the die cut. This Die has a few different design pieces that can be used by themselves or together for the full design.

Let’s get started on the tutorial. 🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up “A Cardinal Christmas”

Paper: Stampin’ Up Very Vanilla, Sahara Sand, Basic Black

Ink: Stampin’ Up Sahara Sand & Basic Black

Accessories: Versamark Pad and Marker, Prismacolor Markers, Sharpie Metallic Gold Marker, Brayer, Big Shot Die “Tulipe”, Sizzix Texture Plate, Big Shot Die Cutter, Gold Brads & Piercing Tool

Stamped the Cardinal on a 3.5″ x 5″ piece of Very Vanilla card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then with Basic Black Dye ink before stamping it.

If you have Black pigment ink you do not need the Versamark. 🙂

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Note: I only own and use clear embossing powder. If you use clear embossing powder you can emboss in any color in which you have ink. 🙂 Saves money and space.

Colored the bird’s beak with a Goldenrod Prismacolor Marker.

Colored the bird in with a Cherry Prismacolor Marker.

Colored the darker parts of the bird with a Mahogany Red Prismacolor Marker.

Colored the leaves in with a Khaki Prismacolor Marker.

Colored the Berries in with the Mahogany Red Prismacolor Marker.

Colored the birds feet with a Cool Grey 50% Prismacolor Marker.

Colored over the image, staying in the embossed lines, with a Versamark Marker.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Now that my image has been heat embossed it will resist the ink that is stamped over it.

Stamped the Leaf stamp twice with Sahara Sand ink.

Sponged Sahara Sand ink around the outside edge of the card stock and behind the Sahara Sand Leaves.

Stamped the leaf stamp again using Basic Black ink.

Used a Sharpie Metallic Gold Paint Marker on the edge of the card stock.

Note: Hold the marker half on the card stock and half on the scrap paper and then pull the marker straight down the edge of the card stock. No ruler needed.

Used a Stampin’ Up Sizzix Texture Plate on a Sahara Sand card stock panel using my Big Shot.

Brayered Sahara Sand ink over the texturized panel to bring out the texture better.

Used the Sharpie Metallic Gold Marker on the edge of both the Sahara Sand and Black panels.

Used the Tulipe Big Shot Die and ran it through twice with Black card stock.

Only used part of the design on the finished card.

Added the Die cuts and 4 Gold Brads, using my piercing tool to start my brads.

Here is the finished design measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to look at your holiday stamps in a different light. I just might get more use out of them.

Sunset Skateboarder – Tutorial #236

I realize this is my third post today, lol. Two tutorials and blog candy to boot. I must really like my Blog Readers!

This is of course, for the boys!

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Extreme Skateboard & Sanded Background Stamp

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Summer Sun, Pumpkin Pie, Elegant Eggplant

Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Summer Sun, Elegant Egg Plant, Perfect Plum & Pumpkin Pie

Accessories: Sponge, Brayer, Stampin’ Up Circle Scissors to create mask

On a 3″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock brayered Summer Sun ink at the bottom.

Brayered Perfect Plum ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Elegant Eggplant ink at the top not covering the Perfect Plum ink entirely.

Brayered Pumpkin Pie ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Used a 4.5″ card stock circle to mask the card stock.

Sponged Basic Black ink at the bottom of the card stock where it is not masked.

Used my Stamp A Ma Jig for placement and Stamped the Skateboarder with Basic Black ink.

Cut 3 panels, Summer Sun, Pumpkin Pie & Elegant Eggplant. Stamped the Sanded Background Stamp on each one. The Pumpkin Pie Panel and Eggplant panels were stamped in Elegant Eggplant ink and the Summer Sun Panel was stamped in Pumpkin pie ink.

Sponged Black around the edges of the panels to smudge them up a bit.

Assembled my card front and added a couple of brads to enhance the wheels of the skateboard. Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Hi Everyone, I’m back. . . . . . I had a terrific time going down South to New Johnsonville, Tennessee. I met the most terrific group of ladies. Just look at this group of Advanced Brayer Students. We got down and inky and really had a blast. 🙂

I stamped the flowers twice loading the stamp with Versamark and Basic Black ink in between stampings.

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the inside of the leaves with a Sage Shadow marker.

Added Certainly Celery marker to the leaves.

Colored the darker parts of the flowers with a Blush Blossom marker.

Stamped the image from the “Dream Gardens” set by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then with Basic Black ink before stamping it. Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored over all of the images with a Versamark marker, being very careful to stay within the embossed image lines and then heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder.

Brayered Sage Shadow ink at the top of the card stock.

