Oriental Dream – Tutorial #302

dsc02662.JPG

I love to work with Silhouette stamps and this Stampin’ Up! set, Dream Gardens, item number 114395 is beautiful and fun to work with.

Today’s tutorial gives a little lesson on putting mountains in a scene.

dsc02670.JPG     First I have a question, I know there are a lot of dog lovers out there.  Anyone know what I can do to relieve my poor big baby, Lucas of anxiety attacks?  This tends to happen when I leave town and then he starts to tear up rugs.  My husband stays home with him, but he apparently misses me.  I’m not a fan of drugs.  Any suggestions?  Just thought I would ask.

Now let’s get started on that tutorial. . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Dream Gardens
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Apricot Appeal, Not Quite Navy, Going Gray and Basic Black
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Going Gray, Basic Black, Not Quite Navy, Pumpkin Pie and Apricot Appeal
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Distress Texture Plate, Not Quite Navy Brads, Apricot Appeal Ribbon, Scallop Edge Punch, Big Shot Machine, Sponges, Brayer

Don’t forget to request your copy of the new Stampin’ Up Occasions mini catalog and Sale-a-bration mini.   Just e-mail me your address and I will be glad to send you a set for free.

Brayed Going Gray ink at the top of a 4.5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc02647.JPG

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock, not covering the Going Bray ink entirely.

dsc02648.JPG

Brayered Apricot Appeal ink at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc02649.JPG

Brayered Pumpkin Pie ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Apricot Appeal ink entirely.

dsc02650.JPG

Ripped a mountain shape in a post it note and sponged Pumpkin Pie ink at the post it note edge to create the mountain.

dsc02651.JPG

dsc02652.JPG

Sponged a bit of Not Quite Navy, right at the point of the mountain.

dsc02653.JPG

Removed the post it note and stamped the Stamp from the Dream Gardens set using Basic Black ink.

dsc02654.JPG

Decided to put another mountain in the scene.  Repeated the steps above.

dsc02655.JPG

dsc02656.JPG

Stamped the sentiment “Dream” using Basic Black ink.

dsc02657.JPG

Sponged Basic Black ink around the edges and at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc02658.JPG

Smeared Going Gray ink on “Distressed” texture plate and ran a Going Gray Card stock panel through the Big Shot machine with it.  This creates a colored texture.  Be sure to clean up your texture plate after doing this.  🙂

dsc02659.JPG

dsc02660.JPG

Used the Scallop Edge punch on the main image panel.

Assembled the card and added Apricot Appeal Ribbon and Not Quite Navy Brads.

dsc02661.JPG

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Hope your Monday runs smooth as silk.

Until my next post.  . . .  . . . . . . . . ..

Hugs,

Michelle

dsc02643.JPG

On a 4.5″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock, pounced Bashful Blue ink with a sponge all over the card stock.

dsc02610.JPG

Stamped the bird image from the Stampin’ Up! set “Friends 24-7” by loading with Going Gray ink and then tapping my Basic Black ink pad on the bottom half of the stamp before stamping it.

dsc02611.JPG

I used my heat gun to dry the ink on the card stock and then used my Embossing buddy on the card stock also.  This was to make sure that the embossing powder in the next steps will not stick to the bird image or the blue ink that was sponged on.

dsc02615.JPG

Stamped the Flower stamp from the Stampin’ Up! set “Baroque Motifs” with Versamark only and then heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc02616.JPG

dsc02617.JPG

Stamped the Flourish from the “Baroque Motifs” using Versamark only.  Heat embossed the flourish using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc02618.JPG

dsc02619.JPG

Pounced on Tempting Turquoise ink using a sponge.

dsc02620.JPG

Pounced on Brilliant Blue ink using a sponge.

dsc02621.JPG

Pounced on Night of Navy ink with a sponge.

dsc02622.JPG

Pounced on Basic Black ink using a sponge.

dsc02623.JPG

Wiped the ink off of the embossed images using cotton towel.

dsc02624.JPG

Stamped the Flourish from the “Friends 24-7” set using Basic Black ink on the bottom of the card stock a few times.

dsc02625.JPG

Stamped a couple of the little flowers from the set “Baroque Motifs” using Brilliant Blue ink.

dsc02626.JPG

Added Sahara Sand marker to the bird.

dsc02628.JPG

Added a little Bashful Blue marker to the bird.

dsc02629.JPG

Added a little Not Quite Navy to the birds wing and underside.  This left a few hard lines, so to tone things down, went over the bird image again with the Sahara Sand marker.

