Working on a non porous surface, put a little Soft Suede Re-inker on in a line, dip the edge of a credit card, or in my case my Subway card, lol, in the ink and then drag it from the top down the card stock.  Keep applying the ink until you get the look you want.  I like to leave a bit of my card stock showing through.   (You can also turn the card stock and work from the bottom edge up to fill the card stock in).

Using a ruler and lining things up with my grid pad below my card stock, made lines from the top of the card stock to the bottom every 3/4″.   Next made lines about 2″ from the top across every other section.   Moved the ruler down and and made a line across the sections I did not do above.

Added dots to simulate nail holes.

Sponged Basic Black ink around the edges to distress it.

Stamped the stocking with Pool Party and with Pear Pizzazz on a scrap piece of Whisper White card stock.

Punched the stockings out.  If you look from the bottom of the punch it is super easy to line things up.  🙂

Stamped the toe, heel and band using Pear Pizzazz and Pool Party on Whisper White card stock.  Punch the images out.

Assembled my stockings.

Stamped the Stampin’ Up! Many Merry Messages using Whisper White ink.

Added mini brads, Ribbon and a Stampin’ Dimensional under the toe of the stockings for some lift.

My sentiment wasn’t popping enough so I traced it using a White Gel pen.  Yep, now it pops!

Added 2 Pear Pizzazz layers and a Pool Party layer.  Also added Russ and my name using an Early Espresso marker.

Here is the finished card  measuring 5.25″ square.

May your day be filled with the spirit of the holidays.

Until my next post. . . . .

Punched a 1 3/4″ circle punch from a post it note and used it as a mask for the moon.   Put the mask on a 2.5″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.  Added a post it note mask that has a bit of the sticky edge torn off of it.

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Pacific Point ink at the top of the card stock.

Removed the masks and put them aside for another step.

Mask the top of the card stock and 1/2″ of the white snow with a post it note.  Brayered Baja Breeze ink at on the unmask area.

Removed the post it note mask and put the other 2 mask back on to create the reflection side.   Put the torn post it note 1/2″ below the white area and the moon mask on to make the reflection of the moon.  Brayered more Baja Breeze ink on.

Brayered Pacific Point at the top of the area.

Removed all of the masks.  Stamped the fox using Basic Black ink at the top of the card stock.   Stamped the fox using Basic Black ink on my Stamp-a-ma-jig plastic sheet (slick side).  Flipped the plastic sheet over and lined up the reflection of the fox.  Rolled my brayer over the plastic sheet to transfer the image.

Colored the Cajun Craze marker on the plastic sheet and used a blender pen dipped in the Cajun Craze to color the fox and his reflection in.

Remember to be lighter in color on the reflection side.

Added Cajun Craze marker directly to the image in the dark areas and then used the blender pen to blend the color in.

Added Old Olive marker to the top fox’s present and scarf.   Used the Blender Pen and color I scribbled on the plastic sheet to color in the reflection side.

Added More Mustard marker to the Fox’s scarf and the blender pen to color in the reflection side.

Added White Gel pen to make water lines in the bottom of the scene.  Also colored in the top fox’s belly where it has some blue from the sky showing through.

Punch 3 Stampin’ Up! snowflakes out of Whisper White.

Used the Northern Flurry embossing folder and Big Shot Machine to emboss my Baja Breeze panel.  I love to emboss a panel on my cards to give that texture without adding weight.

Here are the measurements for the panels.  🙂

Sponged Pacific Point ink around the edges of the Baja Breeze Panel.

Assembled the card front slipping one of the snowflakes under the Whisper White panel.   Added Rhinestones to the center of each snowflake.

It’s hard to see in this photo, but I added Dazzling Details to the top half of the snow.  Love the way this sparkles.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May you be warm

Winter Post – Tutorial #470

Hi There,

Well life is getting back to normal now that Russ’ ticker is ticking correctly.  🙂  Whew!

Anyhow, my Sis, Sonja is here visiting from Colorado and has been on a mission creating cards.   She doesn’t stamp much at her home but when she visits me she likes to take full advantage of my stamp room, grin.   It’s always fun seeing your obsession through someone else’s eyes.   Makes me realize how blessed I am to have all the crafting supplies that I have.  And yes, you really realize what an abundance of stuff you collect.   The one with the most stamps at the end wins, right?

Since my Sis wants to hang out in my stamp room I decided to start making my Christmas cards.   I’m not one to crank out 150 cards of one design.  Mass production is definitely not my thing.    So today’s tutorial is one of many Christmas card designs that I will be sending out personally to friends and family.  This one comes together very quickly.   I hope you enjoy the tutorial below, as much as I enjoyed making it.

Please have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving week!

