The Wave – Tutorial #114 and Blog Candy

dsc05864.JPG

I have a stormy ocean scene for you today.   I swear when my allergies act up and I’m not feeling well I always reach for shades of blue ink.  The color blue must sooth me.  🙂

Maybe this card will sooth someone else too, so I’ll give it away as blog candy.

To enter for a chance to win this card, please leave me a comment on this post telling me your all time favorite rubber stamping tool, besides rubbers stamps, lol.   I love reading your comments that tell me a bit about yourself.  If you are getting this blog update by e-mail you will need to click this link to leave a comment on this blog post:

I will use a random number generator to pick the winner on the morning of Sunday, September 7th.

OK then, it is time to get on with this stormy scene tutorial.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Impression Obsession “Branches of a Tree”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black and Tempting Turquoise
Ink: Adirondack Pitch Black, Pool, Denim & Cloudy Blue
Accessories: Brayer, Sponges, White Gel Pen, Circle Coluzzle Template

dsc05865.JPG

Brayered on Pool ink on the right side of a 5″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc05848.JPG

Brayered Denim ink at the right and left sides of the card stock.

dsc05849.JPG

Brayered Denim ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc05850.JPG

Used a circle cut with a coluzzle that measures 3 5/8″ and sponge Denim ink lightly at the edge of one side of the circle.  Move the circle up a bit and sponged again.  I did this a total of 5 times.

dsc05851.JPG

dsc05852.JPG

Sponged Denim ink at the left side of the card stock to blend the sponged lines in a bit.

dsc05853.JPG

Tore a cliff shape from a piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc05854.JPG

Sponged Cloudy Blue ink on the cliff shape.

dsc05855.JPG

Sponged Denim ink on the cliff shape not covering all of the Cloudy Blue ink.

dsc05856.JPG

Sponged Pitch Black ink on the cliff shape not covering the Denim ink entirely.  I also sponged Pitch Black ink on the top of the cliff shape and along the top of curve shape.

dsc05857.JPG

Adhered the cliff shape to the main panel.

dsc05858.JPG

Stamped the tree with Pitch Black ink.

dsc05859.JPG

Sponged some Pitch Black ink at the top of the sky area to add some drama.

dsc05860.JPG

Used the circle mask again and traced one side of it at the top of each wave to create a highlight in the water.

dsc05861.JPG

Assembled the card and here it is finished measuring 5.25″ x 5.25″.

dsc05864.JPG

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to get inky today.

May your day be filled with calm seas.

Until my next post. . . . . . . . .. .

Hugs,

Michelle

This card is beatiful! Blue is my favorite color too! You can send that card right over to me, I could use some major soothing. I just had my wisdom teeth removed on Wed. and had some jaw surgery. So I’m in some nasty pain right now and can’t really talk much due to swelling and stiffness, thank goodness for my computer. =) I suffer from sinus/allergy problems, so I know that misery too. God Bless you and thanks for sharing such a beautiful card!

Absolutely gorgeous! I love playing with my brayer but my favorite tool is my heat gun and embossing powder. I also love Eclipse tape for masking. Thanks so much for the detailed tutorial. Can’t wait to try myself.

I love all your work but this one just floored me. I can’t wait to try it. You’re such an inspiration! My favorite “go-to” tool has to be my sponge(s). I just HAVE to sponge a little here and a little there. You know how it goes.

Wow, Michelle – another fabulous card. This one seems especially unique! I truly love all my tools, but the ones I most often reach for are my wide variety of punches and my paper piercing tool and piercing mat set…I think I am as attached to these as you are your brayer. ; )

Thank you for updating the links to get to your tutorials. Now it is easier to find them than ever!

Truly LOVE this card! Having spent every summer on the shores of Lake Erie while growing up, I really feel a sense of calm by the water – I guess it’s my “happy place” to think about. My fav tools at this time would be my ScorPal and my Koh-I-Noor pencils. I’m having fun w/ each of those. Thanks for sharing your time& talent with us.

