Forest Wolf

dsc06324.JPG

Hello all!  A few of you have commented and e-mailed me wondering why I haven’t posted in a few days.  Tell you the truth, sometimes life gets a little to overwhelming for me and I have to just step back, take a breath and regroup.  I really appreciate your concern though.

Todays tutorial is using a retired 2001 Stampin’ Up set “Wolf” and 2006 set “Best Blossoms”.  I love to pick up retired sets on Ebay.  Been wanting this Wolf set for so long, but there is only so much I will pay for stamps.  So I bid my max amount and hope that I’ll win, only on occasion I do.  Especially for some of the highly soot after sets like “Wolf”.  It has taken me 2 years of bidding to get it, but I got it for a fair price.  🙂

Let’s get started on the tutorial.

Supplies, Oops missed the supply photo this morning:

Stamps: Stampin’ Up “Wolf” & “Best Blossoms”
Paper: Stampin’ Up Whisper White, Basic Black, Always Artichoke
Ink: Stampin’ Up Basic Black, Always Artichoke, Really Rust and Old Olive
Accessories: Versamark pad, Prismacolor Pencils, Faber-Castell Artist Pen, Sponge

 On with the tutorial.

Loaded my stamp with Versamark, Old Olive and then tapped the stamps leaf tips on a Really Rust ink pad to color the tips before stamping it on a piece of 4.5″ square Whisper White card stock.  Stamped it 6 times.

dsc06310.JPG

Heat embossed the images using fine detail clear embossing powder and a heat gun.

dsc06311.JPG

Stamped Wolf face with Basic Black ink.

dsc06312.JPG

Colored the face with a Prismacolor Cool Grey 50% pencil.

dsc06313.JPG

Added some Prismacolor Black pencil to the nose, between the eyes and darker parts of the ears.

dsc06314.JPG

Colored the eyes with a Prismacolor Goldenrod pencil.

dsc06315.JPG

Colored the mussel and inner ears with a Prismacolor Beige pencil.

dsc06316.JPG

Sponged Almost Artichoke ink all around the wolf.

dsc06317.JPG

Stamped leaves with Always Artichoke ink.

dsc06318.JPG

Wiped the ink off of my embossed leaves with a soft rag.

dsc06319.JPG

Sponged Basic Black ink at the bottom of the card stock and a bit around the edges of the card stock.

dsc06320.JPG

Stamped some more leaves at the bottom of the card stock with Basic Black ink and then wiped off my embossed images with a soft rag.

dsc06321.JPG

Darkened around the eyes, nose and a bit around the darkest parts of the ears with a Faber-Castell fine point black marker to make them stand out more.

dsc06322.JPG

Assembled my card front and here it is finished measuring 5.5″ square.

I hope your day is filled with relaxing and fun filled moments.

Until my next post.. . . . . . . . .

Hugs,

Michelle

    Michelle,
I’m a new subscriber to your postings and am really enjoying them. This is beautiful!
I’m intrigued by the use of a Versamark pad and the dye inks to make the images embossable. I have never tried this (dumb me!) and wondered if the Versamark doesn’t affect (effect? I’ve never been able to keep those straight!) the dye ink pads. Does this work with markers as well? Do you need to emboss immediately after stamping? I’m going to try this.

Wonderful card and it made me do the happy dance…I have these sets! Can’t wait till Monday when I have the time to play in my “rubber room”. Wish it was sooner, but I have the garden to tend to and a husband that is willing to lend his muscle to the job. Love this card and love this set…so good for guy cards. Have a great weekend.

Hi Michelle. As I have said before, you are one of the hardest working bloggers out there. To graciously photograph all of your steps and provide full blown tutorials every time you post, if you need a day or two off for good tutorials, have at it. We do worry about you though because you do it so infrequently. Now for todays card, I love this to the max. I never knew SU had a wolf stamp, and now all of your Zindorfians will be bidding them up like crazy! I finally had to settle for a smaller version of the three bare trees cause I could never get that without remortgaging my house (thank goodness I didn’t do that, I’d probably be homeless today!) Anyway, I love wolves because I have a Keeshond for a four-legged daughter and she looks like a wolf. So I really love what you did with this. Off to ebay I go — I hope I stay focused on wolf stamps, and don’t venture off into Coach purses, or some of the other goodies I have been known to frequent.

  12. Awesome, fantastic, cool, wonderful, beautiful! I just bought a wolf stamp last week from Rubber Stampede. It’s a wolf on all fours. I also went to the Wild Canid Center today (the Wolf Sanctuary) just outside of St. Louis–to see some real wolves. I bought a stuffed toy wolf for my son who loves nature wildlife animals. He’s been wanting a toy stuffed wolf for awhile and no one carries them–except nature stores or wildlife centers. Anyway, I love how you did this! It’s just like a real wolf in the woods. I love that technique of tapping the red on the edges of the leaves! I’ll need to practice that! I guess its kind of like the rock and roll method…? Thanks for demo-ing this, I love how it came out! Thanks for doing what you do on this website! I am learning a lot from you–like how to color those greys like you did on this wolf! I appreciate your tutorials so much!

Running behind with this comment, sorry! I must say have never seen a “wolf” stamp done sooo well! This one really speaks to me! All of your creations are wonderful, but every now and then you really go over the top! You sure did with this one! It’s beyond words. Glad to hear you took a break! You’ve come up with more ideas this year so far than I have in 5 years. Everyone’s brain needs a break now and then! Just wish mine wasn’t always on one! LOL Thanks so much for this fab tutorial!

Finally able to get on your site. I’ve been wanting to get your tutorial on this card for a long time. I’ve had Wolf because my husband is a dog lover and we had a McKenzie River black wolf in our kennel for a number of years. She was a delightful animal and we will aways miss her. She had beautiful amber eyes and used to peer at strangers from behind a tree. I was discouraged with the stamp set as my results just weren’t what I wanted. I was ready to list on e-bay……..now I’m trying again with your gorgeous design and method. TFS.
