Patriotic Horses – Tutorial #147

dsc06776.JPG

Well, well, well, you never ever know which way the wind will blow me in the morning when I sit down to stamp.  I’ve kicked this idea around for a little while and decided to put it on paper before I forgot it.

My Sister, Sonja is flying in from Colorado today to stay with me for a few days and I really should be cleaning up the house for her visit, but what the heck she is family after all, lol.  I would rather be stamping and blogging.  🙂

Let’s get started.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Bareback & Stardust
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Creamy Caramel & Bravo Burgundy
Ink: Distress Inks Aged Mahogany, Walnut Stain, Frayed Burlap & Antique Linen, Adirondack Denium and Stampin’ Up Basic Black
Accessories: Tim Holtz Ruler and Distressing Tool, Sponges, Clear embossing powder, heat gun, Versmark marker, Fine tip black marker, Push Pin

dsc06779.JPG

Dotted the left hand corner of a 3.25″ x 6″ piece of Whisper White card stock with a Versamark marker and heat embossed the dots with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06758.JPG

dsc06759.JPG

Smeared Antique Linen ink directly on the card stock.

dsc06760.JPG

Used the corner of the Aged Mahogany ink pad and added the stripes.

dsc06761.JPG

Smeared Denim ink directly on the left hand corner of the card stock.  Now you can see the dots.

dsc06762.JPG

Stamped the horses using Basic Black ink.

dsc06763.JPG

Sponged in the ground with Basic Black ink.

dsc06764.JPG

This whole panel is way to bright so I sponged on Brayed Burlap ink over the entire card stock with the except for the middle.

dsc06765.JPG

Sponged Walnut stain around the outer edges of the card stock.

dsc06766.JPG

Distress the edges of the card stock using the Tim Holtz distressing tool.

dsc06767.JPG

Dragged the distressed edges over the Walnut Stain ink pad to darken them.

dsc06768.JPG

Stamped the Stardust stamp along the top and bottom of a 5 1/8″ x 6 3/8″ panel of Bravo Burgundy card stock with Basic Black ink.

dsc06769.JPG

Sponged Basic Black ink around the edges of the card stock.

dsc06770.JPG

Adhered the main image panel to a panel of Creamy Caramel card stock and tied a piece of Raffia around it.

dsc06771.JPG

Adhered the Bravo Burgundy panel to a 5″ x 6.5″ piece of Creamy Carmel panel and pierced the top and bottom of the Bravo Burgundy Panel using a the Tim Holtz ruler and a push pin.

dsc06772.JPG

Finished creating my faux stitching by running a fine tip black marker from pierced hole to pierced hole.

dsc06773.JPG

Finished assembling card front and added brads to the corners of the main image panel.  Here is the completed card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

dsc06776.JPG

I hope this inspires you to get your ideas down on paper before they are wisked away. . . . .

Until my next post. . . . .. . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Vase of Stems for You – Tutorial #146

dsc06755.JPG

Hi Everyone, I took a couple of days off from blogging.  Sometimes I just don’t feel like stamping, GASP!  No fear, the mood was back with me this morning, so here I am with another tutorial.

I rarely paper piece things on my projects, but I love to make easy to create vases out of circles and ovals, such as the one I did in this morning’s tutorial.

Let’s get started. 🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Stem Silhouettes and Frames with a Flourish
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black & Bravo Burgundy
Ink: Adirondack Cranberry, Raisin, Lake Mist & Espresso, Distress Inks Frayed Burlap & Antique Linen
Accessories: Sponges, Coluzzle, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Raisin Marker, White Gel Pen, Post it Notes, Brads

dsc06757.JPG

Cut a 2 1/8 circle out of Whisper White card stock using my coluzzle.

dsc06732.JPG

Cut a piece off of the top and bottom of the circle to create a vase shape.

