Time Goes By So Swiftly – Tutorial #233

Looking at my Grand Daughter below with her cake that she help me make last night I want to tear up. I swear it was just yesterday that she was born and here she is turning 6 years old. Happy Birthday Hailie Jade. Your are the light of my life!

So with that being said I wanted to create a card today that reflected time in some manner. So here it is.

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Sense of Time and Thoughts & Prayers

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Dusty Durango, Bashful Blue and Basic Black

Ink: Stampin’ Up White, Basic Black, Old Olive, Always Artichoke, Dusty Durango, Not Quite Navy, Bashful Blue & Apricot Appeal

Accessories: Brayer, Clear embossing powder, heat gun, Versamark pad, Post it notes, sponge, White Gel Pen, Sakura Souffle Pens in Orange and light blue.

Stamped Clock on a 4″ square piece of Whisper White card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then with Basic Black ink before stamping it.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Masked the bottom of the card stock with a post it note and flipped it upside down and brayered Apricot Appeal ink on the card stock.

Flipped the card stock right side up and Brayered on Bashful Blue ink.

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink on the card stock, not covering the Bashful Blue up entirely.

Brayered Dusty Durango ink on the Apricot Appeal ink, not covering it entirely.

Took the old Post it note mask off and put a new one on to cover the sky area. Sponged Old Olive ink on the unmasked area.

Sponged Always Artichoke ink on the right hand side of the card stock.

Sponged Basic Black ink on the Right side of the card stock, not covering the Always Artichoke ink up entirely.

Stamped the tree by first loading the stamp with Old Olive ink. Then added Always Artichoke ink to one side of the tree leaves and Basic Black ink to the trunk before stamping it.

Sponged Basic Black ink all the way around the card stock edge and under the tree to create a shadow.

Stamped the gears twice with Basic Black ink.

Added White Gel pen hightlights to the tree and a few dots in the grassy area.

Layered the main image panel with a Dusty Durango Panel, Bashful Blue Panel and Basic Black Panel. Stamped the top of the tree at the bottom of the Black panel with White Craft (Pigment) ink.

Added Sakura Souffle pens in Orange and light blue to some of the leaves.

Added another Bashful Blue Panel and Basic Black panel. Here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May we all slow down for a moment today and just enjoy life.

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the dots of the Giraffe in with an Apricot Appeal marker.

Colored over the Apricot Appeal marker and the white of the Giraffe’s eye with a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped these flower images from the Stampin’ Up Set “Embrace Life” by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then loading the stamp with Close to Cocoa ink before stamping it. Loaded and stamped the image 3 times.

Heat embossed the flower images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Colored the flowers in with an Apricot Appeal and a More Mustard marker.

Colored over the colored flowers with a Versamark marker and then heat embossed the flowers using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Brayered the New In Color ink “Bermuda Bay” at the top right hand corner of the card stock.

Brayered Bermuda Bay ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Sponged the new In Color Ink “Dusty Durango” at the bottom of the card stock.

Created a shadow and some depth to the Giraffe by outlining some of the image with a Basic Black marker.

Used the Ticket Corner Punch on the main image panel and the Handsome Hunter Panel that will go under it.

Sponged Handsome Hunter ink at the top right hand corner of the main image panel.

Added White Gel pen dots in the grassy area.

Sponged Handsome Hunter ink at the top Right Corner and bottom of a 5″ square Apricot Appeal Panel. Also sponged Dusty Durango ink at the bottom of the same panel.

Assembled the card and added ribbon and gold brads, white dots on the Apricot appeal panel and here it is finished measuring 5.5″ square.

I hope you are looking forward to the new Stampin’ Up catalog that comes out July 1st as much as I am!

Just for the heck of it, I thought I would share with you the project I completed yesterday in my garden. That’s right I garden in my spare time (LOL spare time, right).

I installed this fountain at the side of my house where everyone enters off of the drive way.

It is one of those fountains that bubbles over the top and down the jar sides. I was happy with the outcome. 🙂

Sneak Peek Asian Artistry – Tutorial #222

Well my Stampin’ Up Pre-Catalog Order came in yesterday afternoon along with my copy of the new Catalog that will be in effect July 1st. Holy Moly! I was out weeding in the garden when the UPS truck pulled in. I literally dropped everything, weeds, gardening gloves, tools and ran toward the truck, lol. In fact my gardening stuff is still laying out there, grin. I did manage to wash my hands before opening the box. There it was my new catalog! Off to the swing in the yard I went with my catalog and sat there for about an hour and a half just leafing through it, savoring it. It’s an addiction I tell you!!! Oh, but wait after looking at the catalog I ran into the house because I almost forgot about the pre-order sets I was able to get since I am a Demonstrator and the new in colors. . . . . . . Hello they are gorgeous!

Like, check out this new Hostess Level II set “Asian Artistry” that I am using in this tutorial, love it! Just remember that this set will not be available to hostesses until July 1st.

Anyway, I could not wait to stamp it on paper so here it is colored with Prismacolor Pencils and Odorless Paint Thinner.

