My Abby Girl

With many tears I had to say goodbye to my sweet, sweet,  Girl Abby today as she passed on.   She will be greatly missed in this family!

TREASURED FRIEND

I lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
Her gentle head upon my knee
And shared her silent thoughts with me.

She’ll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more her favourite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called her to his golden throne.

Although my eyes are filled with tears
I thank him for the happy years
He let her spend down here with me
And for her love and loyalty.

When it is time for me to go
And join her there, this much I know
I shall not fear the transient dark
For she will greet me with a bark.

Michelle

It’s so hard to say goodbye. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

One last word of farewell, dear master and mistress. Whenever you visit my grave, say to yourselves with regret but also happiness in your hearts at the remembrance of my long happy life with you: “Here lies one who loves us and whom we loved.” No matter how deep my sleep I shall hear you, and not all the power of death can keep my spirit from wagging a grateful tail.

Michelle, I’m so sorry about you losing your sweet Abby! We’ve had two dogs….and then one for 9 years and one for 14 years. I cried like a baby whe we lost them both. They aren’t just pets, they are family members and losing them is always hard. It’s been nearly four years since Okie passed and I get teary everytime I know someone else has lost their beloved companion.

So sorry to hear about your darling Abby. This poem is very moving, I shed a few tears reading this and thinking of my own darlings I have lost. I feel your hurt, it’s so hard saying goodbye, it’s like loosing a child, they depend on us to care and love them, but their love returned is unconditional, and always remembered. Take care Mickey, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh, yours was the 1st e-mail I opened this afternoon. What a beautiful dog Abby is and what a wonderful life you all must have had together. I have lost 3 of the most wonderful dogs God ever put on this earth and I am sitting her with 2 more and sometimes just cry thinking that I’ll have to say goodbye to them eventually. I’m so, so sorry.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
Letting them go is very difficult, and my thoughts are with you.
We had to let our boxer and black lab go within 2 months of each other this year.
It does not get easier, but there is always one that God can find to place in your loving care.
    when the time comes.

I am so sorry for your loss. Our fur babies are such a big part of our lives; they bark, meow, purr and lick their way directly to our hearts. Their love has no boundaries and they hold no grudges. We lost our sweet Sugar Bear (a black cocker spaniel) to cancer 6 years ago and my husband and I still can’t talk about her without shedding tears. She was my constant companion for 13 glorious years and brought me immeasurable joy. We now have Tigger, the sweetest kitty I’ve ever known. Someone had thrown her out and she came to our back door, starving & full of worms, begging for someone to love her. We were still grieving for our precious Sugar Bear and we were not cat people. But she persisted and Tigger is now the queen of our castle (she is an indoor cat). She greets us at the door and purrs constantly. Since my husband’s frightening heart episode, she sleeps next to him as if she is monitoring his breathing and heart rhythm. I’ve even found her sitting on his bedside table, just watching him and purring. Everyone remarks how lucky she is that she chose to come to our door, but we are the lucky ones. She is now our fur baby, not one to take Sugar Bear’s place, but one to ease some of our grief and bring fur baby joy back into our lives. When you are ready, I hope a sweet bundle of fur will appear at your door.
    My deepest sympathy, -mary

So very sorry for your loss Michelle. I’ve had to say goodbye to a number of furry kitty babies over the years and each one is difficult, but I know they’ll be waiting for me one day. They bring such joy into our lives, I can’t imagine not having a furry baby to snuggle with. Blessings to you.

  20. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

    Michelle,
Sending hugs for the loss of your fur baby. They hold such a special place in our hearts. Had to say good-bye to one of our grand-pups this weekend. My son and his wife brought him to our house to join our other beloved babies. So hard to say good-bye!

What an incredibly beautiful poem. I’m so sorry for your loss but I certainly believe that we are reunited with our pets again, just as with the “non furry” ones close to us who have passed on.
    God Bless and big hugs!

  25. Oh I am so sorry Michelle. I dread the day that happens to us. Our ‘daughter’ dog is 8 years old and starting to get a bit slower and lazier. She actually looks a ton like your beautiful Abby, but she is yellow instead of chocolate.
    Hugs to you.