dsc06733.JPG

Put a post it note on a 5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock.  I put the top edge of the post it note where I want the top of the vase to be in my finished piece.   I held the vase shape to the post it note and drew a line along the top flat edge of the vase to indicate how wide the opening of the vase is.  This gives me some indication where to stamp my stems so they will appear to fit in the vase.  🙂

dsc06734.JPG

dsc06735.JPG

I stamped the stems 3 times using Cranberry ink and a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement.

dsc06736.JPG

dsc06737.JPG

dsc06738.JPG

Stamped the stems again to put a shadow on the wall for them using Lake Mist ink and the Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement.

dsc06740.JPG

Removed the square post it note mask and put another post it note on to mask the wall so I can sponge in my table top using Raisin ink.

dsc06742.JPG

Added some Espresso ink with a sponge to the top of the table, along the post it note edge.

dsc06743.JPG

Removed the post it note mask and stamped the flourish twice using Espresso ink and the Stamp-a-ma-jig again for placement.

dsc06744.JPG

dsc06745.JPG

Time to color my vase shape.  Dragged the Antique Linen ink pad across the cut out vase.

dsc06746.JPG

Used the Frayed Burlap ink pad and dragged it on the 3 edges of the vase shape.

dsc06747.JPG

Sponged on Antique Linen lightly on the wall portion of the panel using very little ink on the sponge and also using a swiping motion, back and forth.

dsc06748.JPG

Added some Raisin marker to the right side of some of the twig leaves.

dsc06749.JPG

Added a bit of white gel pen highlights to some of the leaves.  This is hard to see in the photos.

dsc06750.JPG

Glued my vase on my main image panel using my favorite all time adhesive, Tombo Mono Multi.  I no longer use a dry adhesive.  I got tired of my cards falling about.

dsc06751.JPG

Sponged Frayed Burlap ink around the edge of the main image panel.

dsc06752.JPG

Assembled my card and added brass brads to each corner of the main image panel.  Here is the completed card measuring 5.5″ square.

dsc06755.JPG

Now I know you have some flower stamps just waiting for a vase.  Give one a try!

May your day be filled with flowers and friends.

Until my next post. . . . . .. . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Cardinals Home – Tutorial #142 and a Blog Candy Winner

dsc06615.JPG

Good morning, good morning, good morning!  I love Sundays!  I always try to make Sunday a complete down day for me.  A day to sit back relax a while and try to re-energize before starting another week.  But before I go and turn into a complete couch potato I made this tutorial for you.

I love bird watching and have quite a few bird feeders in the yard.  Sometimes I think the birds are eating better than my husband and I when I look at our shopping bill, but that’s another story.  🙂

Male Cardinals are all over our area here in Ohio and a welcome splash of color at our feeders.  This Cardinal stamp by Close to My heart is turning out to be one of my favorite.  I’ve pair the cardinal up with some great images by Innovative Stamp Designs also.  Check out that wood grain and flourish.  Terrific together!  Here is a link to Innovative Stamp Creations web store:  http://www.innovativestampcreations.com/ischomepage.html

One announcement before I get into the tutorial.  We have a blog candy winner!!!!!  dsc06532.JPGDrum roll please. .. . . . . . . . . . . .   and the winner is . . . . . .

Debbie Stelton who wrote “Michelle I as so glad you enjoyed your trip and teaching your classes. As usual your card is awesome. Thank you for another chance to win some blog candy you are always so generous with your talent and great blog candy. Have a great week and TFS.”

Debbie, please e-mail your address to mzindorf@aim.com and I will get this terrific set in the mail to you.  Congrats!

Thanks to everyone else who played along!