Paper: Stampin’ Up Real Red & Basic Black

Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black & Close to Cocoa

Accessories: Stampin’ Up Ticket corner & Window Punches, Prismacolor Pencils, Mona Lisa Odorless Paint Thinner, Sponges, White Gel Pen, Basic Black marker, Gold Brads, Sharpie Metallic Gold Marker

Sponged Close to Cocoa on a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Real Red card stock.

Sponged Basic Black ink at the top of the card stock.

Stamped the bird image 3 times using Basic Black ink.

Now look at this new item from Innovative Stamp Creations, it’s their version of the reverse image stamp. They call it the Opposite Stamp. This stamp is only $4.

I stamped the bird stamp on the Opposite Stamp with Basic Black ink and then stamped it on my card stock to create a verse image of the original. 🙂

Any time you do a reverse image it stamps lighter than the original image so you will need to go over the image with a marker to darken it, unless you like the lighter effect.

Now it is time for some coloring fun.

I used my Prismacolor pencils and a little bit of Odorless Paint Thinner in a little container to color my panel images. When you dip the tip of your Prismacolor pencil in the Paint Thinner and than color with it, it melts like butter onto your card stock. It blends beautifully too.

Note this method works great on darker card stock.

Dipping the point of my pencil in the Odorless Paint Thinner before coloring, added a bit of Limepeel Prismacolor Pencil to the tops of the black leaves.

Colored in the bellies of the birds with Odorless Paint Thinner and White Prismacolor Pencil.

Added Deco Yellow to the birds wings and bellies.

Added Spanish Orange to the birds.

Time for some White Gel pen highlights.

Used the Stampin’ Up Ticket Corner Punch on the main image panel.

Used my Sharpie Metallic Gold Medium Point Paint marker on the edges of the main image panel and another Real Red panel of card stock.

Punch twice the Stampin’ Up Window Punch out of black card stock. Cut one end off of both punches.

Assembled the card and here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Now a bit about today’s tutorial, I brayered the background on this at an angle to create a bit more interest in the scene. I also added a shadow at the flower pot base to create some depth. Grab a cup of your favorite beverage and hang out a while.

Ink: Stampin’ Up Kiwi Kiss, Not Quite Navy, Night of Navy & Bordering Blue, Palette Noir Black

Accessories: Versamark Pad & Marker, Clear embossing powder & a heat gun, Brayer, Sponge, Piercing Tool, Prismacolor Markers, White Gel Pen, Stampin’ Up Ticket Corner Punch

On a 4.5″ square piece of Whisper White card stock I stamped the sentiment by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then with Kiwi Kiss Dye based ink before stamping it. Then heat embossed it using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.Stamped the pot of flowers with Palette Hybrid Noir Black ink. After stamping it, I heated the ink a bit with my heat gun to set it. This helps to keep it from smearing.

I colored the shaded areas of the pot with a Prismacolor Cloud Blue marker.

Added a bit of Cold Stone marker to the the pot, just below the leaves.

Colored the flowers with Deco Pink marker.

Added Violet Mist marker to the center of the flowers.

Colored the leaves with Lime Green marker.

Added Light Olive Green to the dark areas of the leaves.

Put a dot of Parma Violet marker in the center of the flowers.

Colored over the flowers and pot with a Versamark marker and then heat embossed it using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Now that I have my images all heat embossed they will resist the ink I put on for the background.

Brayered Bordering Blue ink at an angle on the bottom of the card stock.

Flipped the panel upside down and brayered Bordering Blue ink at the top of the card stock at an angle.

I felt I need a break in the background so I stamped the flourish twice with Bordering Blue ink.

Wiped the ink off of my embossed images with a cotton towel.

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink around the edge of the card stock and to the right and under the flower pot to create a shadow.

Sponged Night of Navy at the very edges of the card stock and a little right under the pot to get a deeper shadow.

Used the Stampin’ Up Ticket Corner punch on my main image panel and a 4 5/8″ square Whisper White Panel.

Adhered a 5 3/8″ Square Lovely Lilac Panel to a 5.5″ Square Not Quite Navy Panel and then Sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the corners of the Lovely Lilac panel.

Adhered all of my panels together and added a dot of White Gel pen right in the center of the flowers to make them pop a bit more.

Used my Piercing tool to start my brads in the corners.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.5″ Square.

Moon Light Cool Cat – Tutorial

A couple times a year I have to get this old Stampin’ Up set “Cool Cat” out and work with it. Love this cat! This morning I felt like getting out the bright colors to liven things up a bit.

Let’s get started. 🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up “Cool Cat”

Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black & Tempting Turquoise

Ink: Stampin’ Up Tempting Turquoise, Summer Sun, Chocolate Chip, Ruby Red, Basic Black & Wild Wasabi

Accessories: Stamp-a-ma-jig, Coluzzle, Tim Holtz Distressing Tool and Ruler, Piercing Tool, White Gel Pen, Bordering Blue marker, Blush Blossom Marker, Black Marker, Sponges

Cut a 2.5″ circle with my Coluzzle out of card stock.

