Pumpkins by the Lake – Tutorial #117 and Blog Candy

dsc05950.JPG

This set “All Hallow’s Eve” by Inkadinkado was still out on my desk from Yesterday’s piece so I gave it another go.  This time throwing a purple cast on the pumpkins and using a teal color and purple together, which I love by the way.

I’m also going to give this card away as blog candy.  I’ll use a random number generator on Saturday, September 13th to select the winner.  To enter to win this card, please leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite color combination to use in fall creations.  If you are getting this blog update by e-mail you will need to click this link to leave a comment on this post:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2008/09/10/pumpkins-by-the-lake-tutorial-117-and-blog-candy/

One more thing, I have scheduled an Advanced brayer workshop in Dayton, Ohio on November 1st.  For more info on my Beginner and advanced Brayer workshops, please check out this link:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/workshop-calendar/

Let’s get started on the tutorial.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Inkadinkado “All Hallow’s Eve” & Stampin’ Up “Baroque Motifs”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise, Black & Elegant Eggplant
Ink: Adirondack Eggplant, Black, Stream, Hazelnut, Purple Twilight, Aqua
Accessories: Versamark marker & pad, Prismacolor markers, Sponges, White gel pen, black marker, Brayer, Fine detail clear embossing powder, heat gun, photo corner punch

dsc05951.JPG

Stamped the Pumpkins on Whisper White card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then Black ink before stamping the image.

Note:  I started out with a much too large piece of card stock.  I later cut this down to measure 3.5″ x 3.5″.

dsc05924.JPG

Heat emboss the image using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05925.JPG

Colored some Prismacolor Violet Mist marker on the pumpkins.

dsc05926.JPG

Colored over the pumpkins with Wheat.

dsc05927.JPG

Colored some Yellow Orange marker on the pumpkins.

dsc05928.JPG

Went over the entire image with the Wheat marker to blend the colors together a bit.

dsc05929.JPG

Used the Violet Mist marker again at the bottom and top of the pumpkins to darken.

dsc05930.JPG

Colored over the entire image with a Versamark marker.

dsc05931.JPG

Heat embossed using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05932.JPG

Cropped my paper down to 3.5″ x 3.5″.

I also made a few dots with a Versamark marker in the sky area of the card stock and then heat embossed them using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  You won’t be able to see them until the next step.

dsc05933.JPG

Brayered on Aqua ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc05936.JPG

Brayered on Purple Twilight ink at the top of the card stock, but not covering the Aqua ink entirely.

dsc05937.JPG

Sponged Hazelnut ink on in a swiping motion going from left to right.

dsc05938.JPG

Sponged on Stream ink in a swiping motion going from right to left.

dsc05939.JPG

Sponged on some Black ink to the left of the pumpkins and under them.

dsc05940.JPG

Sponged Eggplant ink around the edge of the card stock.

dsc05941.JPG

Added to layers to the card front and adhered them together.  Stamp Flourish with Black ink.  Note:  I have a gap in my design since I stamped over multiple layers of card stock.  When doing this step make sure you have a marker that matches the color of ink you stamped in so you can fill in the gaps.

dsc05942.JPG

Filled in the gaps of the flourish with a black marker.

dsc05943.JPG

Sponged Eggplant ink at the left and bottom of the Eggplant card stock.

dsc05944.JPG

Added a bottom layer, corner punches and brads.

dsc05945.JPG

Added White Gel pen to the right side of some of the flourishes to make them stamp out more.

dsc05946.JPG

Here you have it the finished card measuring 5.25″ x 5.25″.

dsc05950.JPG

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to create a scene that is a little out of the ordinary.

May your day be filled with joy & love!

Until my next post. . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Love the addition of turquoise. I have learned so much from you’re tutorials. Thanks for teaching us. Greens, golden yellows, and reds to rust…these are the colors of the trees in my area…thus my favorite fall colors.

I’m a newcomer to your work and this is just my third email tutorial. I’m going to have to get used to picking my jaw up from the floor. That’s been my reaction every time! Your way with color is inspired. And inspiring.

It is hard to pick just two favorite Autumn colors cuz I love them all! I really like the colors in this card. I guess my two favorites would be Olive and Rust.

Oh wow looking at your work is spectacular. I love SU More than Mustard and Really Rust but I like to throw Burgandy and Black in as well. Fall/Autumn is my favorite time of the year and the colors are magnificent aren’t they? I love watching the leaves turn.

Your cards are gorgeous, always looking forward to your tutorials. As far as my favorite fall colors they would be traditional colors ~ orange, green, brown and red. However for Halloween I love green, orange, purple and black and now I’m adding teals/turquoise to the mix.

Another fantastic card, Michelle! I can’t resist different shades of brown, orange, and red for fall crafts.

My kids and I like to take a drive in the fall and look at all the turning leaves. One day two years ago we were in the car on our way shopping and my son shouted, “Mom, look at all the broccoli!” From a distance the colorful bunches of trees looked like bunches of broccoli to him…although I’d hate for him to eat broccoli that’s a color other than green! Now in the fall I ask my kids if they’re ready for some broccoli and they just what I mean. Autumn is a great time of year. 🙂

    Have a stampin’ great day!

Just got back from Michaels…I have this set in my hot little hands. I got it based on Yesterday’s card…Now you’ve given me another reason to be happy I got it…
My favorite Fall colors are traditional…The minute it starts to feel “fallish” I move towards browns, cooper, oranges, rusts, golds, reds. But my all the time favorites are aquas, teals, blues blueish greens…I am drawn to the colors in this card.

I love the colors of Eggplant and Hazelnut, along with different hughes of oranges.
Throw alittle bit of twighlight blue and dark blue for the evening sunset.

My friend Peggy has turned me on to your website and I must say, for a new beginner in the stamping world, I totally enjoy what you are doing. Most importantly how to do it and the tools needed.

    Thank you once again,

    Happy Stamping!!!!

I love the earth elements colors for fall from Stampin Up, they are all the perfect shades I think.

Wow ! You gave me a new perspective on fall. I love the SU pumpkin pie color and normally use that along with the “typical” fall colors like rust, reds, browns, and yellows with it. But now I will be re-thinking fall. I love this card and the colors you used. The pumpkins really pop. I would be thrilled to own this card, so please enter me in the drawing. Every day brings a beautiful surprise when I view your next new card.
I haven’t found the set yet, but the search continues !

This card reminds me of the Disney version of Cinderella – the purple and teal with the orange. I usually tend to stick with the more traditional colors of orange and green and brown, but I think I will give these a try. Great Card!

I love the golds, reds, russets etc reminding of beautiful tree leaves you see in the photos and can never spot when you have a camera to hand or when in the US there is usually an ugly power cable in the foreground! I love this card and the one you did yesterday too.

Adorable card. I am new to stamping, so can’t really comment on stampin fall colors yet, but I know in general when fall comes around, I immediately think of : organes, browns( many shades of browns), reds (not the vibrant reds though) and anything that is rustic looking.

I wanted to ask, In case you read this comment: I have a clear set of stamps that I used my ink with and at first I thought it was the kind of ink I used, but mine turned yellow after first use. Is that what happened to your clear stamps Michelle? I was ready to take the ink and stamps back to the store until I saw your email.

    Thanks for sharing…
