Blog Candy Friday!

It’s Friday, Friday, Friday!!!!  Yeah!!!

Don’t you just love the weekend?  Even though I work from home I still love the weekends.  Especially since my darling husband, Russ works outside of the home Monday through Friday.  Let me say “Thank Goodness”, LOL.    I love my husband dearly, but if he worked from home, that would definitely be too much togetherness for me.   Sorry, I digressed there a bit.  I love the weekends because I get to spend them with Russ.  🙂

Anyway, I haven’t given away any blog candy in a few weeks.  So, how about I give away this truly stunning Stampin’ Up set “Punched Potpourri.  My favorite stamp in this set is the bird.    LOVE THAT BIRD!

If you would like to enter to win this stamp set, please leave a comment at the bottom of this post telling me to enter you.   If you are getting this blog update via e-mail, PLEASE CLICK HERE and then leave a comment.

I will select the winner on Monday, December 13, 2010 using a random number generator.   Good Luck to all!  Remember you can’t win if you don’t enter.

Until my next post. . . .  . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Chilly Day – Tutorial #382

Baby it’s cold outside!    The chill in the air sure did get me in the mood to stamp this chilly scene using Stampin’ Up’s new stamp set “Jolly Old Saint Nick”.

Now my friend and Stampin’ Up – Up Line Karen Barber would tell you “it just isn’t right for a snowman to have legs”, lol.  But this little guy is just too darn cute, even with legs.   What’s your opinion, legs or no legs for snowman?   You may have never even thought about the subject.  🙂

Anyway, let’s get started on today’s tutorial. . . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Jolly Old Saint Nick, Priceless
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White and Baja Breeze
Ink: Stampin’ Up Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy and Basic Black
Accessories: Stampin’ Up Clear embossing powder, heat gun, brayer, mat pack template, swirly & Northern Frost Die Cuts, Big Shot Machine, Stampin’ Up Markers Cherry Cobbler, Blush Blossom, Baja Breeze and Sahara Sand, Prismacolor Silver Paint Marker, Sponge, Versamark Marker and Pad, sponge

On a 3.25″ x 6.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock, stamped the snowman by first loading my stamp with Versamark and the loaded it with Basic Black ink before stamping it.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the scarf, mittens and ribbon on his hat using a Cherry Cobbler marker.

Added shadowing on the snowman using a Sahara Sand marker.

Added a bit of color to his cheeks with a Blush Blossom marker.

Colored over the snowman, staying within the lines using a Versamark marker.  Color the dark colors first, clean the marker on scap paper and then color over the white part of the snowman.  Be careful the color parts will smear if you are not careful.

Heat emboss the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  Your image should be fully covered now.  If there are any dimples in your embossing repeat the Versamark marker and embossing powder/heating.

Stamp the swirl from the Stampin’ Up set Priceless twice using Versamark only.  Heat emboss the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Make random dots all over the card stock using the Versamark marker.  Heat emboss the dots using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Rip a hill in a post it note and mask.  Brayer Baja Breeze ink at the top of the card stock, down to the hill.

Brayer Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock.

Rip another post it note in a hill shape and mask the entire bottom of the card stock.

Brayer Baja Breeze ink at the bottom of the unmask area, be careful not to cover the top of the hill.

Move the mask down and over to the left.  Brayer Baja Breeze ink and a little Not Quite Navy at the bottom.

Remove all the masks.  Brayer Baja Breeze ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Brayer Not Quite Navy ink at the very bottom of the card stock.

Gently wipe the ink off of the embossed images.

Using the Stampin’ Up Mat Pack template, colored in circles down the right side of the card stock using a Baja Breeze marker.

Wi

Cut a 5″ x 6.5″ Baja Breeze card stock panel.   Sponged Not Quite Navy ink down the right side of the card stock.

Cut a Whisper White Swirly Die Cut using the Big Shot Machine.

Adhered the main image panel to the Baja Breeze Panel, Swirly Die Cut to the right side of the card stock.

Used a Prismacolor Silver Paint Marker and trimmed the entire card stock.   Note, hold marker half on and half off the card stock and drag the marker straight down the card stock edge.  This gives you a nice straight line.