  6. What an awesome card! I haven’t been stamping long, and haven’t used a brayer, so I’ll have to say my favorite tool is my little sponge daubers by Tsukineko. It allows me much more control than just dabbing the inkpad on paper.

What a terrific card – reminds me of the sea near Carmel!
I’m not sure I have a favorite tool… maybe X-axto knife, use it lots, especially with my Perfect Layers which I love, love, love!!

You always make it look so simple. My favorite tool is the Crop-a-dile big bite. I have arthritis and found the regular crop-a-dile very difficult and painful to use. The big bite is perfect for me. Although, I just ordered a Scor-pal so there may be a little competition goin’ on soon.

Michelle, spectacular as always. I can we get you to Minnesota to teach us?? Seriously, I love, love, love your cards. I can never get my brayer to leave the subtle uneven lines. I always get the straight edge. I need help!

My favorite non stamp is the Stamp-ma-jig. I seem to never mount my stamps straight, so that little tool keeps my verses where they need to be.

I will have my fingers crossed to be lucky enough to win an original from Michelle!
Thanks so much for inspiring all of us.

I’m just amazed Michelle! Your work is absolutely fabulous. I have tons of beautiful stamps but lately have been just sitting and staring at them instead of creating. I have been itching to try something different with them and this is it! I’m so inspired by your art that I’m going to pull out my brayer and start playing right now (who needs a clean house – lol). I’m so thankful a friend forwarded me an email that had a link to your work. I’m going to see about attending a workshop. Thank you so much for sharing and, “Happy Belated Birthday” – my birthday was August 26th! May we live long, happy and healthy lives. Bee

I love this card! I’ve been to the ocean (Virginia Beach) and it was just awesome. My family spends a lot of time at the lake in the summer and it’s just as great. There’s something about being on the water, a light breeze, sun hitting my face and dancing off the water surface… 🙂 Now if only I would learn how to swim!!!

Wowwwweeeee….I’m going to have to print this out and study it! I think one of my favorite items that I have within reach is my glitter glue. I love it because it’s a no mess way to get a little sparkle. I also LOVE my punches, I am trying to find a way to store them closer to me! Ughhhh…I need a bigger craft room. Hmmmmm I wonder if my 10 year old is ready to move out! 😉

  20. Fabulous tutorial again Michelle … I shall have a go and let you know how I get on!

My favourite stamping tool has to be my heat gun … I am too impatient with inks drying and just could n’t be without my gun to speed drying times up! Plus I love embossing … it is one tool … apart from my rubber stamps that I have withdrawal symptoms from if I am away from it for too long!

Michelle, you are my hero! I’m just completely awed every single day when I get your blog updates. I would love, love to take a class from you and am hoping that there will be one in my area at some time in my life. 🙂 I put a bug in the ears of a stamp store that I go to sometimes to check out your blog and invite you. It’s about an hour and a half from me, but I would definitely drive that far or further for a class! I really love ALL my stamping tools, but the one thing that I literally say “I love this” every time I use it is my Genesis paper cutter. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.

Michelle, this card took my breath away at first glance! This is so awesome!!! I love how it has a stormy feel to it (and I love BLUEs, too). I will be CASEing this for certain for some loved ones going through a personal storm at this time.
I am so fickle… my favorite stamp tools are prone to change so frequently as I learn new techniques. AND, brayers have become the #1 favorite tool for me since I took your workshop in August! Thank you so very much for sharing what you do.

I love your card – how you turn out such beauty with a head stuffed full of allergies I don’t know. Favourite tools for stamping – well acrylic blocks come high on the list because of all the unmounted stamps and then the prismacolor pencils to colour in the images! I have also recently bought some cheap wood blocks for mounting sponge on – great for doing edges

I love this card. I just found your blog yesterday through Marco’s and have reserved my spot for your Sept 13 workshop. I can’t wait….I am so excited to learn how to use my brayer. My favorite tool right now is probably my aqua brush. I like to use it with watercolor markers and a plastic pallette to color my cards with.
