Snowman Greetings – Tutorial #149 and some Basic Grey Blog Candy

We had our first snow for the season yesterday and it put me in the mood to stamp a holiday greeting card. I really love snowman stamps and this one is especially wonderful because this snowman by MyPaperMoon.com is not looking straight ahead. You can have him looking at a multitude of things. Supplies:

Stamps: My Paper Moon.Com Snowman, Stampin’ Up Warmest Regards & All Season Wreath

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black & Bravo Burgundy

Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Baja Breeze, Tempting Turquoise & Craft White, Adirondack Lake Mist & Oregano

Accessories: Versamark Pad and Marker, White Gel Pen, Prismacolor Markers, Stampin’ Up Markers, Post it Note, Clear embossing powder, Heat Gun, Sponges, Stamp-A-ma-Jig, Photo Corner Punch

Stamped Snowman by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then loading it with black ink before stamping it on a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Heat embossed the image using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored his nose with a More Mustard marker.

Colored his pipe with a Close to Cocoa marker.

Colored his scarf and the inside of his hat with a Baroque Burgundy marker.

Colored the dark parts of his scarf and inside of his hat with a Bravo Burgundy marker.

Colored the dark parts of the snowman’s body with a 10% Grey Prismacolor Marker.

Added Muted Turquoise marker to the shadow parts of his body to give him a blue tint.

Colored over the entire image with a Versamark marker being careful to color the light sections first and then the colored sections. Remember lightest to darkest. 🙂

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Brayered on Baja Breeze ink.

Sponged Tempting Turquoise ink below the Baja Breeze ink.

Sponged a little Oregano ink behind the snowman.

Stamped the sentiment in black ink using a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement.

Tore through the sticky edge of a post it note and then sponged Lake mist ink right at the post it note edge to create some mounts of snow.

Moved the post it note and repeated for a second mound.

Assembled card front and added punched black photo corners.

Stamped the All Season Wreath stamp around the right and left sides of the Burgundy panel using Craft White ink.

Added dots for berries with a White Gel pen.

Added more dots on the Burgundy panel and some doodles on the Photo Corners. Also added the brads to the photo corners.

Here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Lone Wolf – Tutorial #148

Good morning, it is with great sadness that I must part with my Sister for a little while. She will be flying back to Colorado this morning. We had such a wonderful visit together over the weekend. Thank you to everyone that wished us a good time. 🙂 My blog readers are the very BEST!

I have this Lone Wolf tutorial for you this morning. It is kind of how I feel today. 😦

All right then, let’s get going on the tutorial. 🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Clearly Inspired LCS101 Nature/Father

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black & Taken with Teal

Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Adirondack Butterscotch, Oregano, Black, Espresso, Pesto, Pool

Accessories: Brayer, Sponges, White Gel Pen, Brads, Post it Notes

Brayered Pool ink on a 4.25″ x 5.25″ piece of Whisper White Card stock.

Brayered Butterscotch ink at the top of the card stock.

Masked the water area of the card stock with a couple of post it notes.

Sponged in some mountain shapes with Oregano ink.

Sponged some Pesto ink at the bottom of the mountains.

Removed the post it notes.

Put new post it notes on to mask the sky area. I left just a bit of the mountains showing at the bottom of the post it notes so I would not get a halo effect (white line).

Sponged on Pool ink right at the post it note edge using a back and forth motion.

Stamped the Wolf with Black ink.

Sponged in the hill using Black ink.

Sponge just a bit of Butterscotch ink around the top of the hill.

Sponge a bit of Espresso ink at the top of the card stock to create some clouds.

With a White Gel Pen, added a light broken outline to the wolf and a few dots at the top of the hill to create highlights.

Assembled card and here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

One more thing before I close today. My friend Karen Barber, had a wonderful group of ladies come in from the other side of Ohio to stay the night at her house and stamp their little hearts out. My sister and I were fortunate enough to have lunch at my local tea house with them and then travel back to Karen’s house to stamp for a little while. Here is a picture of the group.

Patriotic Horses – Tutorial #147

Well, well, well, you never ever know which way the wind will blow me in the morning when I sit down to stamp. I’ve kicked this idea around for a little while and decided to put it on paper before I forgot it.

