Office/Stamp Room Remodel and a Blog Candy Winner

dsc03167.JPG

After much prodding, lol.  Russ has finished his part in the remodeling of my new office/stamp room.  He has put a few coats of a light blue paint on the walls, painted the ceiling white and put in a brand new Pergo floor.  It looks terrific, but now I must do my part, lol.

I have decided not to put in cabinetry, but instead went out and purchased around $2,000 worth of IKEA furniture.   I said to myself after looking at this huge stack of boxed, un-assembled furniture “WHAT WAS I THINKING!”  I purchased a really long “S” shaped desk, 3 super large bookcases and one small one.  All un-assembled!  Did I say that already, lol.

Anyway, I will be very, crazy busy assembling and moving things into the newly redecorated room, along with packing for my trip to Virginia and North Carolina, which I leave for on Thursday.  Unfortunately, this will leave no time for stamping.  I can’t find my supplies right now anyway, grin.  I just wanted you to know I am taking a break from blogging this week.  Please, please check out the previous 311 tutorials until I am back up and running.  I will keep you posted on how things are coming along in my new room.  Wish me strength and wisdom so I know just where to put everything the first time around.

Before I close, let me announce the winner of the Stampin’ Up! set House of Haunts.  The winner is. . . . . .  . .drum-roll please. . . . . . . . . .  . . . . . .

Comment #169       Melody who wrote “Another fabulous card! And I just love this set and never got it. That owl in the tree looks just like one in our yard a couple years ago in the fall. Oh, please pick me!!
Your creative process amazes me. I really hope to be able to get in on one of your classes somewhere sometime — I missed out on the Phoenix one, already full when I heard about it.”

Melody, Congratulations on winning the stamp set.  Please e-mail your address to mzindorf@aim.com within 30 days and I will ship this set out to you.

Thank you to all who played along.  Maybe it will be you next week!

Well I best get to assembling and moving.

Until my next post. . . . . . . .

May your week be one of miracles.

Huge Hugs,

Michelle

Michelle, looks like you are having a busy week in front of you. Your new stamping room is looking good already – I like the floor. Can’t wait until you post some more pictures of how things are coming together. It will be fabulous. I wish you not only strength and wisdom, but also patience ( there are always tons of screws and stuff in those IKEA boxes!).

Bet I have rearranged my studio a million times. Still not happy and am thinking of what to do next. Got any suggestions on organizing that is not in your Blog already? Have a safe and successful trip!

  4. Oh man, I bet I am the only one to say, “I sure wish I would have won that stamp set!!” Sorry, I’m just being truthful, but I will try to be graceous by sending congratulations to Melody (boy that was hard). However, the disappointment is dimenished by the fact you are redecorating and will be posting pictures of your new stamp room. I can’t wait, especially because you are using IKEA (which are still cheaper than buying cabinets someplace else). Did you get the file drawers — I love mine and recommend them to everybody. Keep us posted Michelle; and yes, I have a long list of your designs to CASE so this will give me a chance to catch up.

We will miss you…have fun!! Your room will be great – if Russ does not go with you then may be – hummmmm. Have to let us see the completed room. My husband is a cabinet maker and can’t get him to make me any for my room – I’ll show him and may be one day I will get some IKE too (LOL).

Congrats Melody for winning the candy blog!! You go girl 🙂 If you get tired of the set you can send it my way (just kidding).

I absolutely love your new room, nice shiny floor and two (that I can see) nice windows to let all the sunshine in. I can’t wait to see what it looks like once you get all your furnishings together and in place.

IKEA – Love it! My stamp room is all IKEA components, too! My husband is a carpenter so we thought this would be an easy task but let me tell you – there are 1000’s of little parts! It took him about 15 hours to build everything for me. I’ll have to send you some pictures & see if we have the same stuff! I have two sides of the room with counter tops with three little file cabinets under it and then one wall of the big bookcase squares and we put drawers in some and doors on some and some we left open. My husband installs office furniture for a living so we thought this would be a quick install but you really have to build EVERYTHING from scratch! It took a lot of patience to build every drawer and the base cabinet & rails that the drawers slide into – But he did it and it looks great and everyone I show it to is jealous!! Good for you – I’m sure we’ll all be jealous once you’re finished, too!!

