On The Road Again. . . . .

My day started at 3:00 a.m. when I piled myself in my packed up van and headed to Wichita, Kansas to teach my brayer workshops this weekend.    Today’s journey took me through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and then into Kansas.    I found myself at the half way point in the town of Hermann, where I forced myself (not really) to visit 2 of the 6 wineries that you can find in this quaint, quaint town.  I found this to be a great place to stop and stretch my legs.  The picture above and the 2 below are scenes from my trip right outside of Hermann.  I just found them interesting.  Hmmmm, where would one get inspiration for a stamped scene?

Below is a little photo of the town from up on the hill where Stone Hill Winery is located.  Stone Hill Winery was my first stop.

Check out those naked grapevines in front of the winery (below).  I can only image this view when the vines are full of leaves and grapes.

Inside the tasting room/shop.   Yum!

I left Stone Hill Winery with 7 bottles in tow.  🙂

I found 2 more lovely bottles of wine at my next stop, HermannHof Winery.

I know, here I am in beautiful Kansas with no pictures to share of Kansas yet.    I’m sure I will have some before I leave on Monday.

All in all it was a lovely day and I made it here safe and sound in 14 hours.  I just love an adventure, don’t you?

What are your favorite places to stop at when you are traveling?  Antiques, Wineries, shopping, historical sights?

Well have a terrific weekend.   It’s time to fling myself in bed early to rest up for tomorrow.   I cannot wait to meet my Wichita Students!    Ladies are you ready to get your Brayer On?   I’m looking so forward to creating with you.

Huge Hugs,

Michelle

  1. Michelle, I LOVE the photos pf your trip! I will be driving to NY soon for a stamping event. It’s a 10-13 hour drive. Loved reading about your stop at this winery… you have got me looking forward to my trip to NY now!! I was a little frightened that I was doing the driving on my own, but seeing these photos and hearing about your little adventure makes me look forward to my “adventure!!” I will hopefully be stopping quite a bit, seeing as how I’ll have the girls with me, and my favorite places to stop are the antique stores! I just love them! I’m sure those ladies are looking forward to getting their “Brayer on!” I know I would if I were there!!~

  3. Oh wow, I’ve stalked your wonderful blog for a while now, and this entry just makes me smile. I used to work at Stone Hill as their vineyard manager for a couple of years…it is a beautiful town. I’m pretty sure I know where both of those first two pics were taken too.

Now I live next to Meramec Springs Park that you visited a year or two ago…hmmmm…you keep driving by. Maybe next visit to MO I might just hijack you and make you brayer something as a ransom! 😀 Just kidding of course. Hope you trip goes smoothly and your classes are filled with fun. Cheers!

Love that you are in Kansas as I live in SW KS. We have the most beautiful sunrises here, I think of your workshop and the cards I want to make most mornings on my way to work.
    Enjoy your time here!

  6. I love the winerys across the eastern part of Kansas. If you have time go to Smoky Hill Winery, I believe they have a place in Wichita, Grace Hill Wine, and Windswept Winery. I especially love the Smoky Hill Red. Hope you have a good time there! Vickie

I love traveling, too… and especially a good road trip!! My favorite places to stop are historical sites. On our last trip which was primarily a business trip for hubby, we were able to stop on the way back home in Springfield, IL to visit all the Lincoln sites. We enjoyed it so much. I don’t know how I had missed that stop on previous travels but we were both so glad we decided to take the time on this trip as it was so worth it. And I can’t leave out shopping! LOL!! That’s my second favorite stop on trips!

  8. Wow, I would love to travel with you!! I never get to stop and see things when I am traveling with my husband. He is the type that has to drive straight there and straight back. At least now that we are older he will stop at motels for the night, but didn’t get to do that when I was younger. Love your pictures today, and always enjoy seeing them when you travel. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

I loved the pictres of Stone Hill Winery. I had to check and make sure that it was the one in Herman, Missouri! It is a weekend getaway to many St. Louisians. I’m so glad you stopped there to stretch your legs. I feel like a celebrity visited us even thoughI don’t live there.

  12. Michelle, your probably on your way home now but one of my favorite places in Indiana is Nashville, between Columbus and Bloomington. I drove down to Leadership and on our way home we spent a day in Nashville, In. I think it qualify’s as an artist colony. I don’t know if they have a winery or not. Don’t remember one.

The workshop was wonderful. The trip home was —–well, shall we say challenging…..mist, light rain then heavy rain then rain mixed with sleet and then snow…the snowplow was out west of Cunningham, which is also where we saw our first car in the ditch….two young males, no apparent injuries and EMT and sheriff were on hand. Last leg home another car in ditch…lots of apparent damage this time but fire truck, sheriff, and EMTs were on the scene there also…..
Arrived home just a few minutes after 10—tired but full of ideas for using the new techniques you taught us.
Hope your trip home was less challenging.

Oh wow! Your post brought back many happy childhood memories. My grandparents used to live in Warrenton, MO and when we visited, we’d drive into Hermann for a visit. Our focus was not the wineries, though, but the bakery. We had lots of yummies from the German bakery in Hermann. I wonder if it’s still there. I also remember that there was the most spectacular view as we crested one of the hills on the drive into town. Thanks for sharing your travels with us as well as your techniques, Michelle.
