The Wave – Tutorial #114 and Blog Candy

dsc05864.JPG

I have a stormy ocean scene for you today.   I swear when my allergies act up and I’m not feeling well I always reach for shades of blue ink.  The color blue must sooth me.  🙂

Maybe this card will sooth someone else too, so I’ll give it away as blog candy.

To enter for a chance to win this card, please leave me a comment on this post telling me your all time favorite rubber stamping tool, besides rubbers stamps, lol.   I love reading your comments that tell me a bit about yourself.  If you are getting this blog update by e-mail you will need to click this link to leave a comment on this blog post:

I will use a random number generator to pick the winner on the morning of Sunday, September 7th.

OK then, it is time to get on with this stormy scene tutorial.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Impression Obsession “Branches of a Tree”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black and Tempting Turquoise
Ink: Adirondack Pitch Black, Pool, Denim & Cloudy Blue
Accessories: Brayer, Sponges, White Gel Pen, Circle Coluzzle Template

dsc05865.JPG

Brayered on Pool ink on the right side of a 5″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc05848.JPG

Brayered Denim ink at the right and left sides of the card stock.

dsc05849.JPG

Brayered Denim ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc05850.JPG

Used a circle cut with a coluzzle that measures 3 5/8″ and sponge Denim ink lightly at the edge of one side of the circle.  Move the circle up a bit and sponged again.  I did this a total of 5 times.

dsc05851.JPG

dsc05852.JPG

Sponged Denim ink at the left side of the card stock to blend the sponged lines in a bit.

dsc05853.JPG

Tore a cliff shape from a piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc05854.JPG

Sponged Cloudy Blue ink on the cliff shape.

dsc05855.JPG

Sponged Denim ink on the cliff shape not covering all of the Cloudy Blue ink.

dsc05856.JPG

Sponged Pitch Black ink on the cliff shape not covering the Denim ink entirely.  I also sponged Pitch Black ink on the top of the cliff shape and along the top of curve shape.

dsc05857.JPG

Adhered the cliff shape to the main panel.

dsc05858.JPG

Stamped the tree with Pitch Black ink.

dsc05859.JPG

Sponged some Pitch Black ink at the top of the sky area to add some drama.

dsc05860.JPG

Used the circle mask again and traced one side of it at the top of each wave to create a highlight in the water.

dsc05861.JPG

Assembled the card and here it is finished measuring 5.25″ x 5.25″.

dsc05864.JPG

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to get inky today.

May your day be filled with calm seas.

Until my next post. . . . . . . . .. .

Hugs,

Michelle

  2. Wow, the stormy sea card was amazing. You can make your brayer do magical things. I’m afraid my is not as magical. I am still pretty new with all of this but I hope to get better using the aqua brush. I love how you can blend and shade.

Hello Michelle, the one stamping assistance item I wouldn’t want to let go of would have to be my guillotine (paper cutter). What a time-saving device! Of course there’s many other things I would like to add to this. I’d love to participate in one of your workshops – maybe one day you’ll get to trip overseas? All the way to Australia, would be fabulous! Enjoy reading over each of your wonderful tutorials and am always totally engaged in your posts.

I am curious what you use for inspiration. Seems like the allergies are not inhibiting your creativity. Another delightful lesson and your cards are a gift in themselves. Lately I cannot seem to stay away from the computer looking at all the ideas. so for now that seems to be my favorite tool.

Even if I don’t win this card, I will love to come and look at it again and again.
I am sick as anything at the moment, silly spring weather we are having over here, and the blue is very soothing.

Thanks again for the fantastic creations you share with us!!

How beautiful!!! Reminds me of the stormy waters we may be seeing from Ike in the near future…sure hope he goes out to sea somewhere, but I’m sure someone will have to deal with that bad boy!! This is one of your best tutorials…very unique card!!!
My favorite stamping tools change as I evolve as a stamper, but right now my favorite tool is my embossing powders and heat tool. Lately I end up embossing nearly every image I stamp…love the dimension of the images even if I am just going to color an outline image!

Michelle, your card is absolutely stunning! It reminds me of stormy days when I used to live in La Jolla! Thanks for the awesome tutorial! At first I was going to say my favorite tool is my heat tool because I use heat embossing on some part of almost every card I make. But I realized that I have also been using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig on a lot of cards, too. One of these two is my current favorite! Call me indecisive! Thanks for the constant inspiration!

My computer is really my favorite tool because this where I get all these awesome tutorials that help me grow as an artist and stamper….yup I gotta say it is definitely my computer!

    Silly but so very true

As for an actual tool of the trade …..let see I would have to say my all time favorite tools are all my sponges and applicators that I use with my brayer.

