Strung Up Christmas – Tutorial #513

Hey There,

LOL,  I know, I know, you just never can tell what you are going to find on this blog from one day to the next.  Here it is June and I kick out a Christmas card.

Well, the thing is, I sometimes get into a creative rut.   When that happens, I take out my Stampin’ Up! catalog and challenge myself to create with a stamp set that I randomly open the catalog too.    This time I opened to the holiday section and the one brand new stamp set I have on that page is this yummy set called Chock-Full of Cheer.   So here is a little Christmas cheer in June.   Check, one Christmas card made, lol.

A little about this project, I used ripped post it notes to mask to create my snow drifts.   This creates a lot of depth in the scene.   Take another look at the project and you probably think this was done by layering paper to create the snow drifts.  Think again, the main image panel is just one sheet of Whisper White.

Here are a few Stampin’ Up Reminders before I start the project.

Check out what’s new at Stampin’ Up!  The brand new Annual Catalog has been released.   CLICK HERE TO LOOK AT THE CATALOG ONLINE. Now on with today’s tutorial. . . . .  . .

Masked the bottom inch of a 3.25″ x 7.5″ piece of Whisper White with a couple of Post it notes.

Stamped the candy canes using Cherry Cobbler ink.

Removed the post it note masks.

Ripped some post it notes and masked as you see below.   Sponged Baja Breeze ink between the two torn post it notes.  Note:  try not to get the ink on the candy cane.

Sponged Wisteria Wonder ink at the bottom of the area.  Note:  try not to get the ink on the candy cane.

Removed the top mask from the left side and moved it to the right side.  Repeated sponging the Baja Breeze ink and then followed up with Wisteria Wonder ink at the bottom.

Removed all of the post it notes and sponged Baja Breeze ink at the bottom of the card stock.   Be sure to leave some white showing at the top of the first snow drift.

Sponged Wisteria Wonder ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Using the fine tip of a Basic Black marker drew in a line for my lights.

Used the mat pack template and markers to color in circles to create the lights along my black string.  I made some in Tempting Turquoise, Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight and Old Olive.

A closer look.

Added a 8″ x 9″ piece of Baja Breeze card stock folded in half so it measures 4″ x 9″,  8.75″ x 3.75″ piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock.   Added Baja Breeze Seam Binding (double layer) to create the bow.  Add a piece of Real Red ribbon to the front bottom of the main image panel.  Adhered the main image panel to a 3.5″ x 7.75″ piece of Baja Breeze card stock and then pop them up using Stampin’ Dimensionals.     Added Dazzling Details to finish off the card and give it some wonderful sparkle.

Here is the finished card measuring 4″ x 9″.   This card fits into a 10# sized business envelope.

May you find joy in your heart no matter what time of year it is.

Until my next post. . . . .  . . .

Sunset Oak – Tutorial #511

Hey There,

Hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.   Mine was spent helping one son move, up keep on the vegetable garden, some work on wedding invites for my youngest son’s wedding that will be in August, making and canning strawberry jam and a cookout with family.   Needless to say, it was a busy but wonderful weekend.

This morning I decided to create a project using the most popular of Stampin’ Up! sets, Lovely As A Tree.  That is in my opinion anyway.

Tree sets are so very easy to use and your creations can be either for a male or female.  Trees are unisex, correct?

Oh yeah, if you want to see how very much my chicks have grown since last week (they have doubled their size), you can see them at the bottom of this post.  🙂

Reminders before I start the tutorial:

You can join my Stampin’ Up! team and become a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator now for the great new price of $99, CLICK HERE TO CHECK IT OUT.

Today and tomorrow (May 30-31, 2012) is the last chance to get some of the retired sets and accessories from Stampin’ Up!

. . .  . Check out what’s going, going, going by clicking here.

Check it out!  Along with a handmade thank you card from me for your order you will receive a token for each $50 in product you ordered using me as your demonstrator.  After you have collected 10 tokens you will receive a free current stamp set of your choosing, a value of $39 or less.   Here is a link to my online shopping page that you can shop at 24/7 (from the comfort of your home, even in your pj’s) and the products will be shipped directly to your door step from Stampin’ Up:   CLICK HERE TO SHOP.   My free stamp set program will be an on going program.  :)

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Cherry Cobber, Daffodil Delight and Cajun Craze

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponges, 2.5″ Circle Punch, Post it note, gold brads, Brayer, Daffodil Delight and Sahara Sand Markers, Gold Metallic Marker

Punched a 2.5″ Circle from a Post it note and used it as mask for the sun on a 3.5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock.

