An Ottumwa, Iowa Roller Derby Evening

Whew, what a fun filled evening I had.  I’m still hanging out in Ottumwa, Iowa and man oh man, my Iowa friends did not let me down when it came to entertainment.  Check it out, we went to watch the ladies Roller Derby.

Oskaloosa Mayhem Girls Roller Derby

The home town team, Oskaloosa Mayhem Girls (OMG) are a force to be reckoned with!   They put a hurt’n on the Cedar Valley Push up Brawlers and won the bout.  I’m a people watcher and the crowd was just as entertaining as the Roller Derby Ladies, lol.

But wait, who are these rough looking characters in the penalty box?

Check it out, my Iowa friends and I just had to have a picture taken of us in the penalty box.

Roller Derby ladies make up great Roller Derby names, such as, Spankins, Shear Evil, Kickn Ash, T-Erin it Up, PattyWhackerHer, Short Fuze.

So in the spirit of the Roller Derby, I made up my own Roller Derby name “Road Kill”, lol.   What would your Roller Derby name be?   Think tough.       Leave it in the comment section, I would love to hear it.

I think I may even have  a stamp set to give away to the person with the best Roller Derby name!!!!

Thanks goes out to my Iowa friends.  Ladies you ROCK!!!!

May you not have to pick yourself up off of the floor.

Until my next post. . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

  1. I am such a roller derby fan! My local girls are the Venomous Vixens and our B team is the Brass Knuckle Brawlers. They are tough! My girlfriend rolls as Farrah Moans. They have the best names! Pippi Headstomper, Mamageddon and Polly Pocket Rocket to name a few. 🙂

I believe Ottumwa, Iowa is where the character Radar in M*A*S*H was from. Just wondered if there was a sign highlighting that in the town?

I’ll go with Tasmanian Twister !

That’s a hard one! Because I spend so much time in my craft room, I’d have to give myself the name ‘Stampin Fool’; not very original but it seems I’ve gone brain dead this morning!!!

Cuszen Enkicken is the best I can come up with. If I have to explain it, it’s no good, LOL! There was a recent article about a local team and the girls reportedly say they LOVE it, and the tougher/meaner the action the better they like it. After reading the article, I’d liken the sport and comaraderie to the image I have of the Marines. Have a safe trip home.

First name that came to mind is “Hell on Wheels” I loved to rollerskate but those ladies are rough and tough. I’m glad that you are having such a good time.

RedHatStomper would be the name I choose for myself. Sounds like you are having a great weekend. Remember when the ladies roller derbies were on TV? I do.

What a fun time you have had! And might I say you are looking really good! We have had flooding here in MOntana and as a result our GNATS are huge and mean and I despise them. So my roller derby name is “GNAT BLASTER”!!

RoughRoll’n Red – I love the Roller Deryby!!! Those are some very tough women and since I cry easily I don’t think I could make the cut.

  9. Oh my goodness!!! The potential derby names shared in the comments here are worth the price of admission! I am such a baby (and not terribly coordinated or athletic) so I’m having a hard time picturing myself on skates, let along duking it out with the roller derby crowd but I am going to have to do with a rather saucy name…
since my stampin’ name is inkerzaway how about “inkinyerarse”? Ok, worse than saucy but I did clean it up from the original thought, however you do not need to worry about finding my inkyarse on the roller derby floor….but maybe in the Bad Girls penalty box! lol!

Jan, I love that name! lol
I think mine would have to be The CrimpHer I just love using my crimper; rolling and bending and crimping my paper, I could see myself doing the same on the roller derby floor! Although, I’d prob say I was sorry afterwards!

This brings back such memories (roller derby). When I was in my sophmore year of college, we had a bunch of freshmen believing we all were roller derby players. There was this cafe in Livingston CA, called Blueberry Hill and we said we were the Blueberry Hill Roller Derby team. Don’t think we ever made up names but I would have been the Blueberry Hill Rolling Pin, rolling right over them I would. ROTFLOL Oh PS, one of the group of friends who convinced the freshmen was actually from Livingston.

A roller derby team just started around here. I would have to go with either “Peach Clobber” (since I’m from GA) or “Billie Club”. Of course I could never be a real roller derby girl – I can’t skate and I hate falling LOL.

In honor of the late Elizabeth Taylor I am going with “Cleo-smack-ya”.
My favorite movie is Cleopatra so it fits me.

This is great fun and I just loved reading everyones names. A good laugh for the evening. Thanks for suggesting it.

Too fun!! When I was kid I lived on skates, but that was a lotta years ago. I know it should be a name that would strike fear into the other skaters, but being true to myself, I would fall all the time so my name would have to be Tortured Tushy!! lol

What a great idea! I absolutely loved roller skating as a teenager and wanted to join a roller derby team, however I was heavily discouraged (forbidden) by my mother to join one. I came up with the name “Crasherella” for a roller derby chic because my crafting name is Skraperella.

  16. Oh my gosh, Michelle, it sounds like you had a wonderful time! You have the most awesome job of all! I can only imagine…doing what you love with people who love what you do, meeting and getting to know so many stampers, and seeing the sights of each town you go to!!! An amazing job for an amazing gal!!

Well, seeing how I’m from Nova Scotia and the highest tides in the world were recorded here, my name would just have to be “TidalBore”! I’ve enjoyed reading the names, what a fun idea you had!!! Thanks for the smiles!!

What fun! How about Acceler8or (accelerator) Anonymous? Don’t you just love how those gals squeeze through the line picking up speed and skate their little hearts out? Played ice hockey in college but never roller derby ~ so fun to watch though!

  18. I loved that Roller derby movie and If I needed a name I would call myself “Bad to the Bone” because the organisers would be able to play my theme song and the crowd would chat B B B B B Bad… every time I rollered past for my winning moves!