Cut a Whisper White Northern Frost Snowflake Die Cut using the Big Shot Machine.  Cut it in half and adhered the halfs to the card front.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May your day be filled with warmth and laughter.

Until my next post. . . .  .

Hugs,

Michelle

Stained Glass Santa – Tutorial 381

Ho, Ho, Ho!

I’ve been wanting to break this cute, fat Saint Nick stamp out from the Stampin’ Up set Jolly Old Saint Nick.    So here it is used in my monthly Stampin’ Up Down Line  technique swap card.  This months technique is Stain Glass.    Stained Glass with Vellum that is.  🙂  Very simple way to add some depth in a scene.

But first I want to announce that I have added Jefferson, Louisiana (New Orleans Area) to my Brayer Workshop Calendar.  Click here for all the details.

Let’s get started on the tutorial. . . .  .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Jolly Old Saint Nick
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Not Quite Navy, Night of Navy and Vellum
Ink: Stampin’ Up Not Quite Navy, Night of Navy, Basic Black and Whisper White
Accessories: Stampin’ Up Markers – Real Red, Basic Black and Blush Blossom, Silver Brads, Versamark, Clear embossing powder, heat gun, White Gel Pen and Real Red Ribbon

The brand new USA Idea book and Catalog is here.   For your copy, please send a check for $9.95 to Michelle Zindorf, P.O. Box 116, West Alexandria, OH 45381 or send it via paypal to mzindorf@aim.com USA only.     Want a free copy of the new Holiday Mini Catalog ?  E-mail your mailing address to mzindorf@aim.com and I will get one in the mail to you.  )  Are you getting inspiration from this blog?   One way you can help support it is to order your Stampin’ Up products through me.   Click HERE to place an order.    Want to become a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator , receive a 20% discount on product and earn instant income on orders?  Consider being part of my Stampin’ Up Team and start your own business or become a Hobby Demo just for the discount.  Click HERE for more information.

Step 1:  Stamped the Santa on a 3″ x 4″ piece of vellum by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then with Basic Black ink, then stamped the image.  Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.    Be very careful to only heat it enough to melt the embossing powder or you could warp the vellum.

Colored the image with a Real Red marker and a Blender pen as follows.  Put a line of Real Red Marker at the bottom of the section that I wanted to color and then using the Blender Pen, worked the color all over the area, getting lighter in color as I moved up the section.  Did the same method for the Basic Black areas using a Basic Black marker and a Blender Pen.  Lastly, added Blush Blossom Marker to his face, no Blender Pen.

Colored in the white areas using my White Gel pen and small circles.

Ripped a jagged edge in a post it note and masked the bottom of a 4.25″ x 5.75″ piece of Whisper White card stock.  Brayered Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Night of Navy at the top of the card stock, not covering the Not Quite Navy ink entirely.

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the post it note edge to darken the horizon line.

Moved the post it note down a bit and sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the post it note edge.

Tore a bit more off of the post it note mask to create a different hill shape and moved the post it note down a bit more and sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the post it note edge again.

Moved the post it note down and over a bit and sponged Not Quite Navy ink one more time at the post it notes edge.

Attached the Vellum to the card stock using Silver Brads at the corner.

Stamped Snowflakes in the sky on the card stock and one the vellum using Whisper White Craft Ink.

Added a Night of Navy and Not Quite Navy card stock panels.  Also added Real Red Ribbon.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Hope this little guy gets you into the Christmas Spirit.  Give this technique a try.  It is much prettier in real life.  You can see all of the shading in the coloring on the vellum.

May your evening be a delightful one!

Until my next post. . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Accessories:  Stampin’ Up Sponge, 3 oval punches, Modern Label punch, Boho Blossoms Punch, Brayer, Cajun Craze and Basic Black markers, More Mustard Brads.

Punched Ovals from Old Olive card stock using 3 different sized Oval punches from Stampin’ Up.

I also punched two small flowers out of So Saffron using the Stampin’ Up Boho Blossoms Extra Large Punch.

Cut the bottom of each flower off and a triangle section from one of the ovals.

Rubbed the ovals on my Cherry Cobbler ink pad, lightly.

