Tranquil Bookmarker – Tutorial #162

dsc07258.JPG

Happy Saturday!   I thought I would start my post out with a little peak at my stamping attire in the morning, lol.  If you have ever envisioned me as a well dress fancy person, well let me tell you, you are dead wrong.  I would live in my flannel JP’s Twenty Four Seven if I could get away with it.  I get cleaned up every workday and head to work, but the very moment I get home, the work clothes come off and the sweat clothes or the JP’s go on.  I’m not above cooking dinner for my husband and I in my JP’s.

Yep, those are snowflake flannels, lol.  I have way to much more on my mind to think about other than clothing.  Like what stamp am I going to use today?  Will I create a tutorial for my wonderful readers?  Folks, I’m just keeping it real for you. 🙂

dsc07226.JPG

Ok, that’s enough about what a slob I am.  Let’s get started on today’s tutorial.

Supplies:

Stamps: Innovative Stamp Creations “Tranquil” :  http://www.innovativestampcreations.com/ischomepage.html
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Chocolate Chip
Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Apricot Appeal, More Mustard, Chocolate Chip, Tangerine Tango, Riding Hood Red & Kiwi Kiss
Accessories: Versmark Pad and Marker, Tim Holtz Charm Fragments, Ribbon,Brad, Flower, Brayer, Clear embossing powder and heat gun, Sponge, Fine tip Black marker, Ticket Corner Punch, Eyelet and Cropodile, Sharpie Gold Paint Marker

dsc07262.JPG

I’m going to start this tutorial by creating the embellishment for the ribbon first and we will set it aside to dry.

Brayered Tangarine Tango ink at the top of a piece of scrap paper.

Stamped the twig stamp in Kiwi Kiss ink.  Stamped the two birds (I’m making two embellishments) in black ink.

Put Crystal Effects on the one side of the Tim Holtz Fragment charm and then put it Crystal Effects side done on top of the bird image.

dsc07247.JPG

dsc07248.JPG

dsc07249.JPG

Let these dry for a while and then I cut the paper away from around the fragment and used a piercing tool to open up the hole in the top of the charm.

dsc07253.JPG

Used direct to paper with Apricot Appeal ink and Chocolate Chip ink to give the back some interest.

dsc07254.JPG

Now for the Bookmark.

Stamped the block image by first loading my stamp with Versamark and then loading it with Riding Hood Red ink before stamping it.  I repeated this again for the second block image.  They were both stamped on a 3″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White Card stock.

dsc07229.JPG

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc07230.JPG

Colored over the block images with a Versamark marker so the white showing in the images would be heat embossed also.  Covered the Versamark image with clear embossing powder and heat with a heat gun to emboss.

dsc07231.JPG

dsc07232.JPG

Stamped bird by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then with Basic Black ink before stamping.

dsc07233.JPG

Heat embossed the image using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc07234.JPG

Stamped Twig by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then Kiwi Kiss ink before stamping it.  I didn’t worry about it getting on my previously embossed images.  When it gets heat embossed it melts away.

dsc07235.JPG

Heat embossed the twig using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc07236.JPG

Brayered Apricot Appeal ink at the top half of the card stock.

dsc07237.JPG

Brayered More Mustard ink at the top of the card stock not covering the Apricot Appeal ink entirely.

dsc07238.JPG

Getting darker yet, I brayered Tangerine Tango ink at the very top of the card stock.

dsc07239.JPG

Covered the top 2/3rds of the card stock with a post it note to mask it.

dsc07240.JPG

Brayered Tangerine Tango ink at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc07241.JPG

Sponged Chocolate chip ink at the post it note edge and at the bottom right hand corner to create a shadow for the vase.

dsc07243.JPG

Removed the mask.

dsc07244.JPG

Used a ticket corner punch at the top two corners of the main image panel.  Used a Gold Paint maker and dragged in down each edge of the main image panel.

dsc07250.JPG

Used a very fine tip black marker and outlined the top right side of the branch and the bottom and right side of the vase.

dsc07251.JPG

Adhered the main image panel to a Chocolate Chip panel and used the ticket corner punch on the Chocolate Chip panel’s top corners.

Used a Cropodile to add a gold eyelet at the top of the bookmark.

dsc07255.JPG

Added my ribbon through the eyelet, tied a knot in the ribbon and then added my embellishment to the ribbon end with a gold brad.  I don’t like to see any Brad butts showing (except for maybe Brad Pitt butts) so I flipped the embellishment over and covered the brad but with a flower.

dsc07256.JPG

Here is the finished bookmark measuring 3 1/4″ x 5.5″.

dsc07258.JPG

Hope this tutorial inspires you to make some bookmakers you will be proud to use and give as gifts.

