Pumpkins by the Lake – Tutorial #117 and Blog Candy

dsc05950.JPG

This set “All Hallow’s Eve” by Inkadinkado was still out on my desk from Yesterday’s piece so I gave it another go.  This time throwing a purple cast on the pumpkins and using a teal color and purple together, which I love by the way.

I’m also going to give this card away as blog candy.  I’ll use a random number generator on Saturday, September 13th to select the winner.  To enter to win this card, please leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite color combination to use in fall creations.  If you are getting this blog update by e-mail you will need to click this link to leave a comment on this post:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2008/09/10/pumpkins-by-the-lake-tutorial-117-and-blog-candy/

One more thing, I have scheduled an Advanced brayer workshop in Dayton, Ohio on November 1st.  For more info on my Beginner and advanced Brayer workshops, please check out this link:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/workshop-calendar/

Let’s get started on the tutorial.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Inkadinkado “All Hallow’s Eve” & Stampin’ Up “Baroque Motifs”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise, Black & Elegant Eggplant
Ink: Adirondack Eggplant, Black, Stream, Hazelnut, Purple Twilight, Aqua
Accessories: Versamark marker & pad, Prismacolor markers, Sponges, White gel pen, black marker, Brayer, Fine detail clear embossing powder, heat gun, photo corner punch

dsc05951.JPG

Stamped the Pumpkins on Whisper White card stock by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then Black ink before stamping the image.

Note:  I started out with a much too large piece of card stock.  I later cut this down to measure 3.5″ x 3.5″.

dsc05924.JPG

Heat emboss the image using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05925.JPG

Colored some Prismacolor Violet Mist marker on the pumpkins.

dsc05926.JPG

Colored over the pumpkins with Wheat.

dsc05927.JPG

Colored some Yellow Orange marker on the pumpkins.

dsc05928.JPG

Went over the entire image with the Wheat marker to blend the colors together a bit.

dsc05929.JPG

Used the Violet Mist marker again at the bottom and top of the pumpkins to darken.

dsc05930.JPG

Colored over the entire image with a Versamark marker.

dsc05931.JPG

Heat embossed using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc05932.JPG

Cropped my paper down to 3.5″ x 3.5″.

I also made a few dots with a Versamark marker in the sky area of the card stock and then heat embossed them using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.  You won’t be able to see them until the next step.

dsc05933.JPG

Brayered on Aqua ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc05936.JPG

Brayered on Purple Twilight ink at the top of the card stock, but not covering the Aqua ink entirely.

dsc05937.JPG

Sponged Hazelnut ink on in a swiping motion going from left to right.

dsc05938.JPG

Sponged on Stream ink in a swiping motion going from right to left.

dsc05939.JPG

Sponged on some Black ink to the left of the pumpkins and under them.

dsc05940.JPG

Sponged Eggplant ink around the edge of the card stock.

dsc05941.JPG

Added to layers to the card front and adhered them together.  Stamp Flourish with Black ink.  Note:  I have a gap in my design since I stamped over multiple layers of card stock.  When doing this step make sure you have a marker that matches the color of ink you stamped in so you can fill in the gaps.

dsc05942.JPG

Filled in the gaps of the flourish with a black marker.

dsc05943.JPG

Sponged Eggplant ink at the left and bottom of the Eggplant card stock.

dsc05944.JPG

Added a bottom layer, corner punches and brads.

dsc05945.JPG

Added White Gel pen to the right side of some of the flourishes to make them stamp out more.

dsc05946.JPG

Here you have it the finished card measuring 5.25″ x 5.25″.

dsc05950.JPG

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to create a scene that is a little out of the ordinary.

May your day be filled with joy & love!

Until my next post. . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

I love this combination of colors. Having grown a little tired of the traditional fall oranges, browns etc. this palate is a breath of fresh air, yet it certainly does give a strong
Autumn feeling. It is so crisp and clean.

Your cards are incredible. I especially loved your tutorial for yesterday – #116. My favorite fall color combination is shades of orange and green with a touch of yellow. For Halloween, I love to add purple.

  4. Hello!
I am loving your tutorials! Fall colors are so wonderful! It’s hard to choose my favorite fall colors, but if I could I think I would choose a yellow-orange blend with turquoise. I just used those colors in layering a card and the turquoise really popped! I love to color scarecrows and cornfields for fall scenes! I loved your tutorial –I think you called it Harvest Moon. That’s when I knew I had to have Prisma Markers!
I really like this stamp set too! The witch silohuette was cool yesterday, and now these pumpkins are grand! The Baroque Motifs is very cool to use during Halloween.
It would be so much fun to get your card in the mail!
    Thanks for all you do!