My Sister, Sonja is flying in from Colorado today to stay with me for a few days and I really should be cleaning up the house for her visit, but what the heck she is family after all, lol. I would rather be stamping and blogging. 🙂

Let’s get started.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Bareback & Stardust

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Creamy Caramel & Bravo Burgundy

Ink: Distress Inks Aged Mahogany, Walnut Stain, Frayed Burlap & Antique Linen, Adirondack Denium and Stampin’ Up Basic Black

Accessories: Tim Holtz Ruler and Distressing Tool, Sponges, Clear embossing powder, heat gun, Versmark marker, Fine tip black marker, Push Pin

Dotted the left hand corner of a 3.25″ x 6″ piece of Whisper White card stock with a Versamark marker and heat embossed the dots with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Smeared Antique Linen ink directly on the card stock.

Used the corner of the Aged Mahogany ink pad and added the stripes.

Smeared Denim ink directly on the left hand corner of the card stock. Now you can see the dots.

Stamped the horses using Basic Black ink.

Sponged in the ground with Basic Black ink.

This whole panel is way to bright so I sponged on Brayed Burlap ink over the entire card stock with the except for the middle.

Sponged Walnut stain around the outer edges of the card stock.

Distress the edges of the card stock using the Tim Holtz distressing tool.

Dragged the distressed edges over the Walnut Stain ink pad to darken them.

Stamped the Stardust stamp along the top and bottom of a 5 1/8″ x 6 3/8″ panel of Bravo Burgundy card stock with Basic Black ink.

Sponged Basic Black ink around the edges of the card stock.

Adhered the main image panel to a panel of Creamy Caramel card stock and tied a piece of Raffia around it.

Adhered the Bravo Burgundy panel to a 5″ x 6.5″ piece of Creamy Carmel panel and pierced the top and bottom of the Bravo Burgundy Panel using a the Tim Holtz ruler and a push pin.

Finished creating my faux stitching by running a fine tip black marker from pierced hole to pierced hole.

Finished assembling card front and added brads to the corners of the main image panel. Here is the completed card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I hope this inspires you to get your ideas down on paper before they are wisked away. . . . .

Vase of Stems for You – Tutorial #146

Hi Everyone, I took a couple of days off from blogging. Sometimes I just don’t feel like stamping, GASP! No fear, the mood was back with me this morning, so here I am with another tutorial.

I rarely paper piece things on my projects, but I love to make easy to create vases out of circles and ovals, such as the one I did in this morning’s tutorial.

Let’s get started. 🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Stem Silhouettes and Frames with a Flourish

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black & Bravo Burgundy

Ink: Adirondack Cranberry, Raisin, Lake Mist & Espresso, Distress Inks Frayed Burlap & Antique Linen

Accessories: Sponges, Coluzzle, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Raisin Marker, White Gel Pen, Post it Notes, Brads

Cut a 2 1/8 circle out of Whisper White card stock using my coluzzle.

Cut a piece off of the top and bottom of the circle to create a vase shape.

Put a post it note on a 5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock. I put the top edge of the post it note where I want the top of the vase to be in my finished piece. I held the vase shape to the post it note and drew a line along the top flat edge of the vase to indicate how wide the opening of the vase is. This gives me some indication where to stamp my stems so they will appear to fit in the vase. 🙂

I stamped the stems 3 times using Cranberry ink and a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement.

Stamped the stems again to put a shadow on the wall for them using Lake Mist ink and the Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement.

Removed the square post it note mask and put another post it note on to mask the wall so I can sponge in my table top using Raisin ink.

Added some Espresso ink with a sponge to the top of the table, along the post it note edge.

Removed the post it note mask and stamped the flourish twice using Espresso ink and the Stamp-a-ma-jig again for placement.

Time to color my vase shape. Dragged the Antique Linen ink pad across the cut out vase.

Used the Frayed Burlap ink pad and dragged it on the 3 edges of the vase shape.

Sponged on Antique Linen lightly on the wall portion of the panel using very little ink on the sponge and also using a swiping motion, back and forth.

Added some Raisin marker to the right side of some of the twig leaves.

Added a bit of white gel pen highlights to some of the leaves. This is hard to see in the photos.

Glued my vase on my main image panel using my favorite all time adhesive, Tombo Mono Multi. I no longer use a dry adhesive. I got tired of my cards falling about.

Sponged Frayed Burlap ink around the edge of the main image panel.

Assembled my card and added brass brads to each corner of the main image panel. Here is the completed card measuring 5.5″ square.

Wonderful Snow Day – Tutorial #145

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Snow Angels & Lovely as a Tree

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Not Quite Navy & Baja Breeze

Ink: Stampin’ Up Not Quite Navy & Baja Breeze, Palette Noir Black

Accessories: Prismacolor Markers, Silver Brads, Red Silk Ribbon, Sponge, White Gel Pen, Brayer, Tim Holtz Ruler, Push Pin

Stamped Boy on a 4″ x 6.25″ of Whisper White card stock using Palette Noir Black ink.

