Pumpkins by the Lake – Tutorial #117 and Blog Candy

dsc05950.JPG

This set “All Hallow’s Eve” by Inkadinkado was still out on my desk from Yesterday’s piece so I gave it another go.  This time throwing a purple cast on the pumpkins and using a teal color and purple together, which I love by the way.

I’m also going to give this card away as blog candy.  I’ll use a random number generator on Saturday, September 13th to select the winner.  To enter to win this card, please leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite color combination to use in fall creations.  If you are getting this blog update by e-mail you will need to click this link to leave a comment on this post:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2008/09/10/pumpkins-by-the-lake-tutorial-117-and-blog-candy/

One more thing, I have scheduled an Advanced brayer workshop in Dayton, Ohio on November 1st.  For more info on my Beginner and advanced Brayer workshops, please check out this link:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/workshop-calendar/

Let’s get started on the tutorial.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Inkadinkado “All Hallow’s Eve” & Stampin’ Up “Baroque Motifs”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise, Black & Elegant Eggplant
Ink: Adirondack Eggplant, Black, Stream, Hazelnut, Purple Twilight, Aqua
Accessories: Versamark marker & pad, Prismacolor markers, Sponges, White gel pen, black marker, Brayer, Fine detail clear embossing powder, heat gun, photo corner punch

dsc05951.JPG

Stamped the Pumpkins on Whisper White card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then Black ink before stamping the image.

Note:  I started out with a much too large piece of card stock.  I later cut this down to measure 3.5″ x 3.5″.

dsc05924.JPG

Heat emboss the image using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05925.JPG

Colored some Prismacolor Violet Mist marker on the pumpkins.

dsc05926.JPG

Colored over the pumpkins with Wheat.

dsc05927.JPG

Colored some Yellow Orange marker on the pumpkins.

dsc05928.JPG

Went over the entire image with the Wheat marker to blend the colors together a bit.

dsc05929.JPG

Used the Violet Mist marker again at the bottom and top of the pumpkins to darken.

dsc05930.JPG

Colored over the entire image with a Versamark marker.

dsc05931.JPG

Heat embossed using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05932.JPG

Cropped my paper down to 3.5″ x 3.5″.

I also made a few dots with a Versamark marker in the sky area of the card stock and then heat embossed them using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  You won’t be able to see them until the next step.

dsc05933.JPG

Brayered on Aqua ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc05936.JPG

Brayered on Purple Twilight ink at the top of the card stock, but not covering the Aqua ink entirely.

dsc05937.JPG

Sponged Hazelnut ink on in a swiping motion going from left to right.

dsc05938.JPG

Sponged on Stream ink in a swiping motion going from right to left.

dsc05939.JPG

Sponged on some Black ink to the left of the pumpkins and under them.

dsc05940.JPG

Sponged Eggplant ink around the edge of the card stock.

dsc05941.JPG

Added to layers to the card front and adhered them together.  Stamp Flourish with Black ink.  Note:  I have a gap in my design since I stamped over multiple layers of card stock.  When doing this step make sure you have a marker that matches the color of ink you stamped in so you can fill in the gaps.

dsc05942.JPG

Filled in the gaps of the flourish with a black marker.

dsc05943.JPG

Sponged Eggplant ink at the left and bottom of the Eggplant card stock.

dsc05944.JPG

Added a bottom layer, corner punches and brads.

dsc05945.JPG

Added White Gel pen to the right side of some of the flourishes to make them stamp out more.

dsc05946.JPG

Here you have it the finished card measuring 5.25″ x 5.25″.

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to create a scene that is a little out of the ordinary.

May your day be filled with joy & love!

Until my next post. . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

  1. This card is soooooo beautiful! If you dash in some deep fuchsia then you have my favorite colors to use for fall, or anytime of the year really. They’re just my favorites, lol.

I had other plans this morning, but now I need to see if I can try and recreate this card as best as my supplies allow while following your tutorial. It is just too beautiful and I have a girlfriend who I KNOW would love it.

    Thank you!

I really like this one. It may be a bit out of the ordinary, but still beautiful the same. I did try my hand at the one from yesterday and it came out ok. At least I got an approval from my husband and kids….lol. Anyway, I would be honored to receive a card from you. Thank you and keep up the great work. I look forward to your blog every day. I like to add Eggplant to a Halloween theme and for harvest themes, I like rust, orange and every shade of green I can squeeze in. My poison color usually is black. Thanks for the candy.

  8. Wow. I love the use of purple on this card. Very beautiful. I wouldn’t have come up with this scene idea. Does the idea start in your imagination or do you come up with it as you go? Thanks for sharing and giving away more blog candy.

I love your cards and colours. My favorite combo is basically the earth tones! Pretty hard to narrow down. Anything with more mustard, really rust, I love the new in colours too. The Tangarine Tango and Ridinghood Red. They all rock!

You are seriously stressing my resolve to not purchase any new stamps – (well at least until I have used each of the stamps I already own at least once). I am really liking the stamp set that you have used for the last couple of days. Of course, it is curious that I only want stamps that have been used in cards that made me go “WOW! I can see the same set in another card (made by someone else of course) that is just Ho Hum and I don’t get the “gotta have its”

I love to look at your cards first thing in the morning for inspiration and today was truly inspired! I live in Ontario Canada and I love the changing colours of the leaves in the Fall. I love coppers, burnt oranges, sunset reds and pumpkin spice and only wish I could use them as intuitively as you do when you create.

For Halloween cards, I love the orange/black contrast, although that seems so boring now with your beautiful card with the Aqua and Twilight! Absolutely fabulous card and, as always, I love your tutorials!

    Michelle,

This is another beautiful card. I am always amazed at what you add to your images to add drama and highlight. Wish I had your artistic eye.

I also love the purple and teal together. I have to say, I never would have thought of those as “Fall colors” until after seeing your card. My favorite (this year anyway) fall combination is cranberry, pumpkin, mustard and dark green.

Thanks again for another marvelous tutorial. Have a great day.

I like to use the many colors found in fall leaves, rust, red orange, yellow, cranberry, brown, and gold. The list is endless. I admire the cards you create and hope that you offer classes in the Detroit area in the future. I sure hope I am the lucky winner of this gorgeous card.

I usually have problems with fall color combinations so I go with golds, greens and browns. Having grown up in Florida our fall colors were the same as the other seasons – green. I always look forward to getting your e-mails to see what new fascinating card will be next.

well, my usual “go to” colors are cool ones, blues, greens, teal, some purple…..mostly jewel tones. i have been trying lately to grab something i don’t usually use. especially now with fall cards, i am using reds, oranges and olive green. can’t say it’s natural for me, but i am liking what i’m coming up with.
thanks michelle for the daily inspiration!