dsc02630.JPG

Added Basic Black marker to the wing, head and tail.  Also added some sketchy lines of White Gel Pen to the birds head, chest and a tiny bit to the back.

dsc02632.JPG

Punched a small Tempting Turquoise flower for the center of my embossed flower.  Added a Night of Navy brad to the center.

dsc02633.JPG

Traced the underside of the flourish with a Not Quite Navy marker to add a shadow to it.  Wiped the marker off of the embossed image, where went over it.

dsc02634.JPG

Using the Spiral punch, punched the edge of a 5″ x 1.5″ piece of Brilliant Blue.

dsc02635.JPG

Stamped the flourish image with Basic Black ink three times across the top of the card stock.  Stamped a few of the same image really lightly further down the card stock.

dsc02636.JPG

Assembled the card using a 5″ x 6.5″ piece of Sahara Sand as the base of my card front.  Added a Bashful Blue ribbon to the front.

dsc02637.JPG

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

dsc02641.JPG

I hope you try layering and building up ink to get some depth in your projects.

May your day be one filled with peace and serentity.

Until my next post.  . . .  . . . . . . . . ..

Michelle

Let’s get started because I am in the middle of packing for my Phoenix, AZ workshops.   Phoenix here I come!

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! “C” is for Cat and Spotlight on Christmas
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Basic Black, Bashful Blue and Brillant Blue

dsc02524.JPG

Sponged a bit of Basic Black ink on the card stock corners.

Snowboarding II – Tutorial #295

dsc02458.JPG

Put away Christmas Decorations, Check.  Re-pot house plants, Check.   Replace 3 throw rugs the dogs tore up in your absence, Check.   Give the dogs a stern lecture about the new throw rugs as they sit smiling at you, Check!   Well that is a bit how my day has went.  Thank goodness I have my stamp room to retreat to.

Ready for today’s tutorial, I sure am, LOL.

You know how your project turns out when you get stray embossing powder on it and heat it that way, yuck.  Well this project uses embossing powder in that manner, but on purpose.  See the snow coming off of this snowboarders board.  🙂  Hang out a few moments and check it out.

Let’s get started. . . . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Extreme Snowboarding
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Basic Black, Not Quite Navy and Stampin’ Up Designer Paper
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Night of Navy, Not Quite Navy, Bordering Blue, Bashful Blue
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponges, Brayer, Stamp-a-ma-jig, clear embossing powder, heat gun, Versamark Pad, White Gel Pen, Not Quite Navy brads, Photo Corner Punch

Don’t forget to request your copy of the new Stampin’ Up Occasions mini catalog and Sale-a-bration mini.   Just e-mail me your address and I will be glad to send you a set for free.  If you are a customer of mine your copy will come to you automatically.  🙂

dsc02463.JPG

Sponged a bit of Versamark on a 3.5″ x 5″ Piece of Whisper White card stock.  Put clear embossing powder on the card stock.  Held the card stock up to a lamp and brushed a bit of the embossing powder off.  I wanted it to look scattered a bit, not bit bloaches.  Heated the embossing powder with a heat gun.    I know you cannot see where I put the Versamark or the Clear embossing powder.  You will be able to see it appear in the next photo.

dsc02445.JPG

Brayered Bashful Blue ink at the bottom of the card stock and brayered almost to the top of the cardstock.

dsc02446.JPG

Ripped some mountain shapes into a post it note and used it as a mask to create my mountains.

dsc02447.JPG

Sponed Bordering Blue ink in the unmasked area.

dsc02448.JPG

Moved the post it note mask and Sponge Not Quite Navy ink to create the second line of mountains.

dsc02449.JPG

Moved the post it note mask a third time and sponged Night of navy ink for the third line of mountains.

dsc02450.JPG

Swiped the ink from the heat embossing with an old cotton towel.

dsc02451.JPG

Used a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement and stamped the Extreme Snowboard stamp in Basic Black ink.

dsc02452.JPG

dsc02453.JPG

Used the post it note mask for a fourth time and added a hill by sponging Basic Black ink on the right lower corner.

dsc02454.JPG

Added White Gel Pen to a couple of the mountain peaks.

dsc02455.JPG

Ripped the top off of the main image panel.  Assembled card front and added Basic Black Photo Corner Punches and Not Quite Navy Brads.

dsc02456.JPG

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

dsc02458.JPG

May you have a stress free day!

Until my next post.  . . .  . . . . . . . . ..