Masked the snow area with a torn post it note.

Brayered on Baja Breeze ink.

Brayered on Not Quite Navy ink, not covering the Baja Breeze ink entirely.

Inked the tops of the trees only on this tree stamp with Palette Noir Black ink. I did this in order to omit the ground area of the stamp.

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink right at the post it note edge.

Removed the post it note and extended the tree trunks with a Black marker.

Colored the boy’s coat with a Prismacolor Sky Blue Light marker.

Added Blue Slate marker to his hat and coat.

Went over the coat and hat again with the Sky Blue Light marker to blend the two colors together.

Colored the mittens, gloves and a bit on the hat with a Scarlet Lake marker.

Added Mahogany Red marker to the scarf and mittens.

Colored the boots with a Light tan marker.

Added Walnut marker to the boots.

Went over the boots again with the light tan marker to blend the colors together.

Added Buff marker to his face.

Went over the snow angel lines in the snow with a Cool Grey 10% marker.

Added foot prints in the snow with the Cool Grey 10% marker.

Made dots in the sky for snow with a White Gel pen.

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink around the edge of the main image panel.

Pierced lines on each side of the main image panel using the Tim Holtz Ruler and a push pin.

Added Ribbon and brads and here is the complete card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Before I end this post I wanted to share a few photos from one of yesterday’s Beginner Brayer workshops from Marco Paper in Dayton, Ohio. Some of the ladies in yesterday’s workshops drove very long distances to attend. Ladies it was such a pleasure meeting and sharing with you, each and everyone of you are brayer masters now!

Supplies:

Stamps: Basic Grey “Insignia”

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White & Night of Navy

Ink: Adirondack Red Pepper, Sunshine Yellow, Bottle, Raisin, Pesto, Denim, Ginger, Butterscotch

Accessories: Mellow Moss Marker, Black Marker, White Gel Pen, Versamark pad & Marker, Sponges, Brads, Ticket Corner Punch, Fine Detail Clear embossing Powder & Heat Gun

Stamped Flowers on a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock by loading the stamp first with Versamark and then Pesto ink before stamping it.

Repeated the last step to add the second flowers.

Heat embossed the images using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the middle of the leaves with a Mellow Moss Marker.

Colored over the leaves and colored the white middle of the flowers with a Versamark Marker and then heat embossed them with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Sponged on Sunshine Yellow ink.

Sponged on Red Pepper ink.

Sponged on Butterscotch ink.

Sponged on Ginger ink.

Sponged on Bottle ink.

Sponged on Denim ink.

Sponged on Raisin ink.

Wiped the ink from the embossed images using a clean sponge.

Over stamped the embossed images with the weed stamp and more flowers using Denim ink.

Wiped off the embossed images again with a clean sponge.

Outlined the right sides of the embossed flowers with a fine point black marker.

Outlined the tops and left side of the embossed images with a white gel pen.

Used a ticket corner punch on the main image panel and the two panels below it.

Assembled card and added brass brads. Here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I hope this tutorial has encouraged you to use the white of your paper to add a bit of drama to your cards. Also this sponged background can be used for sooooo many scenes.

Homespun Snowman – Tutorial #143

Well I don’t know if they follow the Daylight Savings Time Change in your area of the world, but in Ohio we had to put our clocks back 1 hour last Sunday. Let me tell you what this does to me.

I normally wake at around 3:30 to 4:00 a.m. in the morning. I don’t own an alarm clock. I rely on my internal clock. When the time changes, my internal clock doesn’t and I wake up at 2:30 to 3:00 a.m. until my internal clock adjusts. Even for me that is way, way to early. So, for the next week or two I will try to force myself to stay a wake later in the evening to try to straighten my clock out. 🙂

But this morning I was wide a wake at 2:30 a.m.. So what’s a girl to do when she can’t sleep, well color a snowman, of course! Even though it is in the 70’s here for the next few days, not normal for Ohio in November. I guess I’m just screwed up all the way around, lol.

I decided to give this snowman a homespun feel this morning.

Supplies:

Stamps: Fire Cracker Designs by Pamela

Paper: Stampin’ Up Very Vanilla, Bravo Burgundy & Creamy Caramel

Ink: Stampin’ Up Creamy Caramel, Not Quite Navy, Night of Navy, Chocolate Chip & Basic Black, Palette Noir Black

Accessories: Prismacolor Markers, Black fine tip marker, White Gel Pen, Versamark Marker, Clear Embossing Powder, Brayer, Sponges, Word Window Punch, Heat Gun

Stamped Snowman on a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Very Vanilla card stock with Palette Noir Black ink.

