Marriage First Christmas Keepsake

Hey There,

I hope you are having the most wonderful of weekends.   I have a quick share for you today.

I just finished decorating our Christmas tree and decided to put together a Marriage First Christmas Keepsake ornament for my Son, Mitch and my new daughter-in-law Jamie.  They were just married in August so this is their first Christmas as man and wife.

The ornament was purchased at Walmart.   All you need is a clear ornament.  I found this one with all the bling on the top.   I took their wedding invitation and sliced it in pieces and then rolled each piece around a chop stick and put the invite pieces inside the ornament and shook it.  Most of the pieces were cut about 1/4″ wide.  I cut the pieces so you could read the lines of text.   Their invite had their initials and names in larger text so I cut those pieces wider so I didn’t cut into the text.

It turned out cute.  I hope if brings fond memories to them year after year.

This keepsake ornament idea would be great for Baby’s first Christmas using a copy of a birth announcement.

Now, Mitch and Jamie’s ornament turned out so cute, I decided to make a few for my tree.  I used designer series paper and silver glitter paper to make my strips for these.  It’s so sad that the photos don’t do them justice.  You just can’t see the sparkle.  Anyhow, you get the idea.  It’s a great way to use up some of the scraps you have been hoarding.   Don’t deny it, you know you have a little stack of scraps somewhere.

May your weekend be super fun!

Until my next post. . . . . .

Hugs,

Egg Productivity and Blog Candy Winner

Hey There,

I been asked a lot lately if the girls are laying.  Well, yes they are!   We have been getting about 2-3 eggs a day from them.  They are so pretty, don’t you think?  I picked up this great egg rack so we could keep track of which eggs are the oldest.  You put the egg in at the top of the rack and rolls down.  The ones at the bottom, of course are the oldest.   I say oldest with a grin because the eggs are so good that they don’t last long around here.  Especially with all the baking I’ve been doing of late.

Can you guess which eggs are from our Easter Egger Chicken, Bunny.  Come on take a guess, lol.

Three of our girls lay shades of brown and one lays a pastel green.  Any how, that’s the egg scoop right now.

I already have my 3 chicks on order for the Spring.   If you follow my blog your sure to see their arrival in pictures.

Now on with today’s tutorial. . . . .  . .

Project Supplies:

Stampin’ Up! Stamps: Scentsational Season (121190)

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Early Espresso, Soft Suede and Cherry Cobbler

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Sahara Sand and Soft Suede

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! sponge, Large and small heart punches, Clear Circle Die and Circles #2 Die, Big Shot Machine, Holiday Collection Framelits (127814), Soft Suede Taffeta Ribbon, Gold Marker, Festival of Prints Paper Stack (126904), red brads and Stampin Dimensionals

Die Cut the large circle out of Whisper White card stock using the Clear Circle Die.   Cut the smaller circle out of scrap card stock using the largest circle on the Circles #2 die.

Placed the small circle die cut in the middle of the large circle and sponged Sahara Sand ink around the edge of the small circle.  Next I edged the large plate using a Stampin’ Up! gold marker.

Stamped the Ginger bread men on Whisper White using Soft Suede ink.   Die cut the Ginger Bread men using the Holiday Colection Framelit die.

I’m making 12 of these cards this morning so I picked out 12 piece of paper from the Festival of Prints Designer Series Paper Stack.  Cut the papers down to 4.5″ square and then sponged Soft Suede around the edge of the paper to distress it.

Punch two large hearts out of Early Espresso card stock and 4 small hearts from Soft Suede card stock.   Added a 4.75″ square Early Espresso panel and then added Soft Suede Ribbon.

Added a 5.25″ square Cherry Cobbler panel and adhered the hearts to the left side corners.   Added red brads then the plate with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The Ginger bread men where adhered next.

I finished the card by adding a 5.25″ Whisper White card base.  Here is the finished card measuring 5.25″ square.

May your day be totally delightful!

Until my next post. . . . . .

Canned Spaghetti Sauce and Belly Band – Tutorial #553

Hey There,

You know I am bouncing back from my illness when I spend the entire day in the kitchen making homemade Spaghetti Sauce, with a hand crafted belly band for the jars.

Now I know I can walk into any market and get Spaghetti sauce, but if I make it myself I get such a feeling of achievement and pride.  Especially, when this sauce is used and I get to tell the people eating it that I not only canned the sauce, but grew the vegatables that it was made with.   I’m also able to say there are no preservatives or pesticides in my sauce, woot, woot!

Anyway, I’m going to show you below how the sauce was made and how the belly band that graces these jars were made.  Check it out!

Let’s make some Spaghetti Sauce. . . .

Since I was traveling alot in the summer when my garden was in full swing I was taking the ripe tomatoes, washing them and putting them in freezer bags whole and then froze them.

I accumulated a lot of tomatoes.  Here they are thawing on my counter.

I have a Kitchenaid mixer and I purchased the strainer attachment (life saver).    This makes very quick work of processing your tomatoes for sauce.

I thawed my tomatoes, cored them and then cut them in 1/4 sections.   I didn’t need to skin the tomatoes since I was using the strainer attachment on my Kitchenaid.    All you need to do is put the tomatoes in the top, use the little plunger included to push the tomatoes in and the attachment sends the juice and pulp into one bowl and the skin and seeds into another with no cranking of an hand stainer involved.  The skin and seeds are going right into the compost pile out back and then into the garden again come Spring.

The juice/pulp part of the tomato was put into a large pot and simmered on the stove until the sauce reduced by half.    You need to tend to the pot of sauce a lot by stirring it about every 5 minutes so it doesn’t burn.   Before my sauce cooked down all the way I chopped up onions and peppers using my food processor.   I simmered the onions and peppers in a skillet with a little olive oil before adding them to the sauce.    You can season your sauce to taste.   I added Italian seasoning, fresh basil and a bit of garlic.   Go easy on the garlic.  The garlic will increase in strength over time in the jar.  It’s your sauce make it to your taste!

As you can see below my sauce reduced by half, now I’m ready to put it in the jars.

I sterilized my jars and lids and added 1 tablespoon of lemon juice into each jar before filling it with the sauce.   Wiped the rims of the jars and added the lids and hand tightened.  I processed my smaller jars for 35 minutes and the quart jars for 40 minutes using a water bath canner.

Here is my yummy sauce.

Now these jars of sauce are beautiful to me even with out a label, but I wanted to make them extra special by adding a belly band.  Plus, I got to

********************************************

Making of the Belly Band. . . . .

Project Supplies:

Card Stock: Stampin’ Up! Very Vanilla, Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler

Ink: Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler

Accessories: Stampin’ Up! My Digital Studio2, sponge, Decorative label punch, Brads, Stampin’ Dimensionals, piercing tools, Square Lattice Embossing Folder, Apothecary Accents Framelits, Big Shot Machine, sticky strip.

Created the tomato and text using My Digital Studio 2 and then printed it on Very Vanilla card stock and punched it out with the Decorative Label punch.

Die cut a label out of Old Olive card stock using an Apothecary Accents Framelit and the Big Shot Machine.  Sponged Cherry Cobbler ink on the edges of the Old Olive die cut and the tomato label.

Embossed the Old Olive label using the Big Shot Machine and the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.   Adhered the tomato label to the Old Olive label using Stampin’ Dimensionals so it would pop up.

Ahered the labels on a 1.75″ wide piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock and added real red brads.   The length of the Cherry Cobbler strip will vary with the size of your jar.

Adhered the belly bands on the jars using sticky strip so they won’t fall off or slide down.

Here are my stepped up jars of sauce, yummy!

May your day be filled with love and laughter.
