Forest Wolf

dsc06324.JPG

Hello all!  A few of you have commented and e-mailed me wondering why I haven’t posted in a few days.  Tell you the truth, sometimes life gets a little to overwhelming for me and I have to just step back, take a breath and regroup.  I really appreciate your concern though.

Todays tutorial is using a retired 2001 Stampin’ Up set “Wolf” and 2006 set “Best Blossoms”.  I love to pick up retired sets on Ebay.  Been wanting this Wolf set for so long, but there is only so much I will pay for stamps.  So I bid my max amount and hope that I’ll win, only on occasion I do.  Especially for some of the highly soot after sets like “Wolf”.  It has taken me 2 years of bidding to get it, but I got it for a fair price.  🙂

Let’s get started on the tutorial.

Supplies, Oops missed the supply photo this morning:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up “Wolf” & “Best Blossoms”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black, Always Artichoke
Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Always Artichoke, Really Rust and Old Olive
Accessories: Versamark pad, Prismacolor Pencils, Faber-Castell Artist Pen, Sponge

 On with the tutorial.

Loaded my stamp with Versamark, Old Olive and then tapped the stamps leaf tips on a Really Rust ink pad to color the tips before stamping it on a piece of 4.5″ square Whisper White card stock.  Stamped it 6 times.

dsc06310.JPG

Heat embossed the images using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06311.JPG

Stamped Wolf face with Basic Black ink.

dsc06312.JPG

Colored the face with a Prismacolor Cool Grey 50% pencil.

dsc06313.JPG

Added some Prismacolor Black pencil to the nose, between the eyes and darker parts of the ears.

dsc06314.JPG

Colored the eyes with a Prismacolor Goldenrod pencil.

dsc06315.JPG

Colored the mussel and inner ears with a Prismacolor Beige pencil.

dsc06316.JPG

Sponged Almost Artichoke ink all around the wolf.

dsc06317.JPG

Stamped leaves with Always Artichoke ink.

dsc06318.JPG

Wiped the ink off of my embossed leaves with a soft rag.

dsc06319.JPG

Sponged Basic Black ink at the bottom of the card stock and a bit around the edges of the card stock.

dsc06320.JPG

Stamped some more leaves at the bottom of the card stock with Basic Black ink and then wiped off my embossed images with a soft rag.

dsc06321.JPG

Darkened around the eyes, nose and a bit around the darkest parts of the ears with a Faber-Castell fine point black marker to make them stand out more.

dsc06322.JPG

Assembled my card front and here it is finished measuring 5.5″ square.

dsc06324.JPG

I hope your day is filled with relaxing and fun filled moments.

Until my next post.. . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

I’ve been trying to win this set on eBay…forever too! The last 2 times, I lost it by less then $1.00!!!! This card is awesome Michelle. I think this is my favorite that you have done (before it was the Owl in Flight!). Thanks for posting all your wonderful tutorials!

Holy Moley this is terrific! I’m a little ashamed to admit I wouldn’t have given this stamp a second thought had I not seen this beautiful piece. Thanks a lot Michelle, now I have to try to get into the bidding ebay thing too. My husband is gonna REALLY love you! I have a different animal face image I’m going to try this technique on. I have missed you too and am glad to hear it was a “breather” you needed and not a loss of a loved one or something. I hope you played in the dirt as that always calms my frazzled nerves. Glad to hear you are taking good care of you.

I too had tried on ebay to get this stamp and finally broke down and paid the going price for it but it was worth it. Now I have a great example to use it with. Thanks for sharing this. Beautiful card. Can’t wait to get home and try it out.

This is an awesome image. I love how the wolf is peering out from the leaves. Very effective. And I love how you coloured the leaves.
I’m glad you took some time for yourself. We all need a breather! It was only a couple of days. Take good care of yourself! 🙂

    Michelle,
Love this card. The colors are perfect. Great guy card, which I seem to have a hard time doing. Glad to see you used the prismcolor pencil, I went out and bought the 120 set after seeing you use them. Keep the tutuorials coming, and I too wondered if everything in your world was ok, after not seeing you post. Glad to hear it was a breather you needed. Life is hectic for sure.

  6. I’m so glad you took time to regroup. Everyone needs that sometimes. I was however, developing a withdrawal tick (Zindorf withdrawal) hehe. This card takes my breath away. It is one of those pieces of art that I cannot take my eyes off. Breathtaking. Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us.

