Thank you so much for all the Birthday wishes yesterday. 🙂 I had a lovely day at the Cincinnati Zoo and then had dinner with loved ones. So my birthday turned out to be a perfect day.

Now regarding the tutorial today, I have noticed the weather is turning cooler already here in Ohio and it is only September 1st. It has put me in the mood for a Halloween scene. This was created with my unmounted Stampin’ Up Wheel Stamp, Haunting. Grab you brayer and play along. 🙂

Let’s get started. . . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Unmounted Jumbo Wheel Haunting

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Apricot Appeal, Basic Black, Perfect Plum

Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Elegant Eggplant, Pumpkin Pie & Apricot Appeal

Accessories: Silver Brads, Brayer, 1 3/4″ circle Punch, Sponge, White Gel Pen, Acrylic Block, Post it Note

Brayered Apricot Appeal ink at the top of a 3.5″ x 6″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Masked the moon with a 1 3/4″ circle punch, punched from the stick part of a post it note.

Brayered Pumpkin Pie ink over the mask at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Elegant Eggplant at the top of the card stock, not covering the Pumpkin Pie ink entirely.

Removed the post it note mask from the moon and sponged a bit of Elegant Eggplant ink on creating a cloud shape.

Added a bit of Basic Black ink with a sponge in the center of the cloud shapes.

Stamped the Unmounted Wheel Stamp, Haunting across the bottom of the card stock with Basic Black ink.

Added White Gel pen highlights and colored in their eyes with the same white gel pen.

Added a few dots in the sky with a white gel pen and sponged some Basic Black ink at the bottom of the main image panel before assembling the panel layers. Also added 4 silver brads.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Direct Trendy Trees – Totorial #254

Happy Sunday! Sunday is usually my chill out day. A day when I just put my feet up and relax. Today however, I felt I should give you fine readers a tutorial since I have been busy prepping for my September brayer workshops and yesterday I was in Greenwood, Indiana teaching some super fun ladies at Sharon’s Crop Studio. That being said, I have not had the time in the past few days to sit down and create.

I put together this Autumn card using Stampin’ Up Classic Ink pads using the direct to paper method for the background. This card also highlights the Stampin’ Up Trendy Tree set and two new sets that are in the new Stampin’ Up Holiday Mini Catalog, Autumn Splendor and Grateful Greets, must have sets!

I created this card the other day and got a few e-mails asking me why I had used the Tim Holtz Distress ink pads instead of using Stampin’ Up ink pads.

Below is a picture of the Stampin’ Up ink pad on the left and the Tim Holtz Distress ink pads on the right. There is a really big, big difference in how much the pad is raised above the pad base with the Distress ink pads. So that is why when I do a direct to paper project and I want to smear the ink directly on the card stock using the ink pad, I will reach for my Distress ink pads. They are much easier to use because of how much the pad is raised off of the base.

Don’t get me wrong you can do the same method with the Stampin’ Up ink pads because the pad is raised off the base a bit. Todays tutorial demonstrates it. 🙂

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.Sponged Apricot Appeal ink in the center of the leaves and then colored over the sponged ink with a Veramark marker and heat embossed the images again using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped the Leaves 4 more times by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then Always Artichoke ink before stamping them. Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Sponged Pumpkin Pie ink in the middle of the leaves and colored over the sponged ink with a Versmark marker and heat embossed the images with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped the Trunks by first loading my stamp with Versamark and Close to Cocoa ink before stamping them. Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Smeared Certainly Celery ink on the card stock using the edge of the Stamp pad.

Smeared Always Artichoke ink at the bottom of the card stock using the edge of the ink pad.

Smeared Close to Cocoa ink at the top and bottom of the card stock using the edge of the ink pad. Used the corner of the Close to Cocoa pad to smear a shadow under each tree trunk.

Outlined the right sides of the tree trunk with a Basic Black marker.

Sponged Black ink around the edge of the card stock.

Stamped the leaf from the Stampin Up “Autumn Splendor” set by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then with Pumpkin pie ink before stamping it on a scrap of Whisper White card stock. Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Smeared Apricot Appeal ink over the embossed leaf using the edge of the ink pad.

Smeared on some Always Artichoke ink on the leaf using the edge of the ink pad.

Colored the stem and a few veins of the leaf in with an Always Artichoke marker.

Cut out the leaf with a pair of Stampin’ Up Paper Snips, love these little sharp scissor by the way. 🙂

Assembled my card and stamped the greeting using a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement and Basic Black ink.