Now for the Tutorial.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Innovative Stamp Creations “Nature Silhouettes I” & “Textures”, Close to My Heart “Season of Splendor”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Real Red & Old Olive
Ink: Adirondack Pesto & Lake Mist, Palette Noir Black & Stampin’ Up Basic Black
Accessories: Prismacolor Markers, Grey and Black marker, Versamark pad and marker, sponge, brayer, ruler, post it notes, Diamond Stickles, fine detail clear embossing powder, heat gun, brads, white ribbon

dsc06622.JPG

Stamped Cardinal with Palette Noir Black ink on a 4.5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc06588.JPG

Colored the bird with a Prismacolor Scarlet Lake Marker.

dsc06589.JPG

Added Crimson Red to the dark areas.

dsc06590.JPG

Went over the entire bird again with the Scarlet Lake marker to blend.

dsc06591.JPG

Added Tuscan Red to the top of the back and underside.

dsc06592.JPG

Colored the beak Burnt Ochre.

dsc06593.JPG

Colored over the entire bird with a Versamark marker, being very careful to stay inside the lines.

dsc06594.JPG

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06595.JPG

Stamped the flourish at the top of the card stock using Versamark only.

dsc06596.JPG

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06597.JPG

Brayered in Lake Mist ink all over the card stock.

dsc06598.JPG

Stamped wood grain with Lake Mist ink.

dsc06599.JPG

I decided I wanted the wood grain to show up better so I restamped it with Pesto ink.

dsc06600.JPG

Masked the Top of the card stock with a post it note and sponged Pesto ink right at the post it note edge to create a shelf for the bird to sit on.

dsc06601.JPG

dsc06602.JPG

Switched the direction of the post it note to create a board running from top to bottom by sponging Pesto at the post it notes edge.

dsc06603.JPG

Removed the post it notes and sponged Pesto ink around the outside of the card stock.

Also used a ruler to add a line of Grey marker to really define the boards I created.

dsc06604.JPG

dsc06605.JPG

Punched a circle in a piece of card stock and held it on the main image panel and sponged Pesto ink inside the circle to create a hole in the bird house.

dsc06606.JPG

dsc06607.JPG

Drew a black line around the inside of the circle skipping over the flourish showing.  The black line gives a bit of dimension to the whole.

dsc06608.JPG

Sponged Black ink on the very edge of the card stock.

dsc06609.JPG

Wiped the ink off of my embossed images using a soft paper towel.

dsc06610.JPG

Sponged Black ink on a 5.25″ square panel of Old Olive card stock.

dsc06611.JPG

Added Ribbon, Brads & Stickles to the flourish.

dsc06612.JPG

Here is the complete card measuring 5.25″ Square.

dsc06615.JPG

May your day be filled with Peace and Joy.

Night Owl – Tutorial #136

dsc06481.JPG

Happy Saturday!  I think I live for the weekends.  🙂

This morning I choose to be inspired by a fantasy art piece by Jessica Galbreth.  When I view art for inspiration I pick the elements from it that visually inspired me.  I’m sure you can see the elements that I pick out from this art piece.

dsc06480.JPG

dsc06439.JPG

dsc06441.JPG

Added Prismacolor Cool Grey 30% marker to the dark parts of the Owl.

dsc06442.JPG

Went a little darker over the darker with a Cool Grey 60% marker, not covering the Cool Grey 30% marker entirely.

 dsc06443.JPG

Colored over all of the grey areas again with the Cool Grey 10% marker to blend everything together and to get rid of any harsh lines where the colors meet.

dsc06444.JPG

Colored the eyes with Goldenrod.

dsc06445.JPG

Added Cool Grey 10% around the eyes.

dsc06446.JPG

Colored the beak and claws black.

dsc06447.JPG

dsc06449.JPG

Colored over the entire image, branch in all with a Versmark marker.

dsc06450.JPG

Heat embossed the image using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Note:  My embossing powder looked a bit pitted the first time, so I went over it again with a Versamark marker and heat embossed it a second time with clear embossing powder.  I wanted to make sure my bird was going to stay grey and white and not turn blue when I put the background in.  🙂

dsc06451.JPG

Cut a 3 5/8″ circle from card stock with a circle coluzzle template.

dsc06452.JPG

Used the circle as a mask for the moon and sponged Baja Breeze ink all over the card stock.