Sponged Certainly Celery ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Sponged Sage Shadow ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Certainly Celery ink entirely.

Used a Stampin’ Up Ticket Corner Punch on the corners of the main image panel.

Edged my main image panel, Blush Blossom card stock panel and the Sage Shadow card stock panel with a Metallic Gold Sharpie Paint marker.

Assembled my card front and added 5 gold brads at the bottom. Used my Piercing mats and piercing tools to make the starter holes for the brads and to get them lined up correctly.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Time Goes By So Swiftly – Tutorial #233

Looking at my Grand Daughter below with her cake that she help me make last night I want to tear up. I swear it was just yesterday that she was born and here she is turning 6 years old. Happy Birthday Hailie Jade. Your are the light of my life!

So with that being said I wanted to create a card today that reflected time in some manner. So here it is.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Sense of Time and Thoughts & Prayers

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Dusty Durango, Bashful Blue and Basic Black

Ink: Stampin’ Up White, Basic Black, Old Olive, Always Artichoke, Dusty Durango, Not Quite Navy, Bashful Blue & Apricot Appeal

Accessories: Brayer, Clear embossing powder, heat gun, Versamark pad, Post it notes, sponge, White Gel Pen, Sakura Souffle Pens in Orange and light blue.

Stamped Clock on a 4″ square piece of Whisper White card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then with Basic Black ink before stamping it.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Masked the bottom of the card stock with a post it note and flipped it upside down and brayered Apricot Appeal ink on the card stock.

Flipped the card stock right side up and Brayered on Bashful Blue ink.

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink on the card stock, not covering the Bashful Blue up entirely.

Brayered Dusty Durango ink on the Apricot Appeal ink, not covering it entirely.

Took the old Post it note mask off and put a new one on to cover the sky area. Sponged Old Olive ink on the unmasked area.

Sponged Always Artichoke ink on the right hand side of the card stock.

Sponged Basic Black ink on the Right side of the card stock, not covering the Always Artichoke ink up entirely.

Stamped the tree by first loading the stamp with Old Olive ink. Then added Always Artichoke ink to one side of the tree leaves and Basic Black ink to the trunk before stamping it.

Sponged Basic Black ink all the way around the card stock edge and under the tree to create a shadow.

Stamped the gears twice with Basic Black ink.

Added White Gel pen hightlights to the tree and a few dots in the grassy area.

Layered the main image panel with a Dusty Durango Panel, Bashful Blue Panel and Basic Black Panel. Stamped the top of the tree at the bottom of the Black panel with White Craft (Pigment) ink.

Added Sakura Souffle pens in Orange and light blue to some of the leaves.

Added another Bashful Blue Panel and Basic Black panel. Here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May we all slow down for a moment today and just enjoy life.

Top Note Floral Sunrise – Tutorial #232

I woke up this morning with this card rattling around in my head so I started stamping at 5:00 a.m. so I can move on with my day and not forget this idea. But before we get into the tutorial I have a couple of announcements to make.

You Northern Ohio Readers have requested it so here it is, for one day only I will be teaching my brayer workshops in Fairlawn, Ohio near Akron October 10, 2009.

I will also be returning to the Rochester, New York area in North Chili on June 26-27, 2010. 🙂 For those of you who recently attended my New York workshops and requested I come back and teach two more advanced workshops, you got it. On June 27th I will be teaching two advanced workshops that will have different projects and kits in each workshop. Used my Big Shot and Top Note Die to cut this Top Note out of Whisper White card stock.

I then cut 1.25″ of it off at one end.

Trimmed the outer edge off of both pieces with scissors.

Sponged on Summer Sun ink.

Sponged on Pumpkin Pie ink.

Masked the top of the card stock with a Post it Note.

Sponged Pumpkin Pie ink on the unmasked area.

Sponged Dusty Durango ink (another great new In Color by Stampin’ Up) on the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Pumpkin Pie ink entirely.

Took the Post it note off and turned it around so it is masking the bottom of the card stock and sponged a bit of Chocolate Chip ink at the Post it note edge.

Removed the Post it note and Sponged Dusy Durango on the small piece of card stock and the very top of the larger one.

Sponged Chocolate Chip ink at the bottom of the large piece and top of the small piece of card stock.

Stamped the Asian Artistry flower twice with Chocolate Chip ink.

I have a bunch of these Sakura Souffle pens and this is the first time I have used one in a tutorial, but I bet you will see this again in the future. These pens can be used on dark colored card stock and stand out great! They don’t sink into the card stock put stay raised.

Use the light blue Souffle Sakura pen on the flower portion of the image. It is hard to see it until it dries completely.