May your day be filled with enchanting stores.

Until my next post. .. . . . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

What a fabulous image! Simple & elegant, it really comes alive with your trademark brayering! The tutorial is done so well. And I have to say I am so glad I’m not the only one with the preference for pj’s! Lol The description of your routine sounds exactly like me.

Love the beautiful imagery on the bookmar. And I am with you on the JP’s – is there anything more comforting than flannel? It’s like wearing a hug from Mom.

I love bookmarks. I even make my bookmarks match the cover of the book I’m reading or the topic. I give them to my friends and family too. I make lots of bookmarks so this gives me another idea for more. This bookmark is fabulous! And what’s this about being a slob? No way! Flannel pj’s are high fashion in the comfy department of life!!!!! I love what Sheena said about them being like wearing a hug from Mom. Excellent quote! 😀
    Have a comfy day Michelle.

love it – and I have everything – I know what I am making today!
    Thanks for all the joy
And by the way – you are not alone in your attire and attitude – give me a pair of sweats any day! When I first got married my husband used to call me and say he was going to pick me up and we would go out to dinner – I used to say make it take out I am in my sweats already …..
    enjoy!

I had to do a double take on your stamping clothes to make sure it wasn’t a photo of me. LOL! I could live in jammies and some days I do. I am all for the comfort and besides when you are not tied up in making clothing decisions you can make artistic ones. Love this bookmark and will be making several for little “tuck-in” gifts. You know, something you “tuck-in” a card you give a friend. I have a similar bird set and will use a Chinese word stamp with it on mine. Thanks again for sharing your great work with us.

I LOVE BRAD PITT BUTTS!!!! Oh, I mean, I love your book mark! And your flannel! Here in Texas, flannel is generally too hot for indoors but sweats work great. I’d like to see more of the Crystal Effects stuff you used as I’ve not seen that before. I’ve learned so much from your Blog and can only say thank you again. If there is ever anything I can do to help you PLEASE let me know. P.S. Every time I’m in my studio I see the prize I won on your Blog some time back and I think of you and your awesome work.

I’m still in my PJ’s as well (and it’s 12:45 on the east coast), took a break from cleaning house… and to my surprise another lovely tutorial from you…Beautiful book mark!!!! would hate to hide it in a book I was reading and I would probably take weeks to finish reading a book because I’d be in awe of the book mark and instead of reading I’d be looking at the bookmark ..lol….

    Thanks for all your inspiration

Michelle, I am floored at your creativity, this is another awesome piece. love the colors and images you choose, as always :). Love your out fit, I think all of us should take pictures of how we look when we are stamping and make an album, or maybe take videos and send it to “America’s most funny videos” 🙂 :).

Love this beautiful bookmark and its charm!! I’ve tried staying in jammies a couple of times and always had someone we know knocking on the door or ringing the doorbell before 10:00a.m. Now, I just put jeans and a sweatshirt on instead – it’s safer, lol. TFS

I haven’t left a comment in quite a while. I have been so far behind blog reading that I was just speeding along. I am all caught up so here I am. I love the book mark. It is really beautiful and I like the idea of the fragment at the top. Also, I am a PJ girl. I love them. In fact I get a tad bit cranky when my niece (she lives with me) has her boyfriend or other male friends over and I have to wait until they leave. Don’t the parents of these teenagers realize there kids should be home well before 10 p.m. Pajama time ‘sa waistin’.

I thought every great “red blooded” female lived in flannel loungies… I would wear them shopping if I could!!! I can just picture Brad Pitts with some tight loungies on without a shirt….ooooh…is it hot in here or is it just me (LOL)?!

Oh yea, your book marker. It is just breath taking. I bought a book on nature for my mothers birthday (Jan 23), this will be a/the perfect addition. Will wrap the book and add the bookmaker with a ribbon on the outside attached to the bow. She too will love it.

Thanks for sharing and your timing is/was just perfect.

Hearing about your stamping in your PJs sounded so much like me!! I also come home every day from work and immediately get into them if I don’t have to go back out – which is just about every day! My favorite thing to do is to shut out the world and stamp in PJs all day! (It’s truly a luxury.)

I’m seriously considering attending one of your upcoming workshops. Will either bring another demo with me or convince my husband there is something in the trip for him besides an emptier bank account. 🙂

    Have a great week!

So every morning when I check out what you have posted, I too, have on the flannel jammie pants! Love your blog….glad you started it.
