My Chicks Arrived

Good morning!

I have a quick post this morning.  I got the call from my little post office here in town a little after 6:00 a.m. asking me to come pick up my peeping box.  Since the post office isn’t open I had to go to the back door and they handed them off to me.

I order my chicks from Mypetchicken.com.  Great place to work with to get the breeds you desire along with having them sexed and vaccinated.  All my chicks are female.

They arrive in this box.

Believe me they are peeping loud!

They ship day old chicks.  It’s a little scary opening the box.  I’m always afraid that there may be a bad surprise.  But both times I received my chicks they are in great shape.  It’s hard to tell, but there are 6 chicks.  I got 4 Marans, 1 Easter Egger and 1 Leghorn.   I purchased the Marans as a collection so I don’t know exactly what kind of Marans they are until they get their adult feathers.

Now don’t laugh at my fancy chick brooder set up, lol.  Yes, they are in my house while they are very little.  You have to control the temperature and check on their water/food constantly.  The light is red so they don’t peck each other.  Not sure the reasoning behind that, but I do what I’m told.  Doesn’t make for great pictures and I don’t want to handle them a great deal today.

Any how, I’m sure I will take more pictures of the chicks as they learn to stamp like the last group, lol.

I’m off to actually create a stamping project if I can pull myself away from the chicks.  They are too stinking cute!

Hugs!

Michelle

OH Michelle they are so cute and by far fun to have around. I had a Easter layer when I was little. My dad ran a children’s home and were given hens when the man moved from near by. All the hens were fun to have around like yours. Brings back a lot of memories, seeing your ladies.

I never heard of sending chicks thru the mail until my son/D-I-L moved to a 5 acre parcel. They do the same in the house when they get a new batch. I’m a city girl but love the eggs. AND, it came as a surprise to me that you didn’t have to have a noisy rooster to get eggs.. Who knew! Chickens have a house better than some people to keep out the wild life that also like chickens & eggs!

Now you’ve done it, Michelle! I LOVE chickens/roosters. I had one bantam hen 20 years ago that someone gave me. I had no place to keep her, so I put her in my garden (fenced in). I had a couple of old orange crates (when they still made them of wood) that I nailed together, then placed some thick vinyl fabric over the top for her shelter. After several days “Chickie” would greet me at the garden gate. Then she would fly up and sit on my shoulder. I’d occasionally let her out of the garden, and she’d follow me wherever I went. After about 6 weeks, she started laying about 3 eggs/week. She was my baby. Very sad to report, a Hawk took my Chickie away. 😦 I have wanted more chickens and roosters since then, but refused to buy more due to the number of hawks and fox around here.

Seeing your adorable babies has renewed that desire. I will restrain myself until I have a secure area for them to roam, including a top to protect them.

Thank you for sharing your babies. This made my day!
