Happy Sunday Everyone! 

I didn’t get a chance to post on Saturday due to the Stamp Away USA, Stamp Convention that was held in Sharonville, OH at the Convention Center.  This was my first time attending one of these stamp conventions and man oh man, can a Gal get into lots of trouble at one of these things. 

Below is a picture of my purchases and believe me I wanted just about everything, but I set a limit for myself before I went and only took that much in cash with me and left my credit cards at home.  That turned out to be a smart move on my part, lol.  I think I made wiser choices too.

The day was so enjoyable, Karen Barber let me drag her along on the road trip and I also met a few of you blog readers 🙂  A big hello to Colleen and her friends and to Priscilla.

Today’s tutorial was created with one of the stamps I purchased.  By the way this is tutorial number 99.  If you would like to see the other 98 tutorials check out the tab at the top of my blog that reads “all my tutorials”.

So let’s get started.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stamp by Judith T-40
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Not Quite Navy, Kiwi Kiss
Ink: Stampin’ Up Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy, Old Olive, Basic Black & Kiwi Kiss
Accessories: Post it Notes, Brayer, Markers, White Gel Pen, Sponges, ribbon, Brads

Brayered Baja Breeze ink at the top of a 5.5″ x 4.2″ piece of Whisper White Card stock.

Brayered Kiwi Kiss ink at the bottom half of the card stock.

Tore through the sticky part of two post it notes and used them to mask the ground portion of the card stock.

Sponged Baja Breeze ink at the torn edge of the card stock to create a horizon line and to put in a couple of mountain shapes.

Right at the torn edge of the post it notes sponged in Not Quite Navy to darken the horizon line so it would really stand out.

Removed post it note masks and sponged Not Quite Navy ink at the top of the card stock to create a more dramatic sky.

Sponged Old Olive ink at the bottom of the card stock to create some depth in the foreground.

Stamp my new “Stamp by Judith T-40” with Basic Black ink.

Colored the rocks with a Going Gray maker.

Colored the tree trunk with a Chocolate Chip marker.

Colored the fence posts with a Close to Cocoa marker.

Colored the tops of the fence posts with a Creamy Caramel marker.  Also created a shadows for the tree and fence post with the Creamy Caramel marker.

Colored the flowers in with a white gel pen.

Colored the flower stems with an Old Olive maker.

Added some Close to Cocoa to the center of my tree and fence post shadows.

Sponged Note Quite Navy ink on the edge of my Kiwi Kiss card stock panel.

Assembled card and here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

    YOU ARE SOOOO AMAZING!! I come here and everytime my jaw ends on the floor you make distressing and using that brayer soo easy.. I still am scared of the brayer..     Michelle–glad you made it to Stampaway! I took my 9-year-old niece on Friday night, and we had a blast! The Friday preview party had a pajama party theme, and we dressed in our jammies and fuzzy slippers–that didn’t slow down our shopping, though! Thanks for another great tutorial.

    Great tutorial. thanks for outlining it so well and step by step.
    I was led here because of another comment on the scs website – I am ending up
    with hard lines when I do brayering say of blues, yellows, etc. They don’t blend the way yours do.

    Any specific hints on that? SCS suggested using more ink on brayer or glossy cardstock. i’ve also used ww.

    Michelle, another fabulous card! You are definitely an artist!! When you sponge…do you use a dry sponge or a damp sponge. I never get the depth of color you do when I sponge. (I haven’t even tried the brayer yet!! LOL!)

    This is stunning… and you are one smart cookie… leaving those credit cards at home… I am sure you could have done lots and lots of damage… but all in all you made beautiful choices and I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the sets all inked up…

    How in the world did you get away with only enough Stuff to fit the photo??? I would have busted the bank and had to have hired a Uhaul truck to get my stuff home. I’m terrible!     I was in Cincinnati this weekend,too. Wish I had seen you. I did tell some people about your blog. This card is one of my favorites. Love that fence, and really appreciate knowing how to color it. I hope I can get to your class in Dayton. I live in Indianapolis. Any chance you will be here? Thanks for the tutorials.

    Michelle, I am impressed as always with your beautiful creations and masterful hand with the brayer. For this card, did you start the brayer in the middle and work your way out or did you just go from one side to the other. It seems to be darker and wider in the middle both with the blue sky and the green ground.
    Any plans on coming to Hawaii?

    Michelle, you did good. How smart to leave credit cards at home, I just can’t do that and always end up wishing I had.ha. I have several stamps by Judith, but this must be new I love it. Glad you and Karen had a blast. Thanks for the tutorial.

    We have a convention in town the end of August and are waiting to see all the products.
    Good idea to take a set amount of money and leave the credit cards at home. I’ll have to think about it.

    Thank you for another wonderful tutorial and for featuring a stamp from one of my favorite makers: Stamps by Judith! Love how you used and colored the stamp image.

    Oooooh…I would **LOVE** to be in your class held at Marco’s Paper and fulfill two of my dreams at once: taking a class from you and spending hours browsing through Marco’s stock!! Unfortunately, Dayton is a little too far from California! 😉

    Now, San Jose, I could do…and I have a little while to plan it. We’ll see!

    Next time I go *any* place where I’m inclined to spend money, I’m going to follow your example: Set a $$ limit, take only enough cash, leave debit/credit cards at home! See? You’re just inspiring on all fronts!

    Leanne, I worked the sky from the top of the card stock down. and the ground area from the bottom up. The pictures I took show the brayer sitting in the direction in which I used it. 🙂

    I have to do the same thing when going to conventions, I find myself just purchasing over my budget if I don’t take cash. Neat stamp and so love the scene you have made with it, GREAT job!

    Q asked “Are the brayers easily cleaned after they’re inked up? how do you clean them?”
    They are very easy to clean. They do get stained though. My brayer use to be tan in color and it is now stained black from use.

    I spray stamp cleaner on a stampin scrub pad and roll my brayer on the wet side and then roll it on the dry side. I also roll it on scrap paper to be sure that it is clean.

    It’s a tool, use it! 🙂

    I really like your new stamp and love what you did with it. I was trying to get a better look at your loot. We have the Heirloom Novi stamp show coming next weekend and wanted to get a sneak peak of what you thought were cool things. I usually take the same tactic you do at the shows — go with a specific budget. But something happened last year and I left with many, Many Copic markers. That is never in anyone’s budget! But I use them all the time. I never got the hang of my SU markers, but the Copics for some reason I am able to handle. Another great tutorial and I will look for that Stamps by Judith stamp. I really like it.