Added a shadow to the right side of each oval by rubbing it on my Always Artichoke ink pad.

Got darker yet with the shadow by rubbing the edge of the ovals on my Basic Black ink pad.

Rubbed the bottom of the flowers on my More Mustard ink pad.

Brayered Cajun Craze ink at the bottom and top of a 4.75″ square piece Whisper White card stock.

Using a Daffodil Delight Ink spot edge, smeared the ink in the middle of the card stock.

Smeared Rose Red ink on.

Smeared Marina Mist ink on.

Smeared Cherry Cobbler ink on the bottom portion of the card stock.

Added a bit of Tempting turquoise ink above the Marina Mist areas.

Adhered the Ovals and the flowers.

Sponged Basic Black ink at the bottom of the cactus to create a shadow.

Lined the very edge of the right and bottom sides of the ovals using a Basic Black marker.  Lined the bottom edge of the flowers using a Cajun Craze marker.

Added white gel pen highlights to the tops of flower and tops of the ovals.

Punched two Chocolate Chip Modern Label Punches.

Held the two punches together and cut them in half.

Added the punches to the card front.  Added More Mustard brads.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.5″ square.

You have a terrific day now.

Until my next post. . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Direct to Paper Lovely as a Tree – Tutorial #379

Wanna smear some ink today?  If so, grab those Stampin’ Up Ink spots and follow along with this tutorial.

Let’s get started. . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Lovely as a Tree and Friendly Words Wheel (Unmounted)
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Bashful Blue and Old Olive
Ink: Stampin’ Up Ink Spots – Old Olive, Crumb Cake, Not Quite Navy, Marina Mist, Early Espresso, Perfect Plum, Pretty in Pink, Rose Red, More Mustard and So Saffron
Accessories: White Gel Pen, Silver Brads, Photo Corner Punch

One thing about the Ink spots, you can get them all out in front of you and be inspired by all the luscious colors at one time.  The only problem is not being able to use each yummy color in your project.  You do have to select a few.

Using the edge of the Marina Mist Ink Spot, smeared it across the top of a 4″ x 4.5″ piece of Whisper White Card Stock.

Smeared Not Quite Navy ink across the top of the card stock.

Smeared Perfect Plum ink under the Marina Mist ink, coming from both sides of the card stock so a bit of white of the card stock shows in the middle.

Smeared So Saffron ink under the Perfect Plum ink.

Smeared Pretty in Pink ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Smeared Rose Red ink at the very bottom of the card stock.

Smeared Early Espresso ink at the very bottom of the card stock.

Added More Mustard to the horizon area of the scene (middle).

Loaded Early Espresso ink on just the tree part of the stamp omitting the grassy area of the stamp a couple trees at a time.

Using an Early Espresso marker extended the trunks of the trees.

Added a horizon line using the edge of an Early Espresso Ink Spot.

Smeared Crumb Cake ink above and below the horizon line.

Using the corner of the Old Olive ink spot, dabbed it in the leafy area of the trees.

Added More Mustard ink to the leafy area of the trees.

Added White Gel pen dots to the left sides of the tree, out lined the trunk of the trees and added dashes to the horizon area.

I unmount all of my Stampin’ Up Wheels.  Here is a tutorial link to how I did it:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2009/07/28/tool-time-unmounting-wheels/

Stamped the Friendly Words Wheel Stamp using Old Olive, lightly at the bottom of the card stock.

Added Bashful Blue and Old Olive card stock panels, Always Artichoke Photo Corner Punches and Silver Brads to the card front.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.5″ square.

I hope the tutorial has inspired you to smear a scene today.  🙂

Until my next post. . . . . .  . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Crafting With My Hailie Jade

This past week has been soooooo much fun!  This is my darling seven year old Grand Daughter, Hailie Jade.   She is the one person that I cannot seem to say no to, LOL.  She has ruled Russ and my life for the last week.  Thought I would show you some of the crafts we created.

How about these die cut stars.  They were made with the 5 point star die cut and the Big Shot Machine.  One of Hailie’s favorite tools to use.   They went together really fast so we made lots of them to hang on our trees.

Oh, by the way, I’m told that Justin Bieber Rules!  Justin who I said?  Hailie’s reply “Really Grandma, ughhhhh”.

