Stampin’ Up Packing Paper Recycled Gift Wrap – Tutorial #402

Hopefully, we are all doing our part these days to save our plant and keep some things out of the land fills for a while longer.  Here is one idea that will help save trees and and your wallet at the same time.  🙂

If you are a serious Stampin’ Up! product nut like I am, you probably have lots of that brown paper that is packed in the Stampin’ Up! boxes you receive from the UPS man.  You know the cute guy in brown that we all stock, lol.

As you see in the picture below, I flatten the brown paper out and wrap it around an empty cardboard gift wrap tube to store it.  It packs up nicely and doesn’t take much space to store.

Now that we have our paper all rolled up, let’s get started on creating our gift wrap.   By the way, the paper can be used as is.  Just add a rustic looking ribbon and it looks great.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Medallion, Ornate Blossom
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Packing Paper
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze & Rich Razzelberry
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Rich Razzelberry Grosgrain Polka Dot Ribbon

First thing I did was cut a piece of paper off  the roll that would fit the box that I wanted to wrap.

You will want to use some big bold stamps for a piece this large.  🙂

I selected the Stampin’ Up Medallion stamp and stamped it in Baja Breeze ink in staggered rows across the paper.

Stamped the Stampin’ Up Ornate Blossom stamp using Rich Razzelberry ink between the Medallion stampings.

Wrapped my gift and added a Rich Razzelberry ribbon.  You will want to watch the ribbon when the gift is opened.  If the recipient does not want the ribbon, snag it before it hits the trash.  🙂  Again to recycle.

Here is a smaller package, wrap done with Old Olive, Early Espresso and Cajun Craze inks.  🙂

I hope you find value in this tutorial.  Now let’s get to recycling!

May your day be filled with all the gifts this wonderful planet has to offer.

Until my next post. . . . . . .  .

Hugs,

Michelle

You are sooo smart to do that. I always hated throwing all that paper away. I am going to use that tip!!! The paper looks beautiful.

I save just about every box and paper scrap I get. I never thought to roll it for storage. Duh! Love the look you created. Thanks for the reminder to be *green* and the pretty stamping idea, hugs….

  3. Michelle, what in the world would I do without you!!! I have used the packing paper many times — but not as often as I should (I truly believe in recyling). To be honest, I haven’t always liked my designs/stamping or am bored with what I have done. But your design is absolutely gorgeous! And you didn’t even iron your paper (like I always have) — I mean, DAH!, why haven’t I ever thought of going rustic/vintage????? Especially when I love this style. Thank you big time for sharing and for the great tip of using old wrapping rolls to store the paper (another OMG moment)!!
    Big hugs to you,

Thank you so much. This is such a great ideal and one the I will glad to use. Also, I’m glad you had a great time in Texas last week. A few of my Stampin up Buddy’s were lucky enough to take your class. I hope that someday I’ll be as lucky.

  6. argh!!!! I just put 3 orders worth of brown paper in the recycling this morning and it had been picked up before I read this! But no worries, plenty more where that came from, eh? Thanks for the great idea….I have done this before at Christmas (the jumbo wheels are GREAT for decorating gift wrap….Night of Navy jumbo snowflakes on the brown paper look very good! Just haven’t been collecting it due to space but wrapping it onto an empty cardboard tube solves that problem very nicely! And don’t forget that you can also fanfold it and use it to make your own “handmade” paper bag book/albums!

  7. I reuse that paper all the time to wrap things but I’ve never stamped on it. I tie them up plain with baker’s twine for that “brown paper packages tied up with string” appeal 🙂 I’m going to try stamping on it next time, though!

Usually we use the packaging in the winter for fire starter since we use a lot of wood heat. But now that spring is on its way (is IS on its way, right?) you have AGAIN inspired me. I LOVE this rustic look and the reuse!!!! Thanks Michelle!!!

  9. This is so great, and the design is beautiful too. Thanks for sharing this with everyone, that paper should never be thrown away, it has so many uses. It’s great for patterns. Reuse, recycle that’s a good motto.

And thanks for your blog it’s always terrific

  10. I’ve been recycling wrapping and brown paper for years. Solid color glossy wrapping papers are particularly good for brayering on stripes or patterns. My favorite thing is to wrap a package with wrinkled brown paper and twine to give it the appearance of something old and unkempt. Sometimes I’ll stencil on words like FRAGILE or THIS SIDE UP to make it look like parcel post. I always make sure that the gift underneath the unsightly outer wrap is something beautifully handmade. You can’t always judge a gift by it’s wrapper.

I love recycling paper like this. I usually iron it when I don’t want it to look too rustic. It is also a great kid project for the holidays. I cut sponges into snowmen, trees, ornaments and stockings. Then I let the kids stamp whatever they want. You can also add sentiments or greetings. I haven’t bought wrapping paper in years.

Beautiful!! Unfortunately all of my SU packages are delivered to my SIL who repackages them for overseas shipment, so I don’t get to keep that brown paper.