Note: This morning I used a circle cut previously and used in a different project. Nice to keep these things on hand and re-use them.

Used the circle as a mask for the moon. I just held it in place as I worked.

Traced a fine line around the mask with a Bordering Blue marker on a 4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Sponged on some Summer Sun ink.

Sponged on Some Tempting Turquoise ink.

Sponged on some Wild Wasabi ink.

Sponged on some Ruby Red ink.

Sponged on some Chocolate Chip ink.

Removed mask.

Sponged some Summer Sun ink inside of the moon to the left side.

Using my Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement, stamped Cool Cat with Basic Black ink.

Sponged some Black ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Used a white gel pen to color in the whites of the cat’s eyes.

Colored in the Cat’s ears with a Blush Blossom Marker.

Added some dots to the background to look like distant stars.

Figured out what layout I wanted to use and cut my panels.

Distressed the main image panel and the Tempting Turquoise panel with a Tim Holtz distress tool.

Dragged the edges of all sides of the main image panel over the black ink.

sponged Tempting Turquoise ink around the edges of the Tempting Turquoise panel.

Drew in lines using a Tim Holtz ruler and White Gel pen to create a look of brick.

Drew a black line under the cat to create the top of the wall and colored in the top bricks with the black marker to make it flow better from one layer to the next.

The Tim Holtz ruler has holes in it that you can use your piercing tool with to create a faux stitching look.

Punched my holes around the edge of the card stock and then used a white gel pen and ran it from one hole to the next to create the stitching.

Here you have it the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

Framed Scene – Tutorial and More Blog Candy

I’m feeling generous today. It is my last day at work before my vacation starts. YIPEEEE! So today I have a tutorial for you and the finished piece is being given away as blog candy.

A little about the frame. I don’t buy new frames for anything. I like to poke around at thrift stores, flea markets and garage/barn sales for them. When looking at framed pictures for sale, I’m really looking at the frame. What is inside of the frame doesn’t matter, because I’m going to throw it away. The little frame I used today is solid wood and has a nice easel back to it and I paid 25 cents for it. I also buy really large wood framed pictures, generally not paying more than $2 for them and use them for my pastel paintings. New they run from $50 to $75. I found I can pick the frame before I do a painting and then paint it using the dimension I need so it will fit in the frame (cart before the horse I guess, lol). I also cut my own mats, big savings also.

Ok, enough about that, on with the tutorial. 🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Spring Solitude & Lovely as a Tree

Paper: Stampin Up Whisper White & Basic Black

Ink: Stampin’ Up Blue Bayou, Perfect Plum, Close to Cocoa, More Mustard, Basic Black, Soft Sky & Pale Plum

Accessories: Brayer, Post it Notes, Sponges, White Gel Pen, Fine point Black marker, Frame

Brayered Soft Sky ink on the top 1/2 of a 6″ x 3″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

Tore Post it Notes (through the sticky part) to use as a mask for the sky while I put in the horizon line.

Sponged on More Mustard ink being darkest at the post it note edge.

Removed mask and stamped bird with Basic Black ink.

Tore a new piece of post it note to use to mask the sky and create a mountain in the distance. Sponged Pale Plum ink in the open area. Opps! Missed the photo of this.

Used torn post it notes again for a mask to create another mountain in the distance and sponged on Perfect Plum ink so it is a little darker than the first mountain.

Removed masks and used a White Gel pen to define the birds wing and eye.

Used a fine point marker to put dots on the ground at the birds feet to simulate bird feed.

Sponged a little Blue Bayou ink at the top of the sky to give it some drama.

Stamped two pine trees at the left of the piece with Basic Black ink.

Sponged More Mustard ink on to create a shadow for the trees and for the bird.

Sponged on a little Close to Cocoa ink in the middle of the tree shadows to give a little more depth.

Added a Black card stock panel and here it is finished.

Stardust Morning MZ – Tutorial

Stamped Sun on a 4.5″ x 4.5″ piece of Whisper White Card stock with Basic Black ink.

Sponged on So Saffron Ink, leaving a light spot in the middle of the sun.

Sorry about the photos, I can’t believe how blue this Almost Amethyst ink is looking in the photos. It really is purple, lol.

Sponged Almost Amethyst ink in the sky area of the card stock.

Tore post it notes through the sticky part to mask the sky area of the card stock.

Sponged on Wild Wasabi ink on the unmasked area to create a hill.

Sponged Basic Black in at the torn edge of the post it notes.

Removed mask.

Inked only the tree part of the stamp (I didn’t want to stamp the grassy part of the stamp).

Stamped Trees with Basic Black ink on both sides of the sun.

Extended the tree trunks with a Black marker.

Added So Saffron Marker to the Sun image.

Colored a little bit of outline on the sun image with an Almost Amethyst marker.

Sponged a little Wild Wasabi ink on the trees.

Attached a panel of So Saffron card stock to a panel of Basic Black card stock and punched small photo corners for each corner out of Basic Black card stock.