Tip: if your sponged ink looks really blotchy keep applying ink until it smooths out.

dsc06453.JPG

Cut a 3 1/8″ circle out of a piece of card stock with a Coluzzle.

dsc06454.JPG

dsc06455.JPG

Used the negative piece of card stock and put the opening to the right side of the moon I create and sponged Baja Breeze ink in the opening.

dsc06456.JPG

dsc06457.JPG

dsc06458.JPG

Sponged Baja Breeze ink to the right of the owl.

dsc06459.JPG

Put the circle mask back on and sponged Not Quite Navy ink around the top, left and bottom of the mask.  I left the right side of the mask light.

dsc06460.JPG

Removed the mask.

dsc06461.JPG

Put the negative piece of card stock back on and sponge Not Quite Navy at the top, left side and bottom of the opening, leaving the right side with not Not Quite Navy on it.

dsc06462.JPG

Removed mask.

dsc06463.JPG

Heavily sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the top and bottom of the card stock.

dsc06464.JPG

Sponged Night of Navy ink at the top and bottom of the card stock, being very heavy at the bottom.

dsc06465.JPG

Time to clean up or I will for sure have a nice big blue fingerprint on my stark white moon.  🙂

dsc06466.JPG

I liked unexpected texture in the background of the inspiration piece so I added a bit of marbling to mine.

Stamped side “C” of the Marble texture cube with Baja Breeze ink all of the card stock, while holding my breath, lol.  You just never know if you are pushing a piece to far.  🙂

dsc06467.JPG

Whew, let my breath out.  It looks fine.

Wiped the ink from the embossed images with a soft rag.

dsc06469.JPG

Assembled card front and added ribbon and silver brads.

Tip:  you can piece through your ribbon and cardstock with a piecing tool to get your brads started.

dsc06471.JPG

Almost forgot to put some stars in the sky.

Added stars by dotting randomly a bit of White Gel pen in the darkest areas of the card stock.

dsc06473.JPG

Here you have it, the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

dsc06481.JPG

I hope this tutorial inspired you to look at art and pull from it some really fun shapes to include in your own stamped art.

May your Saturday be all that you want it to be.

Until my next post. . . . .. . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Fall Swan – Tutorial #134

dsc06404.JPG

I’m really loving this Swan stamp that I got from www.FirecrackerDesignsbyPamela.com.  I paired it up with the Stampin’ Up Best Blossoms leaves that I already had sitting on my work space from a couple of projects I made earlier this week.  I also put a twist on the brayered background by brayering at an angle to create an interesting light effect.  Check it out in today’s tutorial.

Let’s get started.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: FireCrackerDesignsByPamela “Swan Song” & Stampin’ Up Best Blossoms
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Kiwi Kiss & Baja Breeze
Ink: Adirondack Butterscotch, Lettuce, Stonewashed, Aqua, Denim & Purple Twilight, Palette Noir Black
Accessories: Versamark Pad & Marker, Prismacolor Markers, Brayer, Fine Detail Clear embossing powder, heat gun, Sponge, Brads, Ticket Corner Punch

dsc06411.JPG

Stamped Swan on a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock using Palette Noir Black ink.

dsc06384.JPG

Colored the darker parts of the Swan with a Cool Grey 10% Prismacolor marker.

dsc06385.JPG

Added darker shadows on the Swan with a Cool Grey 50% Prismacolor Marker.

dsc06386.JPG

Went back over the greys again with the 10% Cool Grey marker to blend them together.

dsc06387.JPG

Colored the beak with a Goldenrod Prismacolor Marker.

dsc06388.JPG

Colored over the entire Swan being very careful not to go outside of the design lines with a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the image with fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06389.JPG

dsc06390.JPG

Stamped the leaves multiple times by first loading my stamp with Versamark, then Lettuce ink, then adding a bit of Butterscotch ink to the leaf tips with the corner of a Butterscotch ink pad before stamping.

dsc06391.JPG

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06392.JPG

Brayered Aqua ink all over the card stock.

dsc06393.JPG

Brayered Stonewashed ink at an angle on the bottom right corner and the top left corner.

