Two Bucks – Tutorial #364

I have a winter scene for you today.  Just in case you want to start those Christmas cards.   What could be better than a couple of deer in the snow, right?

Today’s tutorial shows how to create hills of snow and then a reverse image.

I’m a bit slow at posting right now, the blog administrators upgraded my blog and now I have to learn how to post again.  It is all so very different behind the scenes, Yikes!   I do want to thank the people at Split Coast Stampers.  They do such a terrific job keeping my blog up and running when I have problems, they Rock!

Now on with tutorial #364.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Winter Post and Plant Hope
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Sahara Sand, Baja Breeze and Basic Black
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Not Quite Navy, Night of Navy and Baja Breeze

Ripped a couple of post it notes and masked the bottom of  a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock (Snow area).

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink in the sky area.  Also brayered Night of Navy at the top of the card stock.

Stamped the Pine trees from the Stampin’ Up set Plant Hope using Basic Black ink.

Repositioned the post it note mask to show some of the snow area above it.  Sponged Baja Breeze ink at the post it note edge.

Removed the post it note mask and sponged Baja Breeze ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Stamped the Deer from the Stampin’ Up set Winter post on the card stock using Basic Black ink.  Stamped the deer again on a Stamp-a-ma-jig plastic using Basic Black ink and flipped it over onto the card stock and rubbed the back of the plastic to transfer the image.

The reverse image will come out faint.

Colored in the reverse image using a Basic Black marker.

Added a star in the sky by making a cross and then an “x” over it using a ruler and a White gel pen.

Added random dots of White Gel pen in the sky area.

Added a panel of Sahara Sand so it showed only at the bottom and left side of the main image panel.

Added Whisper White, Baja Breeze and Basic Black panels.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I hope your day is much warmer than this scene.

Until my next post. . . . .  . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Michelle, I was just thinking I needed to start Christmas cards and thought ‘I’ll use the newfound technique I learned on Saturday from Michelle!’ so, boy! this fits right in :).

Thank you SO much for an awesome class on Saturday in Auburn. I am so proud of the cards I made, I’m showing them to all stampers I know :). I’m so glad I was able to meet you, and I hope you come back to Seattle sometime! I want to take your advanced course now :).

    ~hugs back 🙂

    Hi Michelle,

Of course, this is another gorgeous card. Love the shadowing on the snow and the night sky.

I want to tell you it was very fun to take your class last Saturday. You are a very nice, down to earth, and patient person. You really put me at ease. This is the first and only art or craft class I have ever taken. I did learn a lot. Even the shading of black on the cliff was an ah HA moment for me. Now I just need to squeeze some time in to practice and play with that new brayer and gel pen.

I’m so happy you came out. If you ever come this way again, I will take the advanced class.

    Hugs,
    Have a wonderful week,
    Terri

Hi Michelle. Glad to see you back on track. Ofcourse the pain will continue but practicing your art will ease it a little, and even if it sounds harsh, life continues.
i love this winterscene you created, as soon as I will have some quality-time for myself I will give it a try. Thanks a lot for sharing your art with all of us. Hugs, lucy

  7. WOW this is one beautiful card! I can’t wait to finish work today and go home and try it! (Look at your website while on a break of course LOl!)

You are so very talented and full of vision. They say ‘creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes and art is knowing which ones to keep’, you are a true artist.

I wish you would come to Taranaki, New Zealand so I come to your brayer classes to learn from the best…

GORGEOUS! Now, I get what you meant when you said you position the brayer in the direction in which you used it. And today, when I was driving to an appointment, I found myself looking at the (sunset) sky and thinking, “I can do that!”

Thanks again for the wonderful workshops last weekend.

I can’t tell you the number of times I have done a reverse stamp that didn’t turn out and tossed it; NEVER thinking to color in with my marker!!!! Talk about tunnel vision!!! Thanks Michelle, for opening my eyes!!! What a gorgeous scene this is too.

This mirror image card is so stunning. What a beautiful, peaceful scene you’ve created. Might have to try this one or something similar and dust off my brayer!

  12. Hi Michelle,

I attended the Atlanta Brayer Workshop in Atlanta, GA, this past weekend and loved it. I just used this background technique on a card I made using the Stampin’ Up! ‘Come to Bethlehem’ stamp set and will be posting it to my blog soon. I look forward to attending future workshops in the Atlanta area.