Brayered Cherry Cobbler ink all over the card stock.

Removed the sun mask and sponged Daffodil Delight ink in the sun.

Sponged Cajun Craze ink around the edge of the sun.

Stamped the Oak Tree using Basic Black ink.

Sponged Basic Black ink in for the ground.  The ink is darker at the top of the ground and very light at the bottom of the ground.

Colored in the trunk of the tree using a Sahara Sand marker.

Colored in the middle of the tree using a Daffodil Delight marker.  The marker will mix with a bit of the Basic Black from the tree and create a warm gray tone.

Edge the main image panel and a 2.5″ x 6.5″ piece of Basic Black card stock using a Gold Metallic Marker.

Added a Cajun Craze card base 6.5″ x 10″ folded in half, a 3 5/8″ Whisper White square, 3.75″ Basic Black Square, 4 Gold Brads and popped the main image panel up using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Before I close, here is a little update on the chicks.  In just a weeks time they have doubled their size and now have feathers sprouting out.    We did a little photo shoot of them hanging out on my desk.

My girls all have names now.  From top left to bottom right here are their names:    Red, Buffy, Sophie and Bunny.   Yep, we are weird and so our chicks have weird names, lol.  They are all different breeds, top left to bottom right here are their breeds:  Speckled Sussex,  Buff Orpington, Black Australorp and Ameraucana.

They love to sit on my shoulder, lap or just take a nap in my hand.  They are super cute!  They live in a big plastic container with their light keeping them at a steady temperature in my living room for another 3 weeks.   I see these little ladies growing up fast and will be sad to put them outside in the coop when the time comes.  Or on the other hand, they will be quite big if they keep growing at this rate and will desperately need to be up out in the coop.

Have the best day ever!  Cheep, cheep!

Until my next post. . . . .  . . .

Watercolored Butterfly – Tutorial #510

Okay, so I had to drag myself away from this,

and this

and two other fuzz balls in order to go stamp.  Whew, that was tough!  I swear I could just sit and watch my little chicks play all day.  Now my dog Lucas just isn’t feeling it.  When I go over to the chick’s brooder, he just lays down with the biggest huff.  I’m sure he is thinking “here we go again with Mommy making little chickie googoo noises.”   Well, can you blame me?

I had some inquiries yesterday asking what breed of chicks I got.  Well I picked 4 different breeds, Speckled Sussex, Buff Orpington, Ameraucana, Black Austrolorp.    The chicks above are (right) Speckled Sussex and (left) Black Austrolorp.  The other 2 chicks were napping during the photo shoot so I left them alone.  I’m a good Mommy, lol.

I know, I know, get to the stamping already, lol.

For today’s project, I felt like water coloring so I grabbed my Aqua Painter and went to work or play as in my case, grin.  Stamping can never be work!

I didn’t pull out the watercolor paper, I just kept my Aqua Painter on the drier side and worked on DSP, Designer Series Paper.

Reminders before I start the tutorial:

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Island Indigo, Lucky Limeade and Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper, First Edition

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Island Indigo, So Saffron, Not Quite Navy, Cherry Cobbler, Always Artichoke, Lucky Limeade and a Jet Black Stazon Pad

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Sponges, Aqua Painter, White Gel Pen, 1/4″ Circle Punch, Inland Indigo Ribbon, Basic Black Marker, Stampin’ Dimensionals and a Post it Note.

Okay, here we go. . . . . . .

Stamped the plant 3 times at different heights using Stazon Jet Black ink on a 2.75″ x 5″ piece of Designer Series Paper.  I selected this ink because it does not run when using it with a watercolor method.

Stamped the butterfly so it’s feet are touching the tallest flower using the Stazon Jet Black ink.

With my So Saffron Ink pad closed, I pressed on the back and front of the ink pad in order to get ink to transfer to the lid of the ink pad.  I used this pool of ink and an Aqua Painter to water color the leaves of the plants in.

Using the same watercolor method as the last step, colored the bottom of the leaves with Lucky Limeade.  Sorry, about the fuzzy photos.

Water colored the ground in using Lucky Limeade ink.

Water colored Always Artichoke ink at the very bottom of the paper.