dsc06394.JPG

dsc06395.JPG

Brayered Denim ink on the bottom right and top left corners not covering the the Stonewashed ink entirely.

dsc06396.JPG

Still brayering at an angle, added a bit of Purple Twilight with the brayer on the bottom right and top left corners not covering the Denim ink entirely.

dsc06397.JPG

Over stamped the embossed leaves with Oregano ink to add some depth to the scene.

dsc06398.JPG

Wiped the ink from the embossed images using a soft rag.

dsc06399.JPG

Sponged Denim ink around the outside edges of the card stock.

dsc06400.JPG

Used a ticket corner punch on all my panels except for the largest (bottom) panel.

dsc06401.JPG

Decided the background panels were a bit plain so I brayered on some Purple Twilight ink at the bottom right and top left corners of my Baja Breeze panel.

dsc06402.JPG

Assembled the card front and added some brads.  Here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

dsc06404.JPG

Hope this tutorial has inspired you to try brayering from a different angle to see what happens.  It may surprise you!

May your day be as relaxing as this Swan scene.

Until my next post. . . . . . .. . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Whirling Leaves of Autumn – Tutorial #133

dsc06379.JPG

Autumn, Autumn, Autumn, I love Autumn!  This past weekend had the most perfect temperatures, warm during the day, the sky was blue the nights were cool.  We had family over for a Bonfire Saturday night.  Nothing fancy, just a big pot of Chili and grilled hotdogs.  Lots of hugs and laughter.  It was perfect!

Of course, I am in the mood for Autumn, hence the tutorial today of these whirling leaves.

Let’s get started.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Inkadinkado “Fall Season” & Stampin’ Up “Lovely as a Tree”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Baja Breeze, Basic Black, Whisper White
Ink: Stampin’ Up Night of Navy, Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Old Olive, Really Rust, Basic Black
Accessories: Tim Holtz Ruler, Push Pin, Ribbon, Silver Brads, Prismacolor Metallic Silver Marker, Coluzzle Circle Template, Sponge, Versamark Pad, Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Gun

dsc06383.JPG

Stamped the leaves twice by first loading my stamp with Versamark, then loading it with Old Olive ink, used the corner of my Really Rust ink pad to add a touch of Rust on the leaves before stamping the stamp on a 3.5″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc06359.JPG

Heat embossed the images using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06360.JPG

A long time ago I cut various circles of card stock out with my Coluzzle and I keep these and use them over and over again for masks.  The card stock mask I’m using for this piece is 2″.

dsc06361.JPG

Holding my mask in place I sponge Baja Breeze ink all over the card stock using a circular motion.

Note:  The more ink you use when sponging the less blotchy your sponging will look.

dsc06362.JPG

Ripped a piece of card stock to use as a mask.

Note:  I ripped a much longer piece of card stock than I thought I would need so I can move it around and not have the same pattern each time.

dsc06363.JPG

Held my masks in place and sponged Not Quite Navy lightly at the masks edge.

dsc06364.JPG

Moved the mask and repeated.

dsc06365.JPG

I kept moving the mask and sponging Not Quite Navy until I got the look I wanted.

dsc06366.JPG

Removed the mask for the moon too.  Stamped the trees at the bottom of the card stock with Night of Navy ink.

dsc06367.JPG

Sponged Night of Navy ink around the edge of the card stock.

dsc06368.JPG

Added some trees with Black ink and sponged Black ink on the very edge of the card stock.

dsc06369.JPG

dsc06370.JPG

Over Stamped the whirling leaves with Not Quite Navy and a little off center from my original stamping of them to create a shadow.

dsc06371.JPG

dsc06372.JPG

Be careful with this step.  Wiped the Not Quite Navy ink from the embossed leaves.  If you use a swiping motion, from left to right with your rag, it will give you streaks across your moon.

dsc06373.JPG

Added Silver to the edge of my piece by holding a Prismacolor Metallic Silver marker half on the card stock and half on the scrap paper and pulling it straight down the edge.

dsc06374.JPG

Did the same thing with the Silver Marker again only on my 5″ x 6.5″ bottom panel of black card stock.

dsc06375.JPG

Added a panel of Baja Breeze card stock to the black card stock and pierced holes in the top and bottom of it with a Tim Holtz Ruler and a push pin.

dsc06376.JPG

Assembled my card front and added ribbon and brads.  Here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5.

dsc06379.JPG

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to try a different approach to getting some variation in your skies.