I love this card. I love this stamp set, so much so that I hit the local Michaels today and found it. Now to try and recreate what you have done. Favorite colors for fall, of course the full range from yellow to the dark oranges, and the reds and browns. I just love everything to do with fall and all the colors. If only we had a true fall here, for us it is going from hot to not quite so hot. Would love to be the proud recipent of this beautiful piece, thanks for the chance to win it.

Reds, Oranges, Yellows, and bright Greens…..BUT…..you’ve opened my eyes to a whole different world of October colors. I would never have thought of Blues, Purples, and the unusual combinations you’ve used on the last couple of cards. I am in awe…..and can’t wait to try them.
Oh, I think i should win this blog candy because my Birthday is on the 12th and I really really want this card.

I loved your Pumpkin by the Water card! It is great. My family’s favorite fall dessert is Frost on the Pumpkin cookies. I’ll share the recipe with you sometime. It is kind of like carrot cake because they have raisins and pecans and a cream cheese frosting! My favorite fall colors are burnt orange, gold, brown, and the rustic reds like you see in the tree leaves as they start to change! Fall is a beautiful season and it brings out the comfort side of me….football, chili, drives in the countryside, etc.
Please keep your great tutorials coming! You are a real blessing to me and many others! I look forward to your blog everyday.

Fall colors, earth colors and PURPLE are my favorite color combos and your pumpkins are gorgeous. Living in Florida we don’t get the fall colors you do, I guess thats why I love them so much. I would be honor to have one of your cards. Thank you.

  11. I am always amazed at your talent. I would SO love to win this card. I think if I had one of your cards right here with me I would grasp some of your techniques more thoroughly. As for colors I like to use on my Autumn themed cards, I usually go for the typical leaf colors of reds, oranges, golds, yellows, and browns, but for Halloween cards I like spooky colors like black, purple, white and orange. Thanks for a chance to win the card.

Hi Michelle, I really want to win one of your creations! In Australia we refer to autumn and I guess my favourite colours (even though we don’t experience much of a change as you do), is to think deep oranges and rusts and rich reds …

Note: Link added is to a review I wrote to a favourite Oriental Stamp Art site.

Wow! I am totally amazed by you. You have inspired me to not be so afraid of my brayer. I am now using my brayer the way it should be used, with ink! Not using it to roller things down to glue them! How far will you travel to do workshops, PA maybe?

Gorgeous as usual! My favorite fall color combination is a rusty red and spicy pumpkin. There are so many hues of these colors that combine well. I like to use them in a duochromatic (is that even a word? It can’t be monochromatic because there are two colors….hmmmm…) presentation using my die cutter; when I cut out a shape of the two colors, I am left with a positive and negative. I then use the positive of one color with the negative of the other color. Subtle but effective!

I love the fall colors of olive green, yellow/gold, red and chocolate. However, after seeing this card, I’m now liking the turquoise and eggplant colors. They are not your typical fall colors but they are beautiful.

Michelle, I was at your afternoon class in Dayton this past weekend and really enjoyed it! I got back home on Sunday afternoon and went right down to the stamp room and created a card! Ok, it was a copy of one we made in class but I will be venturing on with new stamps this weekend! What a fun, and easy technique! Thanks!

Michelle, you are a wonder and a gift to the stamping world!!! I love all your cards so much and am constantly amazed at your creativity. Because of you I just bought a new heat tool and embossed my first card (baby steps, but it’s movement in the right direction). Next, a brayer…

I love rust and eggplant and artichoke or moss for a basic fall color combo but I am in love with the orange, bright green and purple used for Halloween!

I would be thrilled to receive this card as blog candy! Thank you for the opportunity!!!

    Hi Michelle,
I just answered at the wrong place. Duh. Just wanted to say that I love receiving your blog because every card you do is perfectly beautiful. This season I’m using black, orange and purple or black, orange and green for my pages in a halloween book page swap. I only have two pages of 37 to go but I’m tempted to add aqua.

Thanks for sharing all your great art work,

I really, really, really, want a Michelle Zindorf card so I can frame it and put it my scrap room. Please, please, please PICK ME! Anyhow, My favorite color combos for fall have always been pumpkin pie, really rust, old olive, more mustard, but now that I’ve seen how you used Elegant Eggplant in your fall cards, I’m Hooked! I never would have thought of adding that color in with my falls colors. But what an idiot I am! Of course purple is a fall color! I love it, and will get some elegant eggplant ink with my next order. Thanks for the inspiration!