Water colored the flowers by dotting the Cherry Cobbler ink on them.

Water colored the butterfly using Island Indigo ink.

Colored in the butterfly’s body using a Basic Black marker.

Colored the dots and tips of the wings in using a White Gel Pen.

Masked the sun using a 1/4″ circle punched from a post it note.

Sponged So Saffon ink over the sun mask.

Removed the sun mask.

Now that my butterfly is dry I water colored a little Not Quite Navy ink on the wings in the darkest areas.

Added a 5″ x 6.5″ panel of Island Indigo, a 4.75″ x 6.25″ panel of Lucky Limeade with Island Indigo ink sponged around the edges and a 2 7.8″ x 5 1/8″ panel of Island Indigo.

Added Island Indigo Ruffled Ribbon and here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May your day be and extra, extra special one.

Brayered So Saffron ink on a 5.75″ x 3.25″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Smeared a Crumb Cake ink pad from the bottom towards the top.

Brayered Cajun Craze ink at the top of the card stock.

Loaded the tree stamp with Old Olive ink and then colored some of the top leaves with Always Artichoke marker and the trunk with Early Espresso marker before stamping it on the card stock.  I used a post it note to stamp the bottom of the tree trunk on.  That way I would not have the part of the tree trunk on the card stock that flares out at the bottom.  Makes it easier to extend the trunk to the bottom of the card stock to make the tree taller.

Extended the tree trunk to the bottom of the card stock using an Early Espresso marker and also added some Wisteria type flowers on the tree using a White gel pen.

Dragged the Old Olive pad from the bottom of the card stock toward the top to create grass.

Cut some a bit of the top of the card stock off and rounded the bottom corners of the top piece and the top corners of the bottom piece using the corner rounder.

Held the two pieces of card stock together and punched a 3/8″ circle punch in the middle of them.

Also used the 3/8″ circle punch on Cajun Craze card stock.  Then lined the holes up in the middle of a 1/2″ circle punch and punched them out.

Glued them on the card stock over the holes.

Layered a 5″ x 6.5″ Old Olive card stock panel, 4.75″ x 6.25″ Early Espresso panel and a 4.5″ x 6″ piece of Stampin’ Up! Old Olive DSP.   Adhered the top and bottom of the main image panel on the card stock using Sticky Strip.  I did not adhere the areas of the main image panel that have the circles punch in them.

Pierced holes around the main image panels using the mat pack and piercing tool.

Drew White Gel Pen lines from one hole to the next to create faux stitching.

Added Lucky Limeade Baker’s Twine through the circle holes.

Added White Gel pen grasses around the tree trunk.

Stamped the sentiment on the right side of the card three times using Basic Black ink and a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″

May your day be one of pure delight.

Until my next post. . . . .  . . .

Turned the paper and made White Gel Pen lines across every other line 1/2″ apart.   Although not pictured here, I made an “L” shape at the bottom of each brick using a Crumb Cake marker.  (See finished project)  Oops!  sorry missed the shot.

Covered up the bricks with a post it note and sponged Early Espresso ink on the unmasked area.

Die Cut the 3rd largest Framelit using the Big Shot Machine and Whisper White Card stock.

Brayered So Saffron ink all over the Whisper White Card stock.

Brayered Cajun Craze on the top 2/3rds of the card stock.

Brayered Cherry Cobbler ink at the top of the card stock.

Ink up just the branch on the Up in The Air stamp using Stazon Black ink and stamped it at the top of the card stock.  Inked up the branch and the bird house stamped it below the first stamping and over to the right just a bit.

Colored all of the flowers in using a White Gel Pen.

Colored the leaves in using an Old Olive marker.

Sponged a little bit of Old Olive at the bottom of the card stock to indicate a bit of ground.  You don’t want to get to dark with this otherwise your bird house will look like it is hanging really low.

Added 2 Old Olive panels, 1 Cajun Craze panel and 1 Basic Black panel.  Punched the corners of the Basic Black panel using the Scallop Trim Corner Punch (Item number 118870).

Adhered my panels together and punched 2 circles using the 3/8″ circle punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (Item number 118309).  Adhered the circles to the main image panel.

Added an Old Olive brad to the center of each Basic Black circle.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ square.  🙂

May your day bring a smile to your face.

Until my next post. . . . .  . . .