May your day be filled with sunshine and perfect temperatures.

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

This Weeks Framed Moody Tree Tutorial, Blog Candy and Workshop Announcement

dsc06256.JPG

Beginner Brayer Workshop Announcements:  After many requests, I have added a Dayton, Ohio beginner Brayer workshop to my calendar for November 8th at Marco Paper.   Workshops are kept small so I can spend time with each person attending.  No prior brayer experience required.  The brayer will no longer be a mystery tool after attending.  To register, please contact Marco Paper at 937-433-7030 or 1-888-733-5239 or website at http://marcopaper.com/index.html .  I also have a Beginner Brayer Workshop scheduled for October 25th Sunnyvale, CA Please call Cranberry Hill to sign up for this workshop (408) 736-9151 or  http://www.stamponover.com/ .

Now about today’s project, I’m giving this framed piece away as blog candy.  All you need to do is leave a comment on this post for me to enter you for the drawing.  If you are getting this blog update by e-mail you will need to click on this link to leave a comment on the post:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2008/10/05/this-weeks-framed-moody-tree-tutorial-blog-candy-and-workshop-announcement/

I will use a random number generator on Saturday, October 11th to select the winner.  Good luck to everyone. 🙂

Very little supplies were used to create this piece.  I even used a very common household item to create some texture in the sky (plastic wrap), check it out.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampendous “Winter Trees”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White & Basic Black
Ink: Adirondack Lake Mist, Sail Boat Blue, Aqua & Pitch Black
Accessories: Brayer, Plastic Wrap, Sponges & Re-purposed Garage Sale

dsc06262.JPG

Punched a 1 3/8 circle from the sticky part of a post it note to use as a mask for the moon.  Placed it where I wanted my moon to be on a 3 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc06244.JPG

Brayered Sail Boat Blue ink at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc06245.JPG

Brayered Aqua ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc06246.JPG

Crumpled up a piece of plastic wrap.

dsc06247.JPG

Removed the moon mask and inked up my plastic wrap with Lake Mist ink and dabbed it on the top of the card stock.

dsc06248.JPG

Dabbed on some Sail Boat Blue with the same crumpled up plastic wrap.

dsc06249.JPG

Stamped the tree with Pitch Black ink.

dsc06250.JPG

Sponged Pitch Black ink heavily on the bottom of the card stock.

dsc06251.JPG

Sponged Sail Boat Blue across the top of the card stock.  Also added some through the middle of the card stock.

dsc06252.JPG

Adhered my main image panel to a white card stock panel and then a Black card stock panel.

dsc06254.JPGPut it in a re-purposed Garage Sale Frame ($2).  I don’t normally pay more than a dollar for a frame at a garage sale, but this one is solid wood and quite heavy.

Finished piece with  the Black panel measuring 5″ x 7″.

dsc06256.JPG

Enjoy your Sunday!

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Winter Cardinal – Tutorial #124 and Blog Candy!

dsc06162.JPG

Happy Saturday!  I love the weekends when I can take my time doing a project in the morning as I drink my pot of coffee.  No rushing off to work today.

I’ve had some requests to do some winter type scenes so I got out this great set of stamps by Fire Cracker Designs by Pamela.  Here is a link if you want to check out their great online store:  http://www.safesecurestore.com/stores/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=firecrackerdesignsbypamela

For those people already making their Christmas cards, MORE POWER TO YOU!  I won’t be starting mine until November at the earliest, lol.