Here is the completed card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Hey it is now time for me to relax and put my feet up, right after I answer my e-mails, check my P.O. Box, update my accounting paperwork for my business, do some laundry, feed the dogs and the bird, make some breakfast, do the dishes etc, etc. . . . . . . . . . Thank goodness it is not Monday! Sigh. .. .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Branched Out

Paper: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Whisper White, Apricot Appeal , Lavender Lace

Ink: Stampin’ Up Going Gray, Lovely Lilac, Basic Black and Apricot Appeal

Accessories: Brayer, White Gel Pen, White Ribbon, Brads, Stampin’ Up Dots Texture Plate, Big Shot Die Cut Machine, sponge

On a 2.5″ x 4.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock brayered Apricot Appeal ink at the top of the card stock.

Brayered Lovely Lilac ink at the top of the card stock, not covering the Apricot Appeal ink entirely.

Stamped the tree with Basic Black ink.

Stamped the leaf stamp with Going Gray ink, leaving the middle of the tree open.

Added a lot of Basic Black leaves, leaving a bit of the Going Gray leaves showing towards the middle of the tree.

Sponged Basic Black ink at the top of the card stock and at the bottom of the card stock.

Added White Gel Pen highlights (dots) in the trees leaves and on the ground.

Used my Big Shot Die cut machine and the Stampin’ Up Small Dot Texture plate on a piece of Lavender Lace card stock and the other side of the Texture plate, Large Dots on the Apricot Appeal Panel.

Brayered Apricot Appeal ink over the Apricot Appeal Panel to bring out the texture more.

Brayered Lovely Lilac ink over the Lavender Lace panel to bring out the texture more.

Dragged my Basic Black ink pad over one end of the Lavender Lace Lilac panel.

Assembled the card and added White Ribbon and brads.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Fifth Avenue Peace Rose – Tutorial #251

Hey there, I am back from playing around in Put-in-bay. I had a wonderful couple of days drinking and eating my way around the Island. 🙂

But now I need to get back to the real world. So I am starting my day off with a little coloring fun with the stunning Stampin’ Up set “Fifth Avenue Floral”. My favorite Rose is the “Peace Rose” which is a Rose with a color combination of Pinks and Yellows and so here is my interpretation of that wonderful rose.

Let’s get started. . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Fifth Avenue Floral

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Apricot Appeal, Cameo Coral, Chocolate Chip, Basic Black

Ink: Stampin’ Up Apricot Appeal, Chocolate Chip and Cameo Coral

Accessories: Stampin’ Up Markers, Metal Gold Sharpie Paint Marker, Versamark Marker, Clear embossing powder and a heat gun, sponge, Melon Mambo

Stamped the rose on a 2.5″ x 3.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock with Cameo Coral ink.

Colored in the rose with a Barely Banana Marker.

Added Pretty in Pink marker.

Added Apricot Appeal marker where the Pink and yellow meet in on the petals.

Outlined the petals with Cameo Coral marker.

Blended the colors together by coloring over the entire rose again with Barely Banana marker.

Colored over the rose with Versamark marker and heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Sponged Chocolate Chip ink in a circular motion on the card stock.

Sponged Apricot Appeal ink at the upper left hand corner of the card stock.

Used a Metallic Gold Sharpie Marker on the edge of the main image panel and a 5.25″ square Chocolate Chip panel.

Added an Apricot Appeal and Cameo Corner Panel and Melon Mambo polka dot ribbon.

Added a shadow around the rose image with a Close to Cocoa marker.

Added a 5.5″ Basic Black panel and here is the finished card measuring 5.5″ square.

In The Spotlight – Tutorial #250

I am currently vacationing on Put-in-Bay Island getting some much needed R & R, but before I left I put together this tutorial for you. I set it to post while I was gone so hopefully it posted when I wanted it to. 🙂 Woohoo, this is my 250th tutorial by the way.

Anyway, enjoy and I will be back on Monday.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Animal Stories and Circle Circus

Ink: Stampin’ Up Tempting Turquoise, Going Gray, Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, Night of Navy, Bashful Blue

Card stock: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Bashful Blue, Night of Navy and Cameo Coral

Accessories: Versamark marker and pad, Brayer, clear embossing powder, heat gun, Stampin’ Up Piercing tools, post it notes, Bashful Blue Brads, Sponge, White Gel pen and Cameo Coral marker

On a 2.5″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White stamped the Elephant by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then with Going Gray ink before stamping it. Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored over the image with a Versamark marker to protect the white parts showing through the image and heat embossed the image again with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped the Circle design by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then loading it with Tempting Turquoise before stamping it. Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the flowers in the circle in with a Cameo Coral marker.