Now on with the tutorial. . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps:  Stampin’ Up! I (heart) Hearts

Card stock:  Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black and Whisper White

Ink:  Stazon Jet Black

Accessories:  Stampin’ Up! heart punches, Rhinestones, Micron markers 01 & 08, number 2B pencil

Want a free copy of the brand new Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini Catalog?  Just e-mail your address and I will get one right out to you.  Get your copy of the new 2011-2012 Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalog by sending $9.95 to me at P.O. box 116, West Alexandria, Ohio 45381 or via paypal to mzindorf@aim.com, shipping is free.      Are you getting inspiration from this blog?   One way you can help support it is to order your Stampin’ Up products through me.   Click HEREto place an order and have your ordered delivered directly to your door step from Stampin’ Up!    Want to become a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator , receive a 20% discount on product and earn instant income on orders?  Consider being part of my Stampin’ Up Team and start your own business or become a Hobby Demo just for the discount.  Click HERE for more information.

A little about how you start a Zentangle.   Take a 3.5″ Whisper White card stock square and with a pencil put a dot in each corner.

Loosely draw a line from one dot to the next.

Imagine that you dropped a string on the card stock.  Now draw a string.  This could be an “X”  going across the card stock or any shape for that matter.   My string below has a simple loop.   You would then proceed to put a different tangle pattern in each section on the card stock using a black marker.

Okay, got that?  Clear as mud?

Now here is how I start my Stamp Tangle.

Stamped the heart from the Stampin’ Up! stamp set I (heart) Hearts using Stazon Jet Black ink in the middle of a 3.5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock.   I put a dot in each corner with a pencil.  Loosely drew a line from one dot to the next.   Added 2 strings with simple loops.  When I drew my strings I skipped over the heart so it would empty.  Now I’m ready to start tangling in each section.

I like to work with a 01 Micron Black marker to make my tangle patterns and an 08 Micron Black marker to fill in areas and to clean the edges up of my design.  The 08 has a much larger point then the 01 which has a very small point.

I like to outline the section that I am concentrating on.

Let me tell you there are a million tangle patterns that you can use.  Also keep in mind that you can leave a section plank or only partically fill it in.  Anything goes here.

I started by putting a small tear drop in the loop and then added 3 more using the 01.

Added circles in 2 of the sections.

Added lines in one of the sections having them skip over the loop.

Added lines going the other direction, skipping over the loop.

Added 3 crescent shapes in another section.  Inside of the crescents, colored in a small crescent and then filled in the background around the crescents using the 08 marker.  Also filled in 2 sections in the loop.

Filled in the other small loop with 2 circles and a dot.

Outlined the large section at the top.

Colored in the middle section using the 08.

Repeated the tangle crisscross pattern that I use in the large section at the bottom of the card stock in the large section at the top of the card stock.

When I put in shading I like to use a 2B pencil.  The 2B stands for the softness/hardness of the lead of the pencil.   You probably remember having to have a #2 pencil in school right?   There is a range of hardness-es in art pencils.

I want my heart to stand out so I am going to put shading around the outside of the heart so the background looks like it is receding.

I want to give my heart some shape so I am shading the top of the heart.  To smooth out the shading I am going to use a paper stub to rub it.  This will smooth the shading so it doesn’t look as scratchy.

Added shading to recede the upper background.

Smoothed it out.  See the difference?

Added shading to the bottom of the crescents and around the circles in the loop so the circles stand out more.

Added shading to the right side and the bottom of my piece.   Also added my initials.  🙂  Don’t even ask me what the “L” stands for, lol.

Cut 2 Basic Black card stock layers and 2 Cherry Cobbler card stock layers.  The measurments are in the photo.  🙂

Using Stampin’ Up! heart punches, punched 2 large Cherry Cobbler hearts and 2 small Basic Black hearts.

Assembled my card front.

Added some bling.  Do you believe it!!!  Me using Bling!  Feel my forehead and I running a fever or what!

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.   Now these stamp tangles can be any size or shape.   I’m keeping it simple for the tutorial.  🙂

I hope you enjoyed this venture into the world of stamp tangling.   I love it.  I cut multiple 3.5″ square pieces of card stock.  Stamp a different image on each one and have them in my purse with my 2 markers and my pencil and that is all I need to stamp tangle anywhere I go.   I find myself stamp tangling in restaurants, doctors offices or wherever I am that I have a few moments.  It’s also a nice thing to do in the evening when your family is watching TV.   You can be in the same room doing your own thing, lol.

Just know that you can add color to your stamp tangles.  🙂  Go ahead and go for it!

Do a google search for tangle patterns and you will be amazed at the number of tangle patterns out there.  I used just a couple very basic patterns in today’s project.

Also, don’t forget the therapeutic feeling you get from this process.   While I am stamp tangling my mind does not race.  I find myself in the moment and very relaxed.  Give it a try!

May your day be filled with exciting new adventures.

Until my next post. . . . .