Hugs,

Michelle

Pond Skating Greeting – Tutorial #287 and Ink Pads Winner

dsc01989.JPG

Good morning, good morning, good morning.   I am posting this and then I will run off to finish my Christmas shopping.  I just have one person left to buy for, my Mother.  My mother is the hardest one to buy for.  Especially since when you ask her what she would like for Christmas she gives you answers such as a Million Dollars, new car, new brain, lol.  We finally got a list from her so I will be able to finish all my shopping and hopefully wrap everything too.

Today’s tutorial is a holiday card.  I am sure you all have your cards all made and in the mail to the lucky recipients.   🙂  Me, I am still plugging along.  Just when I think I am all done, I think of someone that I missed.  I sent out around 150 cards.  Postage is a killer, lol.  Enough whining from me.   I have a announcement to make!

dsc01960.JPG  The winner of the Stampin’ Up ink pads is. . . . . . . . . . .

Sandy S, TN who wrote “I would love to make a home for the inks, right now our funds are pretty tight and that would be a wonderful Christmas present (for me). Our family has agreed not to exchange gifts this year and just be glad for what we have. So thank you for the chance to receive your ink gift.”

Congrats Sandy S!   Please e-mail your mailing address to me at mzindorf@aim.com and I will pop these homeless pads into the mail to you.

Thanks everyone for playing along.  🙂

One more thing, I updated my Travel photo page finally.  Thanks to everyone that has sent me photos from my brayer workshops they attended.  Here is a link if you want to check it out:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/travel-photos/

Or you can access it from the tab “Travel Pics” at the top of my blog.

Now on with today’s tutorial .. . . . . . ..

dsc01990.JPG

On a 4.5″ x 6″ piece of Whisper White card stock, stamped the Sentiment using Versamark only.  Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01961.JPG

dsc01962.JPG

Stamped the skaters by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then Basic Black ink before stamping it.  Heat embossed the skaters using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01963.JPG

Masked the bottom of the card stock with post it notes, leaving about 1″ of the card stock showing at the top.   Sponged Not Quite Navy ink in the un-masked area.

dsc01964.JPG

Sponged Night of Navy ink right at the post it note edge to darken the horizon line.

dsc01965.JPG

Added Pretty in Pink marker to the skaters.

dsc01966.JPG

Added Real Red marker to the skaters.

dsc01967.JPG

Added creamy Caramel marker the male skater.

dsc01968.JPG

dsc01969.JPG

Colored in the girls collar and cuffs with Pretty in Pink and Real Red markers.

dsc01970.JPG

Colored the skater’s faces in with Blush Blossom marker.

dsc01971.JPG

Colored over the skaters with a Versamark marker, being very careful to stay within the embossed lines.  Also it helps to start with the light areas first and work your way to the dark areas, cleaning your Versamark marker tip often.   This helps keep the areas from bleeding into one another.

dsc01972.JPG

Heat embossed the skates using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01973.JPG

Tore some post it notes and masked the sky and snow areas.

dsc01974.JPG

dsc01975.JPG

Added Brilliant Blue ink to the top of the pond area.

dsc01976.JPG

Edged the top of the pond using a Brilliant Blue marker.

dsc01977.JPG

Removed the post it note masks and wiped the ink off of my embossed images using a paper towel.

dsc01978.JPG

Using a torn post it note, sponged Tempting Turquoise ink at the torn edge of the post it note to create hills in the snow area.

dsc01979.JPG

Masked the sky area with post it notes and sponged Tempting Turquoise ink at the post it note edge to add color to the top of the snow area.

dsc01980.JPG

Added the line from the greeting to the skaters skate using a White Gel pen.  Also added a few dots in the sky.

dsc01982.JPG

Added Tempting Turquoise and Brilliant Blue Panels.  Also Added two large Whisper White photo corner punches.

dsc01983.JPG

Added Tempting Turquoise Brads to the photo corner punches using a piercing tool to start the brads.

Before I close for today I want to share with you something I received from my friend, Gail Emmons but it was written by Linda Payne.   Gotta love it!  This is not just a recipe, lol.

Cranberry Bread
By Linda Payne
Quick Recipe:
Grab a box of Pillsbury Mix while at local grocery store. Rush home.
Pull out loaf pan and turn on oven, break open box and dump contents into a bowl. Add eggs, oil and water per box.
Mix by hand – who wants to clean beaters – until all is moist. Pour batter into loaf pan, dump bowl and spoon into sink.
Set oven timer for time on box…ask hubby to carry in the rest of the groceries!