Going Vintage – Tutorial #485

Well Hello There,

Whew!  I had been put down completely by a respiratory virus.  Nasty illness that was.  Took two rounds of antibiotics to start feeling human again.   If you come down with it, run, don’t walk to your doctor.  Believe me you will not shake it without medication.   Any how, I am back and ready to stamp and create.  Feels so very good to be back in my office.   Funny how we take these things for granted until we can’t do them.

Cut a 3.75″ circle from Whisper White card stock using the Big Shot Machine and Clear Circle Die.

Brayered Daffodil Delight ink on 3/4 of the card stock.

Brayered Calypso Coral ink over the Daffodil Delight ink without covering it completely.

Brayered Pool Party ink at the top of the card stock.

Colored just the kids on the bike using a Basic Black marker and then huffed on the stamp and stamped it on the card stock.

Sponged Lucky Limeade ink at the bottom of the card stock up to the bike.

Stamped the Take it to Heart flower stamp using Basic Black ink.

Sponged Basic Black ink around the main image panel edge.

Cut a 5″ x 6.5″ piece of Pool Party card stock and sponged Basic Black ink around the edges.

Added two panel of Everyday Enchantment Stampin’ Up! Designer Series paper.   One 4.50″ x 6″ and one 4″ x 5.5″.

Using the Mat Pack, added Pierced holes around the edge of the center panel.

Drew a line from one pierced hole to the next using a Basic Black marker to create faux stitching.

Stamped the small heart using Basic Black ink 4 times on Whisper White card stock and cut them out.  Adhered them to the corners of the faux stitching.    Added Basic Black ribbon and two Everyday Enchantment brads.

A little note:  When I plan on using designer series paper (DSP) in a project, I pick the paper out first and then pull my scene colors out of the paper.  🙂  Makes for much easier matching.

May your day be filled fun and laughter.

Added torn post it notes to mask for the hill and path.

Sponged Cajun Craze in the hill.

Sponged Chocolate Chip ink at the top of the hill and along the edge of the path.

Removed the post it note masks and drew a fine line across the top of the path using a Chocolate Chip marker.

Masked along the top of the hill using a post it note and then stamped the tree from the Thoughts & Prayers stamp set, item number 113252, using Basic Black ink.

Removed the mask and stamp the flowers from the Just Believe set, item number 116948, using Basic Black ink.

Just Swinging – Tutorial #482

Hey There,

I’m knee deep in packing for my trip to LAS VEGAS BABY!    I leave Friday, I hope Las Vegas is ready for me. . . .   I’m super excited about this trip since Las Vegas is one of the places I haven’t made it to yet in the whirl wind traveling career I have.   Not to mention, I get to teach some awesome stampers how to brayer and create using some other technique tricks I have up my sleeve.

I needed a bit of a break from packing so I sat down and created this project for your enjoyment, please give it a try.  It features the sweet set Forever Young.  This stamp goes with brayering especially well.

Let’s get started. . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Forever Young

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Basic Black, Old Olive, Peach Parfait and Stampin’ Up Designer Series Paper “Paisley Petals”

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Cajun Craze

Accessories: Stampin’ Up!  Sponges, Basic Black brads, Big shot Machine, 3.75″ circle Die, White Gel Pen, Brayer and Heart Punch

Want a free copy of the current Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog?  Just e-mail your address to mzindorf@aim.com and I will get one right out to you.  Get your copy of the 2011-2012 Stampin’ Up! Die cut a 3.75″ circle using the Big Shot Machine and Whisper White card stock.

brayered Daffodil Delight ink on one side of the card stock.

Brayered Pumpkin Pie ink on the other side of the card stock.   I don’t show it here, but I brayered a little Cajun Craze at the bottom of the Pumpkin Pie side.

Stamped the image using Basic Black ink.

Sponged Old Olive ink at the bottom of the card stock.  Make sure you image is dry before doing this step or you will risk smearing the black ink, not pretty.

Sponged Basic Black ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Old Olive ink entirely.

Added White Gel Pen highlights to the tree and also added a bit of grasses.

Added a 5.25″ square Basic Black panel, 5″ square Design Series Paper Panel, 4 3/8″ square Peach Parfait panel, (2) 2″ x 4 1/8 Basic Black panels, 4 small Peach Parfait Punches, 2 Black and 2 Old Olive Large hearts.

Added 2 Basic Black brads.