My Alcohol inks are right up there to!
Thanks again Michelle for an awesome tutorial,

My favourite tool I would have to say is my SU Mat pack and paper piercer. Although I tend to think of myself as someone who uses a variety of things, I think if I looked through my cards I would find those little holes everywhere!!!!

I also came across your website from the Marcos newsletter. This card is unbelievably gorgeous! If I had to pick, one of my favorite stamping tools are Twinkling H2Os. I love the look of watercolors, though I am still trying to master the technique of getting them to look right. I never seem to be able to get the shading in the right place. I think it’s my “engineering,” uncreative mind that gets in the way.

As always your cards are fantastic. Win or lose the card doesn’t matter as I’m already a winner for having this tutorial. Thank you so much for your generosity.

Hmmm, favorite tool, that’s a tough one. Usually it’s whatever I’m using at the moment. So that would have to be the internet. Especially since I haven’t stamped in quite a while, your tutorials are filling a need for eye candy and inspiration. Other favorite tools I guess would include my ScorPal and Wizard.

    Thanks again,

Michelle: I look forward every day see what project you have done for the day. I just love the way you use color and how you use the post- it- notes as a tool to achieve the terrific shading. I have only tried your technique once, but I an reading to do more cards. I think my favorite tool for stamping is my “Green Pal” the Cuttlebug. I just love to put paper through those embossing envelopes. I enjoy adding color to the raised areas of the paper and also doing the negative embossing trick with stamping ink. I make wonderful punched leaves from using the textile embossing envelope . I also like using stamps to create a background and then add punched flowers in different shapes and sizes.

Thanks for sharing all your wonderful techniques. You WOW my life with color!

Beautiful card!!! I would love to own a “Zindorf”. My favorite tool right now is inks. You have gotten me aquainted with the Ranger Brights and Lights, and I love them. I have had several of the Earthtone ink for years, but I really didn’t know they sold other pallets as well. I was a great discovery, and I love using them!

Wow, what a beautiful card. I am amazed at the emotion it evokes. I really appreciate all the time and talent you share with us here. A favorite tool . . . just one? I know this sounds very basic, but I really like the dense burgundy foam pad that I use to stamp on. It makes all my images come out clear. After that it would be my Wizard and Nesties and Cuttlebug embossing folders and Twinkling H2Os 🙂 Thanks for all your beautiful inspiration.

I am going to try a “Zindorf” today! My favorite rubber stamping tool so far is stamp-a-ma-jig, but after today, maybe it will be my brayer! I do not use it because I am intimidated by it, I think one of your tutorials will change my mind!

Well if my schtuff looked like yours my fave would be my brayer……but thats why my favorite tool or tools are maybe punches to add accents. There are so many to make different things to add to the work. Rather it be doing something to the corner, making layers to a sentement or adding a cute “something” that goes with the card.

Great and beautiful card….wow super ideas you have and share to all.

Sorry to double post – I was so excited about the card I didn’t even realize there was a chance to win it on the line! As you might guess from the post above – lately it is definitely my brayer. All time, I guess it is my sponge daubers. I use them ALL the time. I am also quite twiterpated with my colour spritzer lately. Crossing my fingers now!

  38. Hello again!
I love the wave card! The blues are really very soothing, and you can feel that when you look at this card! I also get a feeling of being a little alone, since that lone tree is precariously on the edge of the cliff. Neat effect! Denim blue is really a pretty color and the blending with the other blues is amazing!
I am trying to figure out my favorite tool, and I don’t know what to mention first. After a few thoughts, I think I really like my Stamp-a-ma-jig! I had it for awhile before I really knew how to use it. I went to a few tutorials, and now I have finally learned how to use it! I keep it very handy! Don’t know how I got along without it. I used it with an alphabet set last night and what a difference it made!
I wish I could say the brayer is my favorite tool but I have yet to get one. I went to Michael’s the other day to get one and they were out. I won’t be able to go out shopping for two days! So busy!
Michelle your art is amazing! What a priviledge to have a card made by you, it would be so awesome!
Love your cards and tutorials very much!

I guess my favorite thing after stamps, would have to be ink! I’m definitely an ink whore! I have no less than 174 full size ink pads, 5 sets of petal points, and who knows how many little squares and cat’s eyes! Oddly enough, I never have the right shade! I really need some blending classes so I can get the shade I need through my own creativity! LOL

Your sense of color and composition is remarkable and your tutorials are very easy to follow. There was only one problem that I encountered. There are so many beautiful samples from which to choose that I had a tough time deciding which one to try first! Thanks so much for sharing your stunning works of art.