We love to play games together so we whipped up these Bingo cards using the Stampin’ Up sets Bingo Card and Jolly Bingo Bits (from the Holiday Mini Catalog) and made everyone play Bingo on Thanksgiving.   The adults were so very competitive, LOL.  We covered the squares with the Large Buttons.

.

See why I cannot deny this little lady anything.  Even with the missing teeth she is a beauty!

Oh yeah, Hailie loves to play tic tac toe so we made up this Winter Themed board using the Stampin’ Up Snowflake punch, 2 1/2″ circle punch and 3″ squares of Not Quite Navy and Whisper White Card stock.  So simple and we played forever.  🙂

Well after all of the fun, I had to take her home to another state today, sniff, sniff,  but what memories we have made together.

Until my next post. . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Easy Bird in Flight – Tutorial #378

Like everyone else, around the holidays I am pressed for time.  Take for instance this week, I have my 7 year old Grand Daughter, Hailie Jade staying with us this week, so my time is spent re-learning the board game “Life”, making paper turkeys for place markers for our Thanksgiving Dinner etc. etc.  You know the stuff that  a 7 year old  likes to do.  🙂  I’m hoping that some of what the board game of “life” teaches me this week I will be able to apply to my real life, lol.  Because, you know, I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up yet.  Don’t you think it is about time I figure it out?

Any how, being pressed for time I decided to put together a quick tutorial for you today.  There are not many steps to this project.  I kept it clean and simple.  Enjoy!

Announcement I have added Lincoln, Illinois to my brayer workshop calendar.  Click here to get the details.  🙂

On a 3.5″ square piece of Whisper White Card stock brayered Tempting Turquoise ink at an angle on the bottom right corner.   Then brayered Not Quite Navy ink on the same corner, not covering the Tempting Turquoise ink entirely.

Stamped the bird from the Stampin’ Up set Peaceful Season using Basic Black ink.

Cut a 5″ x 6.5″ and a 3 5/8″ square pieces of Not Quite Navy Card stock.  Also added a 4.75″ x 6.25″ Whisper White Panel.  Adhered all the panels together accept for the largest Not Quite Navy Panel.

Stamped the Grasses from the Stampin’ Up Set Inspired by Nature using Basic Black ink and very firm presser on the stamp.  Because you are stamping over multiple layers of paper there will be some gaps in your grass image.  Use a Basic Black marker and fill in the gaps.

Sponged a bit of Basic Black ink at the bottom of the grasses.

Added the largest Not Quite Navy panel and here is the finished card front measuring 5″ x  6.5″.

Brayered So Saffron ink on the bottom of the card stock.

Brayered More Mustard ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the So Saffron ink entirely.

.

Brayered River Rock ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Daffodil Delight ink at the top of the card stock not covering the River Rock ink entirely.

Loaded the wonderfully Worn Background stamp with More mustard ink and dabbed the card stock face down onto the stamp design.  This gives you a really random pattern.

Continued to do the same thing, only with Cajun Craze ink and then Soft Suede ink.

Sponged Soft Suede ink over the bottom half of the card stock, lightly.

Using the Stampin’ Up Bird punch (item number 117191) punched the bird out of Basic Black card stock.

Adhered the bird and the wing to the card stock and added knobby legs to the bird with a Basic Black marker.

Using the negative part of the punched card stock as a mask, sponged Basic Gray ink inside the bird mask.

Added legs to the shadow bird lightly using a Basic Black marker and connecting them to the originals birds feet.

Sponged just a bit of Basic Black ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Stamped the writing from the Stampin’ Up set Charming (item #116519) using Soft Suede ink.

Cut 7, 1/2″ Basic Black card stock strips.

Held them together in groups and cut one end off at an angle.

Layered a 4.75″ x 6.25″ Soft Suede card stock panel on a 5″ x 6.5″ Basic Black panel and sponged Cajun Craze ink around the edges of the card stock.

Layered my Main image panel on a 4 1/8″ x 4 5/8″ Basic Black panel.  Assembled the card front.  Adhered the Basic Black card stock strips to the card front and cut the ends flush with the card front.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May your day be Golden!
