Peaceful Hummingbird – Tutorial #123

dsc06110.JPG

This is a farewell to the hummingbirds here in Ohio.  I’m always so sad when then leave.  But I can hardly blame them for heading for warmer climates in preparation for the Autumn and Winter to come.

I feel this card would be a good Sympathy card.  Sympathy cards are always so hard for me to come up with.  I try to create a peaceful scene that is not sad.

Let’s get started.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up “Baroque Motifs” & Cornish Heritage Farms “Hummingbird”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Handsome Hunter & Sage Shadow
Ink: Stampin’ Up Sage Shadow, Handsome Hunter & Not Quite Navy
Accessories: Versamark Pad, Fine detail clear embossing powder, heat gun, sponge, ribbon, silver brads

Stamped Baroque Motifs Flourish twice on a 4″ x 5.5″ piece of Whisper White card stock using Versamark.

Stamped Hummingbird using Versamark.

Heat embossed images using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Sponged Sage Shadow ink all over the card stock using a circular motion.

Sponged Not Quite Navy ink on the card stock using a circular motion.

Wow, I can’t remember the last time I used the ink color Handsome Hunter, but I pulled it out this morning and sponged it over the Not Quite Navy ink, not covering it entirely.

Stamped Flourish at the bottom of the card stock using Sage Shadow ink.

Wiped the ink from the embossed images using a soft rag.

dsc06105.JPG

Sponged some more Not Quite Navy ink at the bottom left corner of the card stock.

Assembled card and here it is finished measuring 5″ x 6.5″.

I hope your day is filled with peaceful scenes and peaceful thoughts.

Until my next post. . . . . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Your talent for blending colors is awesome. This card is awesome. Your ode to the “hummers” is so appropriate. Our Hummers are looking like B52s they are so big but I think they are bulking up for their flight to South America. This creation certainly would bring comfort to someone who needed it. Lovely piece.

  2. This has got to be one of my favorites you’ve done lately. I love the swirls and the hummingbird….makes me want to send it to my grandfather. (he loves hummingbirds!) I may be able to try something similar since I don’t have a brayer, just need to check out what kind of stamps I have that would look nice.

Wow Michelle, this is a truly fabulous card!

I am wondering two things (just things my brain said, “hmmmm??”)

    1. Is there a reason that you sponged rather than brayered the Sage Shadow? I was just thinking that it would be quicker perhaps easier to brayer it over the c/s.

    2. Does it make a difference to clear emboss on white c/s rather than use white EP on Sage Shadow c/s? I guess I’m wondering if it is easier to get the ink to cover on the white (Whisper White is buffered) rather than colored c/s?

Thanks so much Michelle for all that you do. Not only is your artwork amazing, but I think you are amazing to answer all these crazy questions! 🙂

Melissa, sponging give you a more molted look.

Melissa, it will be a whole different look. Try it you may like it. 🙂

Hello Michelle. I have just scoured the Cornish Heritage website and can’t come up with the hummingbird. Can you send me a link?
    Thanks so much

    I just love you work!
Before I came across your site I had envisioned a card and it would haunt me at night…You answered some questions I had on how to layer my idea to be able to execute it. Thank you!

i chose to comment here because of what you said about the hummingbirds. We have quite a few that live around our place but I have noticed that they are in full force come fall and winter. Especially when we had our snow. I always thought that was odd.

    Again, thank you!
