Ottumwa, Iowa Hot Air Balloon Races and Festival

I’m in Ottumwa, Iowa teaching my brayer techniques this weekend and I could not have timed my trip better.  After teaching yesterday I was treated to the awesome sights and sounds of the Ottumwa Hot Air Balloon Races and Festival.

When we arrived at the festival things were just starting to heat up.  They were inflating the hot air balloons.  These balloons are really something to see floating across the sky, but it was unreal to see them up close and personal at the festival and to get to walk amoung them.

As the sun went down the balloons were kept inflated and they would do short periods of time in which the balloons were lite up all at once.  So much color, it was fantastic!

I’m deathly afraid of heights, so seeing this from the ground was the best way to see it for me.  🙂

May your weekend be full of fun surprises.

Until my next post. . . . .  .

Hugs,

Michelle

Aren’t they beautiful! We have a big balloon festival here in NH too and it is such an awesome sight. I also watch from the safety of the ground. LOL!

  3. What beautiful pictures! Lucky you to see all those hot air balloons all glowing at night!

I’m not too keen on heights either but a friend surprised us with a hot air balloon ride on our 40th anniversary. It was WONDERFUL! You float above and can see so much. We saw deer running and a couple canoeing in a crick.

Oh my goodness, Michelle, these photos are gorgeous and I’ll bet they will be inspiration for a card or two! As one who has had a marvelous ride in a hot air balloon, all I can say is…..you don’t really have a sensation of height when you are in them. It is them most peaceful feeling, floating above the earth, with the hush of quiet….you don’t hear the sounds on the ground. It was a most amazing experience and I would do it again in a flash!

  5. Aren’t they beautiful?? We have several balloon festivals in Vermont and the area around us. “Balloon Glow” is one of our most favorite times to photograph them. Sun up shots are pretty nice too.

Wow, Mickey, thanks for sharing this experience, great pics as usual! I’m with you on the fear of heights thing. I gifted our family a hot air balloon ride one year, and right before we were going to leave the ground, I FREAKED and told the ground crew I wanted OUT NOW. One of the ground crew members pulled me to her face and kindly said “I want you to know that everyone who has felt the way you feel now has told me they were so glad they went through with it when they landed.” So off I went. It was an awesome experience, and even though we had the roughest landing the pilot ever experienced, I was laughing the whole time!!! I hope to see more of your fun cards inspired by the great colors of the balloons.

Wow, amazing pics!! Did you run into Radar from MASH? lol I am a M*A*S*H* freak, best show ever made I think.
I am not afraid of heights, but scared of falling, even if it’s 3 feet. I think I would do ok in a balloon and have always wanted to do that. Can’t imagine how truly gorgeous those were all lit up at night.