I am glad that you are back, but more importantly that you took time for yourself. My prayers and thoughts are with you and wish you the best in getting better and back on track.

I love this card, I have this set and was just thinking the other day of getting it back out, but I did not have any ideas in mind….until now. Thank you and have a blessed day.

  9. Wow – this is gorgeous.

    And I completely understand.

Last night I freaked out and went to sleep at 6:30. Sometimes you just need an intense break!!! I’m glad you got one. It certainly hasn’t hurt your art!!! 🙂

Happy Friday – have a great weekend!

  10. stunningly beautiful – I love this. There is a mom and pop stamp store that has really great “natural looking” wildlife stamps here in Michigan called Greywolf Graphics. The SU wolf set makes me think of them all the time. THanks for sharing – and yes we did miss you – but know how important it is to step back every once in a while.
    Blessings to you today.

Welcome back! You’ve been missed, and hopefully now you are feeling better!
Thanks for the awesome card. To be honest, until yesterday, I would have GIVEN you this set. It was just a little too overwhelming for me. But thanks to your wonderful gift, I have a great new card idea!

I’ve had this set forever, but need to get him out and play with him some more. I seem to have been collecting various wolves for some time! LOL Your card is awesome. Thanks for the great instructions. I never thought to “mess with” the image by darkening and lightening his face. Most I’ve ever done is black emboss him on black, then take bleach after him and then Twinkling H2O’s. I like to make mine with blue eyes!

I’m so glad you are OK and ready to stamp! I love love love this card! I have this set and it is always at my stamping area. It has never been put in my stamp cabinet because it is my favorite set. I have thought about sending you an email to see if you would ever use a wolf (or a giraffe – hint hint) in your tutorials! I am so thrilled to see this one used. I took the day off from work today and dropped my dog off at daycare so I can stamp. I am planning to practice your technique for as long as I need to today. I can’t think of a better card to use in my attempt. Thank you for taking the time to post all of your tutorials. I look forward to each and every one of them.

Way to go on this card, Michelle! Beautiful! I’m curious what Close to my Heart sets you purchased! I am going to a CTMH class on Monday and want to have the same ones you do for future tutorials! Heehee, I really am a Zindorf fan!! Thanks for all your hard work and I am glad you got a “breather”.

I managed to get the “Wolf” set for my friend for not only a good price on ebay but I also got it 4 days before Christmas last year. When she opened the box my husband and I both thought she was going to cry. It was an awesome gift. I can’t wait to show her this tutorial and create a card with her. Thank you so much!!

Um…you can come stay at my house. I’ll be very quiet while you rest…maybe just peak over your shoulder when you’re playing around in my rubber room. 😉

That is stunning! I too searched and searched for this set, and got it off of ebay. I must say though that I did not hold out for a lower price as much as I likely should have. ;). I am sure I outbid you then! (OMG you mean if I hadn’t out bid you that perhaps we would have seen this beauty before then!? Gasp! I am sooo sorry because I am certainly nopt using this set to its whole potential!!!! I am going to try this exact card to get my mojo going! Take Care Michelle, take the rest you need, and have a Happy Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend!

What a great card ! A real WOW card !!! I missed you, and looked for the email each day, but figured you were busy. I’m happy you had time to re-group. You sure came back strong, and I love the card. I have checked splitcoast from time to time for ideas to use this set, and nothing ever really excited me. I made one card years ago that I loved, but don’t have a photo of it, and don’t remember what I did ! Old age setting in!
I’m so happy you came up with this gorgeous card. I love my wolf and want to use him. Unfortunately, I’m not creative enough to come up with something great like this. Thank you for supplying the creative works of art for all of us to copy !!

  27. WOW AS WELL!!! Your work blows me away but this is over the top! I’ve never seen that stamp set before (wolf) and its gorgeous with the card you made. and I really appreciate your tutorials. I have been playing with the brayer now and made a couple that were very passable brayerd background cards. More you play the better you get I suppose. But I would never have known how to do it or even tried if it had not been for your tutorials. Your explanations, pictures and words, are so easy to follow! thanks for all of your work! Mary

  30. Michelle – First of all, I love your wolf. He/she is beautiful! But I’m writing because I missed a few days of your postings and I just found the Cup of Joe with Flower and it knocked my socks off (which your art is prone to do). Who would have thunk it…the coffee cup with a flower in it! The incongruity is gorgeous! and it is a technique I will try. Thanks once again for sharing your beautiful and innovative art with us!
