Wonderful Fall Day – Tutorial #367

We had such spectacular Fall days over the weekend here in Ohio it just put me in the mood to put it on paper.   So today’s tutorial is what I came up with.

Although, I love to travel to warm places that don’t see much of the seasonal changes that we get here, I could never live with out the change of seasons.  I am after all a Spring and Fall person and grew up here in Ohio were we see it all.  🙂  Okay, so I love Summer and Winter too, lol.  But Spring and especially Fall are my favorite times of the year.   I tend to wilt in the very hot temps of Summer and cannot get warm sometimes in the Winter.     What’s it like in your part of the world?  What is your favorite time of year?

Speaking of warm places, I am traveling to Savannah, Georgia tomorrow morning and then on to Atlanta, Georgia on Friday evening.  So today I am packing the van full of workshop supplies and doing last minute errands before heading South.     I can’t wait to get there where I will be meeting new brayer students, and some students that will be returning to take the advanced workshop.  Some times these workshops are like coming home again, especially when I get to see some of the students for a second time.  Also my Savannah Hostess, Lilann Taylor is very dear to me.  We became instant friends my first trip to Savannah.   Ready or not Georgia,  HERE I COME!

Now let’s get started on today’s tutorial. . .  . . .

Supplies:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up Season of Friendship
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Cajun Craze and Basic Black
Ink: Stampin’ Up More Mustard, Cajun Craze, Soft Suede, Old Olive, Baja Breeze, Tempting Turquoise, Not Quite Navy and Basic Black
Accessories: Stampin’ Up Sponges, Brayer, Clear embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Gold Brads and Tempting Turquoise Ribbon

On a 3.5″ x 5″ piece of Whisper White card stock, stamped the leaves from the Stampin’ Up set, Season of Friendship by first loading the stamp with Versamark, then More Mustard ink then stamped it.  Repeated loading the stamp with Versamark and then More Mustard ink for each stamping.

Heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped more leaves by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then with Cajun Craze ink before stamping them.  Heat embossed the Cajun Craze images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Stamped more leaves by first loading the stamp with Versamark and then with Soft Suede ink before stamping them.  Heat embossed the Soft Suede images using clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

Brayered Tempting Turquoise ink at an angle on the top right corner of the card stock.

Brayered Not Quite Navy ink at the top right corner of the card stock at an angle.

Sponged Old Olive ink at the bottom of the card stock.

Sponged Soft Suede ink at the very bottom of the card stock.

Stamped the tree from the Stampin’ Up set, Season of Friendship using Baja Breeze ink.

Stamped another tree using Tempting Turquoise ink.

Stamped another tree using Basic Black ink.

Lightly buffed the ink off of my embossed images using a paper towel.

Added Basic Black and Cajun Craze card stock panels, Gold Brads and Tempting Turquoise ribbon.

Here is the finished card measuring 5.5″ square.

I hope this tutorial has inspired you to put what you are seeing in nature in your area on paper.  Really, inspiration is all around us.

Yesterday, since it was so nice out.  I hooked the garden hose up and gave my faithful companions Lucas and Abby a bath.   These beast are both over 100 lbs. so I actually get a bath the same time they do.  Some how they come out smelling pretty good, but I end up smelling like wet dog, lol.

I got so tickled at Lucas, here he is all clean and fluffy and I am trying to take his picture.  When you point a camera at him, he shakes his head no and closes his eyes.  You really have to be pretty patient to get one of his face.  Check it out.

Oh, we can’t forget Abby.  All you have to do is ask her if she wants a treat and she perks right up for the camera.   If you are curious, Lucas is a German Short Haired Point/Great Dane Mix and Abby is Black Lab.   Although she is turning a bit gray now, but aren’t we all.  🙂

Hey, have a super week!

Until my next post. . . .  . . .

Huge Hugs,

Michelle

Ooh – love the colors, the piles of leaves, the bare trees, the intensely blue sky… I’m from northern Iowa, so I’m like you – Spring and Fall are the best – and as much as I love Spring, as a reward for living through an Iowa Winter – I love Fall for all these colors – can’t wait to brayer-up!
Drive carefully on your way south!