For those of you who follow my blog, you thought I was going to say Whisper White didn’t you?

Stamped the Sentiment on the sign with Palette Noir Black ink.

Colored the snowman with a Prismacolor Brick Beige marker.

Added Cinnamon Toast marker.

Added Mocha Light marker.

Went over the layers of marker with the Brick Beige marker to blend them a bit.

Colored the nose with Sienna Brown marker.

Colored the scarf and mittens in with Crimson Red marker.

Added Mahogany Red to the scarf and mittens.

Added Cocoa Bean marker to the darkest areas of the sign and snowman edges.

Colored over the images with Versamark marker. Be careful with this step, the colors will smear so color your light colors first and work toward the dark, cleaning your Versamark marker tip often on your scrap paper.

Note how the Versamark changes the color of the snowman and sign. You can count on Versamark to make your images a shade or two darker.

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and heat gun.

Brayered Not Quite Navy at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Night of Navy at the top of the card stock, not covering the Not Quite Navy entirely.

I wiped the brayered ink from the snowman the best I could with a paper towel, but my snowman is stained a bit. Oh well he just looks a bit more rustic now. 🙂

Defined the snowman’s hair a bit with a black fine tip marker.

Ripped the edge off of a scrap piece of card stock to use as a mask.

Held the mask in place and sponged Creamy Caramel ink at the mask edge.

Added a bit of Chocolate Chip ink at the mask edge, not covering the Creamy Caramel ink entirely.

Removed the mask. See, I now have a horizon line.

Moved the masked down to the bottom of the card stock and repeated sponging the Caramel ink and the Chocolate Chip ink at the mask edge to create a hill in the snow.

Removed the mask and sponge just a bit of Chocolate chip ink under the snowman to create a shadow.

Used the fine tip black marker again to add dimension to the sign and snowman by putting a line under the snowman and under the sign and to the right of the sign and sign post.

Sponged Night of Navy ink at the top of the card stock to really darken it.

Sponged Black ink around the entire main image panel.

Added dots in the sky and highlights to the top of the snowman and the sign with a White Gel pen.

Sponged around a Creamy Caramel panel with Chocolate chip ink.

Punched to word panel punches out of Bravo Burgundy card stock. Stacked them together and cut one end off of them.

Assembled my card added the punches and some copper brads. Here is the completed card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Here’s hoping your internal clock is ticking perfectly today!

Cardinals Home – Tutorial #142 and a Blog Candy Winner

Good morning, good morning, good morning! I love Sundays! I always try to make Sunday a complete down day for me. A day to sit back relax a while and try to re-energize before starting another week. But before I go and turn into a complete couch potato I made this tutorial for you.

I love bird watching and have quite a few bird feeders in the yard. Sometimes I think the birds are eating better than my husband and I when I look at our shopping bill, but that’s another story. 🙂

Male Cardinals are all over our area here in Ohio and a welcome splash of color at our feeders. This Cardinal stamp by Close to My heart is turning out to be one of my favorite. Supplies:

Stamps: Innovative Stamp Creations “Nature Silhouettes I” & “Textures”, Close to My Heart “Season of Splendor”

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Real Red & Old Olive

Ink: Adirondack Pesto & Lake Mist, Palette Noir Black & Stampin’ Up Basic Black

Accessories: Prismacolor Markers, Grey and Black marker, Versamark pad and marker, sponge, brayer, ruler, post it notes, Diamond Stickles, fine detail clear embossing powder, heat gun, brads, white ribbon

Stamped Cardinal with Palette Noir Black ink on a 4.5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock.

Colored the bird with a Prismacolor Scarlet Lake Marker.

Added Crimson Red to the dark areas.

Went over the entire bird again with the Scarlet Lake marker to blend.

Added Tuscan Red to the top of the back and underside.

Colored the beak Burnt Ochre.

Colored over the entire bird with a Versamark marker, being very careful to stay inside the lines.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped the flourish at the top of the card stock using Versamark only.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Brayered in Lake Mist ink all over the card stock.

Stamped wood grain with Lake Mist ink.

I decided I wanted the wood grain to show up better so I restamped it with Pesto ink.

Masked the Top of the card stock with a post it note and sponged Pesto ink right at the post it note edge to create a shelf for the bird to sit on.

Switched the direction of the post it note to create a board running from top to bottom by sponging Pesto at the post it notes edge.

