Moon Light Cool Cat – Tutorial

dsc05361.JPG

A couple times a year I have to get this old Stampin’ Up set “Cool Cat” out and work with it.  Love this cat!    This morning I felt like getting out the bright colors to liven things up a bit.

Let’s get started.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up “Cool Cat”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black & Tempting Turquoise
Ink: Stampin’ Up Tempting Turquoise, Summer Sun, Chocolate Chip, Ruby Red, Basic Black & Wild Wasabi
Accessories: Stamp-a-ma-jig, Coluzzle, Tim Holtz Distressing Tool and Ruler, Piercing Tool, White Gel Pen, Bordering Blue marker, Blush Blossom Marker, Black Marker, Sponges

dsc05364.JPG

Cut a 2.5″ circle with my Coluzzle out of card stock.

Note:  This morning I used a circle cut previously and used in a different project.  Nice to keep these things on hand and re-use them.

dsc05336.JPG

Used the circle as a mask for the moon.  I just held it in place as I worked.

dsc05335.JPG

Traced a fine line around the mask with a Bordering Blue marker on a 4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc05337.JPG

Sponged on some Summer Sun ink.

dsc05338.JPG

Sponged on Some Tempting Turquoise ink.

dsc05339.JPG

Sponged on some Wild Wasabi ink.

dsc05340.JPG

Sponged on some Ruby Red ink.

Sponged on some Chocolate Chip ink.

Removed mask.

dsc05343.JPG

Sponged some Summer Sun ink inside of the moon to the left side.

dsc05344.JPG

Using my Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement, stamped Cool Cat with Basic Black ink.

dsc05345.JPG

dsc05346.JPG

Sponged some Black ink at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc05347.JPG

Used a white gel pen to color in the whites of the cat’s eyes.

dsc05348.JPG

Colored in the Cat’s ears with a Blush Blossom Marker.

dsc05349.JPG

Added some dots to the background to look like distant stars.

dsc05350.JPG

Figured out what layout I wanted to use and cut my panels.

dsc05351.JPG

Distressed the main image panel and the Tempting Turquoise panel with a Tim Holtz distress tool.

dsc05354.JPG

Dragged the edges of all sides of the main image panel over the black ink.

dsc05353.JPG

sponged Tempting Turquoise ink around the edges of the Tempting Turquoise panel.

dsc05356.JPG

Drew in lines using a Tim Holtz ruler and White Gel pen to create a look of brick.

dsc05355.JPG

Drew a black line under the cat to create the top of the wall and colored in the top bricks with the black marker to make it flow better from one layer to the next.

dsc05358.JPG

The Tim Holtz ruler has holes in it that you can use your piercing tool with to create a faux stitching look.

Punched my holes around the edge of the card  stock and then used a white gel pen and ran it from one hole to the next to create the stitching.

dsc05359.JPG

Here you have it the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

May your day be sunny and your night sky be bright!

Until my next post. . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

My cat adopted me (she was homeless and my precious black cocker spaniel had recently died after 13 years of loving devotion). That was three years ago and it has been a love fest ever since. Her name is Tigger – I wasn’t a cat person and thought she was a male! Giggle! She is now the Queen of our home.

This card is too cute and even though my Tigger is an orange tiger, that innocent look and curled tail are so her. I MUST HAVE THIS STAMP! It would’ve made a great b’day card for my son who has two kitties.

Michelle, you are the best. Your cards and tutorials have inspired me to create projects I would’ve never attempted. I know it takes a lot of time and effort to post these detailed tuts complete with all the pics. As a loyal fan I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

All I can say is WOW! Just love this cat, and the colors! Thanks for sharing the ruler with us. I just love to know about tools that actually WORK! I have so many that never lived up to their promise! LOL

Another great piece Michelle, thank you for sharing it!

I love that cat image!! Your tuts are always so inspiring, Michelle! They make me want to run to my craft studio! I can’t believe you find time to do all of this and then go out to work! You must have boundless energy! :o)
Question: What kind of sponges do you use? My ink never seems to “flow” from my sponges as well as yours does. I wonder if my sponges are too dense?

    Thanks for the inspiration!

So you are just back from vacation and I feel like all is new and I can start gushing all over you again! First of all, “what no EP?” I kept looking and thinking okay she must emboss the moon, no, well then the cat, no, what the heck! After I got over that I just sat in amazement that if I picked yo yo yellow, tempting turquoise, wasabi green, and ruby red for my night sky, it would look like my dog did it. There are still two things that never cease to amaze me and maybe part is because I am looking at your tutorial and not your mind. The first is it seems like you grab a plain piece of white cardstock and randomly place your first stamped element, but it never seems like you are off. You never seem to cut a little off this end or a bit off that end. How do you do that? The second is that you start grabbing colors that on a good day at my house would just not turn to mud. But they go together and make whatever it is you are making. How do you do that? Maybe that’s what it means to be an artist! Thanks for another great tutorial!

  14. I LOVE THIS! Cool Cat is one of my faves and you have just created a masterpiece (A…gain!) Love the bright colors too!
I hate to ask, but your brick wall is just SOOOO cute…
what are the dimensions of the bricks? I tried to do this on a scrap piece, but they don’t look proportionate to my main image like yours does. Thanks, Michelle!

Michelle this card is so cool. I adore cats have 4 of my own. You use so many techniques in your cards. I think your card making is more of a ‘work of art’ than just stamping and embellishing. thanks