Autumn Leaf Stamp Tangle

Hi There,

I’m busy packing for my next travel location.  I will be heading to Lincoln, Illinois to teach my brayer techniques to some fabulous students, woohooo!  I love an adventure, don’t you?

Before I leave I wanted to pose a question for you.  Do you know what Zentangle is?    Zentangle is something I find myself doing when I’m a bit stressed or just want to calm my mind.  Zentangle is a relaxing process that turns drawing simple patterns into artistic design.  Plus you get the mental health benefits, love that.   Here is a link to the Zentangle Creator’s website if you would like more info on Zentangling, CLICK HERE.

Now, you know how much I love rubber stamping and I’m guessing that you do too if you are reading my blog.   Well I have been playing around with using stamping in the Zentangle process.  I call it Stamp Tangle.

Would you like to know how this is done?  Maybe see some tutorials?  If so, let me hear from you in my comment section below.  If you are getting this via e-mail and want to comment, please CLICK HERE  and then leave a comment at the bottom of the actual blog post.

If there is some interest I will create some Stamp Tangle things to share with you on this blog.

It’s a wonderful process.  I think you will love it.

May you have an inner peace filled weekend.

Until my next post. . . . .

Punched a 3/4″ circle from the sticky part of a post it note to use as a mask for my moon.   Put the moon up in the right hand corner of a 3.5″ x 6.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered So Saffron ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Removed the moon mask and drew in a few squiggle lines with the brush end of a Wild Wasabi marker.

Stamped the leaf from the Stampin’ Up! set Summer Solstice using Wild Wasabi ink.

Colored the bottom of the leaves using a Pear Pizzazz marker.

Colored the rest of the leaves in with a So Saffron Marker.

Added an Old Olive marker line at the bottom of the leaves and a line down the left side of the vines.

Added white gel pen to the leaves for highlights.

Stamped the bird from the Stampin’ Up! set Language of Friendship using Stazon Jet Black ink.

Colored bird and wing in with a So Saffron Marker.

Added Riding Hood Red and then quickly colored over the bird using the So Saffron Marker to blend.

Did the same to the wing and also added a bit of Soft Suede marker to the bottom of the bird and wing, beak and dark area on the face.  Blended again with the So Saffron marker.

Cut out the bird and wing.

Added Basic Black marker to the very bottom of the bird and wing.

Assembled together a 5″ x 6.5″ Old Olive Panel, a 6.5″ x 4″ Bashful Blue Panel, the main image panel and the bird parts.  I then used the Scallop Trim Border Punch on the Old Olive Panel.

Added a 5″ x 6.5″ Bashful Blue panel and here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May your day be filled with sweet, sweet surprises.

Until my next post. . . .  . . .

Autumn Thoughts – Tutorial #464

Hey There,

Happy Halloween!   I hope you are enjoying your Autumn Season.

I’ve been hanging out cooking and filling my freezer with freezer meals.  I put over 50 meals in the freezer in the past few days.  It is now well stocked and all Russ and I have to do is pull something out and bake it or put it in the crock pot.  All the real work is done.  Feels good having so much done and saving money in the long run because we were able to buy in bulk, grin.

A little about today’s project.  The Stampin’ Up! Thoughts & Prayers Tree is so lovely.  Don’t you think it is a beautiful image?  LOL, of course I haven’t met a tree stamp that I didn’t like.  If you read this blog regularly, you know that already.

This tutorial is all about layering the moutains and highlights.  Hang out and check it out.

Bird in the Window – Tutorial #460

Hey There,

Happy Tuesday!

As I was looking through my stamps today I got the wild idea to put the Stampin’ Up! Language of Friendship bird in to the Stampin’ Up! Nature’s Nest and lookie there, it fits!   I know the nest has eggs in it, but the bird covers them up nicely.    Also, the Stampin’ Up! Season of Friendship Tree sideways is a great branch for the two to sit on.

I did pull out my Watercolor Wonder Crayons to get a soft look to the nest and the bird.  Ever colored with markers and found them to be too bright or bold.  Well the Watercolor Wonder Crayons blend beautifully and you can rub them in with your finger to give them a softer look.  Hang out a moment and check this tutorial out.

Cut a 5″ x 6.5″ Early Espresso Panel, 4.75″ x 6.25″ Stampin’ Up! Spice Cake Designer Series Paper panel, 5 5/8″ x 4 1/8″ Sahara Sand card stock panel, 5″ x 4″ Whisper White Panel, 3 1/8″ x 4 5/8″ Sahara Sand Panel.

Glued the main image panel on the Sahara Sand panel, on the Whisper White panel and then on the other Sahara Sand panel off setting as show to create the window.

Add the next two panels and used a ruler and Sahara Sand marker (fine point end) and drew a line at each window corner.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May your day be totally magical.