Added White gel pen highlights to the foliage.

Cut another Top Note out of Bashful Blue card stock.

Glued the main image panel pieces to the Bashful Blue Top Note and then cut it apart.

Assembled part of the card front and added piercings down the right and left side using the Stampin’ Up Piercing tools and mat kit.

Added White Gel Pen from one piercing whole to the next to create faux stitching.

Added Silver brads and assembled the card the rest of the way. Here it is finished measuring 5.25″ square.

Layered Illusion Floral – Tutorial #230

This card looks like it has many layers, but it only has (2) two, the main image panel and the Blush Blossom Card. Stay a moment with me and I will show you how this was all done.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Bloomin’ Beautiful & Baroque Motifs

Ink: Stampin’ Up Sahara Sand, Old Olive, Cameo Coral, Chocolate Chip & Soft Suede

Accessories: Stampin’ Up Markers, Sharpie Metallic Gold Paint Marker, White Gel Pen, Clear embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Versmark Pad & Marker, Post it notes & sponges

Started with a 4.75″ square piece of Whisper White card stock and masked the bottom 1″ of it with a post it note.

Stamped the flower twice at first loading my stamp with Versamark, Cameo Coral and tapped a bit of Old Olive on the stem area before stamping the image.

Heat embossed the flowers with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Added a bit of Blush Blossom marker to the flower heads.

Colored in the stems and leaves with a Sahara Sand marker.

Colored over the flowers and stems with a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the images with clear embossing powder. If after heating your embossing looks pitted, go over it again with Versamark and clear embossing powder and heat again. This second layer of embossing really protects the images from the ink we will be putting over them.

Yikes, I grabbed my inked up Versamark pad here instead of my clean one, which was my intention. Oh well, gotta stick with it now that I stamped one of the flourishes with it.

Stamped flourished around the entire outside of the card stock with Versamark only.

Heat embossed the flourishes with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Sponged Sahara Sand ink all over the card stock.

Masked the center of the cardstock with a post it note.

Sponged Soft Suede ink around all over the unmasked portion of the card stock.

Can I say love this new In Color! I will be getting some mileage out of this pad in the future.

Sponged Chocolate Chip ink around the outside edge of the card stock, not covering the Soft Suede ink entirely.

Unmasked the panel.

Sponged Soft Suede lightly over the edges of the previous masked area to soften them some.

I had a speck of something blue on my card stock so I decided to add the white gel pen dots to hide it. 🙂

Extended the stems down to the masked line with an Old Olive marker.

Added a Shadow on the bottom and left side of the previous mask area to create a shadow using a ruler and a Soft Suede marker. That’s right, for the first time Stampin’ Up has put out markers to match their in colors this year, YEAHHHHHH!

This is a very easy step that adds so much. 🙂

Oops! I see that I missed a photo. I used a Metallic Gold Sharpie Paint marker on the edge of the card stock to make it look like a gold card stock layer.

Adhered the main image panel to the Blush Blossom card. Also added some gold cord. Here it is assembled measuring 5.25″ square.

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to create layers with your images and shadows. Two layer cards are a lot lighter to mail. 🙂 And look at all the card stock you could be saving.

On a 3″ x 8″ piece of Whisper White card stock, stamped the flower image three times by loading my stamp first with Versamark and then with Kiwi Kiss ink before stamping each image.

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock, not covering the Baja Breeze ink entirely.

Brayered Really Rust ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Brayered Ruby Red ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Really Rust ink entirely.

Added a dark Green marker shadow to the right sides of the plants.

Added some White gel pen lines at the bottom of the card stock.

Colored in the flower heads with the White Gel Pen.

Use the negative piece of card stock that I cut a 3″ circle out of with a Circle Cutter for a Mask to create my Moon. Sponged White Craft ink (Pigment ink) in the open area of the mask.

Removed the mask and sponged Close to Cocoa at the base of each plant and at the very bottom of the card stock.

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the top sides and top edge of the card stock.

Assembled a few simple layers and here is the finished card measuring 4″ x 9″.

Butterfly Season – Tutorial #227

Lounging in the yard last night gave me the inspiration to create a butterfly card. I actually stayed up late last night, midnight to be exact, stamping this. If you know me, you know that is way, way, way out of character for me. I am an early to bed, early to rise person, so that must have been some inspirational force to make me stay up late. I’m such a party animal, lol.

This tutorial is an example of what can be achieved with two layers of card stock. 🙂 I know that 15 layers is the current fad, but it is nice not to have such a heavy card to mail, now and again.