Long Recipe
Get all dressed up. Have your hair and nails done. Go shopping with a friend. On the way home make short stop at local grocery store (a one bag stop and include box of quick bread). Call hubby and let him know you’re making him something special when he gets home…if he’s already home – perfect! Once home – change into something comfy and cute and give hubby a wink… because you’re making him something special!
Pull out your Kitchen Aid mixer…turn on some music. Bring out your eggs, oil, measuring cups…put on an apron…give hubby a wink…because you’re making him something special!!
Turn on oven; prepare your loaf pan by spraying it with non-stick spray. Pour contents of box into mixer bowl. Add oil – start mixer on slow…watch it for a few seconds…turn it off. Carefully add eggs – start mixer on slow…watch it for a few seconds…turn it off (is hubby watching? send him a wink! because you’re making him something special!)
Carefully measure and add the water…..start mixer on slow…watch it for a few seconds…turn it off. Scrape your bowl…turn mixer on and let it mix for two minutes…check oven. Throw away box, egg shells, and wash measuring cup – put away oil.
Stop mixer. Scrape bowl …slowly pour batter into loaf pan and scrape mixer bowl. Put loaf pan in oven. Light a candle or two… (Is hubby watching…send him a wink! because you’re making him something special!)
If kids are in bed or away…you should have his attention by now…would suggest setting the timer in case you are “distracted”…but if you’re at my house… I’ve ditched the apron and have begun stamping and need to hear the buzzer so I don’t burn up my “something special for hubby”!!! who is so engrossed in the Andy Griffith show for the umpteenth thousand time that he doesn’t even realize how hard I just worked on the Long Recipe!
Ladies, you decide which recipe you prefer! LOL

May you be blessed today!

Huge Hugs and Happy Holidays,

Michelle

Traditional Santa – Tutorial #286 and Homeless Ink Pads

dsc01954.JPG

My last post was of a non-traditional colored Christmas Card.  Well today’s is definitely a traditional Christmas card.   This tutorial is a long one since I show how to build a scene using the embossed resist technique.

Before we get into the tutorial, I want to give away some homeless ink pads and reinkers.  One of these pads have never been used and the rest have been used very little and have lots of good life left in them.  This give away includes the following Stampin’ Up Classic ink pads:

Riding Hood Red, Tangerine Tango, Pink Pirouette, Pacific Point, Kiwi Kiss and 2 pads of Baja Breeze.  Also included is a reinker of Pacific Point and Kiwi Kiss.  🙂

Can you give these pads a good home?  If so, leave a comment on this post to enter the give away.  If you are receiving this post via e-mail you will need to click this link and then leave a comment at the bottom of the post:   http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2009/12/11/traditional-santa-tutorial-286-and-homeless-ink-pads/

I will select the winner using a random number generate on Monday, December 14, 2009.  Please help me find them a good loving home.  Thank you.  🙂

dsc01957.JPG

Using a Basic Black marker, colored in the part of the image that I wanted to stamp and then huffed my breath on it and stamped it on a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc01918.JPG

Added some Bravo Burgundy marker to the dark parts of his clothing.

dsc01919.JPG

Added Real Red marker to his clothing.

dsc01920.JPG

Colored his face in with a Blush Blossom marker.

dsc01921.JPG

Added Pretty in Pink marker to his cheeks.

dsc01922.JPG

Colored his boots and belt in with a Basic Black marker.

dsc01923.JPG

Added some Sahara Sand marker to the darker places in his beard and cuffs.

dsc01924.JPG

Oops!  Just seen that I colored the white fur on the bottom of his coat red.  Never fail, added some white gel pen to the bottom of this coat.

dsc01926.JPG

Used a heat gun and heated up the image to set the markers.

Colored over the image using a Versamark marker.  Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  Now the image is protected from further applications of ink (emboss resist).

dsc01927.JPG

dsc01928.JPG

Tore a bit off the top of a post it note and used it to mask my snow in my scene.

dsc01929.JPG

Stamped the flourish using Versamark only.  Heat embossed the flourish using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01930.JPG

dsc01931.JPG

Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig, Over stamp the Flourish by loading my stamp with Versamark and then Tempting Turquoise ink before stamping it.

dsc01932.JPG

dsc01933.JPG

dsc01934.JPG

Heat embossed the flourish using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01935.JPG

Brayered Tempting Turquoise ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc01936.JPG

Wiped the emboss images off with a cotton towel or a paper towel.  I use an old dish towel.  Trying to stay green.  🙂  Do this after each application of ink.

dsc01937.JPG

Brayered Not Quite Navy at the top of the card stock, not covering all of the Tempting Turquoise ink.

