California Sunset & Blog Candy

dsc06530.JPG

I’m leaving on a Jet Plane. . . . . . .. . .

Folks, I’m flying out today to the West Coast, San Jose to be exact to teach a few Advanced and Beginner workshops.  I will return on Sunday, but probably won’t be posting again until Monday.

I wanted to leave you with a tutorial and some blog candy.  So here it is.  The blog candy is this Sunset card that measures 4″ x 9″.  To enter for a chance to win this card leave a comment on this post.  If you are getting this blog update by e-mail you will need to click this link and leave a comment on this post:  http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2008/10/23/california-sunset-blog-candy/

I will select a winner of this blog candy upon my return on Monday, October 27th using a random number generator.  Good luck to you all!

The stamps I used today are by Innovative Stamp Creations.  Here is a link to their online store:

Now for the tutortial.  🙂

Supplies:

Stamps: Innovative Stamp Creations “Marvels of Nature”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black & Pink Passion
Ink: Stampin’ Up Regal Rose, Summer Sun, Basic Black & Orchid Opulence
Accessories: Brayer, Post it Notes, Ribbon, Brads, Tim Holtz Medallion

dsc06531.JPG

Brayered Summer Sun ink at the bottom a 3″ x 8″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc06517.JPG

Brayered Regal Rose ink at the top of the card stock.

dsc06518.JPG

Brayered a bit of Orchid Opulence ink at the very top of the card stock, not covering the Real Rose ink entirely.

dsc06519.JPG

Masked the bottom 1/3 of the card stock with post it notes.

dsc06520.JPG

Sponged Regal Rose ink at the post it note edge and create a couple small hills.

Note:  This shows what happens when you put pink on top of yellow.  That’s right, you get Orange.  🙂

dsc06521.JPG

Sponged some Orchid Opulence right at the post it note edge.

dsc06522.JPG

Removed the post it note masks.

dsc06523.JPG

Sponged Regal Rose ink from the outside edge toward the middle, using a streaking motion with the sponge.  I did not sponge any Regal Rose ink in the middle of the card stock.

dsc06524.JPG

Stamped three Palm trees using Basic Black ink.

dsc06525.JPG

Sponged heavily Basic Black ink at the very bottom of the card stock.

dsc06526.JPG

Added a hot pink ribbon, brads and a Tim Holtz Medallion that says “Journey” on it.

Here is the finished card measuring 4″ x 9″.

Wow, I don’t usually reach for pink, but this is sooooo pretty! i recently did some collage cards in pinks and loved them as well. Maybe I need to rethink my color choices and think outside my usual comfort zone! i would love to win this candy. Kathy Eddy

If I were to win this breath taking “California Sunset”, I would immediately frame it. When we move to our future house, somewhere in the USA it would be ready to hang… a beautiful reminder of the incredible sunsets in Guam where we use to live and Puerto Rico where we live now. I just love sunsets, thank you for bringing this one to us.

I AM a pink person, so love everything about this card – especially the colour! I have often wondered Michelle – do you try things out first, then make the actual project, or do you mentally plan it and then just dive in? You are able to create the most wonderful landscapes and scenes. Thanks again for sharing your incredible talent with us – hope you a fantastic trip!

Wow. Your work really makes me want to get a brayer. I love how you explore all the SU colors. I have all of them and typically only use the neutrals. I’m a bad stamp pad owner. I do have a question though. Does all your work come out this awesome the first time you try it or do you have to do some practice runs before getting your fabulous results? My work never comes out right the first (20) times and it is sooooo discouraging. Have a safe trip. I look forward to more of your work. ~Rebecca

We just got back from a family trip to south Texas where they have tons of palm trees so this picture is what we’ve been seeing for the past few days. I would love to win this as a prize. Thanks for the chance and another great tutorial.

Wow, being that it is in the 40’s here today, your card sure warmed things up. It is gorgeous. I keep trying your techniques, but I’ll never in a million years do them as well as you. Thank you for the continued inspiration and how to’s.

Such a beautiful card. We lived for three years in Hawaii, and you have truely captured the feel of the tropics with this. I have tried several of your cards that you have done on your tutorials. I want to thank you for the time and effort it must take to do these. I feel like my cards have greatly improved since I found your site! I always look forward to getting home from work and checking to see what you have done. I have also bought a lot of stamps that I never would have looked twice at because I couldn’t figure out what to do with them! You have really made me see stamps differently also! I can’t thank you enough, and my card recipients thank you also! LOL

  23. I have been to California once, San Diego, and loved it! We had such a great time! We did the same thing, leave on a jet plane, my son’s first airplane trip! The palm trees and the ocean are beautiful! I was surprised the ocean water was so cold! It was awesome to watch the sunset, and to see ships and cruise liners on the horizon! I love your tutorials, and have yet to master my brayer! I think the trick is to have plenty of ink, and of course, learn to properly or strategically layer those colors! You always choose the most awesome colors!
    Thanks for the tutorial!

Thanks for all your wonderful tutorials!