But before we get started I have some blog candy to award in the “Name that Bird” contest. The bird now has a name. It was extremely hard to pick one from all of the entries. First, I made the long list. Then I created the short list. Then I actually had to pick a name and the winner is out of 398 entries.

Linda who wrote “Obviously, his/her color jumps right out off the page…The shade of blue reminds me of the Carribean…which leads to Buffet and Marley Music…which makes me think “Marley” would be an awesome name! Parrothead might not work, huh!? LOL Of course an Aqua Cosmo if one of my favorite drinks, so “Cosmo” might work too! HA”

On a 4 7/8″ piece of Whisper White card stock, stamped the butterfly by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then Basic Black ink before stamping it in the center of the card stock.

Sorry folks, this Stampin’ Up set is retired and is no longer available, but you can you use any butterfly you have in your stamp collection for this project.

Heat embossed the butterfly using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the Butterfly in with a Stampin’ Up Apricot Appeal Marker.

Added some More Mustard marker to the butterfly.

Added Pumpkin Pie marker to the center of the butterfly’s wings.

Colored over the butterfly with a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Now I keep a pile of old circular mask. This piece of card stock has a 3 1/8″ circle cut out of it.

I placed this over the butterfly image and then drew squiggly lines around the inside of the mask with an Always Artichoke marker.

Removed the mask and sponged So Saffron ink on the card stock in a pouncing motion.

Sponged More Mustard ink on the card stock in a pouncing motion.

Sponged Pumpkin Pie ink on the card stock using a pouncing motion.

Sponged Really Rust ink on in a circular motion.

Stamped side “C” of my Stampendous Marble Texture Cube using Close to Cocoa ink repeatedly until I achieved the look I wanted.

Sponged Close to Cocoa ink on the card stock using a circular motion.

Sponged Basic Black ink around the edge of the card stock using a circular motion.

Sponged More Mustard ink on the inside of the circle using a circular motion and leaving a light ring around it.

Outlined my card stock using a Metallic Gold Sharpie Paint marker, by holding the marker half on the card stock and half off the card stock and pulling straight down. Repeat this for each side of the card stock.

Added my Basic Black panel and some gold brads in the middle. Here it is my two layer card measuring 5.25″ square.

Good Morning, Good Morning, Good Morning! I finally feel like I could catch my breath this morning and slooooowwww down to create a little something at a leisurely pace. Sometimes the world just seems like it is going 100 miles an hour. I try not to get caught up in the race, but it sneaks in sometimes anyway, lol. We moved to the country 4 years ago to step back from things a bit and enjoy the slower pace. I forget that now and then.

This mornings project hopefully reflects a peaceful scene, that was my intention anyway.

Supplies:

Paper: Stampin’ Up Old Olive Designer Paper, Whisper White & Basic Black card stock

Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Sahara Sand, Old Olive, Always Artichoke & Close to Cocoa

Accessories: Versamark marker & pad, Stampin’ Up Markers, Old Olive Brads, Black Gingham Ribbon, White Gel Pen, Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, Post it Note, Clear embossing powder, Heat Gun, Sponge

On a 3.5″ x 4.25″ piece of Whisper White card stock stamped the bench with Close to Cocoa ink.

Now this is what happens to your photographs when you accidentally hit the wrong button on your camera, your pictures go out of focus and you don’t realize it until you start to edit them. 🙂

So there are no in focus photos for a few of these next steps, but I will walk you through it.

Colored the bench with a Creamy Caramel marker.

Colored the shadow areas on the legs of the bench with a Close to Cocoa marker.

Colored over the bench legs again to blend the shading with the Creamy Caramel Marker.

Colored over the bench with a Versamark marker and heat embossed the image with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped the boots with Basic Black ink using a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement.

Now we are back in focus, lol.

Colored the middle boots with an Old Olive marker.

Added Always Artichoke marker to the boots.

Colored the boots on the left with an Apricot Appeal marker.

Added More Mustard marker to the boots.

Colored the boots on the right side with a Rose Red Marker.

Added Bravo Burgundy marker to the boots.

Colored over the boots with a Versamark marker and heat embossed them using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Created a clap board wall behind the bench by using a post it note to mask and sponge at the edge of the post it note with Sahara Sand ink. Moved the mask and repeated sponging over and over until my wall was built. 🙂

Sponged in the ground with Old Olive ink.

Added Always Artichoke ink with a sponge at the bottom of the card stock.

Stamped the tree leaves by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then with Old Olive ink before stamping. Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped the tree over the leaves using Close to Cocoa ink, omitting the grassy section of the stamp by not inking it. Extended the trunk of the tree at the bottom using a Close to Cocoa marker.