dsc01938.JPG

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the post it note edge to darken the horizon line.

dsc01939.JPG

Stamped the line of trees using Not Quite Navy ink only.  Wiped off the embossed images.

dsc01940.JPG

Moved the post it note down and added two hills by sponging Tempting Turquoise ink at the post it note edge.

dsc01941.JPG

dsc01942.JPG

Created texture in Santa’s beard by streaking White Gel pen on it.

dsc01943.JPG

Using a heat gun, heated the embossed images again to bring back the shine and to set the white gel pen.

dsc01944.JPG

Added a shadow for Santa by sponging Tempting Turquoise ink under him.

dsc01945.JPG

I learn things from my workshop students all the time.  Recently I learned from some smart ladies in Portland, Michigan, when you scrap a sponge full of ink against the card stock edge it is called “Whacking”, lol.  Sorry, when I say whacking it reminds me of watching the Sapranos.  Anyhow, I whacked the edges of the main image panel and a 5″ x 6.5″ panel of Real Red using Basic Black ink.  I like to put dark ink around the edges of my panels.  This saves me from putting a dark panel behind them.

dsc01946.JPG

Using my Stamp-a-ma-jig, stamped the sentiment using Basic Black ink.

dsc01947.JPG

Punched two Curly Labels from Basic Black card stock and folded each one in half.

dsc01948.JPG

Assembled the card, added the punched labels and Gold Brads.

dsc01949.JPG

Here is the completed card that measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

dsc01954.JPG

Have you been good this year?  You know he is watching!

I realize this post has been long, but I have one more thing to share with you.  This was sent to me by my Aunt Nancy.  She said it remindered her of me since I travel so much and live by my GPS system.

Question:

What do you get when you mix PMS with GPS? Answer:

A crazy witch who WILL find you!
Do you think my Aunt is trying to tell me something, lol.

Until my next post. . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Chilly Waterfront – Tutorial #283

dsc01849.JPG

Life is a bit more on the normal side for me this month since I will not be traveling any.  My husband is so use to me being gone a lot he may just kick me out around mid December, lol.

December!  I cannot believe it is December already.  Yesterday I did some Fall clean up in my perennial gardens and it was in the 50’s.  I was wearing a light jacket for Pete’s sake.  Now today we are suppose to get snow showers.  That is okay with me since I don’t have to get out and drive any where.

Maybe the snow will get me in the mood to do some Christmas shopping.  How many of you are now doing their Christmas shopping on line?  Personally, I like to go to the stores and shop.  Anyhow, knowing we are going to see some snow fall today put me in the mood for this chilly card.

Let’s get started. . . . . . .  . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Bird on a Branch and Serene Snowflakes
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Bashful Blue and Basic Black
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Bordering Blue and Bashful Blue
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Bashful Blue Brads, piercing tool, Brayer, Modern Label Punch, White Gel Pen, Versamark pad, clear embossing powder, heat gun, sponge and post it notes

I masked the 3.75″ x 4.25″ piece of Whisper White card stock with 3 torn post it notes to protect the white of the card stock where I would like to have snow.

dsc01832.JPG

Stamped a few snowflakes from the Stampin’ Up! set Serene Snowflakes using Versamark only.

dsc01833.JPG

Heat embossed the snow flake images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc01834.JPG

Now that my snowflakes are heat embossed they will resist the ink over them.

Brayered Bashful Blue ink at the top and bottom of the card stock.

dsc01836.JPG

Brayered Bordering Blue ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Bashful Blue ink entirely.

dsc01837.JPG

Put an untorn post it note at the top of the card stock and sponged Bordering Blue ink right at the post it note edge to create my horizon line.

dsc01838.JPG

Removed all of the post it notes.

dsc01839.JPG

Masked a bit of the snow with a post it note.  Stamped the twig image from the Stampin’ Up! set Bird on a Branch 4 times using Basic Black ink.

dsc01840.JPG

Added a few dashing in the water and snow on the twigs using a white gel pen.

dsc01842.JPG

Started putting together my layout.  Tore a 4.75″ x 6.25″ piece of Whisper White card stock so the torn edges continued the snow in the main image panel.

dsc01843.JPG

Added 2 Basic Black Modern Label punches to the left side of the card.  I cut one end off of each punch so they would like up with the edge of the card.

dsc01844.JPG

Added Bashful Blue brads using a piercing tool to start the brads.

dsc01845.JPG

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May you be warm and cozy wherever you are today.

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle
