Happy Birthday to me, happy birthday to me.. . . . la, la, la, la.    LOL.

If you haven’t guessed, today is my birthday.  I’m putting off the celebration though until a better time.  My mother is very sick and in the hospital so I will be spending my birthday with her.  Anyway, what better person to spend your birthday with than the very one that brought you into the world, your Mother, right?

Before I run off to the hospital this morning, I have a fun tutorial for you.  This tutorial shows you how to turn grasses into cattails with punches.

Let’s get started. .. .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up! Inspired by Nature
Paper: Stampin’ Up! Whisper White, Cajun Craze, Basic Black and More Mustard
Ink: Stampin’ Up! Basic Black, Early Espresso, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Cajun Craze
Accessories: Stampin’ Up! Horizontal Slot punch, 2.5″ circle punch, Photo Corner punch, Brayer, Sponge, Basic Black marker, White Gel Pen, piercing Tools and Gold Brads

Brayered Daffodil Delight ink at the top of a 3.75″ x 5.25″ piece of Whisper White card stock.

dsc05039.JPG

Added a 2.5″ circle punched from the sticky part of a post it note and used it as a mask for my sun.  Brayered Pumpkin Pie ink at the bottom of the card stock up to the top.

dsc05040.JPG

Brayered Cajun Craze ink at the bottom of the card stock, not covering the Pumpkin Pie ink entirely.

dsc05041.JPG

Removed the sun mask and stamped the Stampin’ Up! Inspired By Nature Grasses using Early Espresso ink.

dsc05042.JPG

Using the Stampin’ Up! Horizontal Slot Punch, punched some pieces out of Early Espresso card stock.  Note:  if you don’t have a Horizontal Slot Punch, use a very small circle punch and cut two sides of each punch to create the same shape.  🙂

dsc05043.JPG

Colored one half of the punches with a Basic Black marker to create a shadow side.

dsc05044.JPG

Glued some of the punches on the grasses, dark side away from the sun.

dsc05045.JPG

Sponged Basic Black ink at the bottom of the card stock.

dsc05046.JPG

Added highlights to the grasses and catails.

dsc05047.JPG

Added Basic Black, More Mustard and Cajun Craze card stock panels.  Also added Cajun Craze and Basic Black Photo Corner Punches.

dsc05049.JPG

Added 3 gold brads to each of the Cajun Craze Photo Corners.

dsc05050.JPG

Using Piercing Tools, pierced around the Cajun Craze Panel.

Here is the finished card measuring 5″ x 6.5″

May your day be overflowing with Joy and Laughter.

Until my next post. . . .  . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

Happy Birthday, Michelle, and warm wishes for your mother’s improved health. I love your card, as usual. What I did to create cattails is to cut out a small piece of left over rubber in a cattail shape. It is quite small to work with but seems to fill the bill.

Oh Michelle your tutorial are absolutely wonderful, I am challenging myself to try some of the things that I have never done. I love this card as the colours are so me, however I don’t seem to be able to get my brayer to move smoothly, I have lines it doesn’t seem to blend very well. Is there a trick to doing this sort of thing?
