Parked at the Beach – Stampin’ Up! Card Tutorial #600

Holy Mackerel!  is this really my 600th card tutorial!   Seems like yesterday that I started my blog.   How long have  you all been hanging out here?  Are you still enjoying the cards that I put up?

I’m thinking about changing things a bit.  I’m finding that I’m not getting as much out of my stamp sets as I should.  So, I’m thinking about doing a series on a set weekly.  Example, doing 2 or 3 tutorials using the same set.  Would this also be helpful to you?  I know it will make me stretch creatively, which will some times be painful, lol.   Let me know your feelings by commenting below.  I’ll be using a random number generator to select one of the commenters and give them this Stampin’ Up! Hostess Set, Summer Afternoon.

I’ll do the drawing on Thursday, May 9, 2013.

About today’s card tutorial, I’m leaving for an all expense paid trip to Fiji in a couple of days.  I was able to earn it by being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator.  Gotta love a job that you can earn income and fabulous trips as well.

Anyhow, my mind is already at the beach so I put it on paper.   Follow along with the tutorial below and let’s go to the beach together!

Cut a short strip of Basic Black card stock and nipped the end using a square punch so it created a “V” shape at one end.

Added the strip to the card front and added mini silver brads.

Added a strip of Tempting Turquoise down the bottom of the surfboard and a strip of Real Red marker along the bottom of the car to create more dimension.

Here is te finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Stampin’ Up’s Color Refresh! I love color and I know that you do too. Color is fundamental to who Stampin’ Up! is and what they offer. It’s important for us to stay up-to-date with color trends so I am thrilled to share Stampin’ Up’s updated line of colors, and hope you will be as excited as I am by the new possibilities!

Why now? In 2010 Stampin’ Up! did a big color renovation and shared their plans for smaller color refreshes every three to five years to keep their colors on trend. Well it has been three years and I am excited to announce that the upcoming 2013-2014 annual catalog will include 10 new colors (most of which are returning In Colors from previous years)! Stampin’ Up! is welcoming back some of your favorites, moving some colors around, and introducing one brand-new color, so take a look!

Beginning on April 4, 2013, all retiring/discontinued color products (i.e. ink, paper, ribbon, accessories, etc.) will be available only while supplies last. This means that some products will not be available through the retired list period. Stampin’ Up! did anticipate increased demand and based their forecasts for these retiring colors on historical sales information from previous color transitions. However, even with the most careful planning, the response to a transition of this nature can surprise everyone–including your own personal purchases. We encourage you to get your favorites and look forward to the exciting colors coming in the 2013-2014 annual catalog.

Ooohh, I think it would be a fabulous idea to do a week of using the same stamp set. Sometimes we get stuck in a rut using stamps in always the same way and we need other ideas to jump-start our own. Have fun on your trip; nothing better than free!!

I love when you combine sets for a really unique perspective. You are creating art at a level that I can understand. Your step by step tutorials are fantastic. I think it would also be great to see 3 ways to use a set. Thanks for a chance to win this set and all that you do to help us stretch our wings!

I would love to see a series of ways to use the same stamp set. I sometimes get stuck in a rut and do the same design/layout with different colours so seeing different ways to use the same would would be great. I think I have been following you for about 300 tutorials. I can’t believe how many you have done but WELL DONE to not only make them but persevere in sharing them. And congratulations on your trip to Fiji. I am sure it will be wonderful and well deserved

I love your constant inspirations! I took one of your classes 2 years ago, learned loads. I’m sorry I missed your class in Sacramento, since it seems you aren’t traveling this year. I like the idea of using one set, I have done this and find it quite stretching and satisfying.
    Enjoy your well deserved trip!

LOVE your creations…. Check you daily prob since the beginning! I just love your techniques and how you make things look so “real” . It would be great to see more than one card made with a set – that is something I struggle with sometimes. Thanks for being such an inspiration to me! And others! Hugs to you!

    Michelle,
I’ve been following your tutorials for several years, since before you taught your wonderful brayer classes in CO. I think your tutorials are great, get me to stretch a bit when I try to CASE one of your cards.

I love the idea of getting more out of each stamp set. I find it funny, though, that YOU think you don’t get enough out of one set. You show far more creativity in using them than I possess. I really love how you use markers and shading to add dimension to the stamps. That’s just not something that comes naturally to me.

Congrats on your fabulous vacation. Know that you’re leaving behind many envious stampers!

I think it’s a great ideal. I know my sets are under-utilized. I think it would be fun and definitely worth trying out. As far as whether or not we are still “hanging out” and enjoying your tutorials – let me give you a resounding YES MA’AM!!! I look for your tutorials almost every day. I pray you continue onward. Thank you for these tutorials.

Congrats on your 600th tutorial! I’ve been following your posts for quite some time and enjoyed taking your classes when you were in the area. Love the new tutorials you are offering. I like the idea of using the same stamp set. I typically don’t buy a set until you’ve used it in several cards. How about you pick 3 sets a month and make 3-4 cards from each. Then you could spread your creativity over a month instead of a week (yikes!). Looking forward to more beach inspired cards when you return from your totally awesome vacation! Thanks for all you do for us.

I am excited about your idea to create and share a variety of ideas for a single stamp set… I think it would help me from only ‘seeing’ one thing when I look at the set, and that would surely make me want it all the more! lol…

I just love your tutorials! I think it would be a FABULOUS idea to show the many different ways to use one stamp set! Honestly, I’m usually looking at which stamp set you are using FIRST to see if I even have that one or have something similar I could use to get the same effect as you have on your card! Like with trees… there’s so many tree sets out there but some can stand in for others and to see what you’d do with any tree set would be wonderful! Thanks for keeping your blog content flexible, interesting and especially educational!

I have always loved your tutorials, no matter which stamp set you use. I like the idea of several tutorials for one stamp set, but I think you already do that. If I need a western theme card, you have several I can choose from, because you tag them. I am the minority here, but I like the varity of each tutorial. It would tempt me tho to buy a stamp set more often if you had 2 or 3 examples for each stamp set (which is why I have the western set, lol) Have fun on your trip! and no matter which way you decide to do it, I will still be a loyal follower. I think that would be great! Especially since I created a rule for myself about using the stamp set again if I didn’t put it away. All though, it may give me the incentive to not clean up after myself. LOL It would be extrememly helpful with holiday cards. Have fun in Fiji!