You’re one busy lady!! We’ve purchased some things from Ikea in the past. Good luck with putting your furniture together! Their directions leave a lot to be desired. Happily, putting furniture together falls under the category – things my husband must do – lol.

Hi Michelle, I have got some Ikea too (in Europe it is not hard to find) and it is true, you will need quite some time to build it, but it is nice once you’re done…..
Love the brightness of your stamping room. I still have to use the kitchentable, untill the kids are grown and gone. Please come back soon (and safe, ofcourse)!

I went to Ikea this weekend also. I bought one double 50″ high Besta bookcase. I am typical female with no woodworking experience. I live alone so I have to do it all by myself. . This is the 4th bookcase I have put together since Ikea moved to Charlotte a year ago. The first one is the hardest to figure out the instructions. All Pictures-no words, no language barriers. I now have 3 blisters & sore palms from screwing in all the screws. My hands are sore. There is one washer/screw thingie that I couldn’t get to go in. But I am proud that I got it done & it is in my craft room & LOADED. I wish I would have bought the tall double unit instead. I have one tall one already. I thought I could put (2-high) my Jetmax cubes with paper on top of the 50″ high case. It makes the paper too high to be handy to see my paper. I may have to do some rearranging but I am tired & sore and it will have to wait for another day. SO, have some bandaids handy for the blisters! You will love it when it is all done but it is a lot of work to figure out where to put everything.

Good luck with the furniture assembly. Can’t wait to see the finished room. Sometimes I feel like I spend more time cleaning and organizing my stamping area then I do stamping. I hope to pick up some tips from your room. The s-shaped desk sounds interesting.

  21. Good luck on the Ikea assembly – perhaps I should send over my hubby; I think by now he’s a blackbelt in Ikea. What we normally do when we want to populate a room is to do a scale drawing of the room and the furniture, then play cut-out and move the paper furniture around on the sketch of the room. This has worked remarkably well for us (the last time we moved we kept on telling the movers which room everything went in; at one point a mover refused to put another box in my library “This won’t all fit!” he said. “ya wanna bet?” worked out just fine. Now, of course I have to stop buying more books – one day it WON’T Fit. (and then there’s the craft room…….)
    Enjoy the process!

  22. I live almost next to an IKEA and most of my workroom furniture I bought there. I find it easy to essemble, I mean I do it myself so it must be easy!
I haven’t visited your blog for a while but I still see the same high standard of card making. If ever you came to The Netherlands for workshops I would sign up immediately.

  25. Funny to know you have Ikea there too, I just live about 2 km away from Ikea in Finland. I make new craftroom last june and it was worft of all pennies, it only takes one week and hole time my home was mess. It was much easier to pack everything away than put back on new room… I almost throw some away, because I was so tired. Anyway, now I love it. I really hope lots of strenght to get everything ready!!
Waiting for pictures when your room is ready.

  26. Michelle — Have fun with your new room. I just completed mine and having recently discovered your blog and tutorials (AMAZING!), I’ve been having fun experimenting with your techniques.
However, as I’ve been trying things out, a couple of questions have come up. One of them was answered in your “common questions” section, regarding brayering lines. I had been going from side to side rather than top down, so I will try this new technique with my next card. My other question is regarding sponging. It takes me a long time to saturate an area to the extent and precision that you do and I was wondering whether it is something that takes you a long time as well or whether your you keep your ink pads extra saturated. Do you ink the sponges from the pad itself or press the pad to create an ink pool on the lid? I noticed from your pictures that you have not always used the SU! sponges and was wondering which sponges you prefer. I find they are not very good for small precise sponging — are better for large general coloring.
Sorry for the barage of questions. I would love to attend one of your workshops, but the closest one is near Seattle in September, and I would very much like to try out some of these techniques with some success before then.
Lastly, as a SU! demonstrator myself, I am curious how one schedules a brayer workshop with you. If you have a moment, I would very much appreciate a response. Thank you so very much. –Emily Lorelli