Colored over the entire ball with a Versamark marker to protect the flowers on it. Heat embossed the image again with clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Masked the bottom of the card stock with a post it note.

Brayered Bashful Blue at an angle on the right and left side of the card stock.

Brayered a little bit of Night of Navy ink at the same angles as in the last step, but not covering all of the Bashful Blue ink.

Removed the inky mask and added a fresh one, this time masking the top of the card stock.

Brayered Really Rust ink in the unmasked area.

Wiped the ink off of the embossed images with a cotton cloth.

Added a shadow underneath the ball using a sponge and Chocolate chip ink.

Assembled the card and added strips of Cameo Coral card stock. Put Bashful Blue brads on each end of the strips and used my Stamping up piercing tools to added pierced lines on each strip.

Used my white gel pen to go from pierced hole to pierced hole creating some faux stitching. Also added a bit of white gel pen to the top of the elephant as a highlight.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Monogram Nest – Tutorial #249

Today’s tutorial shows how to make a panel look like it is receding with a quick outline using two markers. Let’s get right into it.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Nature’s Nest, Lovely Letters Alphabet, Forever Flowers Wheel

Paper: Stampin’ Up Designer Paper, Whisper White, Chocolate Chip

Ink: Stampin’ Up So Saffron, Chocolate Chip and More Mustard

Accessories: Stampin’ Up Markers, Prismacolor Markers, Versamark Pad & Marker, Clear embossing powder, heat gun, Sponge, post it notes, White Gel Pen, Ribbon, Gold Brads, Brayer

Stamped Nest on a piece of Whisper White by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then loading it with Chocolate Chip ink before stamping it. I started out with a larger piece of whisper white and cut it down after stamping to 2.5″ x 3.75″.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the image in with a Wheat Prismacolor marker.

Colored the leaves using a Light Olive Green Prismacolor Marker.

Added Mocha Dark Prismacolor marker to the bottom of the eggs and the bottom of the nest.

Colored over the image being careful to not go outside the embossed image with a Versamark marker and heat embossed the entire image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Brayered the top of the card stock using So Saffon ink.

Created a Shadow under the nest with a Sand Prismacolor Marker.

Added Light Tan Prismacolor Marker to the shadow under the nest.

Added a bit of Mocha Dark Prismacolor Marker right under the nest.

Brayered a bit of More Mustard ink at the very top of the card stock.

Sponged More Mustard around the edges of a Designer Paper Panel that measures 4″ x 5.5″.

Added a 4 7/8″ x 5 7/8″ Whisper White Panel. Stamped my unmounted Forever Flowers Wheel Stamp with More Mustard on each side of the card stock. I masked the corners with post it notes at a diagonal each time I stamped a side so my images at the corners would have a mitered look.

Note: Press hard when stamping since you are stamping over multiple layers of paper. This helps give you a better image.

Colored the leaves in with a Certainly Celery marker and Sponged More Mustard around the edges of the card stock.

Sponged Chocolate Chip ink around the edges of both the large panel and the main image panel.

Colored the flowers in with a Bashful Blue marker, added Brocade Blue marker to the petals and then colored the Center of the flowers and the dots in the design in with a White Gel Pen. Also added white Gel pen highlights to the top edges of the eggs in the nest.

Assembled the card adding a Chocolate Chip panel under the main image panel and a 5″ x 6.5″ chocolate Chip panel at the very back.

Decided to make the Design paper panel look like it was receded so I outlined it with a Chocolate Chip marker and then used the Wide Chiseled end of a French Grey 30% Prismacolor marker to outline it again. This creates the illusion by looking like a shadow.

Stamped the Lovely Lettes Alphabet “Z” with Chocolate Chip ink.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to add a shadow on one of your card panels to create a little depth. 🙂

Frosted Pane – Tutorial #248

Surprise, surprise, my tutorial today is not the typical one you see here on my blog. It only has a few steps so it whips up in no time at all. Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ U Serene Snowflakes

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White and Brilliant Blue

Ink: Stampin’ Up Brilliant Blue

Accessories: Versamark pad, Sponge, Clear embossing powder, heat gun

Stamped snowflake on a 4″ square piece of Whisper White card stock using Versamark only. Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun to protect the white of the card stock under the image.

Sponged Brilliant Blue ink on the snowflake starting in the middle and working in a circular motion gradually working outward. Every time I re-inked my sponge I started back in the middle. This helps keep the center dark and then it fades outward.