How cool is this card….. very! I have this stamp set and you’ve given me another way to use it. Love your idea of using the versamark first on a stamp, a real color on it, and then the embossing powder. I think I remember you doing a tutorial on this, will have to go back through your blog to look for it. Oh, also love the pictures of your dogs, they are so cute. tks for sharing!

Beautiful card!! I have to take the time to try some of your tutorials. Life has been so busy since I found your blog, but I’m finally getting time to make cards so maybe this week I’ll finally get that brayer out! And I’ve never tried the clear embossing resist technique either… just keep reading about how it’s done on several blogs. This is going to be my “fall” of new techniques.

I don’t know which I enjoyed more, Lucas and Abby or the beautiful fall card!!! All are beautiful/handsome. My favorite season is Autumn but there are things I love about all the seasons and am always thankful to be around to enjoy them! Safe trip Michelle and hurry back home.

Mickey your card is so pretty.
Our summers here can be quite warm or sometimes too hot for me too, and winters can be far to cold and long too.(around 6 weeks of constant snow last winter was the worst we’ve had for a long while)
Coming from Scotland though, I’m more used to cooler days, cold winds and plenty of rain, not so good for doggy walking. I have 2 labradors too, love ’em to bits, and they love their walks.
Lucas and Abby are gorgeous, they’ll certainly keep you going too, especially bath time, lol.
Sometimes, weather-wise, we experience more than one season in one day, lol.
I love Spring with the reminder of nature coming back to life, the first glimpse of green, new leaf and flower buds on the trees and shrubs and bulbs pushing up green foliage growing through the bare winter ground, I love Fall too or as we call it here in UK “Autumn” when the landscape seems to change on a daily basis, golds, greens, russets, reds fiery oranges and coppers, all around so beautiful, and especially when the sun rises or sets with the echoed colours in the sky too. Gorgeous scenes when the fading light silhouettes the trees and landscape against a pretty or dramatic sky.
Both can have in common fresh frosty or cold mornings with the sunshine, warming up to a nice temperature during the afternoon. Perfect!

Ahhh Autumn, hands down my favorite season here in eastern IA. Pretty much like OH. I have had my camera out taking photos of tha fall colors. We had a GLORIOUS weekend here.
I got a laugh out of Lucas not wanting to have his photo taken. Husbands dog just won’t sit still or stay far enough away from camera for a good shot. Silly dogs.
    Have a wonderful week. Hugs…

What a great card! Thanks for sharing the photos of your pooches. We have a black lab who loves to have her picture taken. Fall is by far my favorite time of year, and winter too, here in Northern California. Happy travels, Mickey!

I’m with you on the seasons – I love Spring & Autumn. Spring because I just love the flowers that grow at that time of year – Camellias, Daffodils, Fruit Blossom. It’s so wonderful to see everything coming to life & the days getting longer. However when Nature shuts down for the winter it does so so magnificently – I love the colours of Autumn.
Your dogs are so cute – they look like real characters.

I am with you – spring and autumn so I love your card. You make great cards look so simple!
Your description of bathing the dogs made me laugh – we had a goldie and I used to take her in the shower in the end. She had bad joints so cold hose water wasn’t an option, and she was too heavy for me to lift into the bath so the walk in shower with me in there too was the only answer!

  12. Gorgeous Michelle! I too love Fall..just wish it lasted a wee bit longer. Have a safe and fun trip to Ga. The only way I could ever photo my dog was to use my cell phone…he didn’t realize it was a camera too…tricky tricky.

I love the color combinations you used for this card and I agree, fall is one of the best seasons. I’m with you about the fall colors. In fact you have me looking at everything around – sunsets, trees, flowers and thinking about how I could capture that onto a card! Love the thinking process and experimenting. Keeps my one brain cell working!! Thanks so much for putting these tutorials out there for us to try. I’m going to northern Iowa Thursday and spend a couple days with my sister – Gini. Hopefully we’ll try some of these tutorials together and have a blast ! Thanks again.
