A Small Glimpse Into My World

dsc02300.JPG

Oh, it’s not fancy, but it’s functional, lol.   This is a glimpse of my desk in my craft room.  I call it the craft room because I have many hobbies.   Can you tell I like to have my coloring tools very, very near me when I’m working.  Prismacolor Pencils on left in a bucket, ink pads straight ahead, markers to the right.

Today I thought I would just show you how I have my Prismacolor markers organized.  I just bought this set off of e-bay for a very good price.  Set of 156 markers for $225.  They didn’t come with the rack to put them in, but that’s ok.  I had my son make me a cubby hole set up, which works wonderfully.

dsc02298.JPG

So now I have all of my markers in one place.  Each cubby hole for the Prismacolor markers has a tag at the top telling the number range for the markers in that particular cubby.  Makes finding a marker much easier.

Now, if you know me, you know I’m a visual person.  So I cataloged each marker, so I can quickly find a color.

I just printed out a list of the Prismacolor marker numbers and colored a stripe of that color next to it.

Hope this glimpse didn’t scare anyone.  Like I said, not fancy, but functional!

Hope your day is bright with color.

Isn’t it interesting how everyone sets up the working area. I keep all my markers, pens etc on my desk. But unlike you I have my different sets ordered by shade, all the blues together, going into the greens, yellows, oranges reds etc. I find that way it’s easier for me to choose the different tones I might want to use for shading. My ink pads are in pull out draws directly to the right of the chair. These are sorted by make only. I wonder how everyone else sets their working area up?

Your desk is very neat and organized. It looks great! I wish mine was more organized. I use the same binder system for my markers. It saves a lot of time when trying to choose the right colors. TFS Michelle.

Love your area! I like how you have all of your ink and markers right there at your fingertips. My desk looks out a big window, which is nice, but I also lose a lot of precious real estate. Thanks for sharing your ideas. I love the idea of the color sheets for your markers. I saw that on Trudee’s blog too, and I must do the same. Thanks for giving me a second nudge towards my next organizing task.

Love your notebook with the chart of prismacolors. Did you create this or did you find a download to print somewhere on the net? Thanks for sharing, Eileen

  8. Shanna asked “What kind of ink do you use with your Prismacolor markers?”
Shanna, I use a Palette Hybrid Inkpad in Noir Black. I also heat set it first with a heat gun. 🙂

I have found all of the pics of peoples craft areas have helped me organize my own small space. I do my stuff on the computer desk, like to have the tutorials and ideas close at hand and I am very thankful to you for all you do for us ‘stampers’. You explain things so very well, I am learning everyday!
    Cheers

  13. Your work area is quite impressive. I just need the time to do it. I have to agree with Chris, I would divide the markers up by color. Just today I was looking through all my pencils saying, “Where is that grey pencil?”, LOL.

Okay now we know your system for markers, pencils and inks. How do you store your stamps? Do you catalog them similar to your markers? Do you keep a locator number or something similar so you know just where each set is?

I keep a notebook with each set, and each individual stamp, by numbers. Also copies of either the stamp back sheet (before mounting them on SU stamps) or I stamp the images;s and a locator number (File cab number, 1,2,3 etc; drawer number, A,B,C etc).

I also have a paper catalog for my cardstock and dp’s. I can then page through the pictures of stamps an decide on what I might use for art, then through my paper catalog for colors……..Help when I’m blocked.

I also buy Cardstock, ink pad, reinker, and marker all at the same time so I have complete sets of colors. Sometimes I also add ribbon to the mix. Ribbons are still helter skelter — that’s my next organizing project.

Thanks for sharing all this. I actually followed a link to your post of today (April 8th), so I saw the shoe holder for the punches before I saw this post. I love that idea, I am going to use that one.

And I thought that your SU ink pads were in a unit custom made for you! Although it does not have a specific slot for each pad, like the SU rotating cartridge, if I make it from wood I already have in my basement, it will be a LOT cheaper!! Right now they are all just in the boxes that they came in, and they like to cascade out from time to time!

Oh my goodness. I have been thinking about putting my color markers together by color and not by maker. Now I think I just might do it. Thank you for sharing your work area with us.

I catalog my markers in a similar way. I separate them by watercolor (ones you can color stamps with) and permanent ones (since I accidently used a permanent one on a rubber stamp once and it doesn’t come off) I also copy off the catalog sheet and keep inventory of ink pads, refills, markers etc by specific colors.

Love your prismacolor chart! I don’t have quite as many as you do, but I did something similar on card stock so when I go to buy a new color that I need I have something to compare it to. I love these markers, they really made a difference in the quality of my artwork! What a nice work area, mine is very small and shared by the entire family, but I have a great view which inspires me everyday! Thanks for sharing!