Sponged Brilliant Blue ink around the outside edge of a 5 1/8″ piece of Whisper White.

Layered by white panels with Brilliant Blue Panels. That’s all there is to it. 🙂

I hope you have been inspired to try a simple, but elegant card today.

On a different note, I traveled to Lynchburg Virginia on Thursday, August 13th and just returned yesterday. I was there teaching workshops to some extremely fun ladies. I drive to most of my workshop location, unless they are more than 13 hours away, then I fly. I have the very best job in the world right now going from one location in the United States to another. This time I went through Ohio, West Virginia and then Virginia. Here are a few sites I seen along the way on the scenic Byway Route 64.

Seen lots of Deer. I past one group that were standing on the road in a circle having a conversation, lol.

These last photos were taken early morning on my return trip. I hit the road at 3:00 a.m. to beat the traffic. 🙂 My very early starts also give me a chance to view this.

Where did the road go?

Medallion Sun – Tutorial #246

Hey Everyone, I am on cloud nine! I returned home yesterday from teaching some terrific ladies in Columbia, Missouri to find this in my mailbox. I am the Featured Artist in the September 2009 issue of the Craft Stamper Magazine. I’m grinning from ear to ear, lol. I knew it was coming but to see it in print is a real thrill.

I don’t seek out publication, but I don’t turn it down when asked either, lol. Anyway, it was a nice return home gift. 🙂 If you are not familiar with the Craft Stamper Magazine it is the United Kingdom’s Number 1 Stamping Magazine. Here are a couple of photos that were taken at the workshops this weekend in Columbia, Missouri. Just look at those happy stampers!

Now about today’s tutorial, when I seen this Medallion stamp in Stampin’ Up’s new catalog I just had to have it and my mind immediately told me to use it as a sun. So here it is on paper teamed up with the Stampin’ Up set Branch Out, which is on the dormant list and still available under item number 113200. 🙂

Let’s get crankin on this tutorial. . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Medallion and Branch Out

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise and Basic Black

Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip, Not Quite Navy, Tempting Turquoise and Apricot Appeal

Accessories: Stampin’ Up Piercing Tools, Gold Brads, Brayer, Clear embossing powder, Heat Gun, Sponges, Post it notes

Stamped Tree on a 4.5″ x 5.5″ piece of Whisper White Card Stock by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then with Basic Black ink before stamping it.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Brayered Apricot Appeal ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Ripped through the sticky part of two post it notes and used them to mask the ground area of the piece.

Now you will want to make sure you brayered ink is completely dry before going on to this step.

Stamp the medallion stamp with Versamark on to your main image panel.

Heat emboss it using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Sponged Tempting Turquoise ink around the Medallion image.

Sponged Pumpkin Pie ink in the middle area of the Medallion.

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink in the sky area, not covering the Tempting Turquoise ink entirely.

Sponged Pumpkin Pie ink in the ground area.

Sponged Chocolate Chip ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Pumpkin Pie ink entirely.

Sponged Basic Black ink around the edges of the card stock and in the ground area.

Used my Stampin’ Up Piercing tool and mats to make holes for my Brads. This really helps to keep them straight.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

A Butterfly’s Bad Day – Tutorial #241

Now about this wacky tutorial today, lol. I like to challenge myself to use stamps that are seasonal in the off season, clear as mud. 🙂 Anywho, this is one of the Stampin’ Up wheels that I unmounted yesterday. It is called Arachnophobia. I consider this a Halloween stamp and was so happy to get another use out of it. Wouldn’t this card make you laugh if you were having a ruff time and someone sent it to you? How can you look at those goofy spiders and not grin, at least.

Let’s get on with the tutorial. . . . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Arachnophobia Wheel and Dreams Du Jour

Paper: Stampin’ Up Lavender Lace, Tempting Turquoise, Basic Black & Whisper White

Ink: Stampin’ Up Tempting Turquoise & Basic Black

Accessories: Stamp-a-ma-jig, White Gel Pen, Prismacolor Pencil, Paper Snips, Old Olive Brads, Piercing Tool, Sponge, Post it notes and Ruler

I drew the spiderweb using a ruler and a White Gel Pen on a piece of Black card stock. The card stock started out larger than when I finished. I ended up cropping it down to 3″ square.

I masked the corners with post it notes to miter the stamped image so they would look more uniformed where they met each other.