The frame I used in this project is one I picked up at a garage sale for 75 cents.  It had a horrible picture in it, but that’s all the better.  I didn’t feel bad throwing the picture in the trash.  I get frames and then make stamped pieces to go inside.  It’s easier to know what frame you are going to use and then cut your cardstock to fit it, instead of making the piece a certain size and trying to find a frame to fit the piece.  Clear as mud?  🙂

I’m giving this framed piece away as blog candy.  I will use a random number generator next Saturday, October 4th to select the winner.  To enter all you need to do is leave a comment on this post telling me an item you like to re-purpose.  It could be anything.  If you are getting this post update by e-mail, you will need to click this link and then leave a comment on the post:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2008/09/27/winter-cardinal-tutorial-124-and-blog-candy/

Good Luck!

Let’s get started on today’s tutorial.  🙂

Ink: Stampin’ Up Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Basic Black, Night of Navy
Accessories: Versmark Pad and marker, Fine Detail Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Brayer, Sponges, Sharpie Gold Paint Marker, Prismacolor Markers, Fine Black marker, Garage Sale Frame, Post it Notes

dsc06172.JPG

Stamped tree by first loading stamp with Versamark and then loading it with Black ink before stamping it on a piece of 4″ square Whisper White card stock.

dsc06136.JPG

Heat embossed tree using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06137.JPG

Stamped Cardinal by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then loading it with Black ink before stamping it.

dsc06138.JPG

Heat embossed the cardinal using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06139.JPG

Stamped the house in the distance by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then loading it with black ink before stamping it.

dsc06140.JPG

Heat embossed the house using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06141.JPG

Colored the Left half of the tree with a Prismacolor 10% Cool Grey marker.

dsc06142.JPG

Colored Left side of the tree using a Prismacolor 30% Cool Grey marker, but did not cover the 10% Cool Grey entirely.

dsc06143.JPG

Colored the top part of the cardinal using a Prismacolor Scarlet Lake marker.

dsc06144.JPG

Colored the cardinal’s underside and tail using a Prismacolor Crimson Red marker.

dsc06145.JPG

Colored the Cardinal’s beak using a Prismacolor Burnt Ochre marker.

dsc06146.JPG

Colored the very left side of the tree using a Prismacolor 50% Cool Grey marker, not covering the 30% Cool Grey entirely.

dsc06147.JPG

Colored over all the images with a Versmark marker, making sure not to go outside the lines.   🙂

dsc06149.JPG

Heat embossed all the images using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06150.JPG

Covered the bottom of the card stock with a post it note to mask it.

dsc06151.JPG

Brayered on Baja Breeze ink at the top of the card stock.  The embossed images will resist the brayered ink “emboss resist”.

dsc06152.JPG

Brayered on Not Quite Navy at the top of the card stock, not covering the Baja Breeze ink entirely.

dsc06153.JPG

Sponged on some mountain shapes using Not Quite Navy ink.

Note:  If putting in two mountains make one mountain much smaller than the other one so it doesn’t look like your mountains need a bra, lol.

dsc06154.JPG

Sponged on some Night of Navy ink at the top of the card stock and at the mountain bases.

dsc06155.JPG

Remove the post it note and throw it away.  Using a new post it note, rip through the sticky part of the post it note to create a hill shape.  Put in on the card stock to mask the bottom of the card stock.

dsc06156.JPG

Sponged lightly Baja Breeze ink at the post it notes torn edge.

dsc06157.JPG

Remove post it note.

dsc06158.JPG

Sponge Baja Breeze ink under the tree  and the cardinal to create a shadow for them.

dsc06159.JPG

Add a few specks of black marker around the bird.  Gotta feed the bird!

dsc06160.JPG

Held a Sharpie Gold Paint marker tip, half on the card stock and half on my scrap paper and ran down each edge of the main image panel.

Note:  Try this out before doing it on your finished panel.  🙂

dsc06161.JPG

Panels are as follows from top to bottom:  Main image panel, Baja Breeze Panel, Basic Black panel, Not Quite Navy Panel.

dsc06162.JPG

Michelle