Removed the post it notes and sponged Pesto ink around the outside of the card stock.

Also used a ruler to add a line of Grey marker to really define the boards I created.

Punched a circle in a piece of card stock and held it on the main image panel and sponged Pesto ink inside the circle to create a hole in the bird house.

Drew a black line around the inside of the circle skipping over the flourish showing. The black line gives a bit of dimension to the whole.

Sponged Black ink on the very edge of the card stock.

Wiped the ink off of my embossed images using a soft paper towel.

Sponged Black ink on a 5.25″ square panel of Old Olive card stock.

Added Ribbon, Brads & Stickles to the flourish.

Here is the complete card measuring 5.25″ Square.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Since it is the holiday my thoughts were I should make a Halloween card, but then why make one on the holiday when I don’t need it. I pondered this for about 15 minutes and then came to the conclusion you would rather look at a card that would inspire you for a project in the immediate future, cold months ahead. 🙂 This really turned out to be a man card. At least the men in my life would enjoy this one.

My cards usually have many, many steps, but this one turned out to be quite quick for me. Note, I said quick for “Me”. No markers, no heat embossing, no brayer, GASP! I know you probably went back and re-read that last sentence in disbelief. 🙂

Let’s get started.

Supplies:

Stamps: Impression Obsession “Branches of a Tree” & Close to My Heart “Warm Memories”

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black & Soft Sky

Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze & Soft Sky

Accessories: Silver Brads, Stamp-A-Ma-Jig & Sponge

Stamped the tree twice with Soft Sky ink on a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Whisper White Card stock.

Sponged Soft Sky ink in the center of the card stock.

Stamped twice the tree again with Baja Breeze ink.

Sponged Baja Breeze ink around the outside of the card stock, leaving the Soft Sky ink showing in the middle.

I came up with these blues to use by testing them on my scrap paper. 🙂

Stamped the tree twice again with Basic Black ink.

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink around the outside of the card stock, not covering the Baja Breeze sponged ink entirely.

Sponged Basic Black ink around the very edge of the card stock, not covering the Not Quite Navy ink entirely.

I got out my Stamp-a-ma-jig to figure out where I wanted my deer to be. Such a handy tool.

Note: if you don’t have a Stamp-a-ma-jig you need one! It is so nice to stamp the image on the clear sheet that comes with the tool and move it around on top of the card stock to see exactly how you would like to place an image on your piece. 🙂 Nope I don’t own stock in the Stamp-a-ma-jig company, lol. I wish I did though!

Anyway, I stamped the deer using Basic Black ink.

Assembled the card front and added silver brads to each cover of the main image panel. Here it is complete measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Hi! I’m back from the West Coast and WOW did I have a great time teaching Advanced and Beginner Brayer Workshops in California. Supplies:

Stamps: Innovative Stamp Creations “Autumn Leaves” and ” Fancy Designs”

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Bordering Blue & Chocolate Chip

Ink: Distress Inks Tea Dye, Weathered Wood, Old Paper & Walnut Stain, Palette Noir Black

Accessories: Prismacolor Markers, Versamark Marker, Sponge, Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Gun

Stamped both leaves with Palette Noir Black ink on a 5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock.

Colored the leaves in with a Prismacolor Cold Stone marker.

Colored the dark parts of the leaves with a Muted Turquoise marker.

Added some Cerulean Blue marker to the dark areas at the bottom of the leaves.

Colored over the images with a Versamark marker.

Heat embossed the leaves with fine detail embossing powder and a heat gun.

Tip: if after you heat emboss your embossing looks pitted, color over the images again with Versamark and heat emboss again with Clear embossing powder.

Used Old Paper Distress ink and swiped the edge of the ink pad across the card stock. These distress ink pads have a raised pad so it is very easy to use them for this technique.

Swiped the edge of a Tea Dye Distress Ink pad at the top left side and the bottom right side of the card stock.

Sponged a bit of Weathered Distress ink under the leaves.

Swiped the edge of a Walnut Stain Distress Ink Pad at the top left side and the bottom Right side of the card stock.

Stamped the flourish all around the edge of the card stock with Old Paper Distress ink.

Stamped the flourish again with Walnut Stain Distress ink at the top left and bottom right of the card stock.

Sponged Walnut Stain Distress Ink all round the edge of the card stock.

Assembled card and here it is finished, measuring 5.5″ square.

I hope this tutorial inspires you to think outside of the box when coloring objects, such as leaves. They don’t always have to be green, orange or yellow. 🙂