Stamped the unmounted “Arachnophobia” stamp using Basic Black ink and a Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement. Repeated the masking and stamping process for each side of the card stock.

Colored the spider’s eyes in with a White Gel Pen.

Colored the Spiders bodies in with a Spring Green Prismacolor pencil.

Stamped the Butterfly from the “Dreams du Jour” set on a piece of Whisper White Card stock.

Colored the butterfly with a Tempting Turquoise marker and the Spring Green Prismacolor Pencil.

Cut the Butterfly out with my paper snips.

Edged the butterfly with my White Gel pen so it would stand out more. If I had been thinking I would have just left some white card stock around the butterfly as I was cutting it out.

Sponged Tempting Turquoise ink around the edge of the spider panel.

Assembled the card front and added Old Olive brads to the front of the card using a piercing tool to start the brads.

Finished assembling the card and here it is finished measuring 5.5″ square.

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to look at those seasonal stamps in a different light.

In the Fog (Nontraditional colors) – Tutorial #239

Are you in the Fog today? I am, lol. This is a photo I snap this morning. It is a scene we see often out in the country where I live. Fog, fog, fog, I love it when I don’t have to drive in it. 🙂

Barn look familiar? It is the barn in my blog banner. I painted the pastel painting a few years ago and although the painting was sold I still use it as my banner.

Anyway, the fog made me want to create a foggy type scene today in my tutorial.

Sometimes I feel like I am in a rut so today I picked up some nontraditional colors to create my scene with. I also kept pulling out stamp sets. I used four Stampin’ Up sets, using one image out of each, lol.

By using all of those stamps I must have been making up for taking the day off yesterday. I was feeling a bit burned out so I took the day off completely “Mental Health Day”. My Husband, Russ got to hang out with me too. He proclaimed the day “No Fretting Thursday”. Which meant we agreed to not talk about work or home improvements not completed. We also spent the day hopping from on Garage sale to another. It was great!

So today I am back and refreshed, but have loads of things to do to prepare for my Dayton, Ohio Workshops tomorrow. I will be teaching at Marcos Paper, which I am always excited about doing. If you have not been to Marcos before, you must make the trip if you can. The store is a little piece of heaven for us stampers. Stamps: Stampin’ Up Itty Bitty Background, Pendant Park, Thoughts & Prayers, Lovely As a Tree

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black, Bordering Blue Pink Pirquette

Ink: Stampin’ Up Pink Pirquette, Rose Red, Bravo Burgundy, Bordering Blue, Basi Black

Accessories: Versmark Pad, Brayer, Stampin’ Up Piercing Tools, White Gel Pen, Silver Brads, Post it note, Sponges, Big Shot Die Cut Machine, Square Texture Plate, Clear embossing Powder, Heat Gun

Stamped the Tree from the Stampin’ Up set “Thoughts & Prayers” by first loading the stamp with Versamark, then Pink Pirquette and then tapped on some black ink ont he trunk before stamping the image on a 3.5″ x 4.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Loaded Bordering Blue ink only on the tree part of the “Lovely As a Tree” stamp, omitting the ground area of the stamp. Stamped it twice at the top of the card stock.

Sponged Bordering Blue ink a the top of the card stock.

Sponged Rose Red ink at the top of the tree.

Sponged Pink Pirquette ink below the Bordering Blue ink.

Sponged Rose Red ink below the Pink Pirquette ink.

Sponged Bordering Blue ink at the base of the large tree to create a shadow.

Stamped the bench from the new Stampin’ Up set “Pendant Park” twice with Basic Black ink.

Masked the top of the card stock with a post it note and sponged Bordering Blue ink at the base of the benches to create a shadow for them.

Used the Speckle stamp and Rose Red ink to added the speckles at the bottom of the card stock.

Sponged a bit of Bravo Burgundy ink at the bottom of the card stock and the very top of the tree.

Added White Gel Pen highlight to the tree, squirrels and benches.

Sponged Basic Black ink all around the edge of the card stock.

Used my Big Shot die cut machine and the Squares texture plate to emboss a Bordering Blue panel.

Brayered Bordering Blue ink over the embossed panel to bring out the texture more.

Sponged Basic Black ink around the outside edges of the Bordering Blue and Pink Pirquette panels.

Used my piercing tool to start my holes for the four silver brads.

Added a thin strip of black card stock to the Bordering Blue panel and then pierced holes down the center of it.

Used my white gel pen again to create the faux stitching on the card by dragging my pen from one pierced hole to the next, stopping in each hole with the pen.

Here is the complete card measuring 5.5″ square.
