My Chicks Are Here, Chirp, Chirp!

Meet my four new babies.   They just arrived this very morning, express mail.

We are going to call them the girls for now.  My chicks are all girls and I want to wait just a bit to name them.

They are 2 days old now and will live in this box brooder I put together for them for 4 to six weeks and then out to the new chicken coop.

I just want to let you know what I was up to this morning.  No time for stamping today.   I have chicks to coddle!

Sorry about the fuzzy pics.  They are really fuzzy, but they also haven’t learned how to stay still for photos yet, lol.  Or it could be that their new mommy has had to much caffeine today!

These are my first chicks.  I’m looking forward to having fresh eggs in about 6 months.

Anyway, I’m going to go back to watching the chicks and will post a project for you tomorrow.  Chirp, Chirp!

You will love them, I have 7 chickens (2 roosters and 5 hens) and of course they all have names. They really have great personalities and yes we get eggs any where from 4-5 daily. You can give them uni-sex names so they will start getting use to their own name…have fun!!

  2. They are adorable! Have fun with your new babies 🙂 btw, don’t know if you know any French. Sandrine, above, said something like this, “Congratulations! They are truly dainty [gentle? cute?]. I also have chicks and love knowing that my eggs don’t come from the grocery store.”

    Enjoy!

  3. Oh…I love your chicks. I had a rooster when I was growing up and he would only mind me. And would come only when I called him. Start naming them now, every time you pick them up call them by their name, as they grow they will know there name and will come when you call them. You can also train them to stay in one area. They will stay in that area some of the time but they like to wonder off. 🙂 Have fun with your chicks. I can’t wait ’til we move to the country so I can have my chicks. Have fun!

Congrats on your new little chicks. We got some new ones a little over a month ago, so they are not as cute, growing new feathers and all. I have 2 year old hens that lay for us and they wander all over during the day. The new ones aren’t too adventureous yet. Have some to butcher and new pullets to replace the hens. Yours are a little more distinctive to give them names, ours look too much alike and so couldn’t tell who is who! But, I do name all the new little calves we have! Enjoy!

Too cute Michelle. Brings back memories for me as a child. I lived with my Grandmother and she had chickens. I loved those little chicks. Have fun with them…..they grow fast for sure!

Too cute Michelle. I love chickens and have hatched many over the years. I know you will love them. they are great pets and their antics are so much fun. Handle them lots while they are little and let them eat out of your hand, pick them up and carry them on your hand or shoulder… trust me, it will make life easier for you as they are older.

Some of the names of mine (for inspiration) have been Lunch (but that was no good as she became the neighbour’s dog’s lunch); Lacey, Rosie, Feathers, chook chook, Faith, Grace, Black Betty, Nemo, Errol, Dumb and Dumber, Little Brown hen, Little whitie, Fluffy, Thumper…. the list goes on. I’ve had over 25 in the past 10 years. I look forward to hearing what you name yours.

and thanks for all the work you do sharing your skills in tutorials on this blog
